GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, 3G - when are they used?

If a phone is GPRS, HSCSD or EDGE compatible, what does this mean for the user?
Is it faster only when browsing the Internet, or does it use those superior data transfer speeds to send SMS and MMS messages faster? On my old 3410 if a write a long SMS message (sent as 3 concatenated messages) I must wait a really long time for it to be sent.
I do not intend to browse the Internet from my mobile phone or to make videocalls (3G speeds) in the next few years. So, would I benefit in any way if my phone was GPRS, HSCSD or EDGE compatible?
Thanks,
Mike

They are different networking and in particular packet data connection mechanisms (except HSCSD which is a faster, and more expensive, circuit-switched - dial-up - data connection mechanism on GSM networks).
They'll have no impact on SMS, but they will on sending and retrieving MMS, or anything else that requires a data connection (web or WAP browsing, email, instant messaging, application downloads, etc.).
Note also that the support in the phone is useless, if the network doesn't have the corresponding support, too.

    Yes, they will use a very small amount of your internet bandwidth to display.

  • SMART FORMS: How are they used and how can they be configured/enhanced?

    Hi Experts,
    I would like to know how are the smart forms used in crm.I know that by using t-code SMARTFORMS we can view/edit standard smart forms . But I am confused about the fact that how are they used.If some one can list me the steps to be followed in simple language that would be of great help.
    Any pointers would also be appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hi Aneesh,
      In CRm we use smartforms to send mail to Business partners based on the client requirement. This sending process will be defined using Actions. Through actions we will trigger the smartform and send to the concerned busines partner mail id.
    Hope this helps you.

    Hi,
    Table pools are special table types in the ABAP Dictionary. The data from several different tables can be stored together in a table pool or table cluster. Tables assigned to a table pool or table cluster are referred to as pooled tables or cluster tables.
    This table are similar to the CLUSTER table types but these work on "LINEAR SEARCH" while CLUSTER TABLE uses "BINARY SEARCH to retrieve the data from the various tables and thsi is mainly used in the logical databases "LDB's" used in HR or ABAP-HR.
    A table in the database in which all records from the pooled tables assigned to the table pool are stored corresponds to a table pool.
    The definition of a pool consists essentially of two key fields (Tabname and Varkey) and a long argument field (Vardata).
    Table Clusters Several logical data records from different cluster tables can be stored together in one physical
    record in a table cluster.
    A cluster key consists of a series of freely definable key fields and a field (Pageno) for distinguishing continuation records. A cluster also contains a long field (Vardata) that contains the contents of the data fields of the cluster tables for this key. If the data does not fit into the long field, continuation records are created. Control information on the structure of the data string is still written at the beginning of the Vardata field.

    Samad.

  • What are Wrapper classes and what are they used for ?

    What are Wrappter classes and what are they used for ?..Also, any examples would be great to understand this concept

    Wrapper classes are used to enclose primitive data
    types so that they can be used in instances where an
    object is required. For example, if you want to add an
    integer to an ArrayList, you can't use this:java.util.List al = new ArrayList();
    int i=123;
    al.add(i);because the ArrayList expects data of type object. In
    order to all the integer to the ArrayList, you must wrap
    it in the Integer wrapper class. This works:java.util.List al = new ArrayList();
    int i=123;
    al.add(new Integer(i));Hope that helps.

  • SCCM 2012 and .PCK files - how exactly are they used?

    Ok, no one, not even Microsoft engineers can seem to provide a clear and definitive answer on this topic, everyone's understanding of the .PCK file with relation to SCCM 2012 is clear as mud.
    I understand what .PCK files are...in the SCCM 2007 world, and how they work, all that jazz, what I don't understand is how/when/why they would be used by SCCM 2012...it seems that sccm 2012 would only need these .pck files during a reassignment of a shared
    DP in a migration scenario...even that surmise is sketchy since I've watched very closely the DP content conversion process and at
    no time did the server access the .PCK files to populate the single instance store.
    I am going to do some more testing on my own, my ultimate goal is to permanent delete the contents (not the folder itself) of the SMSPKG folder, essentially all the .PCK and .DL$ files to save space on my server.
    If any soul out there knows..not guesses...the purpose of the .PCK file in 2012, let me know please, don't just copy/paste other people's posts as an answer, explain in clear terms each step of the process that 2012 would utilize a .PCK, or if the answer
    really is that 2012 does not use .PCK files at all, let me know.
    I have a single primary site with 16 secondary sites in my SCCM 2007 environment, I'm migrating to a single primary with 16 distribution points...so even if .PCK's are used to populate secondary sites, I should not need them since I won't have any secondary
    sites once all of my DP's are migrated...yeah?
    Thanks!
    Terry

    Thanks for the reply Torsten, that would make sense if my primary site had any .pck files at all (my sccm 2012 site that is) only my DP's have .pck files. I have no child sites in my 2012 hierarchy unless DP's are child sites (I thought secondary sites are
    child..) When my DP's require a package they get them from my primary site, not other DP's. I have no 'Pull' DP's setup.
    If SCCM 2012 uses a 'single instance store', which contains 3 folders itself that seem to contain compressed versions of the package files, then there should be no need for another folder that also contains compressed files...just a thought.

  • What are these and what are they useful for?: and

    I have seen these symbols being used in Java: << and >>, what are they and what do they do?
    Thank you.

    As DrQuincy asks how is this of use over multiplying
    and dividing?In your processor there are often different instructions for shifting, multiplying, and deleteing. Typically the shifting instructions take less time to execute and so using the shifting operator will be faster than multiplying. This assumes the compiler doesn't recognize the situation and optimize it out though.
    The >>,<<,>>>, &,|,and ^ operators are mainly useful when you need to deal with individual bits of data. For instance if you are talking to another system (thats not java) that uses a different method of storing numbers (little endian/big endian etc.), or doing something such as creating parity data for error correction. There are lots of things to do, but most a low level and its rare when you need to use them.

