GPS Ericsson FW5521GW no fix

Hello,
we've got two laptops (Thinkpad W540 & Thinkpad X230 Tablet) with Ericsson FW5521GW WWAN modules installed (Sim cards in each inserted as well).
However, none of the laptops manages to get a GPS fix at all after activation of GPS in the GPS Enabler.
Also additional tests with COM communication protocol from Visual Studio C# libraries does not yield any answer by the GPS module.
Both machines run Windows 7 Professional and are members of a Windows 2008R2 Standard & Windows 2012 Server Standard domain network.
The GPS is activated under Sensors.
Latest drivers for the FW5521GW [7.2.5.0] are installed.
Latest version of GPS Enabler [V2.8 - G1GP11WW] is installed.
Both machines have lastest Lenovo & Windows updates running.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks for reading

I have done the same as you have and have no issues with GPS however reading other forums it can be due to your country and the amount of people using GPS at any one time

  • Gps cant get a fix N97

    hello all,
i got my n97 from bahrain and so i have a middle east driving license. less than a week ago i traveled to ireland, and since i arrived there my gps couldnt get a fix on my location, not even one single bar is filled even when the sky is clear and i am walking in the outdoors like parks or streets.
i have tried it now for the past four days, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the maps. btw, i am using the ovi maps ""3.01 09wk34 b02 mw OpenGL LM MN
Map version 0.1.22.103 OpenBitLM 6.21.8"" as found in about section.
i have in my phone my bahraini chip with a package that doesnt allow me to make calls or use internet while roaming.
other than that the maps are working fine, and worked fine up till i arrived here in ireland, and whenever i try to find my location it say i am still back in bahrain, the red dot is not sharp, its kindda vauge .
if someone can direct me and help me i will be very grateful.
and if there are any other information that you need, please ask

I have had the same problem for a year.  Out of frustration I've been reading about methods of fixing the problem.  Adding a wire to the antenna, replacing the B-cover that holds the GPS antenna, etc.
My phone was built late last year and was supposed to have the NEW antenna and the modified camera lens cover.
The GPS function worked, sort of, when I bought it then rapidly deteriorated to virtually no connections to satellites.
My warranty is running out so I decided to open the B-cover to see if I could see anything.  When I replaced the cover it worked fine.  I chalk the fix to the contacts on the main board making a better contact to the antenna in the B-cover.  Generally get a good fix.  Never get an accuracy of less than 20 m but it works and the connection time is anywhere from 30 seconds to minutes.  My main reason for buying this unit was for walking navigation in European cities.
I had bought a Gamin 10x GPS Bluetooth antenna and I am getting an accuracy of 10 m, which is what I get with my Garmin Zumo 550 GPS and connection time of a couple of seconds. If anyone considers an external antenna do some research first.  Nokia makes a compatible Bluetooth antenna BUT it doesn't have the same technical specifications.  The Garmin unit is far superior.
If you decide to open your N97 be VERY careful.  There is a flat cable connecting the B-case to the on/off switch on the main body which could be damaged.  And when you reassemble the lock switch has a slot that has to match the pin on the switch on the main board.
My camera lens cover is scratching the clear plastic lens and I've ordered a new one that I will replace myself.

  • T400s GPS - Ericsson F3507g Windows 7 drivers

    Hi All,
I would like to highlight that drivers for WWAN fro Windows 7 arent working properly. I have T400s with WWAN Ericsson F3507g, 3G broadband is working fine, only GPS isnt working at all. When I open GPS enabler all the time I have stallite acquisition in progress and all values are N/A. Also Garmin Mobile PC isnt able to recognise this GPS. I have tried with preinstalled Windows 7 pro 32 bit, and also with Windows 7 ultimate 32 and 64 bit - always the same GPS not working at all.
After that installed Vista as a test, here GPS is working fine also Garmin is able to operate with it. When Vista drivers are installed in Windows 7 GPS seems to be working but after that wifi profiles in Access connections arent working properly.
All tests were made at the same time (5 minutes) at the same place, so GPS signal was good and conditions were same for Vista and also for Windows 7.
So Lenovo team please fix this problem with GPS drivers for WIN7.
    Thank you,
    David

    Hello all from Lenovo,
I think that there is time for upgraded drivers for F3507g for windows 7 isnt it? I was waiting for WIN7 with this notebook and finally when this version was avaliable on market there is not everything working. So please release some update to get GPS working on WIN7.
    Thanks,
    David

  • GPS data without a FIX

    Hello
I couldn´t finish the Part 1 of Homework 3 because my GPS didn't react when plugged on USB with the TTL cable (the FIX led didn't blink). Even though the FIX led blinks with one second rate when the GPS is on the breadboard, using GPIO.
I write some code to get GPS data, just to print it on console, and besides it didn't get a FIX (the led still blinks on the one second rate), I got the data below (a sample of it):

Why I'm receiving GPS data even if it hasn't got a FIX?
The GPS led at least blinked on both cases for every one? (by USB and GPIO)
    Thanks!

