Got my new iPhone 4.0.......everything you need to know

New iPhone is awesome......to say the least. Activation and restore went without a hitch and took less than 15 minutes to perform. The first sync took approximately 40 minutes to get my music (25gb) and photos (2gb) back on the iPhone. Only issue to so far has been my "folders" on the 3GS weren't created during the restore process. It did have to synce all of the apps again so I'm going to try another restore once all of the music and photos are on the phone.
Process is straight forward:
1. Backup your old iPhone - mine was a 32gb 3GS running iOS4.0
2. Plug in the new iPhone 4.0 - it will ask to port the number to the new phone and activate
3. Unplug the iPhone and sync again only this time use the restore feature to get all of your settings
4. Perform another sync to get your apps, music, and photos
Your done!!!

My only issue so far has been with my initial sync with iTunes this morning. The sync started normally and proceeded to perform a backup.....halfway through the backup, the iPhone reset itself and cycled through to the home screen. No data/information was lost - the iPhone is fine. But, it never performed the complete sync with iTunes.
I haven't tried a 2nd sync yet and will look to see if others have experienced this.

Does the original library file still exist on the computer?  Hopefully when creating the new library it was done in a seperate folder as I do not believe iTunes allows for two library files in the same location.

  • Everything you need to know about Foxtel Go

Foxtel on T-Box customers can self register Foxtel Go on 2 devices per Foxtel on T-Box subscription. You are able to view content on 1 of the 2 registered devices. The T-Box device will automatically be registered on your behalf and cannot be deregistered. You can change the device they have registered once per calendar month.
To change a registered device you must log into the Foxtel Go app. As a Foxtel from Telstra customer please use your Foxtel My account details. As a Foxtel on T-Box customer please log in with your primary (i.e. the first username created and linked to your account) BigPond username and password.
Once in the app go to the settings icon and choose 'manage my devices'. Within this section of the app you will be able to select de-register for the device you wish to change. To register, download the Foxtel Go app and log in. You will be prompted to register the device.
Remember you can only change one device once per calendar month. If you are still able to make a change, you will be advised of the number of device registrations left this month.
If you recently registered your T-Box, you should have access to Foxtel Go within 1 hour. If you are experiencing errors please try closing the Foxtel Go App and logging in again. If you are still unable to access any content please contact us via Telstra 24x7 or Telstra Technical Support on 13 22 00
If you swap your Foxtel on T-Box service to a new device, your Foxtel Go service is not affected as it is associated to your BigPond username and password, and not the T-Box device.
When trying to make a second device change within a month the de-register' button will be greyed out, preventing the change.
Current channel rights only allow Foxtel Go to be registered on 3 devices per Foxtel Account. For Foxtel on T-Box customers, the T-Box counts as your 3rd device.
The parental control function is specific to Foxtel Go and managed in the app via the settings icon. To access parental control:
Go to the settings' icon in the app (top right)
    Access parental controls'
Choose which classifications you'd like to restrict
All R-rated content is automatically blocked, but you can personalise your restrictions for other ratings. To do this go to Settings in the Foxtel Go app, turn on Parental Controls and restrict the classifications you would like to block. If this is the first time you do this you'll be prompted to set a 4 digit PIN specifically for Foxtel Go. You can use this PIN to change your parental controls in the future. This PIN is only applicable to the Foxtel Go app. For Foxtel from Telstra customers, the PIN is not the same as you use on your IQ or Set Top Box, and you will be required to setup a new PIN to restrict content on Foxtel Go. For Foxtel on T-Box customers, the PIN is not the same as you use on your T-Box, and you will be required to setup a new PIN to restrict content on Foxtel Go.
Foxtel Go content is unmetered with Telstra BigPond Home Broadband services. With other internet service providers this will be offset against your data plan.
If you use Foxtel Go on your device with any 3G/4G telecommunications service provider, including Telstra, usage isn't unmetered and you will incur data charges when using Foxtel Go. The below list provides an indicationof the data you will use per device on the various app settings, based on watching an hour of TV. To view your settings go to the 'settings' icon in the Foxtel Go App, turn on 'video settings' and choose your preferred quality:
3G Phone/Tablet Best: 320 MB per hour / Low: 170 MB per hour
Wi-Fi Phone Best: 420 MB per hour / Low: 320 MB per hour
Wi-Fi Tablet Best: 720 MB per hour / Low: 320 MB per hour
Wi-Fi PC/Mac Best: 1310 MB per hour / Low: 470 MB per hour
The size of each episode or Movie on Catch up TV can be found on the Synopsis tab.
You can use Foxtel Go at a Wi-Fi location or a personal hotspot when you are in Australia provided you have an internet connection. Some locations offer Wi-Fi hotspots where you can log onto the internet for free. e.g. McDonalds, Starbucks, etc. Any data charges incurred are charged to the business and not to you. When connected to Wi-Fi, you'll see a Wi-Fi symbol on your device.
Foxtel from Telstra customers with a Foxtel iQ or iQHD set top box can Remote Record and send a channel change to their set top box. Unfortunately this functionality is not available to Foxtel on T-Box customers.
You can pause and rewind the last 30 minutes of Live TV, even if you've just changed to that channel. Due to device restrictions users of Samsung Android devices are unable to use this feature.
Foxtel Go is a streaming video service. Streaming means that images and sound are delivered live to your device to view when you press Play, rather than being downloaded to your device to view at a later time.
Games you'd normally see on Foxtel from Telstra or Foxtel on T-Box on FOX SPORTS 3 are broadcast on Foxtel Go on the Footy Play Plus channel
There are no Catch Up of AFL games or magazine shows on Foxtel Go due to content restrictions.
The key symbol indicates that a channel isn't part of your package. You need to upgrade your Foxtel from Telstra or Foxtel on T-Box package to watch it. Your package can not be updated through the Foxtel Go app. For Foxtel on T-Box customers you can update your packages in the T-Box App, at www.telstra.com/tboxsetup, via 13 2200 or in store. For Foxtel from Telstra customers you can update your packages through the store or via 13 1999. The lock symbol indicates that, as part of your parental control setting, you've locked this classification of content, and can't watch it. If you want to change the settings then the primary (i.e. the first username created and linked to your account) account holder can change these by:
Go to the settings' icon in the app (top right)
    Access parental controls'
Choose which classifications you'd like to restrict
No other username or password can change the parental control settings.
We may be required to block out specific programming from time to time, e.g. if a channel doesn't have the legal right to broadcast the programme over the internet. However, all live channels are the same as channels you watch through Foxtel from Telstra or Foxtel on T-Box.
The vast majority of the Foxtel on T-Box content is available via Foxtel Go. There are some minor exceptions. MTV Music and MTV Dance channels are not available. FOOTY PLAY and FOOTY PLAY+ (overflow) channels are not available on PC and Mac only.
Access to Foxtel Go is included in your Foxtel on T-Box and Foxtel from Telstra subscription. However, you will incur data charges when accessing the service on a 3G/4G network.

