Got new computer, can't add my library

How do I get my itunes library on my new computer? I tried to sync my ipod but it's asking me to erase the content. Is there any way around this?

That's one way. You can also set up windows networking and file sharing, and transfer the files over your home network, or an ethernet crossover cable.
Just like you would copy ANY file over to your new PC, whether it's digital photos, browser bookmarks, word processing documents, etc. Being music files and itunes doesn't change much about that part.
The one file that is special to itunes is the database file that holds ratings, playlists, playcounts, etc, that your ipod was syncing to.

Here is an iLounge article on itunes database vs itunes content

Or you can just start over with a fresh new itunes library.

  • New Computer can't get my library transferred

My old computer was struggling mightily so I had to upgrade. In doing so I went from XP to the dreaded Vista and nothing but Problems. My old computer can't make a disc to copy my library and I've tried to use a usb jumpdrive but when it brings the songs into Itunes they are there in name only and no music. I tried to use the pages Apple has but it's not working. Anyone able to help me out?

Gosh, Julie, I don't know where to begin, but I will try - see if I can get you started in some direction.
First, Click on Start/All programs. Do you see iTunes/ iTunes listed. if yes, click on the iTunes entry that has a Music note-like icon to its left. Does this start up iTunes program? Let me know which part of this worked and how far you are able to go here.
Second, Do you know how to start Windows Explorer? If not, Click on Start/ All programs/ Accessories/ Windows Explorer. When the Windows Explorer window opens, find an entry called My Documents. I am sure it has a '+' sign to its left, meaning it has other components within it. Click on the '+' sign to expand it. Find the entry "My Music." Click on the '+' sign to its left, and find the folder 'iTunes'. Click the '+' sign to its left and you will find several folders and sub-folders including iTunes Music. If you click on this folder (iTUnes Music), you should see all of your songs. And if you click on the iTunes folder, you will see several files, some with the extension of *.itl and *.xml, which are the Library files that has the Playlists information and all other information that iTunes uses to manage the tracks. Let me know if you see any of these.
Once you do these two steps, we can see where you go from there.
Now, if your iTunes program does not open, then tell us what happens when you try to open it -- write down the exact message you get and let us know that.
    Good luck.

  • New Computer can't add music to iPhone

I have an iPhone 4 and last year bought a new Macbook Pro Retina. I just tried adding some new music to my iPhone and it won't let me unless I delete everything off of it! This is insane. Is there any way around this crap? The retina doesn't fit all my old music, so all it has is 2 new albums I put on there. I don't want to have to dig through hard-drives to find music to put back on the iPhone after it deletes everything.
It is so frustrating to deal with Apple intentionally limiting features when you just gave them an extra $3-4,000 for a new computer. Completely unacceptable.

"I just tried adding some new music to my iPhone and it won't let me unless I delete everything off of it! "
Correct.  It has always been this way Iphone will sync with one and only one computer at a time. Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content.

  • Got new computer, can't get my old purchased music

I bought a new mac recently, how do I get the music I purchased on my account from the last computer on my new itunes?

If you still have the old computer or a back-up of the purchases you simply need to copy the purchases over from the discs or drive they are currently on:
iTunes for Mac: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that still has the purchases on it the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • Got new iMac, can't import iPhoto library from portable HDD

    Hi all,
I just bought a refurbished mid 2012 iMac.  I had kept my iPhoto library on a portable HDD.  When I tried to import the pictures I was first told the files needed to be updated for the new version of iPhoto.  It read it would take a few hours so I let it work overnight.  The next morning, none of the pictures were imported.  In iPhoto there looked like there were event boxes but no images in them.  Now the iPhoto file in my HDD is greyed out so it won't recognize it anymore.
Any ideas what to do.  Got 11 years worth of pictures on there and I don't want to have to pull out all those CDs and do the red eye correction and rotating.
    Mike

There's no importing involved in upgrading.
What format is the external disk?

  • Old computer died, got a new computer, can i put whats on my ipod...

Old computer died, got a new computer, can i put whats on my ipod now into my library on my new computer?
I have looked at the "how to" for transfering a library to a new computer but that seems to be how to do it if your old computer is still working and you have the luxury of planning to move the library.
All I have from the music that was on my old computer is what is already synced into my ipod right now. Can/How do i get this into the iTunes I just downloaded???????

There's an answer to your question but first it's time for a bit of a lecture - if it makes a difference, I don't feel any better about this than you do. : - (
I hope you take this unfortunate state of affairs as an opportunity to learn a very important lesson: Back up your iTunes library as soon as you can after resolving this situation because right now you are only one glitch of your iPod away from losing your music entirely.
Many people come to the Discussions having lost their music in just such situations and, believe me, it's not a happy time for anyone.
Anyways, that's the lecture. You should find a resolution to your problem in this article at wired.com.
Good Luck! But once you have the music back on your computer, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!
    P.S.
If you want to get a bit of a "bigger picture" on back-ups, you might want to make yourself a cup of tea and have a look at this article on the PC World web site and this Microsoft support page .

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

We are all itunes users just like you.
If you are transferring from Mac to Mac, then copy the entire itunes folder.
You can also type :" move itunes library" into the google search bar for directions.
Since you do not mention exactly what you have tried and what happened, it is difficult to offer much more.

  • How can I add a library of flash movies to my site?

I posted this same question on the Dreamweaver forum and a suggestion was made that I try over here for help, so please excuse the duplicate question.
How can I add a library of flash movies to my site?
Hey there everyone and thanks for reading my question.
I have a library of flash movies (specifically a library of maps) and when the map movies are run in Flash they call each other just fine (i.e. the USA map will load the Georgia map when Georgia is clicked on the USA map, etc etc etc for each state).
HOWEVER, when I insert the USA map in one of my site pages (I'm working on the site using Dreamweaver CS4) the USA map page will load, but when a state is clicked the area on the page for the map goes blank and the state map does not load.
Short of coding a specific path in each of my state maps (in the Flash editor) is there a way to tell Dreamweaver there is a library of maps, look there for the sub-map?
and if I do have to code the path to the map, can I code a relative path rather than a specific URL address for the maps?
I know this is probably one of those simple things, but I'm not seeing it (can you tell I'm new at this??)
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Frances

    Hey again,
Thanks for the helpful suggestions. Everyone's comments got me to thinking about what the path was in the calls from the maps.
    here is what finally worked:
    on (release)
    loadMovie("../FlashIMapDownloads/georgia.swf", 0);
this script code is in the action script for the "georgia" button of my main map - a US Map. (I hope I'm describing all this correctly).
I'll post this same info in the Dreamweaver forum too.
    Thanks again!
    Frances

  • New Computer Can't transfer purchased music

I just got a new computer and successfully transferred my library using the consolidate library feature. However, now, when I purchase music, I can't put it on my iPod. I can only put the music that I transferred. How do I get my purchased music to my iPod?

    Hi Tyler,
Have you authorized your new PC to play your purchased music? If you haven't just try to play any of your purchased tunes on your new computer and you'll be prompted for your iTunes store ID and password, you have to be connected to the Internet. Just remember to Deauthorize your old computer if you'll be selling it or giving it away to someone you would not want to listen to your purchased music, remember you can only authorize 5 computers. To deauthorize, go to your old computer, go to Advanced > Deauthorize computer...
    good luck!
