Gprs used instead of Wlan connection

Hi,
when I start nokia maps on my N95 8GB, it uses the gprs connection instead of the wlan connection.
The wlan works fine, because if I remove my sim then it works ok (via wlan).
When I put back my sim card and start nokia maps again then the data is downloaded through gprs.
Is there a way in nokia maps, or anywhere else in the phone, where I can be warned if a gprs connection is opened?

Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
As per your comment, I can say that if you want to deploy RDS server 2012 HA then you need to deploy DNS RR for your environment. It depends on the company requirement whether which one you need to use. It’s not compulsory that you need to use DNS RR, but if
you will access with DNS RR you don’t need to setup any Hardware LB. You can also use Hardware LB to load balance different RDSH server.

Hey, maybe anybody can help. I'm in a hotel right now and my laptop does not provide WLAN. I'm able to setup a connection with my e90 and it works well in the internet. I installed a bluetooth connection to the laptop. What do I need to do to use the WLAN connection of the e90 via bluetooth with the laptop? I tried it with PCSUITE but it always try to start a dial up connection via GPRS.
    Thx Torsten

Try if setting it to factory will bring it back to the state where it could connect & surf the net after reconfiguring again your access point.

  • Setup Email Using WLAN Connection - E72

    Hi.
Did anyone manage to setup a Gmail or Windows Live Email using WLAN connection?
1 - My internet connection has only the WLan connection. I removed my carrier internet connection.
2 - Using the E-mail option at the menu, I type my gmail user, my password, and then nothing happens.
3 - I tried doing this procedure without the SIM, using Offline mode. And again, nothing happens...
Does Nokia want me to use my Carrier Connection just setup an email account using their interface and software?

Yes for initial setup must use GPRS/3G from your provider. After the inital setup, it may or may not work with WiFi depending on your location.

Thanks for the quick response. What you have said makes sense but there is no rhyme or reason to he data used. I reset my cellular data counter to zero so both sent and received read zero. I was connected to wifi and let the phone to go into sleep mode. I waited about ten minutes and sent myself the same email four times, each with a 750 kb attachment. It was sent to my .me address so it was push mail on my phone. Sure enough I checked a minute later while bringing the phone out of sleep mode and checked the data. It showed just 10kb sent but 1mb received which just doesn't tally with the 4 x 750kb mails received. It just isn't making sense.

I thought I had read where the iOS4 (or maybe just the iPhone 4) was supposed to be able to keep wifi connections alive while inactive. If the phone is sitting there on a charger with a wifi connection available, why use the 3G?

although the phone can be used as a modem it can't be used as WLAN switch or adapter, so it's not possible to do so, im afraid.
you need to get Wireless lan adapter for you laptop.

I'd like to set it so my phone ALWAYS uses WLAN if available and only ever uses WAP when there is no WLAN connection.
It's a new phone (to me, anyway) and I'm still getting use to the settings.
    It's an Eseries E71.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Go to Web > Options > Settings > General > Access point - does it currently say "User defined" or "Ask on connection"? If says the former change to "Ask on connection" and then back to "User defined" to give you opportunity to choose WLAN access point.
Another way is to install SmartConnect by Birdstep form Nokia Store: http://store.ovi.com/content/10328

  • Airdrop using wireless network instead of direct connection

    Hello,
Last night my fiancee and I were moving her backed up music folder from my computer onto her new macbook air '11. My computer is an '11 13" pro. When we were both connected to her wireless network and initiated the airdrop file transfer, it was using the wifi network to send the data which caused the older wrt54g router to max out on bandwidth so the transfer was going really slow (1 MB/s).
Then when I realized the transfer (27 GB) was going to take longer than I was going to be there, I decided to try and get the airdrop to work directly. I eventually had to delete her network from my list of favorites in network settings, turn off wi-fi, and turn it back on. Then once my pro was NOT connected to any networks, I initiated the transfer to her computer, and it was going closer to 10 MB/s. Thus, it was using the true direct connection airdrop is SUPPOSED to use.
Now, nowhere does any of the Apple documentation say "...and then you must disconnect from the wireless network common to the computers..." so I am left wondering if this is some bug or why I had to jump through these hoops in order to get the full transfer potential.
Has anyone else experienced this? And/or does this method work for anyone else?
    Thanks,
    William

There are only a few devices that have multiple uses. I use a DLink DWL G703AP on my daughter's iMac for wireless connectivity. If you look it up on the DLink site you can see its capabilities. I am sure there are other devices with similar capabilities.

On my TX, it seems that the device will "remember" the last network connection and try to use it if you open up Blazer.  For example, if I used a Bluetooth connection the last time I used it, but then want to access my wireless network at home, I have to manually connect to the network first by opening Wi-Fi and connecting to my router.  Perhaps that's what is happening to you.  Try making your connection first, then go to Blazer.

