GPP File Copy overwrite newer file

I don't know if im doing something wrong, or this is a feature, but does File copy from GPP, overwrite the destination file, even if the destination has newer time stamp?
I actually want this to happen, but it is not. Hence, I am assuming if the destination file is newer, then it does not copy.
Thanks,
DM

Some files (as well as some registry keys) are owned by Trusted
Installer - even SYSTEM lacks write access to them. And of course, you
cannot overwrite a file with open handles :)

  • Recently updated Mac OS 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 and and can not open exisiting Illustrator5 files or save new files.

    I recently updated my MacBook Pro OS from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 and can not open existing Illustrator5 files or save new files can someone help?

    I think you have a corrupted upgrade. Do you have a backup of your old system?
    Here's what you should do for now:
    Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
    If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
    Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Cannot open files or create new files in Photoshop cc trial

    Hi,
    after getting no support from your phone support line. I am writing here in hopes that this issue can be resolved. I cannot open files or create new files in Photoshop CC trial. Please help

    You can open Photoshop, you cannot create new documents. If you click file>new, the normal new dialog box opens, if you click "ok" it goes away. If you double click a PSD it focuses the Photoshop window. Nothing else happens.
    For me this is a new issue today. My computer is an i7/780, more than capable of Photoshop, and has run it fine up until now. My keyboard started freaking out last night and doing things I didn't want it to. I suspect it changed a setting or broke something.
    I have uninstalled and re-installed and it did not resolve the issue.
    This is obviously a critical issue that needs immediate attention.

  • LOOOOOONG pauses in Windows Explorer with file copy, rename, new folder, etc.

    I am using Windows 7 64-bit pro and I am experiencing horribly long pauses in Windows Explorer on very simple file operations, such as renaming a file, copying a file, creating a new folder, etc. Here is an example:
    1. Open a folder in windows explorer, e.g. My Documents
    2. Select a file
    3. Hit F2 and enter a new name for the file, then hit ENTER to save the name
    4. Windows Explorer now shows the wait cursor and becomes completely unresponsive, sometimes for MINUTES.
    This is crazy. I read somewhere it may be due to shell extensions -- another post specifically called out MagicDisc, but I uninstalled that and still have the problem. After a fresh reboot the problem usually is not there immediately, but always comes back eventually.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Lex3001,
    I would like to confirm what are the results in Safe Mode and Clean Boot?
    I also would like to suggest you run ShellExView again and disable some shell extensions to check the issue.
    Run ShellExView
    =================
    1. Launch ShellExView again and scan the computer.
    2. Press "Ctrl" on the keyboard and click all items which are marked in pink in the list.
    3. Choose "File" then "Disable Selected Items".
    4. Quit and restart the computer to check the Windows Explorer issue again.
    Does it work?
    In addition, I also would like to suggest you create a new user account to check the result

  • Show file details before copying/overwriting a file?

    Hi,
    Is there a way in Mac OS to see file details (e.g., date, size) when copying a file into a folder already containing a file of the same name?
    That is, instead of the copy dialog box asking "An item named 'file.doc' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?", is there a way to show the file details of both files so I can determine if they are the same file, or different version of a file that share the same name?
    What I'm really looking for is for Mac OS to ask me if I want to replace file x (##MB, dd/mm/yyyy) with file y (##MB, dd/mm/yyyy) and give me enough information to actually answer that question.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    When I get that message I make a small change in the name, usually adding a number and then save. Afterward I look in the folder and see if they are the same, sometimes by Get info on the file, sometimes dates and weight and sometimes by opening both in the application.

  • Using Automator to Copy Only New Files to a Destination Folder

    Hello,
    I need an AppleScript to copy a source directory (including all subfolders and files) to a destination folder, but one that checks for duplicate files and only copies files across from the source directory if they aren't already contained in the destination directory.
    I have a script that checks the files, but it only copies files from the source directory and ignores all subfolders and the files within those.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    You can create a Service workflow to get the folder(s).  The workflow would consist of actions to save the input items to a vatiable (so they can be refiltered), then get the input items, apply a filter, and move the resulting items - for example:
    Service receives selected folders in Finder
    Get Folder Contents
    Set Value of Variable { Variable: Original Items }
    Filter Finder Items { Find files where: kind is music }
    Move Finder Items { To: Automatically Add to iTunes }
    Get Value of Variable { Variable: Original Items } ( Ignore Input )
    Filter Finder Items { Find files where: kind is image }
    Move Finder Items { To: Album Artwork }
    ...repeat the Get/Filter/Move actions as needed for other filters
    Thanks, the "Set Value of Variable" concept is what I was missing. It almost works. The music files get moved, but then it says the workflow encounters a problem and the image files aren't being moved. I'm assuming it's an issue with steps 5-7. Thoughts?

  • Reading and writing u16 binary file to a new file

    Hello all,
    a very simple thing that I just don't seem to be able to figure out. I have a file containing 1024bytes of unsigned 16bit words. I can read it successfully with the right value  being displayed. But then I try to write these values to a new file, I can no longer read the same value (in fact it's all grayed out 0) from the newly written file. The newly written file has the right size 1024 bytes, but I don't seem to obtain the right information. I made sure the endian are the same, little-endian.
     Attached is my basic VI, and the .dat file is the file containing the binary information.
    I'm not using copy file because once I get this figure out, I'll need to append more of the Scan.dat file to one single file.
    Thank you!
    Solved!

