Got new imac g5- NO APPLEWORKS!

I got my IMAC yesterday but there is no appleworks. I have Office 2004 Microsoft word test application. What do I do? Do you have to download appleworks from somewhere? I looked everywhere!

Its similar in some ways to Microsoft Works, brian - an all in one WP, Spreadsheet, Database , Drawing , Painting app.
Been around (originally as "Clarisworks" ) since the year dot on Macs. Your iMac DV's would have both come with a copy.
A great program for general purpose use. Reasonably friendly when it comes to communicating with MS Word, though it can run into probs with more complex formatting. Some Mac users never use anything else. Getting long in the tooth, though, and its starting to show.
The "iWork" suite of Pages and Keynote seem to be where Apple software is heading in this area. Appleworks, by comparison, hasn't been updated now for a long, long time.
Still, for many people it is all they will ever really need - see http://www.apple.com/appleworks/ for more.
Cheers
Rod

  • Got new iMac, I had completed the migration from PC to new Apple computer, but still unable to see the files on the iTunes

got new iMac, I had completed the migration from PC to new iMac, but still unable to see all the apps and music that were saved from the old PC to new iMac. Please help.

My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

What version of Logic do you have?
And if you end up upgrading, it's only $199 now.

  • Got new iMac, can no longer run Aperture on MacBook

I recently upgraded to Aperture 2. It was running fine on my Mac Book Pro. Then I got an iMac. I've been running Aperture on that, no problem. Now when I go to launch Aperture on my MacBook, it tells me to enter the serial #. I enter my upgrade #, and it asks for the original. I cannot find my original Aperture 1 package or serial #. What can I do?? Is there any way to get my original serial # and run Aperture on both of my machines?

If your registration is fully legitimate call 1-800-SOS-APPL and make them work it out.

  • Got new iMac, can't import iPhoto library from portable HDD

    Hi all,
I just bought a refurbished mid 2012 iMac.  I had kept my iPhoto library on a portable HDD.  When I tried to import the pictures I was first told the files needed to be updated for the new version of iPhoto.  It read it would take a few hours so I let it work overnight.  The next morning, none of the pictures were imported.  In iPhoto there looked like there were event boxes but no images in them.  Now the iPhoto file in my HDD is greyed out so it won't recognize it anymore.
Any ideas what to do.  Got 11 years worth of pictures on there and I don't want to have to pull out all those CDs and do the red eye correction and rotating.
    Mike

There's no importing involved in upgrading.
What format is the external disk?

  • Just got new iMac...problems

I bought a 17" 2.0 iMac on Saturday without knowing that new ones were coming. I exchanged it today for the new 20" model. They exchanged it happily and all I had to do was pay a restocking fee. I get the spinning beach ball when I open some programs, it lasts for about 2-5 seconds, is this normal? The internet is also going very slow but works fine on my XP, i dunno if its the computer or the fact that there in different rooms.

Please do not "restore the OS. IMO not good advice.
If you were using the iMac all that three hours, no, it probably wasn't because Spotlight was sharing that time with all the other things that you were doing. Let the Mac have overnight or a number of uninterrupted hours to itself to get the indexing done. Spotlight is how your Mac is able to instantly find things your are trying to locate. It has Gigs of Mac OS X, Apps and your data to index. Once that is finished it knows where everything is, and then just updates itself occasionally when you have added, deleted or changed things.

  • Got new iMac - Want to get rid of old machine's TM/TC backup - How?

Yesterday I received my new 24" iMac , so my Powermac will now retire. Now I want to delete the Powermac Time Machine backup from Time Capsule to get free space for future iMac backups.
I wonder wether I may just copy the whole powermacblablabla.sparsebundle file from the Time Capsule to a different drive and delete it from Time Capsule via Finder? Is this a good solution? Or any better ideas?

So I'll answer it myself, just in case anyone else might be wondering about the same question. I just deleted the sparseimage file via Finder. That's all, and it worked.

  • Can AppleWorks from my '05 G5 be installed in my new iMac?