If you purchased a computer from another person, you need to wipe it clean.  To do this, click on the link - Erasing disks securely
Depending on your model Macbook Pro...
Start up from your install disc, go to Disk Utility and select the disk and click erase - to securely erase data click Security Options and Erase Free Space which will entirely wipe your disk, overwriting it with zeros so that no data is recoverable.

How do you transfer phone numbers from a 3gs to a 4s?

PLug your 3gs into iTunes, in the left panel right click on your iPhone and create a backup. After the back up is complete plug your 4s into iTunes, right click on it in the left panel and select restore from backup, select the backup file from your 3gs and that should load everything from your 3gs to your new iphone

I got the iphone 6+ and in two months it shows it is full.  In itunes it shows that i have 6.4 gigs of pictures, but I only have 105 pic, and not in large format.  This happened to my old 4 as well.  What can I do to get that space back.

Here I am to save the day mets2015. May I ask did you change the device id on your mobile number on your account? This can be done online at My Verizon. Also, have you powered off your previous device? If you have done both of these steps and still having issues, another option is to activate the device using iTunes on a computer. Once you have done so, please advise of the status so we can assist if more help is needed.

  • (solved) T61 swap cpu? (everything you need to know about swapping a T61 or T61p CPU)

Edit: I've summerized everything I've learned in a week long search and added it to this topic, so scroll down and read. You'll save yourself many hours of reading and research.
I asked this as part of a prior topic but never got a definite answer, so I'll ask this specific question.
Can I swap a cpu from one t61 to another?
    Donor system: T61 15.4widescreen with T9300 cpu (2.5ghz, 6mb cache)
    New System: T61 15.4 widescreen with T8100 cpu (2.1ghz, 3mb cache)
I'd like to know for sure before I begin. Best answer I got so far is "I think so".
ps. I also have a 14" (non-widescreen) t61 with a T7300 cpu (2.0ghz 4mb cache). I'm thinking the larger cache makes this superior to the T8100 even though it's slightly slower, do you agree? and if not, should I put the leftover T8100 in it? will it fit? more trouble then it's worth? (secondary question, but non-urgent)

