GPS is V E R Y inacurate!!! E75

Hello all users of NOKIA GPS!
Here I am with my problem...
I have brand new NOKIA E75
When I start GPS, navigation shows my position 10-15 meters away from my real place, though I am freezed on one sertain place (without moving) for several minutes.
Becides that, device shows that I am moving in 15 meters radius around one spot!!! and it shows 2.5km/h or sometimes 3.2km/h as my speed Though I am still standing without single move.
What's wrong with this device?
May be the GPS reciever is NOT as good as it should be to navigate?

Hi, Gps works based on triangulation, the very moment one sat comes up in the coverage area you position is recalculated as well as when connection with one is lost. This changes are reflected in the changes in your speed and position while you stand still. It is noticeable even on purpose bilt navigators not as obvious as on mobile phones. As it was said before A-Gps helps (mostly for traf assist), but there are alternatives for symbian from popular top-market leaders that work great on nokias.
I'm currently testing the nokia built in nav and maps and I have to say the navigation experience is good, maps could do with improvement but overall it performs well. I have two other navigation software installed on my e75 with better maps but there is no big difference in accuracy between any of them. As a conclusion gps on e75 is above average if you use good maps and software while the phone has a few letdowns that hopefully will be sorted out in future firmware updates. Don't get me wrong I love it.

  • Using the GPS with a Nokia e75

I want to use the GPS with my Nokia E75 without connectig the Internet. Is it possible??

    Hi,
YES! it is possible. You simply neeed to enable GPS and disable the other Positioning method. Please check your userguide to see how to change positioning settings.
    Hope this helps.

  • Maps 3.0 with E75 (new SW 125) A-GPS Problem

    Hello,
I have yesterday updatet my E75 with nokia maps 3.0. It works fine but allways it takes a long time to fix GPS.
    So I think A-GPS doesn´t work.
With maps 2.0 it takes 2-3 sec. to fix the GPS.
My E75 has the new firmware 110.48.125
    Has anybody a idea?
    Thanks
    Scoty81

Well, not only that the Ovi Maps is slow. Here is a complete symptom list which I could think this far with latest updates.
First mistake was to click update maps downloader link.
    1. Maps loader 3.0 seems to be incompatible with Maps 2.0 app on the phone.
    2. Downloading Ovi Maps to phone should help, but now you either will get error that not enough memory on memory card (even that there is actually 7 gigabytes in my case)
    3. or if you use bluetooth you will probably see error about connection been lost.
    4. Downloading a new firmware does not help. Now however with latest firmware on phone you have gained a new "feature" with USB cable that it will crash your computer (in Vista or in XP. No difference). If you take USB connection as mass memory, your pc will start to recognize the phone over and over again. In one point it may stop. Somewhere between 20th and 120th accept click. But usually slower computers have crashed totally before this happens.
So, at the moment I have latest Maps downloader, latest Firmware, Latest Ovi Maps on my phone and yet still I cannot actually download any maps because of the list of symptons above. So using your mobile as gps abroad is now extremely expensive because all map data must be downloaded through GPRS.
Good thing about Maps 3.0 is that it is actually faster to load than the old Maps 2.0 app, but the connection time with satellites and positioning seems to be still extremely long. Usually I manage to find my way to a needed place before I actually get a positioning working.

  • E75 update 201.12.01 gps

    Hello, all
After updating, gps doesn't work any more.
When going to GPS menu item, and then GPS Data, I don't see satellites any more in the options menu.
Any idea about how to solve the problem?
    Thanks and best regards

I have also noticed that the Satellite Status function is no longer available via the Options menu in the positions aplication. This seems to be another BUG in the latest firmware update.
Is there a way to get this bug formally logged some where, I travel frequently and use the maps and GPS functions all the time.

  • Help! E75 new firmware doesn't work!!