  • N97 GPS cannot get a fix..

My N97 gps is having difficulty getting a fix on my position.
i was side by side with my fiance E71, and hers gets  a fix in less than 20 secs. Whereas my N97 takes a long time, and after that, It just say unable to get a fix on the locatin, GPS works poor in enclosed area.
    Any help?

I do not think that the N97 hardware is a flaw because I have tested it, see my other feedback in the forum and what I did.
In brief, I get a GPS fix in 1 second with a 8cm ultra thin copper wire coiled and hidden under double-sided tape under the orignal label antenna. This is done by first coiling this wire over a double-sided tape and then purely slightly peeling the original anntena tape, and placing this double-side tape (with wire) onto the plastic. Then stick the original antenna tape back into position: all fully concealed, without screws or opening the phone.
Even, if I remove this antenna extension, I still get a GPS fix between 5 to 15 seconds. I will say the antenna extension increase the signal strength of GPS signals and give a GPS fix in 1 seconds instead of 5 seconds, and also help to provide GPS fix under (metallic roof) shelters. Without the antenna extension, it is not possible to get a GPS fix under metallic-roof shelters.
I installed Garmin Mobile, and accidentally found a file 20006e9c.sis in the private folder in the mass memory which help to get a GPS fix under 15 seconds, under all weather conditions. Then when I remove this file, I cannot get a GPS fix under 15 seconds, it took about 5 minutes to get a GPS fix under clear sky, no signal under bad sky.
Now I tried with Nokia Map. Without Garmin and the file, it took 5 minutes to get a GPS fix under clear sky, and no signal under bad sky.
Now I tried Nokia Map after Garmin activated (with the file), and I get GPS fix between 1 to 15 seconds under all conditions. And with the antenna extension, it is between instant 1 second to 5 seconds.
So I will say that the N97 hardware is ok, except the GPS software. I cannot see the private folder in the phone memory as it is blocked (my phone is not hacked). I believe installation of Nokia Map created some new files in the private folder but every installation create different file in the folder (just like Garmin).
Some N97 work well because the file created in the private folder improves the GPS fix while other files deteriorate the GPS fix.
My suggestion: if possible, remove and re-install the Nokia Map in the phone until the file created is the one that improves the GPS fix. Sorry, I only know the needed file for Garmin is 20006e9c.sis which should be in the private folder. For Nokia Map, I do not know what file, and anyway I cannot access the phone memory.
Cheers! I believe in the Nokia Equipment, though not in the firmware, especially the GPS software

  • X240 GPS (Ericsson N5321)

    Hi,
I am trying to do an installation with our own Windows 7 (Enterprise SP1 64bit) instead of the Windows 7 Professional coming from Lenovo, for our x240.
I get everything else installed conveniently, but for the Ericsson, I get it installed, and it sees the mobile broadband modem, but in the control panel I get the indication of the GPS as COM7, but with a question mark and the error 10 or the error 31.
I tried both the SCCM drivers (although we use LANDesk, more flexible) and manual installation, still the same. I even tried on a factory computer to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them, but there it seems to work, so I am starting to wonder if the problem is not the fact of using Windows 7 Enterprise (though it seems to make no sense).
Any suggestion, if someone has already installed Windows 7 Enteprise on those laptops, would be appreciated...
       Thanks,
                                        Alessandro

In order to GPS worked, its chip should be turned on.
I can't imagine why that error might appear.
At least, check out the card firmware version:
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x24...
It looks as for win8, but I hope it's package itself only.

  • GPS cannot get a fix

I'm having a "searching for GPS" issue that has been discussed in various places on the web.
    I have the following:
    1. Motorola Droid RAZR on Verizon
    2. Android 4.1.2 and Google Maps version 6.14.4
    3. I cannot get a GPS Fix on any apps using the GPS, including Google Maps and Naviation.
    4. All I have to do is open up any app that uses the GPS
    I tried:
turning on the off the GPS.
Clearing cache on all GPS apps
    Uninstall Google maps update
    Reinstall Maps update
    Nothing worked.
I even tried a Factory Data Reset.  That didn't fix the issue.
I read that it could be a SIM card issue.  Can I get that replaced for free?
    Terry

I just got the new version of Google Maps (v. 7).  I was hoping that would correct my problem with getting a GPS fix.  It has not.
So far I tried the following:
    1)  Toggling the GPS on and off
    2)  Clearing the cache
    3)  Uninstalling Maps
    4)  Removing SIM
    5)  Removing SD Card
    6)  Installing various GPS apps
    7)  Doing a factory device reset
    8)  And various combinations of the above
I have only the following options:
    1)  Try a new SIM card (Free)
    2)  Get a refurb (seems like a waste of money)
    3)  Get a brand new phone at full price (a greater waste of money)
    4)  Switch to a new carrier (will incur early termination fee but will be cheaper than 3
    Any other suggestions?

