GPS apps on Verizon iPhone 4

I'm thinking of ditching my Droid for a Verizon iPhone. The only thing holding me back is the lack of a voice activated/voice directions GPS. Does anyone have any experience with any of the gps apps that are available for the iPhone 4?

There are many, many iPhone Nav app reviews on the internet.  You'll find more thorough info much faster there.
Personally, for car navigation, I much prefer a dedicated nav device, i.e. Garmin Nuvi.  The UI is not quite as good but they do one thing and do it very, very well.  It just seems to be more of a hassle on the iPhone when I (or someone else) may want to use it for something else other than navigation, i.e. finding a restaurant, phone calls, texting, news, email, books, etc.

What is the best GPS app for an iPhone 4s?

There are several things to consider.  For instance many GPS apps download maps on the fly.  If you don't have an unlimited cellular data plan this can use a lot of your data allotment.  Other apps like Tom Tom and CoPilot Live save all the maps on the device.  The maps will take up a lot of memory on your iPhone.  I use CoPilot Live Premium and the maps take up about 2GB of memory.
Then there is a matter of cost.  Most apps that download maps on the fly are free or a very low cost.  The ones that store the maps on the iPhone generally cost more.
I use Copilot Live Premium HD US because it gives me all the features I need for a relatively low cost, about $20 USD.

  • Is there a GPS app for the iPhone that doesn't use air or data time?

Is there a GPS app for the iPhone that doesn't use air or data time?

There are lots of GPS Apps in the App Store.  How do I know they don't use dada and/or air charges?

  • No charge while using GPS app...

I'm using the MotionX-GPS app on a iPhone 3G. On a 3 hour road trip recently, I connected the phone to the car charger cable and proceeded on my trip. I noticed that even though the phone was on the charge cord, the battery was still depleting at a good pace. It finally used up the phone battery about 1 hour into the trip, and I had to turn off the GPS function. To keep the phone display from turning off, I disabled the autolock function to force the screen display to be on all the time. Why wouldn't the phone maintain a battery charge while on the auto charge cord? Was the power drain more than the charger could keep up with? This problem keeps me from using my iPhone as a GPS nav device. On the trip back, I only used the GPS app as needed, and turned it off to let the phone charge back up.

Most likely the car adapter cannot supply enough power. There are two types of USB chargers, 1/2 amp and 1 amp. Computers generally supply only 1/2 amp, so this would be the likely problem if you connect to a computer USB port. If you are using a charger made for cars check its specs and make sure it can supply 1 amp at 5 volts.
    Added:
Another possibility is that the charger is defective. Do you see a "charging" indication on the phone (lightning bolt on the battery icon)?

  • I have a Verizon IPhone 4 and i can't figure out how to get my ringtones from an app to my iTunes account, it doesn't have a tab for Ringtones! I have tried unplugging it and checking if would show up but it didn't, how do you enable the ringtone folder?

I have a verizon IPhone and i can't figure out how to get my ringtones from the app to iTunes, my account doesn't have a ringtone section in the liRingtone Folder?brary, how do you enable the ringtone folder?

Edit > Preferences.  Select the check box for Ringtones, this will add them to the listing in iTunes.
Not sure that really answers your question though.

