GPO 2012 RDS Desktop Session - Hide All Application Arrow
Does anyone have any ideas how to hide the all apps arrow on the metro interface please?
running a SBS 2011 server with Win 2012 Std RDS for remote workers.
Many thanks
Hi,
Thanks for posting in the forum.
As far as I know, we could not hide the All Applications Arrow-down icon from Start Screen via Group Policy.

Why does "Hide all Applications" not hide all applications?
Currently, when I invoke the "Hide all Applications" action, it leaves some apps visible. This happens all the time with Safari if it is open. This is clearly a bug -- is there a workaround for it?
found this link a helpful workaround! (hint: use Option key when selecting apps and it closes them off desktop so you're left only with the one app window you want - not all of them)

Using 2012 Remote Desktop Web access to gain access to published applications. The workstation was a Windows 8.1 (home) upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro with the Media Center add on. Launching the url to the login page for the RDW works fine. When the app is
clicked on to launch the Remote App crashes. How do I get it to properly connect. Other Windows 8.1 pro workstations work. Although none were upgraded from the 8.1 (home) Here is the event.

Windows 2012 Remote desktop session host server not detecting RD licensing server
Hi,
We have a customer server which is Windows 2012. We installed RDS session host server role and configured it to use RD licensing server as per the
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839?wa=wsignin1.0
After configuring, when I open RD license diagonser tool, it says, RD license server is not available. Also shows, credential not available. When I enter the credential by clicking, provide credentials, it does not get applied. I see no event logs related
to RD service. However, I see the below event log which points to RD licensing server.
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer <RD license server> using any of the configured protocols; requested by PID 273c (C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe).
Please help in fixing the issue.
Thanks,
UmeshHi Umesh,
Thanks for your comment.
During your configuration, have you specified RD License server for RDSH to use?
You can also specify a license server for the RD Session Host server to use by applying the Group Policy under below path.
Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing
Use the specified Remote Desktop license servers – Provide the FQDN of the license servers to use
Also this setting can be specified by below method.
To configure the license server on RDSH/RDVH:
$obj = gwmi -namespace "Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices" Win32_TerminalServiceSetting
$obj.SetSpecifiedLicenseServerList("License.contoso.com")
Note “License” is the name of the License Server in the environment
To verify the license server configuration on RDSH/RDVH:
$obj = gwmi -namespace "Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices" Win32_TerminalServiceSetting
$obj.GetSpecifiedLicenseServerList()

Hello there. Someone I know is having a hard transition from OS9 to OSX. Is there a keyboard command on OSX to hide all open windows and show the desktop? Is there a program that puts that application switcher thing from OS9 in the menu bar, in OSX? Any info that would ease the transition is appreciated. Thanks
977/3423
Yes,
using Exposé you can show the desktop the F11 way (or set hot corners for the mouse).
You can also switch between application windows, or all applications windows: play with the F9 and F10 options followed by Tab.
You can also use Application Switcher to toggle between all open apps:
Command-Tab (keep Command down then Tab-Tab-Tab or `-`-`).
Hide All:
you can only "Hide Others", using the usual Option-Command-H shortcut, or by Option-holdclicking the Finder icon in the Dock.
By the way, you can combine mousing with the F keys too.
Enjoy your Mac!