When I purchased my g5 in 2005, appleworks came standard. yesterday, I purchased a new iMac and now appleworks (along with spreadsheet and something else i'll never use) cost $70 or $80, so I was hoping that I may be able to install the appleworks from my 05 G5. is this possible?
    thanks in advance,
    Jeremiah

In the original Appleworks 6 install log on the G5, the installer created a number of folders in the System folder as well as the Appleworks 6 folder in /Applications. Those folders contain Help files, fonts, MacLink Plus translators, etc. When you say "Any AppleWorks associated files that are required by the application will be created as they are needed, and should NOT be transferred," are these the files you refer to?
The key phrase there is "required by the application".
    In the "System Folder"
I do see an AppleWorks folder in my Application Support folder.
It contains many of the items you mention.
and a Claris folder containing the older XTND translators and some other files,
And an AppleWorks folder in the Preferences folder.
This is the Mac OS 9 System Folder, and the enclosed files are not required by AppleWorks running in OS X. (And running in OS 9 requires Classic, which is not supported on intel based Macs.)
It MAY be useful to move fonts and the translators to the new machine, and I doubt that doing so will do harm, but I can't make a recommendation either way.
In the "System" folder, which belongs to OS X, I don't see any of these items.
Alternatively, should I just use the original Appleworks CD and the 6.2.9 updater (thanks for the link!) to do a clean install of Appleworks on the 10.6 iMac? I know it will need Rosetta to run. I figure I could then move my custom Appleworks templates into the new Starting Points folder.
Installation from your original AW (retail box) CD will either work or return a "not supported on this architecture" or similar message. The message, if returned refers to the installer on the disk, not to AppleWorks 6.2.x.

Hi thanks again, is there a way to do this through Icloud?
    No.
To get your entire iTunes library onto the new computer, copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
That is all you need to do.

  • Need advice: slight defect on new Imac screen, what would you do?

I just got new Imac from apple online store and I noticed that there is a small defect in screen. It is about 1/4 or just a bit smaller inch line that looks like hair. I am not too pleased about it. What would you do?
ps, i had this shipped from online store, so do I take it back to apple for new one since still within 14 days. Not sure how it works if you purchased online.
    thanks

I would ring them up - if you bought it online I'm not sure if you can return it to a store, although if it's one that they sell in store you might. I changed the spec on mine so couldn't return to a store when I had a problem and got it replaced. They'll send a new one out express delivery and arrange for a courier to pick the old one up. I managed to arrange it so the new one arrived the same day as they picked up the old one.

  • Apogee duet 2007 can't be loaded into new imac

just got new imac and upgraded to logic 9. trying to set apogee duet, prompt says it's too old for snow leopard. went to apogee site and downloaded new driver but still won't work. running apogee through firewire 400 into Glyph hard drive in order to get to imac. not sure if that's the problem or what. any help is greatly appreciated

Running through the glyph should not be an issue, but check and then download the software again from Apogee - just check you have the correct one. Note: you don't download a driver - there is no driver for the duet; you download new Maestro software - this works directly with core audio on the Mac which is why it integrates so neatly. Worth a try (when does the message appear and what does it say exactly?).

  • Missing iPhoto for new iMac

    Hi,
Just got new iMac. Great! Using new software that came with it. No iPhoto on my hard drive. Missing. What am I supposed to have? And since I don't have it, how can I get it? I don't see any download for iPhoto. What version should I have with my new iMac? Thanks.
    Ed

Thanks for your prompt answer. I have looked through the applications folder and the rest of the hard drive. I have done a search with spotlight but there is no iPhoto. I have contacted the dealer and will be contacted the individual there that helped set up the transfer of data and applications from my failed iMac G5.
My guess is that they somehow deleted iPhoto in this process
In the booklet that is titled "Everything Mac" it shows iPhoto under iLife.
    That is correct
reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only
For more information click here for the MacWorld article on reinstalling OS X applications.
I have used the Software update to download and install all updates that were listed. Nothing there to update iPhoto.
If there is no iPhoto you can not update iPhoto - iPhoto (and iLife) are not available from downloads - they must be installed from the original disks as noted above and in my first answer