    I would put some wait time between the write and the read.  It may be a good idea to actually close the file in between.
    I have a feeling that you may not have allowed enough time to actually have the file written out before you read it again.  That or since it is still open, the file pointer is at the end of the file and you are trying to read all the bytes starting at the end, which means you get nothing.
    Not sure of the exact issue, but those two things comes to mind.

    You've made a very, very common mistake and one discussed in numerous postings. When running in development mode and using the Current VI's Path, the path to a VI would be something like c:\folder\example.vi. When built, it becomes c:\folder\app.exe\example.vi. An extra strip path is required. Look at this, this, and this.

    When I copy files from the MBP to a USB disk, instead of copying the files as is, the Mac converts the files into a .LNK file, which then shows up as "shortcuts" rather than the copied file in Windows. Why is this?

  • Resizing JPEG Files and overwrite existing files

    I've got a folder with about 30 subfolders with JPEGs only. I need to resize all of them to a specific size and they must stay within the subfolder structure they currently reside in. I have selected all of the files (using the show files in subfolders menu setting) and have tried to Export so that the smaller files go back in the original folder and also "Overwrite WITHOUT WARNING". When I do this, LR3 will go through it's process, but will come up with a message like this one:
    Is what I am seeking to accomplish not possible in Lightroom? Or is there another way to do this? I'm about ready to make a Photoshop Action to get this over with but wanted to see if LR can do what I need it to do.

    Thanks for the response. These are not original RAW images, but are images for a project I'm working on. I have all the original RAW files, but they are scattered throughout my library on different volumes. I had originally exported the RAWs into one JPEG folder, then sorted images into a bunch of different subfolders during the editing process. Some files still have camera names and some are renamed, so doing it over again by re-exporting and sorting to move in chunks is not an option. I simply want a way to overwrite the images without having to resort everything back into the different subfolders. Isn't that what the "Overwrite WITHOUT WARNING" should be for? I don't understand why it won't let me overwrite the images.

  • Releasing File resources after "new File()"

    Hi, I'm experiencing the following problem. I'd like to list the properties of files in a directory, so I do something like
    File dir = new File(".");
    String[] files = dir.list();
    for(int i = 0; i < files.length; i++){
    System.out.println(new File(files).lastModified());
    I gather these calls to "new File()" do hold some read locks to the files, when are these locks released? at GC time? is there anyway to force/guarantee the release?

    I gather these calls to "new File()" do hold some
    read locks to the files, No, they don't. File just has metada about the file--name, path, size, etc. It doesn't open the file or lock it or anything.
    The ones you need to clean up are the Input/OutputStreams and Readers and Writers. Those have close() methods. There's also java.nio.channels.FileLock and associated classes mentioned in its docs.

  • New File("C:") vs new File("C:\\") ?

    Hi all
    Can someone help me with why new File("C:") creates a File that points to the current working directory?
    A simple test program:
    import java.io.File;
    public class Test {
         //C: is the root partition of my hard drive
         //D: is another partition of that same hard drive
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              System.out.println(new File("C:").getAbsolutePath());
              System.out.println(new File("C:\\").getAbsolutePath());
              System.out.println(new File("D:").getAbsolutePath());
    }Output:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Anthony\Desktop
    C:\
    D:\
    So why doesn't new File("C:") behave as i expect it to behave, i.e. the same as new File("C:\\") & analog to new File("D:") ?
    Thanks in advance
    Anthony

    I suspect the answer to that is that "C:" is not a folder path it is a raw drive designation in Windows.
    It is presumably similar to when you are using a CMD/DOS window and from the D drive you go cd C:\myfolder, and are surprised when you're still on the D drive.
    ... and if you don't supply a path, by default files go into your "home" directory.

  • File copy of large file fails.

    I am trying to copy a large file, say "file.txt", from an external drive to my hard drive. The size of the file is 140 GB. I have tried twice, and both times the copy operation has stopped (after a couple of hours and 135 GB) with the message: "Operation cannot be completed. File already exists." The only file named file.txt that exists at that time is the partial one that was copied.
    What's going on and how can I perform the file copy?
    Thanks!

    Can you tell me if the external drive (for any of the respondents) was NOT formatted with a Mac partition? Instead something like NTFS or FAT?
    The file transfer failure issue is a recurrent frustration to a lot of users for many iterations of the Finder. Either through singular large file transfers or through multiple files (thousands) that in total are large in size.
    I am speculating that the issue arises from files being transferred between storage locations of differing formats or in the case of internet based storage varying file translations. In part this speculation exists because I do not seem to experience this issue if the drives are all Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    Just looking to confirm your configuration.

  • Xml adapt an old file to a new file

    I have this problem in Labview 2011: I have an old XML file created with Labview blocks from a cluster. Now I need to modify that cluster adding some variables inside. How can I insert the variables in the XML file (with a default value) without throwing away all the old data?
    I need a universal method and I know that won't be simple, but I'll appreciate teh simplest.
    Thank you in advance

    There is no "universal" method.
    You have two choices:
    Create a VI that reads in the old file and puts the information into the old cluster. Then repackage the data into the new cluster, adding the new data. Then write out the file in the new format.
    Update the XML file manually. Did you use the Write to XML VI? If so, you are using the LabVIEW schema. This schema is documented in the LabVIEW Help, so you can read it and then modify the file using a simple text editor. Did you use the XML Parser VIs? If so, you are using your own schema, and you can modify the XML file accordingly.