Single session for all Application Modules
Hello,
I've got an application that has several Application Modules. All these modules need some data that are set from time to time. I've written some code that calls getSession().getUserData().put("myData",myData). After this method was called in another Application Module i want to retrieve myData with getSession().getUserData().get("myData"). But the result depends if I use 2-tier or 3-tier. In 2-tie I get myData while in 3-tier I get null. My question is:
Is there a Session object or any other data instance that could be accessed from all Application Modules for on application instance.
E.g. I've got two user (A,B) who start my application. Through using my app several instance of Application Modules are created. All Application Modules that are created for the instance of User A should be able to share his user name and some other dynamic data while the Application Modules created for B should have no access to that data.
Doe anybody know if static data of an Application Module are a possible solution?
regards
JoergHi Joerg,
I am not 100% sure what you are trying to achieve, and with which version of JDeveloper/ ADF, technologies (JSP, Swing), etc, but I can tell you that I have been experimenting with single session accounts myself within a rich-client Swing environment, as I have experienced Oracle DBA guys who want to control user authentication via Oracle accounts (I have achieved this via the JCLoginDialog mechanism, and a bit of a hack)... Frank Nemphius (sp?) posted something about a white paper coming out on a related subject but I don't know where he is with that.
Anyway, I managed to do it in a prototype by nesting several application modules within a Root Application Module that was essentially simply a Container for the other application modules. Using this mechanism I was able to bind my root application module to any panel I wanted and it would inherit the roots Session.
ie. I used many application modules and it only used one Oracle Session.
However, my reservations -
1) This solution was not tested robustly!
2) I doubt this would be ideal for a distributed app with thousands of users - My solution is for a very complex app, with a limited number of users.
Finally, I cannot confirm this is a great solution - I can only tell you it worked in my prototype, and I am currently awaiting the ADF source - when my company and Oracle can decide what level of support we currently have and need!?!? - what exactly does being an "Oracle partner" mean??? Its all very boring and un-interesting to a Java person like me... ;-)
Once I have the source I will look at how it actually works and perhaps be able to answer questions like this more definitively. Hmm - I wonder if I could get the Oracle JDBC driver source too?? .... Is it written in C or C++?? I know them too... ;-)
Cheers........Dean -
Does Cmd+H not hide all applications in Yosemite?
When I press Cmd+H to hide each open app, it works as expected until I get to the last visible app. Instead of the last app being hidden and showing my desktop, pressing Cmd+H will either toggle (hide/unhide) between the last two apps, or not hide the last app at all.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior? Is it possible to restore the Mavericks behavior where I can simply hide all the apps to eventually see the desktop? (Note - this is different than Mission Control's Show Desktop)
Thanks in advance for any info!found this link a helpful workaround! (hint: use Option key when selecting apps and it closes them off desktop so you're left only with the one app window you want - not all of them)

RDS 2012-PUBLISING REMOTEAPPS WITH VIRTUAL DESKTOP SESSION
Hello, I deployed a RDS 2012 VIRTUAL DESKTOP SESSION FARM.
Is it possible publish a REMOTEAPPS with Virtual Desktop Session?, I only find information with Remote Desktop Session
Thanks
RegardsHi,
Seems this is not the possible scenario for deployment, we need to have Session based deployment as both virtual desktop session and session based deployment differs from other.
Thanks.

P2055dn won't appear in RDP/Remote Desktop session
I have an XP workstation which had a Laserjet 4100. When it connected to a 2003 Server running Terminal Services, the printer appeared, I could use an application on the server and get my printout at the 4100. Now I have replaced it with a P2055dn, but this printer won't show up at all. I have tried the following things:
1) Install the standard PCL 6 driver, both on the workstation and the server
2) Install the express network driver as above
3) Install the Universal Print driver as above
Nothing works.
To be clear, the 2055dn is network attached, which is to say that the XP machine prints to it through a Microsoft Standard TCP/IP port. I specify this because for some reason the HP install routine insists on creating an HP Standard TCP/IP port. I'm not sure what the difference is, but the port I used beforehand was a Microsoft one, so I stuck with that.
I have other printers that the XP machine connects to in the same way, and those show up and print without issue.
I have seen posts about host-based printers not working, but I was told by the HP tech that the 2055 is NOT host-based.
Any clues ?I originally posted this for a 1022printer but it applies across the board to HP printers. I have yet to see this pop onon other networked printers. My HP 990c works just fine as does ny LJ5, etc.
After many months of frustration and 7 1/2 hours with Microsoft advanced prof support I've finally pinned down this printer and a slew of others. This problem as far as I have come across deals exclusively with HP printers. In simple terms: the drivers are flawed. This 1022 is a prime example. It prints locally and via TCP/IP just fine. I have about 7 other printers and dummy printers in my printer folder. Enter a remote desktop session and ALL of them populate except the 1022. This shows that the hooks and RDT finders are locating your printers and installing them properly as remote printers. All except the 1022.
Log out of your RDT session: goto the local 1022 setup and change the printer driver to a PCL driver. I used a 1200 PCL driver. Now log back into your RDT server and hockus pocus! there is your printer. Totally un-usable because the driver will not run this printer. Caveat: each time I did this XP crashed (I couldn't get to the properties TAB anymore -- I had to un-install the 1022 and then re-install it with at least 1 reboot in the process)
Moving on we go to the HP OfficeJet/LajerJet2840. Same thing. It won't pass through as remote printer in RDT. Go local. Set the printer driver to AppleLaserWriter8500 and boom. (same logout, change, back in steps) and your LJ2840 shows up and works.
While I will have to wait until tomorrow I am betting that this will fix the exact same problem with the HP Officejet 8500A all in one with the exact same problem.
Hey HP? Whats with the drivers??
Another work around if you have a static enough environment is to install your local printer that will not show up under RDT on the server, and then point the port to your fixed IP on your router, and passthru port 9100 to your locally installed printer that is failing. You can now be on RDT and chooses the network printer that is printing to the TCP address of your home (or office) router. -
i want to hide the highlighter on the desktop which shows all the application that we are using .

