Got prompt "the location of the document cannot be determined" then presentation GONE!
I'm freaking out! I hope someone can help.
I started getting the prompt "the location of the document cannot be determined" as well as asking me where the movie "VIBCPart1" was, which I thought was odd, as that was the name of the presention - not a movie file. Then Keynote froze - that is, I couldn't save anything and it making me force quit it, and I did.
When I went back to open it the entire preso was just gone - not in the folder at ALL. I did a search - nothing. I do have a duplicate for a backup but I did 12 hours of work on this project today - and I use Backblaze so Time Machine was turned off. And yep, there is some kind of problem with Backblaze! I await their response at this point.
I have a lot of videos in my Keynotes - I often split my presentations up into smaller parts because of that to avoid huge files. I suspect this one got big. In any case, if anyone has any ideas on recovery and how to avoid in the future, I'd be very grateful! Thank you in advance!
Only lately this started to happen to me as well. Problem happens in all iWork applications. Fortunately the apps never locked up completely.
When I try to save a document, I get the dialog that the location could no be found and whether I want to Save As... When doing a Save As the original file is still there and the dialog prompts for overwrite permission. I could save my documents. Just the other day Keynote magically found the document location again when I cancelled the dialog and then right clicked on the document title. The path to the document is correctly listed. I clicked the enclosing folder name on the popup (which did not open, resp. the Finder did not come to front), but a subsequent Save (command-S) worked
Very strange and deeply troubling.
Another observation: after it happended some days ago I ran Disk Utiltiy Verify and it found some problems, which I repaired successfully. Just now I had the very same issue again and right away ran a disk verify. AGAIN issues with the disk (Incorrect block cound for a file, volume bitmap needs minor repair for orphaned bocks, invalid volume free block count). Could this be SSD related (MBP Retina with 750GB original Apple SSD)?
Edit: some typos corrected

The location of the document ... cannot be determined - file save fails.
I'm a bit stuck here.
I just got a new mac pro, installed Logic 9 on it.
When I try to save my progress in the proj I keep getting the message:
The location of the document ** cannot be determined.
You can specify where to save it.
Needless to say this is quite tedious and can't really fly.
When I opened Logic 8 that was installed on another drive (previous system)
I got the same message.
HOWEVER, when I login as 'root' user (super admin)
I'm able to save my work just fine, both on Logic 8 and 9.
Surely I'm missing on some unix / system / permissions thing here.
Is there anything that can be changed ?
cheers
BilletI'm curious if you have changed your username recently? Perhaps Logic was installed by a different user? I've had a similar issue with pages and keynote which I had installed with a user in the admin group and login with a user in the staff group, which is the default user on Snow Leopard.
I have solved this by changing the permissions of the folder into which I wish to save my docs. Go to the folder above the folder you are saving to. For example, if you are saving to the /Users/you/Music/Logic folder then go to the Music folder.
From Utilities > Terminal:
sudo chmod -Rf 755 YOURFOLDERNAME
enter your admin password when prompted
For example I want to save to the desktop. I open the finder and go to my home directory then
sudo chmod -Rf 755 Desktop
That's it!

Error saving: The location of the document " DOC NAME " cannot be determined.
I am having issues saving .pages files on to our network drive after upgrading to Mavericks and Pages 5.0.
A bunch of errors and issues occur when editing old or saving new pages files on our local SMB server. Saving files on to my local machine is fine.
I cannot save to the original network location at all. It errors: The location of the document "<DOC NAME>" cannot be determined. The folder in question has permissions that have always worked before the upgrade of mavericks/pages. I can rename the files in question, and save other types of files in to that folder without issue.
When it errors, it provides the option to Save as... this also fails, no matter where I try to save it to - local or network.
The auto-save feature fails for the same reason. This creates several temp folders with blank pages documents in it.
Most disturbingly, it appears to be destroying the original file by renaming it to a temp file, that is henceforth un-usable. Luckily Ive got backups of the documents.
Help!Update:
The new version of Numbers also comes up with the same errors.
The previous version of both Pages and Numbers work absolutely fine still - have had to revert to using these for now. -
How do I use Spotlight to find the location of a document?
Spotlight used to show the location of document when I hovered the mouse over an item in its list. It no longer does this. Now it tells me that a document exists and allows me to open the document, but doesn't tell me where to find the document. How do I use Spotlight to find the location of a document?
Hi Thomas ...
Open System Preferences > Spotlight then select the Search Results tab.
Select the all the categories for the search results you want.
Restart your Mac.
If that didn't help the Spotlight preferences may be corrupted.
Go to ~/LIbrary/Preferences
Move the com.apple.spotlight.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Try Spotlight.

