GPS doen't work (Nokia 5230)
I bought this phone mainly because it's big screen and GPS.
But it just doen't work. At all.
I left only GPS connection (A-GPS, Network etc. - are off).
In Satellites-Status is finds sometimes up to 5 satellites with gray bars. (as I understand it means weak signal) and then nothing happens.
Last night I went to railway station, which is high. The sky was absolutely clear with stars.
No high buildings around. I holded the phone in the center (not to cover the antenne).
And nothing happened. Only 4-5 gray bars maximum. Even after 10 minutes.
I'm thinking about sending it back.
Another problem - is one of the most stupidest programs I've ever seen - OVI-Suit.
Absolutely illogical, insanely slow and fulled with mistakes.
(The only program which is worse is Corel Draw Painter).
And please, tell me someone, why the Options for GPS are in the Menu-> Applications-> My Position-> Options,
but the Maps themselfs are in Menu-> Maps?
I've heard just yesterday, that Nokia looses its market share very fast.
And somehow I understand why.
Hi DexterStJock
If you are not going to utilize the Assisted GPS feature and rely solely on Integrated GPS you can expect initial positional fix to take a considerable time to acquire but subsequent lock-on will be much more rapid. If you haven't yet got a satellite lock-on don't expect a new location to be better as you could be anywhere in the world as far as it is concerned. Unfortunately GPS antenna size within a mobile device has to be compromised due to space limitations and unfair to compare with car sat nav unit.
You are correct that "Positioning methods" are found in Menu > Applications > Location but this is independent of OVI Maps as other applications can utilize it's features.

Hello guys, I've brought my Nokia 5230 recently and I've soon discovered a problem with the gps function. The problem is every time I tried to see where I'm or the gps function it takes ages and it still can't detect any gps signal, I've been to many places, home, library, in my car moving through town and really it don't pick up any signals. Does it matter if I don't use internet at all? And are there settings that I have to follow? Thanks in advance.
Hi rexlee123
Sounds as if you are not utilizing the Assisted GPS feature which requires a network access point. Whereas you can set OVI Maps to "Offline" if regional maps downloaded, if you just rely on Integrated GPS reception will be quite poor. You need to check in Menu > Applications > Location > Positioning > Positioning server > Access point and also in Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Destinations - that WAP access point has not ended up in "Uncategorized" folder where not utilized.

after updating it to belle GPS is not working in my device. nothing works right
maps, drive etc dont getting GPS signals.
all apps which needs GPS are not working please help meHi Symbianfear, Welcome to the Nokia Forums.
Firstly please be sure that you have activated A-GPS in your phone settings.
If you have already activated it can you please check that you have the GPS access point installed by going into your Settings, connectivity and then access points. If you have already got the access point profile, please delete it, restart your device and re-add the GPS access point.
If you are still experiencing issues with the GPS please perform a soft reset using the code *#7780# security code by default 12345 if prompted, this will not delete any of your data, however it will restore the phone settings as they where when new.
I hope this has helped

Nokia 5230 and Garmin Mobile XT
Hi !
I have decided to install Garmin Mobile on my Nokia 5230. I have asked the official Garmin support for informations about Garmin Mobile and Symbiaa S60 v5. They answered that the last version of Garmin Mobile is v5.00.60 and in theory it should almost certain work with S60v5 operating system (the version v5.00.50 should too), but the product is discontinued so they are not 100% sure. They sent me a list where I can still buy Garmin Mobile but I am not sure to spend 100€ because I'm not totaly sure if this will work with Nokia 5230. There's lots of info about Garmin v5.00.40 and v5.00.50 working on Nokia 5800 but no info about Nokia 5230.
Is there any Nokia 5230 user on this forum with Garmin Mobile installed? If yes which version of Garmin Mobile do you have?
Regards;Hi majidX
Using v5.00.50s60.9 on 5230 in landscape mode, presumably sensor settings no issues with other applications?

Nokia 5230 - using it with the car speaker
i possible to use the nokia 5230 with my car speaker. I want to use my phone on the car speaker, while driving. I am able to use aux to connect the nokia to my mp3player in the car, but i cant seems to use it on the voice calls. (it works fine if i use it to play mp3 on the phone)
is there any instruction how to use Nokia5230 with car speaker system? The phone would work connected by a 3.5 to 3.5 lead in as much as if you received a call whilst connected the music would stop and you would hear the caller through the car speakers, but you would still have to use the mike on the phone to speak to the caller . You need a bluetooth car kit to use it for calls properly. A work arround would be to use a splitter lead (one 3.5 extender with 2 inputs) then plug your phone into both a wired headset and the cars auxiliary input ! But doing this would mean a lot of wires !!!

Nokia 5230 - Issues in adding Contacts to message
Hii,
I bought a new Nokia 5230 and transferred all the data(contacts, messages etc) from my previous phone. I am facing some issues to send message.
When I add a contact from my phone book to the 'To' field, the contact is not getting added.
That is, I opened New Message option and clicked on 'To' or the contact button on the bottom, I get Contact list. But if I select any contact from the list, the list gets closed and no contacts get added to the To field.
I can send message by entering the number directly or by going to Contact list from the home screen-> Select the contact -> Select Message option.
I had issues in getting message, but it worked after restarting the phone. I have some other applications which lists the contacts list, but the application crashes if I select the contact detail.
I am using the latest version OS.
Please help me.
Thanks,
Arunif you are using another apps for contact list, may be conflicting with native phone's contact list app.
Remove that app and see if there is any improvement -
My nokia 5230 has killed 2 intenso 4gb microsd car...
I have a 8 months old nokia 5230, and it has just made 2 microsd cards useless.
The first one didn't work after 2 months, just stopped today, i took the battery out from my nokia, restarted it, still nothing, could this be the mobile's fault?
it also does turn off from time to time, goes a little bit slow, i don't have anything like some programs there just the original games and songs.Hey, so they fixed the problem with the Bluetooth by having me do a complete reset of the phone. Be careful doing this because it can delete all your contacts/pictures/whatever is saved on your phone. I would suggest taking it to a tmobile store and having them show you how to backup the info first. When you're ready, you hold down the send, end and camera buttons, then hold down the power button until the power goes off. Then release the power button and wait for it to reload, you can release the other buttons after the logo disappears. This worked when a normal power down and even a battery pull didn't fix it for us. Hope this helps, just be careful with the reset. I lost a lot of phone numbers because I didn't realize what would happen.

Via pc.
Try at a different time because sometime server may be down.

Gps doesn't work without a sim card
Does anyone know why GPS on my N900 doesn't work unless my sim card is inserted?
GPS seems to work on all my other Nokias without sim card (although obviusly it takes much much longer to locate me) but on the N900 I don't seem to get a gps fix at all.
Any help gratefully received. You might like to look at this thread:
/t5/Maemo-Devices/A-GPS-not-working-on-N900/m-p/584962/highlight/true#M904
If you change SIM it remembers settings from first one inserted so you may need to go to Settings > Location - disable then enable again.
Sorry without trawling way back through posts, I don't know where you are located, for example "Assisted GPS" won't work with TMO USA.
