Got this message when trying to unstuff file (Image)

Got the following message when I tried to Unstuff a file:
Now the question I would like to know, is there an app (in utilities perhaps) how I can find out what program made the file and/or what operation system it can be used on? In this particular case it is a .sitx, but would like to know this for future reference of how to find out the origin of any file.

.sitx files are made by recent versions of Stuffit Deluxe. You can try the free Stuffit Expander or The Unarchiver - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