I cannot play my rented movie because itunes cannot locate where the original file, has anyone face this problem before? Where can I find the location of the downloaded movie?
What did you use to download it with? iPad? iPhone? Computer?
If it's an iPad/iPhone, play it using the videos app.
If on the computer, look on the left side of iTunes in the library under movies. -

Is there an option to have the location of the file on each document? (ie. S:\Policies and Procedures\Work Day\Time Sheet.xlsx)
I am looking for an option that will allow this on each of our documents for an easy access. It may already have an option, I am just unaware of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For starters, can you tell us what software you are talking about? I can assume Adobe Reader but you use .xls in your example.
If you are talking about Adobe Reader and pdf files, then unfortunately the answer is no. If something else, please be descriptive about the issue so we can guide you to the right place. -
How can I find the location of the signature used in the Adobe Reader signature feature?
How can I find the location of the signature used in the Adobe Reader signature feature? I've been using the signature feature for a while now and it works great and I'd like to use it on another computer. However, I forgot where I stored the signature. Adobe finds it with no problems (the signature pops up when I click "Place Signature"), but I have no idea where it is.
Hello,
It's here - C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\Security\
For more information, please refer - Cannot create a digital ID/signature

How can I change the location for the backup from iphone to itunes?
How can I change the location for the backup from iphone to itunes? I want to backup to my external harddisk and not the computer itself. How do I do it?
Moving the iOS device backup location
Open a command prompt by hitting the start button and typing CMD<Enter> in the search box that opens up, or with Start > Run on older Windows.
To move the current backup folder from C: to D: (for example) type in this command and press <Enter>
Move "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
Where <User> is your Windows user name.
To make iTunes look for the data in the new location type in this command and press <Enter>
MkLink /J "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
If your preferred drive has a different letter or you already have a folder called "Backup" then edit "D:\Backup" accordingly in both commands.
If you have Windows XP then you'll need a third-party tool such as Junction to link the two locations together instead of the MkLink command. The source folder is C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

I have a 2012 r2 server setup with folder redirection and offline files enabled. All this works perfectly.
As you probably know, the local cache for offline files is stored at c:\windows\csc\v2.0.6\namespace\servername\
The problem I have run into is that one user (who cannot be told to delete files cough ceo cough) has a very large documents folder, and a small SSD drive for his C drive. So the offline files are filling up his SSD. He wants all his files to be synced,
so decreasing the max disk usage is also not an option.
What I would like to do is move the Offline files to his D drive which is a large drive, however I have been unable to find any official method for doing this. Is there any provision to change this?
If not, would it work to move the entire \servername\ path to the d drive and then create a junction at c:\windows\csc\v2.0.6\namespace\servername\ that points to d:\servername\?
Thanks,
TravisHi,
The following article is for Windows Vista but it should work at least in Windows 7.
How to change the location of the CSC folder by configuring the CacheLocation registry value in Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937475
Meanwhile creating a symbolic link should also work like:
mklink /d "C:\Windows\CSC" "D:\CSC"
Note: It will create d:\csc folder so you do not need to manually create it.
Note 2: As mentioned above, you may need to re-sync the offline files. Personally I also think robocopy will not work.

