Gps application

Hello,
i have an old blackberry pearl 8100, working in GPRS, and i would like to know if i can have a gps application on it, and if it is yes, where i can get it, and how much it would cost me.
thank you very much

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
As far as I can tell, that model does not include a physical GPS radio; no amount of software can overcome a hardware limitation of that nature.
Good luck!

  • New to java.. What I need to develop GPS application for Blackberry

    I was wondering what everything I needed to get started developing GPS applications for blackberrys.
    It interest me a lot.. and I know C# and some VB. I am wanting to learn so getting a book would be good but just wondering what developer tools I needed to develop this kind of application. I currently have Visual Studio 2008 and I have seen a plug in for it.

If .NET, then have fun with Visual Studio and find yourself a .NET forum because this isn't it. If you're going to want to do this with Java, then go to the Sun tutorial site, find the getting started section, and start following those directions. Don't worry about the GPS and blackberry stuff for a good 3-12 months, depending on your current knowledge and abilities.

  • GPS APPLICATION FOR N80ie

    Hello Friends,
    Just need to know if exist a GPS application for Nokia N80ie. Please let me know, where I can find one.
    Thanks,

    You can use Nokia Maps (download the version for the N73 http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291 and Nokia Map Loader from the same page) Just remember to start Nokia Maps on the phone after install before you use Map Loader. It needs to create some folder.
    This will give you access to maps but to get GPS you will need to purchase a GPS receiver such as Nokia LD3W (connects via Bluetooth).
    If you want voice navigation you have to pay for that but you can also try it for free for 3 days. You can access this from the options menu in Nokia Maps.

  • GPS application with static jpg map

    Hi all,
    I am writing an gps application with a static map image (jpg) of a smal area. I would like to use this image to display users position within the area when he is in this area and let users zoom in-out.  I also need to specify specific positions within the area of coverage. How can I specify it.
     Is there a standard way (preferably with example) of specifying the coordinates that the image covers and positions and how to handle it?
    is there a better or other standard way of displaying map in the application?
    will appreciate.
    regards,
    rnv

    The only thing you really need is a translation function to convert geographical coordinates and pixel coordinated. Assuming your map is covering a smll area you should be able to treat the earth as though it's flat to keep the equations simple.  I will also assume the edges of your map are parallete to the lines of latitude and longitude. You will need to find the latitudes and longitudes that the 4 corners of the map respresent.
    Let's assume you've got your image and you've found the four coordinates to which your cordners map. I'll name these coordinates A, B, D, and D.
    A          B
      +------+
      |      |
      |      |
      +------+
    C         D
    Under this system for small maps you can use linear interpolation to map real coordinates to pixel coordinates on your map.  Let's say the coordinates of the 4 points are as follows (I don't know what actually falls in these coordinates in real life, they have been chosen arbitrarily).
    A = (30N, 110W)
    B = (30N, 120W)
    C = (20N, 110W)
    D = (20N, 120W)
    Let's also say your image is 1000 pixels wide by 500 pixels high. If your user's real coordinates were (24N, 117W) then the pixel coordinates on the map could be found as follows.
    X = ((1000)/(110-120)) * (110-117) = 700
    Y = ((500) / (20N-30N)) * (20N-24N) = 200
    So the point on the above map that is representational of the user's position would be (700, 200).  Since you would allow the user to zoom (and presumably pan) you would also have adjust these pixel coordinates so that they go through the same transformation that the map does.

  • Navigon Mobile Navigator GPS Application

    Hey guys,
    Navigon released their Mobile Navigator software for Europe (they beat TomTom!):
    http://www.navigon.com/site/int/en/products/navigation_software/iphone
    I know this is mainly used for the car -- but I'm wondering if it also works if you are just walking on the street with the iPhone? I'd love to use this for international trips to Europe where we are just walking within the city as opposed to being in a car (I wonder if there is a "by walking" vs. "by car" mode like the built-in Maps application has!)