    I upgraded to 201.12.01 firmaware.
Now I can't make any calls ("call forbidden") and I don't receive any calls.
Also the phone's menu is very buggy: when I choose smth in the menu I get in the wrong page!
I made a hard reset. The phone worked well for 2 hours. But when I finished installing all the software - it broke again the same way ((
What's wrong?? Is there any chance to cancel that new "improving" firmaware?
How can I get that phone work well??
PS. It was the last time I bought Nokia phone. I think Nokia can produce only "simple" phone models, but not a smartphone..
PPS. DO NOT UPGRADE A FIRMWARE IN YOUR PHONE!!!!

yep i gave the same advice to my friends: do not upgrade the phone. at least until the bugs are fixed.
We were promised by a new firmware update coming today, my main problem is with my GPS, it keeps hitting me with no connection, like the phone is totally separated from its GPS receiver, it worked just fine before with the v110 firmware, and Nokia  totally removed the satellite status which i found really useful!!!
this firmware is a real screw up for NOKIA i always loved their phones and updates, hope they fix these issues soon, cause i really loved my e75

  • How can I sync Google Calendar with my E75?

This is driving me insane. I've searched and searched and searched the web for a way to sync my E75 unlocked phone with Google Calendar. 90% of the threads and comments Google digs up simply say, "It doesn't work." Some people seem to have manged to get it to work with some very minor variations on the following directions:
    1. On the E75, press the Menu key.
    2. Select Email.
    3. Remove the Mail for Exchange mailbox (if it currently exists).
    4. Select New from the home screen of the Email application.
    5. Press Start.
    6. Enter a fictitious email addres that you know does not exist.
    7. Press OK.
    8. Enter a fictitious password for the fictitious email address.
    9. Press OK.
    10. Select Mail for Exchange.
    11. Type in your Gmail username/email address.
    12. Press OK.
    13. Leave the Domain blank.
    14. Press OK.
    15. Type: m.google.com
    16. Press OK twice.
    17. Type in your Gmail password.
    18. Press Log in.
    19. Go to the home screen of the Email application.
    20. Select Settings.
    21. Select Personal information management.
    22. Select Applications.
    23. Select Calendar.
    24. Select Calendar sync (this will enable calendar).
    25. Go to the home screen of the Email application.
    26. Select Settings.
    27. Select Mail for Exchange.
    28. Select What to sync.
    29. Select Sync email (this will disable email).
    30. Select Back three times.
    31. Press Options.
    32. Select Synchronize.
My problem is that my E75 Mail app doesn't have the Mail for Exchange option described in step 10. The rest of the procedure just goes down the tube at that point. After a great deal of research, I'm left with the impression that either something is wrong with my phone or these directions are out of date. Has anyone had recent experience configuring the E75 to work with Google Calendar either through MfE or through another (free) app?

     Hi there,
didn't read your complete rant, it's clear you've disappointed by substandard product and/or mismatching expectations, I on the other hand have had a exceptional good experience with my N95. It's reaching old age now, so I can't wait for the N900. However I do see Nokia has a challenge to overcome, well two actually. Yes you're right they're trying too hard to create some Nokia-bounded platforms, instead of facillitating the connectivity between platforms. Recently saw some intresting concepts in the beta apps, but they require a similar nokia app on the other side. Well I'm very sorry Nokia, nowadays I don't even know the number of the person I'll be calling, do you really believe I know (or want you to tell me = $$?) who of my contacts has this app enabled?  With some good will and some fantasy I could say it's a part of brandpositioning and solidifing (or some other fancy BS ;-) ). Nokia however also seems to have an issue with postdevelopment integration and streamlining of their apps. Developing apps as more or less seperate entities might seem a sensible develment strategy and it probably is when combined with good (read efficient and thus "cheap") projectmanagement.  If a contact has a birthday mentioned in contacts, don't you think I would want to see that in my calendar? If I try to be smart, I give the input myself, but then what happens? When syncing I get 2 birthdays is my outlook calendar ;-( Similar ennoying feat happens with GPS locations, I´m using serach address, use contactlist. Have a guess where I´d like the coordinates to go to when saved....no it´s not a new and seperate entry in favourites which in turn is read by the address book, these things should have seamless integration.  User experience and ultimately satisfaction cannot be achieved by solely developing series of new and improved functionalities,  cause to us,  the consumer it´s not primarily a functionality. It´s actually a person, either in direct communication or otherwise stored for future communication. As a producer of these communication devices Nokia should show they understand this, preferably through their products. Regarding your issue syncing with Google Calendar, I'm assuming you're already using the calendar. Why not download the Google apps app? Or if you only want the calendar, take the standalone calendar app, Basically you'll have a mobilized calendar view with most of the functionalities there. Can't be online indefinetly? Just save the page locally, nothing you can't handle ;-) The solutions with either MfE reconfig or syncing with outllook/windows calendar in the middle are feasible too, however you do need to be carefull when setting direction and/or dominance of the sync relation. Multipoint syncing can become a severe headache if you haven't set it up proparly..... I've also included a google info mail, they send me some time ago. Loads of info&links, I'm sure there's a solution there which will fit your needs