Windows 2012 RDS - Session Host servers High Availability
Hello Windows/Terminal server Champs,
I am new middle of implementing RDS environment for one of my customer, Hope you could help me out.
My customer has asked for HA for RDS session host where applications are published, and i have prepared below plan for server point of view.
2 Session Host server, 1 webaccess, 1 License/connection
Broker & 1 Gateway (DMZ).
In first Phase, we are planning to target internal user
who connect to Session host HA where these 2 servers will have application installed and internal user will use RDP to access these application.
In second Phase we will be dealing with external Party who connect from external network where we are planning to integrate with NetIQ => gateway
=> Webaccess/Session host
I have successfully installed and configured 2 Session
Host, 1 license/Broker. 1 webAccess & 1 Gateway. But my main concern to have session Host High Available as it is hosting the application and most of the internal user going to use it. to configure it i am following http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753891.aspx
However most of the Architecture is change in RDS 2012. can you please help me out to setup the Session Host HA.
Note: we can have only 1 Connection broker /Licensing server , 1 webacess server & 1 Gateway server, we cannot increase more server due to cost
factor.
thanks in advance.Yes, absolutely no problem in just using one connection broker in your environment as long as your customer understands the SPOF.
the session hosts however aren't really what you would class HA - but to set them up so youhave reduancy you would use either Windows NLB, an external NLB device or windows dns round robin. My preferred option when using the connection broker is DNS round
robin - where you give each server in the farm the same farm name dns entry - the connection broker then decides which server to allocate the session too.
You must ensure your session host servers are identical in terms of software though - same software installed in the same paths on all the session host servers.
if you use the 2012 deployment wizard through server manager roles the majority of the config is done for you.

Denis Cooper

Hi All,
I am using a Windows server 2012 Standard. When i leave my session idle for more than 20 min it disconnects and post more 20 minutes my session is logged off.
I know this setting can be changed from Remote desktop session host configuration in Windows server 2008 R2. But this option "Remote desktop session host configuration" is not there in Windows server 2012. Does any one have an idea where do i go
and edit these settings in the Server 2012 o/s ?
Also the Remote session shadowing option is also not available when i right click a user in the task manager. Any idea on an alternate method in Windows server 2012 ?
Gautam.75801Exactly WHERE are the W2K12 R2 equivalent GPO settings to W2K8 R2 GPO settings of "Set time limit for disconnected sessions" and "set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services
sessions"? Microsoft changed the remote desktop/terminal services around.
Appreciate it.