    No. "When airplane mode is on, no phone, radio, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth signals are emitted from iPhone and GPS reception is turned off, disabling many of iPhone’s features."

  • Availability of real GPS applications for 3G?

    Firstly, I'm not talking about turn-by-turn navigational software. I have no use for that.
    What I mean by "real" GPS software is software that enables me to get Lat/Longs (or coordinates in other coordinate systems), WAAS availability, parallel channels, and preferably that is fully WGS-84 compliant (or EGM96, better yet), and can handle different datums.
    Do I have a snowball's chance in heck, or do I just go back to my Blackberry and go give my money to Garmin? Thanks in advance.

    I no of no program that does WGS-84, or any standard for that matter, but I see no reason why a iPhone couldn't do that. Wait a month or two in till more programs come out for the iPhone.

  • IOS 4 upgrade has broken all 3rd party GPS applications

    since upgrading all my apps that used to use GPS perfectly fine now can not find a GPS signal, they can only get a fix based on cell towers.
    This existed in ios 4.01 and now in the latest ios which i just upgraded too.
    this is a common problem that needs to be fixed. i've tried everything! kind of ***** as i use it a lot

    What did you upgrade from? I think if you remove CrashPlan and MacKeeper, you should be fine.

  • Can I use gps applications like tomtom at the ipad mini with mobile data transfer turned off?

    Need help about ipad mini.
    The information on the apple web page refers that only the 3G versions have gps capabilities.
    Wath is not clear to me is if the gps works only when coneted with 3G data transfer, or it works without it, if I download some software like tomtom or navigon.
    Best regards
    Pedro

    You can use it without being connected to 3G. Only the 3G/4G iPads have a built-in GPS chip, the wifi-only models don't, and you can use apps such as TomTom with it which contain the maps, you don't need to be connected to 3G (or even have activated 3G on the iPad) or wifi to then use it.

  • Alpine iDA-X305 with 3GS running GPS application

    Hello All,
    I installed Sygic GPS app on my 3GS which I connect to the Alpine head unit, via the 30 pin connector, for playing iPod files and noticed that when I start the GPS app the Alpine unit pauses the iPod playback. I can restart the playback with the fast forward switch but the text to voice directions of the GPS app are muted.
    I believe that the Alpine unit is the culprit here because the Sygic GPS works perfect when the 3GS is playing iPod files files but not plugged in to the Alpine unit and it also works perfectly, with text to voice, when plugged in to a Logictech boom box (also via the 30 pin connector.
    The Sygic mobile maps is a great app and I can't be the first to notice this. Anyone figured out the work around yet?
    Thanks,

    Try calling or e-mailing Apline and Clarion.
    They should be able to tell you.

  • GPS Application exits during driving.

    If I have an app like gps, how do I keep it from exiting while driving?

    If you purchased an app that utilizes/requires GPS that crashes during use, you should be able to contact the app developer. A support link or a link to the developer's web site for the app should be provided with the app details and info via the iTunes app store.

  • Best car gps application?

    There's so many to choose from, and I'm in the market. So which ones do you all recommend?

    I have Navigon and liked it. Until they broke "Avoid Toll Roads". 3 revisions ago. And have not fixed it. A core function of the app has not worked for close to a year, and there only response (Only through Facebook, no less, because there customer support is non existent)is wait for the next update. Heard that 3 times now. Still waiting for it to become iOS4 compliant.

  • GPS Error on F3507g & Windows 7 "The GPS NMEA COM Port is not available" x200

    I have an X200 with a WWAN Card 43R153 (Ericsson F3507g) running Window 7.
    The WWAN reliably connects to Vodafone but I can't get the GPS to work.
    Device manager shows this port Enabled:-
    Ericsson E3507G Mobile Broadband MiniCard GPS Port (Com8)
    Driver Invogps.sys from Ericsson AB, Version 1.0.0.28  29/09/2008.
    Thinkvantage GPS version 2.50 is also installed and Lenovo System Update says everything is up to date.
    When I "Turn on GPS" or run 'Lenovs GPS"  I get this message:-
    The GPS NMEA COM port is not available. You need to check the following things.
    - Another GPS application is using the COM port.
    - COM ports is disabled. You can enable the COM port in the Device Manager.
    Location and Other Sensors shows nothing installed.
    I've tried deleting all the drivers and reinstalling but not luck.
    Has anyone else had the same problem and found a solution. I can't think of anything else to try.
    ThinkPad X200 7459-1P0