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm going to add some additional info to this post to help anyone who reads it.
The T61 / T61p was manufactured with one of two different types of CPUs
    Merom (older)
    Penryn (newer)
If your system board came with a Merom and you install a Penryn, you'll get a false "thermal error" on boot. There is a 3rd party bios to block that error from posting, but it's unauthorized by Lenovo and should be considered experimental.
If your system board came with a Penryn, you can install either of the two CPUs.
If your not sure of which CPU you have, load your bios and it will show you it's intel number. Mine is T9300 (which is a 2.5GB Penryn CPU with 6MB of cache). Go to Intel's website and search that number and towards the top of the page it will say something like "formerly Penryn" (I believe "formerly" is used because they are out of production).
    Example: http://ark.intel.com/products/33917/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T9300-(6M-Cache-2_50-GHz-800-MHz-FSB)
Since Penryn is newer, your Merom boards won't be able to run the faster CPUs, so you can either try to find the fastest Merom CPU, or if you want to be daring you can reflash your bios with an unoffical firmware and run the Penryn. Although this has been done successfully with thinkpad enthousiats world-wide, it still won't give you full Penryn support.
The fastest Merom processor I know of is that a T61 will run is the T7800 It runs at 2.6ghz and has 4MB cache (note that this is slightly faster ten my 2.5gz Penryn, but my 6MB of cache more then makes up for the slight difference in speed.
The fastest Penryn processor I know of is that the T61 will run is the T9500 It runs at 2.6ghz and has 6MB cache (some day I'll get one of these when the price in the used parts market drops low enough.
There are faster processors, but I believe the T61 will not support one with a front size buss rate above 800mhz. *note, if anyone knows if this is possible please contact me and I'll edit this information.
This should fully explain all the technical details I've discovered during my investigation, but to make this topic more complete, I'll hare a photographic guide showing how to remove and replace your CPU and cooling fan, and also addresses replacing your thermal paste (proper use of thermal paste is a MUST, to much and you could end up with a T61 paperweight, to little and you got the same problem. Basically when the heatsink is tightened down onto your CPU and GPU, it should spread to cover all the chip, with as little as possible overspread. I recommend Artic Silver #5, which is made of 99.9% silver filings. They also make a less expensive version that uses alumimum instead of silver, but given that T61 is known for thermal problems, you don't want to get cheap paste to save yourself all of $5.
Buying a new fan should be considered too. You can buy the fan alone for $12 includinng shipping from many ebay sellers. The heatsink and fan can also be purchased as a unit, but your heat sink should last the life of the Laptop. There is also a conductive "pad" that transfers heat from your systemboard chipset. This can be reused, just make sure it is intact and don't allow it to get any dust or finger prints on it. I'd also recommend a can of compressed air to blow out the inside of the laptop. Do this before you remove your cpu, you don't want to be blowing crap into the socket.
Also be very careful not to bend any pins on the CPU, and inspect the new CPU carefully, a slightly bent pin could miss being detected and if you insert the cpu carelessly, you'll crush it.
    Online guide to replace CPU
PDF guide (better guide in my opinion)
If anyone has a suggestion for improving this guide, send me a P.M.

When I got my new iPhone and was trying to switch everything over I accidentally set up a new icloud account with one email and had one on my old iphone with another account. Does anyone know how I can merge the two accounts?

You cannot merge Apple IDs but you can go to Settings > iCloud and 'Delete Account'.  When prompted to turn off documents and data, choose the only option which is Delete from my iPhone, but on the other prompt for Contacts, Calendars, etc you can choose 'Keep on my iPhone'  Then once the Account is Deleted form the iPhone, log back in with the correct Apple ID and choose Merge when prompted.  This will merge your data from this iPhone with that iCloud account effectively putting your devices on the same account.

    Hello there, Brandifoote24.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up an explanation of what you're error signifies:
    iCloud: Understanding Backup alert messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4576
"This iPhone has not been backed up recently because it has not finished being restored. Would you like to finish downloading any remaining purchases and media before backing up, or delete them along with any app data?"
This message is displayed if your iOS device has been trying to complete a restore for more than three days. This can occur if your restore has been interrupted due to network connectivity issues or some other problem occurs.
Being that this is the case, you would want to go back to the article it seems you were referred to us from and try to restore from your icloud backup again:
iCloud: Troubleshooting restoring an iCloud backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4036
How do I restore an iCloud backup if my device is already set up for use?
You'll need to erase all data and settings from your device, so first confirm that you have an iCloud backup to restore:
Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage, then tap the name of your device to view a list of iCloud backups.
Check the date of the backup you want to restore, because you'll be restoring only what iCloud backed up on that date.
After confirming that an iCloud backup is available, follow these steps:
Connect your device to a power source and make sure that it is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
Follow the instructions for restoring your iOS device from an iCloud backup, which include making sure that your device is using the latest version of iOS.
If the issue persists, then I would troubleshoot Wi-Fi using the following article:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

Firefox also makes regular backups of your bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups in your personal settings folder. You can restore the backup to your new Firefox, but unlike importing the HTML-format file, it is a complete drop-in replacement, so if you have saved new bookmarks you do not want to lose, the export/import method may work better for you.
By default, Windows hides your personal settings folder so the easiest way to access it is from inside Firefox. You can use either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a window showing your Firefox settings files.
You might want to back up this whole folder if you have other data you want to preserve from your XP computer.
Either way, you should find the bookmarkbackups folder here and when you click into it, find maybe 10 files with dates in their names.
The procedure to restore the file once you have it on removable media or some other convenient place is described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]].
Regarding the other files and what you might find of use: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]].

I got a new iphone- went to sync with itunes just to get music and it restored my phone to my old phone's settings. lost everything including ALL of my pictures. Is there any way to unsync my phone so I can get everything back?!!! please say yes!!!!

In short. No, you cannot unsync.  If you had a back up from your old iPhone you cand restore from a back up.
In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Devices > and select the latest back up.
Before you synced your phone did you have it set up with the PhotoStream or iCloud? The pictures would be saved there.  Or if you had them sync to a file on your computer.