Server 2012 RDS - newly opened applications don't receive focus
Hi,
We're having an issue that occurs when you're already working in an RDP session to a 2012 RDS/TS, you open up a new application and it doesn't receive focus. It's getting compounded by users thinking there is a problem with the server/application and logging
off and back on again to resolve it.
I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem before and knows of a fix for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
LukeHi Luke,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Are you using RemoteApp or accessing application through RDP?
Here in your case suggest you to update your RDP client version to RDP 8.1 and check the result.

Remote Desktop Session Host on Server 2012 not domain-joined
I have a server 2012 which is running Remote Desktop Session Host role without the Connection Broker like described here:
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2833839
Now the client would like the Network Level Authentication (NLA) disabled. And since server 2012 does not have the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool, I have to use the server manager console.
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/630cc818-69b0-4e1c-8d65-1b895b20e203/where-is-the-remote-desktop-session-host-configuration-tool-in-server-2012-?forum=winserverTS
But when I go to the remote Desktop Services of Server manager, it says “You are currently logged on as local administrator on the computer. You must be logged on as a domain user to manage servers and collections.”
So I tried finding some Powershell cmdlet could help me with the problem. I guess
Get-RDServer
or Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration would be the ones but I can’t seem to make them work.
Any help, or a hint that I going in the right direction or not?Hi,
Have you configure the certificate for your server?
Add the user under Remote Desktop user local group, configure FQDN name of server. Please see that if we are using RDS server in workgroup then most of the tools provided to make managing/configuring RDSH servers easier in 2012 will not work in a workgroup
configuration including some PowerShell command. You can check the below article for information.
Deploying a RDSH Server in a Workgroup – RDS 2012 R2
Hope it helps!

Nvidia GPU GRID K1
Host Server - Dell Power edge R720 128 gig RAM 2 Xeon E5-2640v2 2.0GHz, 20M cache 8c
Windows 2012 R2 full installation – Bios and all hardware with latest updates.
Roles - Hyper V and Remote Desktop Virtualization Host
EPT, GPU, WDDM (latest drivers) compatible for RemoteFX and fully up to date.
I have disabled the video adaptor on the motherboard.
I cannot complete with administrative permissions;
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-RemoteFX-EmbeddedVideoCap-Setup-Package
Error: 0x800f080c
Feature name Microsoft-Windows-RemoteFX-EmbeddedVidoCap-Setup-Package is unknown
Question 1 - because video card on motherboard disabled, do I still need to complete this command?
VM’s
**I’m not interested in VDI but more Remote Desktop Sessions and the option to ‘pinch and zoom with Windows 8.1 tablets**
VM1 - Windows 2012 R2 configured as generation 1 that is fully patched.
This VM is able to start up and run until I add the new hardware for the RemoteFX Video adaptor from within the Hyper V settings. When I start the VM the server blue screens. I have tried multiple VM’s with 2012 but same thing
If I created the VM as Generation 2 I am able to start the VM but the RemoteFX adaptor doesn’t appear in the device manager. I have read generation 2 isn’t compatible with RemoteFX.
VM2 – *Testing purposes* - Windows 8.1 Enterprise configured as generation 1 that is fully patched.
This VM I am able to start up and run the VDI after the RemoteFX video adaptor is installed, also the correct adaptor appears in the device manager. This seems to at least work correctly but I cannot pinch and zoom and the experience is poor.
GPU summary within the Hyper V settings state there are 4 physical GPU’s all of which can be used with RemoteFX and that 1 virtual machine are using the GPU (Windows 8.1 enterprise VM)
Firewalls off, latest RDP clients
I have read you should be able to use Windows 2012 R2 and we should be able to use the sessions with pinch and zoom but now and then you come across something that tells me different.
Question 2 – I need this to work with Windows 2012 R2 so we can use Remote Desktop Sessions
and the tablets can use pinch and zoom, anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong?Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
As per my research, you need to run the command although video adapter is disabled on motherboard. If you install the RemoteFX cap driver, the integrated video adapter is disabled while the operating system is running.
For more information you can refer beneath article.
1. RemoteFX (with Hyper-V) is a serious business tool. For games.
2. Configure RemoteFX in Hyper-V running Windows Server 2012 with low end GPU
Hope it helps!
Thanks.