  • App Won't Open on Verizon iPhone

    Hello All,
A few days ago I purchased an app called "Skeptic's Dictionary" for $0.99.  After it installed, I went to open it and it immediately closed.  After 2 days worth of troubleshooting to fix it, as well as emailing the app's developer, I came to the conclusion that it's not compatible with Verizon's iOS, which is 4.2.8.  The app's developer, in no uncertain terms, basically said it's designed to run on iOS 4.3, which is the latest version of iOS and what AT&T's iPhones have, but not Verizon's.  This app was released at the very end of March, so it wasn't around prior or 4.3.  Do a Google search, you'll see that Verizon's iPhone's iOS is behind.
Anyways, from what I've read online, Apple sent letters to app developers explaining this and asked them to update their apps to run on both iOS 4.2 and 4.2.8.  Obviously this one did not and now I'm out $0.99.  Not a whole lot, but it's still money.  If I had known about this issue before purchasing this app, I never would've purchased it and instead could've used that $0.99 on an app that I could use.  I know iTunes doesn't give refunds, I don't care.  If it had been a $5+ app, then I'd be pretty mad, but whatever.  I'm now hesitant on purchasing anymore apps because of this; I don't want to waste money on an app that I have no clue if it'll work or not since I don't have the most recent iOS on my phone.
    Anyways, my questions:
    1) Does this developer have to update his app to work on iOS 4.2.8?  Given Apple's strict App & App Store policy, I'm surprised this app managed to slip by them since it doesn't work on Verizon's iPhones, which make up a LOT of the iPhone user base.  Should I send iTunes an email letting them know about this app's issue?  If I do, will they do anything about it?
    2) Is Verizon going to get iOS 4.3 at all?  It came out in March and it's now July.
    3) Has anyone else with a Verizon iPhone had the misfortune of downloading an app that doesn't work because it's not compatible with anything below iOS 4.3?

Sorry, above, it should be "Apple sent letters to app developers explaining this and asked them to update their apps to run on both iOS 4.3 and 4.2.8"
For some reason the "edit" button is not on my OP.

  • Looking for an iPhone GPS app comparable to Android

I am getting ready to switch from my DroidX to the iPhone 4s.   The only thing that is holding me up is the GPS.  The one I have on my DroidX works great.  I can speak into the phone and say something like "Target", and it displays the nearest Target stores.  I select one, and it then gives me voice-enabled turn-by-turn directions.  If I go the wrong way, it recalculates and gives me new directions.    The maps are always up to date.  When we crossed from NY into Canada, the GPS adapted accordingly, and didn't miss a beat.
The native iPhone GPS app doesn't seem to be as good.  I'm spoiled.  Is there a comparable GPS app that will run on the iPhone?
    Thanks!

I'd recommend Navigon. There are different bundles (U.S. East Region, North America, etc...). . Yes, you do have to pay and it is a large file (1.7GB currently). However, updates are free. From my understanding, the Navigon app map data is stored on your phone and will work without a GPS signal. (I haven't had to use it in such a manner.) Google Maps Navigation for Android is great but a data connection is always required. And, in my experience, Navigon directions have been more accurate than Google Maps. The MapQuest app is free but ad content is visible.

  • Store button in Music app doesn't work on Verizon iPhone 4 w/iOS 5?

On my Verizon iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1, in the Music app, tapping the Store button does nothing. Also, there are several screens with links to the iTunes store. If I tap one of these links, I get this message (this time, from the Podcasts screen):
    Restricted URL
    This URL wasn't loaded:
    itms://?action+podcasts&libraryid=com.apple.mobileipod
What's up with this? Do I have to go through my iMac to purchase music to put on my iPhone? The Store button in the Music app on my iPad (also with iOS 5.0.1) works fine.

Found problem in Settings > Restrictions. I had enabled Restrictions but not the individual items such as Installing Apps, iTunes, etc. All is well.

  • " My Verizon" app on my iPhone 5 running IOS7 just stopped working

The " My Verizon" app on my iPhone 5 running IOS7 just stopped working (connecting). Apps says it can't establish a connection. I've tried WiFi and LTE connection and it won't work on either. I've rebooted iPhone and even re-installed My Verizon App. What gives???????

        Hi EPNApple,
Oh No! That indeed sounds alarming! We want all of your applications to be fully functional. Are other applications able to connect properly? Can you access web pages? Have you attempted to remove and reinsert SIM on the right side of the device? Please keep us posted, thanks!

  • My Verizon iPhone app error message....