  • Nokia E75 does not support sis files

I've been trying to upgrade the Ovi maps on my E75, because navigation has kept me saying that I need to renew the license. I went to Nokia web site and found out that I need to upgrade Ovi maps in order to get the free navigation. I have a 202.12.01 firmware and I installed it once again when I had unsuccessfully tried to upgrade Ovi maps. I have Ovi maps v3.01 09wk44b01 (MW OpenGL LM MN) and Map version 0.1.24.114 (OpenBitLM 6.22.5). I've deleted all old maps and started to download new ones successfully over Nokia Ovi Suite. I've downloaded Nokia Ovi Suite and followed the instructions for downloading and installing the newest version of Ovi maps application (I suppose it must be newer than the one I have on now, because navigation still wants me to buy license, I guess it must be 3.03 or higher). I've tried it several times from the scratch, just to make sure I did it right. Of course I've also chosen the right E75 phone from the drop down menu and I downloaded the file nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.2_lm_rom.sis. I double-clicked it and everything seems to be right, but when action on the phone should be required the installation guide says "Nokia E75 does not support sis files". From the sis file name I can only now see that I have this version already installed.
Does this mean I can not use navigation for free on E75?
Can anybody help me ASAP, because I need the navigation evey day very badly?

I'v followed the directions of chanchan05 "Just uninstall the maps app, delete the folder and file I mentioned, then reboot your phone. Open the maps app, and it should recreate the qf file and cities folder in a version compatible to 3.03." on /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Wasn-t-it-supposed-to-be-quot-Navigation-on-your-Nokia-Free/m-p/668305#M...
Afterwards I installed the sis file you pointed me to and it worked. The maps on the phone were deleted, so I downloaded new ones over Nokia Ovi Suite and tried the navigation. Unfortunately it stills demands buying the licence for the navigation.
I guess this is because the recommended sis file is v3.01 and not v3.03? Is that right?
    Any other solution?

  • Maps and navigation with the Nokia E75

    Hi
I am thinking of buying the Nokia E75. Can you now download maps from the noikia store for free
or is there a one of price or perhaps a subscription And would then also cost to use GPS for turn by turn navigation?

As E75 is an S60 3rd Ed. FP2 device there are a couple of things to point out. Firstly whilst you can download regional mapping for offline use using Nokia Suite you would need to purchase a navigation license for voice navigation and secondly as device uses map data series 00.01.29.100 it is getting further out of date as time goes by.
There can be an issue with license manager to allow you to purchase navigation license from shop and may need to backup essential data and restore device to "Out of box" state by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by user) and re-install nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom.sis ‏5410 KB