  • 5800 3G or WLAN connections stays connected

Even I close the application that requires internet connection (internet browser, maps etc.) the connection I've been using (3G or WLAN) stays open on my 5800 and therefore battery goes empty rapidly. I've checked and looked everywhere for an option to make the connection close automaticaly after I close the application but could not find so far.
Any idea or solution would be much appreciated.
    Firmware 51.0.006

&it's ridiculous to explain all the setting here, almost each app has its own setting, aspecially app which needs internet connection. i don't know what app do you have& how many.
try to find each of those....
then yeah just change the setting with ask when needed, manual, etc instead of automatic or anything that make your device connect automatically, i think you've known that and already done that, haven't you?
but you still can't find where it is....
may be you can ask friend who can directly touch your tube and find it.

  • N8 3G and WLAN connections

Is it possible to turn off the 3G and WLAN connections so that the they are active ONLY when I need them?
Currently I have 3G connection active all the time even I do not do anything with the Internet or applications which are using 3G (main display is showing the "connected" character below the 3G letters).
Also I would like to turn off the "search WLAN" feature until I am going to use that connction. I do not want to turn it OFF completely just want to put it away until I really need WLAN. I do not want it to search the WLAN networks until I need the WLAN.
I would like to turn these connection off to save the battery.

As it was stated in several review articles, the connectivity concept on the N8 (formerly Symbian ^3) is still somewhat in an experimental state.
The introduced "Destinations" yet most of the programs are not aware of this functionality. My tipical scenario would be that I have:
    - destination with all my WLANs and 3G for fallback
    - destination with WLANs only
    - destination with 3G only
this would allow me to direct my data flow exactly where I want it.
    Instead what I get:
    - AGPS goes out on a random (!) data connection
    - S60v5 apps try to go the old way of "Define access point", being unaware of "Destinations"
    - Gravity is even more confusing as it has its own WLAN option and absolutely disregards the phone options. It goes out on 3G even if there's WLAN available .
So the basic answer to your question:
at his moment can only check under connectivity what app is using your 3G data and check the setting within this app. You cannot generally disable 3G connection as far as I know

  • Thinkpad X220: bad wlan connection when docked and lid closed

    Dear forum
I use a Lenovo ThinkPad X220. I have no trouble with the wlan connection when i use the notebook alone. The wlan connection is also stable when i use the notebook plugged in the dockingstation with the lid open. But when I use the notebook plugged in the dockingstation with the lid closed my wlan connection drops regularely to about 2 Mbps and gets very unstable.
The ThinkPad uses the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wlan network controller:
    $ lspci | grep 6205
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] (rev 34)
The network controller uses the iwlwifi driver, that comes with the current linux-firmware package:
    $ pacman -Ss linux-firmware
    core/linux-firmware 20150206.17657c3-1 [Installiert]
    Firmware files for Linux
I didn't change any options of the kernel module, everything runs in default mode:
    $ modinfo -p iwlwifi
swcrypto:using crypto in software (default 0 [hardware]) (int)
11n_disable:disable 11n functionality, bitmap: 1: full, 2: disable agg TX, 4: disable agg RX, 8 enable agg TX (uint)
    amsdu_size_8K:enable 8K amsdu size (default 0) (int)
fw_restart:restart firmware in case of error (default true) (bool)
antenna_coupling:specify antenna coupling in dB (default: 0 dB) (int)
wd_disable:Disable stuck queue watchdog timer 0=system default, 1=disable (default: 1) (int)
    nvm_file:NVM file name (charp)
    uapsd_disable:disable U-APSD functionality (default: Y) (bool)
    bt_coex_active:enable wifi/bt co-exist (default: enable) (bool)
    led_mode:0=system default, 1=On(RF On)/Off(RF Off), 2=blinking, 3=Off (default: 0) (int)
power_save:enable WiFi power management (default: disable) (bool)
    power_level:default power save level (range from 1 - 5, default: 1) (int)
fw_monitor:firmware monitor - to debug FW (default: false - needs lots of memory) (bool)
At first I thought, the problem could be caused by the KDE power saving settings. I changed the settings, so nothing happens when I close the lid (no hibbernation or screen lock or something like that), but without success (the wlan connection is still unstable under the described circumstances).
Also dmesg shows nothing that points out a problem (as far as I can see):
    $ dmesg | grep iwlwifi

So I have no idea where this strange behaviour comes from (only wild guesses: buildfactor, antenna orientation,...).
Any help would be really appreciated.

how about checking both your wired and wireless nic drivers in device manager to make sure that the "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox on the power management tab is deselected.

  • Overriding function keys when using MS Remote Desktop Connection

Is there a way when connected to a RDP client using MS Remote Desktop Connection to prevent the function keys from being intercepted and handled by OSX. For example on my iMac keyboard, function keys 7 to 12 are used to control itunes and alter the system sound volumes. Is there a way to have these keys processed by the RDP client instead, so that the remote Windows OS can handle them?
While this question currently relates to an iMac, I'll soon be using a Macbook Pro in the same scenario, and will be requiring a similar solution for that machine.

Thanks for your suggestion. Setting that option only toggles what the function keys are interpreted as in OSX, but the key presses are still not processed by the OS in the RDP session. For example, pressing F9 when the RDP window is active shows all open OSX windows in Expose, rather than having the keypress processed by the active software in the RDP session
I did try posting to the forum you mentioned yesterday, but due to server issues my post failed. I'll try again today.
