  • I feel like a sucker. I bought an iPAD2 at Fry's where I was told by the salesman that the non 3-G version does have GPS. It does not have GPS.  Is there any way I can use the GPS on my Iphone or Garmin to display in my new mostly unuseable iPad2?

Is there anyway to input a live, real time  video feed into an iPad2? I would like to use it as a remote monitor for a microscope camera in electrophysiology. Our camera was designed to run off of an older Mac via a firewire connection.  The camera is SUPERB but the computers are dated.  The older  computers connected to an AC line are  electrically noisy.  I have worked out converting the signal from our camera to HDMI and/or USB2 but the iPad2 will not allow any input except via iTunes which is not real time, and requires several steps. Is it possible to use the only mostly useless iPad2 as the excellent portable DC driven display which it is?!!!  How do I get Apple to say anything but IGNORE, IGNORE IGNORE.  This would be a universal application in academics and all I think I need is permission from the iPad2. The original signal was designed for Apple hardware. They can have the patents. HELP?

Your wifi-only iPad does not have GPS. Read the specs for your device.

  • What is a good gps app for ipad2 ?

What is a good gps app for ipad2?

Good for what?  That would depend on what you want to use it for.  Also, it would depend on whether you have a 3G unit.  Without 3G to stream maps, the GPS would be mostly worthless for on-the-move navigation.
Even with 3G, it would be real easy to blow right past the 256MB plan and even the 2GB plan while out and about.

  • Does anyone know the technical specifics of the GPS receiver in the iPad2?

I have an iPad2 that I use in the aviation community and I am trying to learn the technical specifics of the GPS receiver in the 3G iPad 2, i.e. sensitivity, how many satelites does it receive concurrently, what level of accuracy is used to measure its reception quality?
Does anyone have this data or know where I might find it?

Ifixit.com identifies it as the Broadcom BCM4751 Integrated Monolithic GPS Receiver in their iPad 2 G3 teardown.

  • Is it possible to use the GPS function on an IPAD2 without a 3G or WiFi connection

I have an IPAD2 with WiFi+3G.  I need to be able to use the GPS without a WiFi or 3G connection.  Is this possible?  If so how.

Yes you can. The 3G iPad has a built-in GPS chip so doesn't need a connection to a 3G or wifi network to work. If you want to be able to view your position on a map then you need the relevant maps to have already been downloaded to the iPad, so you probably need one of the third-party mapping apps.

  • Does iPad2 have a GPS receiver?

Does iPad2 have a GPS receiver?

    Depends:
If its a Wifi only model, then no.
If its a Wifi + Cellular (3G) model then yes as the GPS chip is part of the Cellular hardware.

  • Do I need 3G on iPad2 for GPS tracking?

I want to use iPad 2 as a GPS router. I think this could only be done with 3G with the iPad1. I believe this is not the case with the iPad2 (?). From what I understand, the 3G is now stricktly for internet connection through cel phone network. Am I correct?
    Tks

3G has nothing directly to do with GPS. It's just that the 3G model is the only one of to two to also have GPS hardware; the WiFi-only model does not. So if you want true GPS capability, you must have the  3G model of iPad (this is the same for the iPad 1 as well as the iPad 2).

  • HT5429 I like the GPS Map APP presently on my iPad2.  If I upgrade to IOS6 will I lose the current APP?

I have an IPad2 and have been very happy using Google maps and the asssociated navigation.  I also use Golfshot which relies on the embedded GPS.  Will I lose all that with the latest software upgrade?  Or can I have both?

Google map app has been replaced by Apple Maps in iOS 6.
I haven't updated my iPad 2 yet. iOS 6 doesn't add much for iPad 2.

  • How do I get my iPad2 to use an external GPS receiver

I have a Marine Navionics Chart app on my iPad. I have bought an external Blue Tooth GPS receiver. The iPad has recognised the device. I wish to use this to improve the accuracy of my location when at sea. When I have "Location Services" off my iPad does not seem to want to use the external receiver (a GNS 1000 device).
How can I get it to use this device?

Make sure to select your recever in Audio Out options, under Sound in System Preferences. If you cannot see your receiver listed, than it is most likely ana adapter issue.

  • How to add GPS to an ipad2 with only wifi

How to add GPS to wifi only iPad

    From another discussion https://discussions.apple.com/message/20077221#20077221
"Location services depend on a database of Wi-Fi access points with known geographical positions. If the device is not within range of at least one of those access points, it can't be located." - Linc Davis
So if your iPad is near a WiFi access point with a known geographical position, you already have reasonable GPS-based location knowledge on your iPad.

How do I turn off the iPad 2 gps to use external bluetooth gps dual xgps150?

I do not believe the software allows you to select different signals. The Dual XGPS connects via bluetooth and sinks just fine. It seems to me I need to disable the internal GPS or having 2different signals would create confusion for the iPad.
Have you tried it? I think it is not the iPad that will be confused but rather it will be your app if it can't determine which GPS signal to use. I'm still not understanding why you think the iPad GPS won't find the satellites when the xgps will.
Have you asked how to set up xgps in the xgps forums? http://xgpsdev.xwaves.net/forum/
Is there more than one version of xGPS? Did you download the app from the app store? I was just reading about a xGPS that requires "jailbreaking" the iPad. If this is what you are using we can not discuss here as jailbreaking is not allowed in these forums.
Or, is this the xgps you are trying to use? http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xgps/id386028876?mt=8

  • Locate my sales force using the GPS capabilities of an iPad2. Possible?

What if I have a nation wide sales force equipped with iPad 2 devices. I want to be able to see where they are on a map from the home office using the GPS locator capabilities built in to the device. The idea would be to get the closest salesperson to respond to a sales lead. Is this possible? Waht applications or setup would be necessary?
    Tom

I cannot speak from experience becasue my iPad is Wi-Fi, I can only pass on what I have read. GPS only is a much slower system to initiate. You need to be in an area where the iPad can create an unobstructed line of sight with the satelite system. And that can take a while to occur. But with a SIM card you can take advantage of Assisted-GPS and tap into the fact that your iPad can know where it is faster becasue it can tap into the local cellular network and a data base of cell tower locations, as well as wi-fi hotspot locations. Folks report that this works even if you do not actually have cellular service account activated.
Are location services activated on your iPad? Have you ever denied the iPad access to your location?

  • Is it worthed to get Ipad2 with 3g? 'coz got a gps than the one with wifi only?

Ipad 2 wifi + 3g is worthed to use and safe in the road? with this gps feature that how would you use this gps?

I got the 3G feature cause I'm away from home (and wifi ) almost all day and its nice to have 3G when say you're on a trip , it's safe to use on the road but I don't suggest using the iPad while you drive and the gps feature is good for navigation .