  • Very Slow Gps Fix On E71?

hi guys just this week i bought a nokia e71 with sygic mcguider preinstalled on it i updated the fw right away so i dont know if its got anything to do with the current fw v200 so everytime when i start up sygic i have to wait approx 7min for the gps to have a fix is this a common issue with nokia e71 or sygic? or maybe there is a solution for this please help info i have assisted gps, integrated gps and network based on.
    Nokia Lumia 1020 + Sony Xperia Z1

A-GPS if activated in your phone GPS fix is instantaneous. For A-GPS you need to activate GPRS and go to
tools->General->Positioning->Positioning Methods->Click on Assisted GPS, Integrated &Network based.
Access point You enter your Service provider
    Server address-supl.nokia.com
No close this and go to GPS->Maps->Maps->Settings->Internet->gon online at start
There is a small charge for gprs use. But this is very little since GPRS is used ONLY for initial GPS fix only and then GPRS will be inactive.
The success of this method depends on GPRS strength of your operator. I found this is working with some operators but is not working with few operators.
    Regards,
    Rajan

  • [E72] No fix position without A-GPS

Hi all, this is my first post on this furum.
Excuse me for my bad english!
    I have purchased a new Nokia E72...
When A-GPS is disable the phone can't make fix position :-(
I can wait 5, 10, 15 min. in open areas... no way, fix position is impossible!
I have checked on an Italian forum of telephony, a lot of people have exactly the same problem with Nokia E72!
This is an hardware bug?! Firmware bug?!
(when A-GPS is active the fix is very very fast and GPS antenna work good!)
    Thanks in advance

no buddy it´s not about hardware bug or software bug u have to understand the difference between GPS & A-GPS. A-GPS, is a carrier network dependent system which can, under certain conditions, improve the startup performance of a GPS satellite-based positioning system. It is used extensively with GPS-capable celluler phones.
Conventional or "Standalone GPS" operation uses radio signals from satellites. In very poor signal conditions, for example in a city, these signals may suffer multipath where signals bounce confusingly off buildings, or be weakened by passing through walls or tree cover. When first turned on in these conditions, some non-assisted GPS navigation device may not be able to work out a position due to the fragmentary signal, rendering them unable to function until a clear signal can be received continuously for up to 40 seconds (the time needed to download the GPS ephemeris.) Some newer receivers are better at handling these situations.
An A-GPS system can address these problems in several ways, using an assistance server or other data from a network.
    for better explanation Google it.

  • Help With GPS options

I am using my phone and do not want any "data" transfer so the carrier doesn't pick my phone up as a smart phone.  The phone is a 700.  Note that I do have Mobile Data turned off and Allow Mobile Data Usage set to in home network only.  Having the Data Usage settings configured that way might override how the following is set or should be set.
I am confused by all the "Positioning  Methods" and other options.  These are located under Settings/Applications Settings/Positioning/Positioning Methods.  Here you have -
    1- Assisted GPS
    2- Integrated GPS
    3- Bluetooth (self explanatory)
    4- WiFi Network
    5- Network Based
What are the differences in these options and which one or combination can I run for the best performance but without incurring any data charges?  To further complicate things under Settings/Application Settings/Map Apps/General there are several additional options I do not understand exactly.
1- Connection- either offline or online?
2-Network Destination- either Internet, multimedia message or WAP services
As a comment to Nokia, the manual sure leaves a lot to be desired.  There should be an option by option explanation for these items along with a zillion more that I find on the phone but not in the documentation.
    Thanks for your help all.

The attached User Guide should answer all the queries.. refer Pg. 6/7 for the First Part of query .. and Pg. 4 for the Second.. Network Destination should be 'Internet'
Integrated GPS  and Bluetooth GPS will give you Navigation without incurring any Data cost. But for the later you will need an external GPS receiver. The FIX will take much longer with the Integrated GPS.
Note that the User Guide is for Maps 3.06 but holds good for your query ..

  • Horendous gps with C6, I want to throw my phone in...