  • Tips for Using Containment Relationships (When Are They Required?)

    Hello again,
    Our team was recently discussing when to use containment relationships, and we realized that there is room for improvement in our understanding. Having read many of the help topics, the primary use for containment relationships seems to be the ability to determine whether or not an entity is complete. However, as far as we can tell, in our work we have not yet encountered a need for the entity-completeness concept (if we have, it was unbeknownst). Instead, using a containment structure within a data model often seems to complicate matters by distancing entities from the Global (thus making it seem more challenging to reason across instances).
    My best guess, aside from completeness, is that containment relationships are required when mapping from a database structure (e.g. Siebel). For example, a model such as:
    Global
    - the invoice
    - - the invoice line item
    ...might interface more correctly with external data structures compared to a "flatter" structure such as:
    Global
    - the invoice
    - the invoice line item
    ...where a "regular" (non-inferred, non-containment) relationship would be needed to connect invoices to their line items. In the latter scenario, perhaps the relationship would be more difficult to define when the data were mapped over?
    I have a feeling we might be missing something obvious, but I'm curious to know what this community thinks about this question. Can anyone help, perhaps by providing a list of advantages / disadvantages to containment, or maybe the situations in which containment is always required?
    Thanks!
    - Patrick

    I've built numerous demo rulebases for integration, usually with Siebel so I'll use that as my example. What I have learnt through doing this is that integration will be easier if the logical structure of the OPA entities/containment relationships matches the logical structure of the Siebel business components.
    For example, if in Siebel you have something representing Global (which I'll call a Case for this example), and you also have several business components logically below Case, e.g.
    A Case can have multiple Contacts
    Each Contact can have multiple Incomes
    Each Contact can have multiple Resources
    Each Contact can have multiple Expenses
    I would set up the following entities/containment relationships in OPA:
    Global --> one-to-many --> the household member
    the household member --> one-to-many --> the household member's income
    the household member --> one-to-many --> the household member's resource
    the household member --> one-to-many --> the household member's expense
    Note that Contact (Siebel) = the household member (OPA). I could use "the contact" in OPA, but I prefer to use a more business-user friendly name such as "the household member" -- if they are indeed household members, it could also be the person, the taxpayer, etc. or whatever is appropriate for the source material.
    I assume this general principle still applies if the integration is with something other than Siebel.
    Cheers,
    Jasmine

  • BAdI........How are they used in the real time scenario.

    Im a rookie in ABAP development and i was wondering that how we use the BAdI enhancement technique in the real time scenarios. Like do we get create them or we have few already built BAdI's which we work on? Can any body please explain how this works.

    Hi Ramana,
    Business add-ins are enhancements to the standard version of the system.
    Business Add-In is a new SAP enhancement technique based on ABAP Objects.
    They can be inserted into the SAP system based on specific user requirements.
    Each Business Add-In has:
    • at least one Business Add-In definition
    • a Business Add-In interface
    • a Business Add-In class that implements the interface
    In order to enhance a program, a Business Add-In must first be defined
    Subsequently two classes are automatically generated:
    • An interface with ‘IF_EX_’ inserted between the first and second characters of the BADI name.
    • An adapter class with ‘CL_EX_’ inserted between the first and second characters of the BADI name.
    The Application developer creates an interface for this Add-In.
    There are multiple ways of searching for BADI.
    • Finding BADI Using CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE
    • Finding BADI Using SQL Trace (TCODE-ST05).
    • Finding BADI Using Repository Information System (TCODE- SE84).
    1. Go to the Transaction, for which we want to find the BADI, take the example of Transaction VD02. Click on System->Status. Double click on the program name. Once inside the program search for ‘CL_EXITHANDLER=>GET_INSTANCE’.
    Make sure the radio button “In main program” is checked. A list of all the programs with call to the BADI’s will be listed.
    The export parameter ‘EXIT_NAME’ for the method GET_INSTANCE of class CL_EXITHANDLER will have the user exit assigned to it. The changing parameter ‘INSTANCE’ will have the interface assigned to it. Double click on the method to enter the source code.Definition of Instance would give you the Interface name.
    2. Start transaction ST05 (Performance Analysis).
    Set flag field "Buffer trace"
    Remark: We need to trace also the buffer calls, because BADI database tables are buffered. (Especially view V_EXT_IMP and V_EXT_ACT)
    Push the button "Activate Trace". Start transaction VA02 in a new GUI session. Go back to the Performance trace session.
    Push the button "Deactivate Trace".
    Push the button "Display Trace".
    The popup screen "Set Restrictions for Displaying Trace" appears.
    Now, filter the trace on Objects:
    • V_EXT_IMP
    • V_EXT_ACT
    Push button "Multiple selections" button behind field Objects
    Fill: V_EXT_IMP and V_EXT_ACT
    All the interface class names of view V_EXT_IMP start with IF_EX_. This is the standard SAP prefix for BADI class interfaces. The BADI name is after the IF_EX_.
    So the BADI name of IF_EX_CUSTOMER_ADD_DATA is CUSTOMER_ADD_DATA
    3. Go to “Maintain Transaction” (TCODE- SE93).
    Enter the Transaction VD02 for which you want to find BADI.
    Click on the Display push buttons.
    Get the Package Name. (Package VS in this case)
    Go to TCode: SE84->Enhancements->Business Add-inns->Definition
    Enter the Package Name and Execute.
    Here you get a list of all the Enhancement BADI’s for the given package MB.