"click on the link for each error to highlight the location of the error in the PDF file" fails
I'm working on a document which has tables in it. When I run the accessibility checker for 508 compliance, it tells me the document failed the test (g) 4 Table element(s) with no TH child elements and then provides links to the 4 tables in question. Now, when I click on those links, nothing happens. I know it is supposed to take me to the location of the problem table, and in fact this has worked for me in other documents in the past. Why is it not working now? I could really use this functionality because there are more than 4 tables so I can't tell which ones are failing the test without Acrobat highlighting them for me.
Thanks!
MaddieHmm, I tried that but it didn't solve the problem. When I searched for the tables there was always something in the code for the table. Also, saving the PDF to HTML really messed up the layout of the file, so it was hard to tell how well it paralleled the code in the PDF file.
However, I don't know if this would give you any ideas, but these are links from the Accessibility Report, from the list "Structure errors: 7 table element(s) with no TH child elements."
This is one that took me to a table:
file:///U|/Booklets/second%20edition%202011-2016/booklet-2/Book.TwoTAGGED.pdf#page=26&high light=50,558,675,180
This is what ALL the other 6 look like (which, when clicked, took me nowhere):
file:///U|/Booklets/second%20edition%202011-2016/booklet-2/Book.TwoTAGGED.pdf#page=0&highl ight=-32768,-32768,-32768,-32768
It makes me think that there are some artifact tables floating out in space somewhere, at the location "-32768,-32768,-32768,-32768."
If there was some way for me to find them and either tag them as artifacts or delete them... that might solve the problem! Do you know if there is a way?
Thanks!

How to get the location of the caret?
Hello
I want to get the location of the caret. Not the offset of the document.
I have tried the Caret.getMagicCaretPosition(), but I think it gives me a point in viewport.
How can I get the absoult location of the caret(the location on screen ,not in viewport)?
Thank you very much.
Best wishesThankyou ,You reply seems to help me ,but I am still confused that this method returns void ,how can I get the result of the point on screen?
When I want the caret location (the caret belongs to a JTextPane) on screen, I invoke :
SwingUtilities.convertPointToScreen(textPane.getCaret().getMagicCaretPositon(),textPane);
but how can I get the result of the convertion?
Thank you! -
I edit the location in the info pane, but it doesn't show up in Places!
Hi everyone, I have recently started to use iPhoto '09 but having a little difficult with Places. I do not have geotagging, so I am editing the location of my photos manually (nothing too specific, just the city). When I first attempted it, I used the info pane for the event, added the city (saw a pin drop in the appropriate location on the mini-map in the info pane) and then clicked done. However when I went to the Places window...no pins were on the world map!
I closed the computer and decided to try again the next day. Although I cannot imagine I did anything different, this time it worked! Yeah!
But today I added new photos and again edited the locations in the info pane (clicked the little 'i' in the right bottom corner), but while the info pane shows the correct location both in words (Location) and on the mini-map...when I go to the Places window, the pins are no where to be found (only see the pins from the previous day).
Am I missing something simple here? It's driving me nuts! hahaha...I'm going from memory since this is done from work, but I believe you have to use semi-complete addresses (IE., 'Chicago' by itself won't work, you need to use 'Chicago, Il.' or 'Chicago, Illinois'. IF the address is for a 'Place' iPhoto knows (and it knows hundreds if not thousands of places) it will pop up and allow you to choose that location. If nothing happens, that probably means iPhoto doesn't know that 'Place' and you need to provide a more complete or more accurate name for it. Like I say, try getting in the habit of using at least a City and State... you can also choose the 'Locate on Map' feature and it will actually show a map of the place and you can Move the Pin to exactly where you want it, choose from Satellite View, Terrain View, Map view, zoom in, out, or enlarge or reduce the area covered by the Pin (the Blue Circle around the pin. Hope this helps...

What is the location of the LiveCycle ES Repository?
Based on LiveCycle Designer Help, you can set up a Web Directory and Map it to the LiveCycle ES repository.
This is used when running Designer outside of WorkBench.
Can someone provide an example of specifying the location using the JBoss Turnkey installation.
I am not able to get a successful mapping to the repository.
Thank You.
Mark
From Help:
Publishing to the LiveCycle ES repository
If you are using Designer ES outside of Workbench ES and want to use resources, such as images and fragments, that reside in the repository, you can set up a web folder on your file system and map it to the location in the repository. When you publish the form, links to the resources are maintained. You use the Publish to Repository command to copy the files into the repository. See To publish a form to a repository.OK - So here is the answer:
Navigate to My Network Places
Select Add a network place
Enter http://<server>:<port>/repository
When prompted enter the username and password of a user that has the correct rights to access the repository.
You will be prompted for the credentials once again then the Add Network Wizard will display a panel letting you identify a name for the network place.
Click Next
Select the check box to open this connection and select finish.
Thanks to Mark Szulc's blog for the above answer.
Once this is inplace, your stand-alone Designer can access and update artifacts in the Workbench Repository. -