Recently, when trying to access schedule or recorded programs on the My Verizon iPhone app, I get the following error:
    Mandatory Field Not Supplied.
Does anyone have an insight on what's causing this and/or what can be done to fix it?
    Thanks i advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

In reply to my own post in case it may help someone else with the same issue in the future:
It turned out that the probem was not being able to connect to our DVR STB via the Internet.  Thus the iOS app wouldn't work but neither could I connect to the DVR via a PC browser.   That, in turn, was caused by a glitch that had the Verizon system thinking in error we have a DLink router when an Actiontec model is required for that service.
The system glitch also had on screen caller ID failing to work.
The good news is after trying all the self-help steps available through the IMG I called tech support.  I got through to a live person in Dallas in a reasonable amount of time.  He stayed with me for quite sometime and he was eventually able to correct the system glitch so it knew we have an Actiontec router and the problem was solved.
Pretty good tech support in my humble opinion.

Hi my case numbers is 30758085. I just try download apps store on my Verizon iPhone 4 but they keep ask me billling payment so I use my credit card but keep said wrong security codes so I check my apple itune balances said I owe itune 22.00 dollars but it not my apps download on my phone I always get free apps Download

Please don't post case numbers or other personal information here. None of us here (who will respond, anyway) work for Apple; we're all just fellow users.
Anyway, as regards the security code issue, this may help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646
and as regards the balance, first make sure you didn't make any in-app purchases. Many "free" apps, particularly games, have additional levels or features that cost money. Check your purchase history in your iTunes Store account and see what you're being charged for.
    Regards.

  • If I suspect someone is using GPS app they downloaded on their phone to track my iphone, how can I confirm this?

I suspect someone downloaded a GPS app on their phone that allows them to track my iphone.  I understand that this app only works if I agreed to the notification.  If this person had control of my phone and agreed for me, is there any way I can detect if I am being "followed"?

You could turn off the Find My Phone function and change the password on your Apple ID. You coudl also look at the settings for access to location data and turn off anythign suspicious. If that fails, you could wipe the phone and return it to factory settings.
But the real question is why do you let "freinds" have control of your phone?

  • Will gps mapping and email on my verizon iPhone 5 work in France?

Will gps mapping and email on my verizon iPhone 5 work in France?

Since the sim slot in all Verizon iPhone 5's is officially unlocked out of the gate, you can save a ton of money by NOT calling Verizon support & NOT enabling data roaming, All you have to do is purchase a local sim when you get to France.
Do that & you can use all of the functions of your phone, cheaply.

  • TS1368 Verizon iPhone 4 won't update apps

For about two weeks now, my Verizon iPhone 4 (ios 5.1.1)  won't update apps from the update feature.  I can make purchases and otherwise access my account, but although the red icon appears to tell me that there are updates available, I receive the message "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" when I open the apps app.  I have no trouble updating the apps manually (by searching for the app and choosing "install" I am prompted to update.)  But I can't update automatically by using the updates icon on the App Store menu.
I have a 4th gen iPod and iPad 3 as well, and they have no trouble updating normally on the same network; nor does my computer.  I can't find any reference to anyone else having this problem; can anyone help?
FYI, I have already tried every solution I've seen posted on this site to no avail.  They only seem to address the issue of not being able to access the iTunes store at all; I ONLY have this issue with the update function -- purchases and manual updates work fine.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately, the app that is problematic is the App Store app, which is undeletable. Nothing else is giving me a problem.
I did eventually find a thread discussing this problem, and all the solutions are work-arounds, such as update from iTunes on my computer and then sync to my phone.  This does work, but it's a bit of a pain to have to do that in order to update.  I'd really like to just do it automatically from the device, the way it was intended to work.

  • Apps and Videos won't sync with new Verizon iPhone

I have set up the new Verizon iPhone and synced it with iTunes. The music comes over to the phone no problem, but when I try and sync the Apps that were either purchased or free for our iPad or iPods won't come over to the phone. The error message is that the account is not authorized to sync. So I go and authorize the account on the computer, and it says it is already authorized, yet the sync of apps and videos will not occur.
    Thoughts?

I don't think you can drag anything onto an iphone.
You have to goto the tab in itunes and select which video you want to sync.