    If you are running a Windows 7 Weather Gadget on your desktop, try shutting it down entirely and see if that changes your GPS "in use" problem.
    Cheers,
    Bill

  • IPhone 3GS GPS no longer working-What should I do?

    I have a very annoying problem with my iPhone 3GS.
    I have invested a considerable amount of money on Navigation applications and applications that use GPS.
    GPS reception started to get unreliable and it was deteriorating over time.
    At the beginning my navigation application (Navigon) was losing the GPS signal at random times.
    Usually, after every iOS update the GPS reception was fine for a week or so, then problems started again.
    Now, GPS is almost not working at all.
    All the gps applications on my iPhone can detect where I am, however the precision is in unusable levels. It may show a position 300-400 meters away from where I really am. This happens in Navigon, Maps, etc.
    Navigon always shows the red bar on the top telling me that the GPS reception is not adequate.
    What should I do? Is there any case that this is a software related issue? Is there any way I can fix this? Some users suggested that I set up as New, but this will be my last resort as I have a lot of data that I want to retain on my iPhone.
    Or is this really a hardware issue?
    Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    Thank you

    If you've restored the phone and then reinstalled the SW, it may be a HW problem. There's a way to test to see if the GPS is working in 'standalone mode". It's valid for the 3G, I think it works for the 3GS as well.
    On the 3G, the GPS receiver is tied to the cellular transceivers. If it's in Airplane mode the GPS doesn't work. Taking the phone out of Airplane mode, but removing the SIM card (and therefore no cellular connection) it works just fine (OK, it's a bit slower, but it still works).
    As a final test, take the phone out of Airplane mode, remove the SIM card and run any GPS aware programme (Maps is good, it's an Apple App, so that removes the 'I wonder if the app is at fault' question). Place the phone in a location where it has a good view of an unobstructed sky, and wait. After 10 or 15 minutes press the "find me" button on the bottom left of the screen. If the "blinking"  little blue dot doesn't appear, or if it says that your location can't be determined (there won't be a map), it sounds like the GPS is dead.
    BTW, Apple doesn't reply to posts on the forum.
    Good luck,
    coop

  • 5230 GPS fix problem (have gps signal but no gps f...

    hi
    i have a nokia 5230
    software version V20.0.005 / 23-03-2010
    custom version 20.0.005.315.02 / 29-04-2010
    type RM-588
    not updated
    CODE 0597862 - Latest available software for your device Version 20.0.005
    GPS positioning methods:
    A-GPS = OFF (I dont have/dont want data traffic charge)
    IntGPS = ON
    BlueGPS = OFF
    Network Based = ON
    Positioning server use = disable
    Software used:
    Default nokia gps applications - GPS positioning (not the ovi map)
    Nokia sports tracker v3.50(0) (S60 3.1) 2-08-2010 (mostly for GPS logging)
    Garmin XT
    The problem - GPS fix is taking (sometimes) very long periods from 1 - 5 hours or in same cases it does not make a GPS fix. Other times (about 25% of tries) it calculates GPS fix in a few minutes (1-15min).
    I use the GPS only outdoors within open sky and hill/forest (not in urban, tall buildings). Usualy is clear sky or clouds, but not storms.
    The Satellite info page displays me the satelite signals, and usually I have about 6-11 satelites bars and from them about 4-7 with more then 75% signal.It is very frustrating to have gps satelite signal and not have a gps fix. This is obvios a software related problem not a weak gps signal.
    DOES anybody had this issue and know how to solve it? I suspect a firmware bug... but I dont really know.
    Thank you.