I am so freaaking sick of this phone, it is only few months old. I bought it mainly because of disposable keyboard and gps tracking. But gps just does not work. Today I am waling aroudn the city trying to get signal, because I was lost, and nothing helped. I waited like 30 minutes, in fact I tried to use **bleep**ing gps 3 days in a row and each time battery ran out and still not freaking signal
yes i tried so long that the battery ran out. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED PUTTING OUT A **bleep** OF A PHONE LIKE THAT: WHAT A PIECE OF **bleep** THIS PHONE IS: As soon as I find another solution, I am throwing this piece of garbage whre it belongs, in the sewer.

As MartinHo said, did you use A-GPS? If not, its not unusual for you not to get a signal. You are in a city with tall buildings blocking the GPS satellites. The GPS device on ANY phone cannot work as well as a dedicated GPS device simply because these are low power consumption models and are smaller. Simply put, use A-GPS to get the fix in a few seconds. Fix will take even more time if you did not pre-download maps onto your phone (opening maps show you a blank slate), because even if you do get a fix (a red dot in center of screen) you still have to use data to download the city maps. If you have set the maps to offline but does not have a downloaded map, then you'll get a position fix via coordinates but not the maps since you disabled downloading by setting offline.
If you want to use the maps without network cost, you have to predownload the maps, and have a working signal from an open area before daring to venture into a city with tall buildings.
If you want an easier approach and decide to throw away the phone, then buy a dedicated navigator. Shame it cant make a call though.
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

  • One thing fixed with iOS 4 and one thing not quite working yet.

Well, I was just outside after updating my 3GS to iOS4 and I noticed that my GPS lock-on was FIXED. It now locks on in mere seconds and shows a VERY accurate fix. Whether I have the Wi-Fi turned on or not, it just works now. I had all sorts of issues with this in 3.1.x but now it just works.
Now to the thing that is not working. My bookmarks from MobileMe are not being downloaded and applied to Safari in iOS4.
If anyone else has had this issue and knows of a fix, I would be most appreciative.

This issue is now resolved for me. I stopped the sync for all the different MobileMe services and then re-enabled them. Now, it all works as intended.

  • Sony Ericsson K810 and MacBook?

I'm looking at getting a K810 as my next mobile phone and wondered if anyone has any experience of how well this works with Bluetooth-enabled MacBooks.
I'm keen to get G3 data connectivity as the GPRS on the Nokia 6230i I'm currently using is slow and flaky, with frequent dropped GPRS connections even in areas of strong signal.
Any comments/advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Michael

I've got the phone but can't get it to connect. I had trouble getting the phone to use Orange Internet but got an update SMS from the Sony Ericsson site which fixed that, so the phone goes online OK and it pairs with MacBook fine. I ran the Bluetooth Setup from the laptop and it picked the Ericsson Infrared script by default, which didn't work at all, so I got Ross Barkman's Modem Scripts for Sony Ericsson 3G phones but can't make it work with any of them (CID 1 to 5). Some fail after a time-out with no apparent activity from the phone, others go right through to the 'Establishing connection' and 'Authenticating User' stage in the Bluetooth pane of Internet Connect and then the phone reports 'connection failure, check settings'. I got it to work once, using the CID 5 script but when I tried again it went back to the symptoms above.
    Any suggestions please?

I think the GPS is getting a FIX because the Fix LED on the GPS flashes once every 15 seconds.
    I have checked everything:
    - Cross-wired TX on the GPS breakout to RXD on the Cobbler breakout, and RX on the GPS to TXD.
    - I place the GPS device close to a window. But a I can't get a line of sight to the sky.
    - I check "cat /dev/ttyAMA0" but the output is empty.
Any idea? I have attached an image of my board.
    Thanks!

Thanks Tom for the answer. I think I have done all the modifications on raspberry files:
    pi@raspberrypi ~ $ tail /etc/inittab
    #T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS0 9600 vt100
    #T1:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS1 9600 vt100
    # Example how to put a getty on a modem line.
    #T3:23:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -x0 -s 57600 ttyS3
#Spawn a getty on Raspberry Pi serial line
    #T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyAMA0 115200 vt100
    pi@raspberrypi ~ $ tail /boot/cmdline.txt
    dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=tty1 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline rootwait
    It seems right, not?
And yes, I rebooted the raspberry several times :-(
    Thanks

How often do you use GPS?
The first Fix can take up to 45 minutes if you don't have or use A-GPS.
Try to leave the phone somewhere outside and wait for connection or buy an external BT GPS receiver which usually connects in a few seconds.
Why don't you as suggested just download the map data to your SD card? It is anyway for free.
Google Maps normally tries to use network positioning, which also works for Maps. Please check your setting in the GPS tab. If you need help please reply ;-)