  • Nokia E71 & GPS Not Working

    Dear All,
I have purchsed two E71s; one for my wife & one for myself.
I loaded Nokia Maps & could not get the GPS to connect to my position.
I went to the Nokia Store in Regent STreet London & they stated that it could take up to 30 minutes initially to find a signal.
A week later I am in the same situation.
I have reset the phone to factory settings & reloaded the maps & still nothing.
Is this a fault on the phone, if so I will return the device & notify you guys if faulty.
In the meantime, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not working with E75 either. It just keeps telling me GPS signals are weak indoors (or whatever) and I'm standing outside - on a damn airport..!!! What on earth could be wrong this time with this Nokia..?
I'm not familiar with the E75, but do you have Assisted GPS turned on? If not, it can take quite a long time to find the satellites if you've significantly changed your location since the last time you used the GPS function - sometimes up to half an hour. With Assisted GPS switched on it should only take a couple of minutes.
Large buildings, high mountains and other obstacles can interfere with getting a GPS lock, and can be quite a problem depending on exactly what angles the satellites are to your position. Electronic interference from radar could also be a factor at airports.
If I've helped you, you can thank me by clicking the green 'kudos' star on my post. Cheers.

  • E75 - Keypad disabled/Working offline

I inserted my sim card into my nokia E75, which prompted a 'do you want to work offline' screen. I selected 'yes' and this directed me to the phones main screen (menu).
I have tried selecting various features on the menu yet it appears that my keyboard has been disabled. I cannot select any features or even move my arrows.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers

Nokia Sports Tracker does not use the accelerometer to calculate steps. Instead it uses the GPS receiver to calculate speed, distance and co-ordinates which it stores in a training diary (similar to Step Counter). You can then analysis your workouts and share your routes with other users.
Your E75 has a built-in GPS receiver and you may have to wait a while for it to gain a signal (turn on A-GPS for a quicker lock) before Sports Tracker will start collecting data.

  • E75 Question

    Hello,
I just replaced my E71 with an E75 and so far I really like it. I have my email syncing with MS Excahnge and it seems to work very well. I have two questions related to the email:
1.) How do I set the email button to Open the Exchange email inbox? Currently when I click it it propmts me again to chose "Mail for Exchange". Is there a way to have it automatically open the inbox for exchange automatically?
2.) On the home screen when I miss a call, have a voicemail message or get a text message I get icons that appear at the bottom of the screen. On my E71 when I got an exchange email that icon appeared, but with the E75 it does not appear for an new exchange email. Anyone know how to get this to appear?
    Thanks....

The E75 has built-in GPS and uses A-GPS to make fast satellite connections. Check the manual and have a nice vacation.

  • E75 Marking Old Emails as Unread

For some reason my E75 (running the latest update) decided today that approx 75 messages in each of my two mail accounts are suddenly unread and it's no longer syncing. It did this once before and a factory reset fixed it, but doing that every month or so is not a fix.
This phone has been great in some respects and shocking in others: I've had plenty of issues with the email setup (not being able to specify details manually?! Had to use the web interface), I've only managed to get the GPS to find some satellites once and the volume buttons don't work except in a call.
    Any ideas folks?

I am having a very similar problem on my E71 on v400 firmware.
Sycing still works but since yesterday lots of old emails from various dates in various folders have become showing as unread. Giving me a notification on every sync for about an hour as more and more mails were marked as unread.
I'm currently going through the mails and marking them as read and hoping this doesn't happen again.

  • N97 GPS Problems - Hardware or Software?

Sorry to start yet another thread on the N97 GPS problems, but reading through all the threads there seems not to be any clear conclusion as to whether or not the issue is a software/firmware one, in which case potentially fixable, or a hardware one, in which case the phones have to be sent back and replaced.
My personally feeling is that it's hardware.  Some people have no issue but many have a problem.   I have the same issues with losing the satellites, poor GPS accuracy, etc. both with Ovi Maps 3.01 and with Google Maps, which again to me points to a hardware fault.  Updating firmware from v10 to v11 made no difference to GPS performance.
So, I wonder if people agree with me that it is a hardware issue and the phones have to go back, or if there is some hope of it being a software issue and thus being fixed?
Anyone had any success in sending back an N97 for replacement because if the GPS issue? Mine is a UK 3 branded N97 black, free as part of a contract, and I have a feeling that 3 are likely to resist replacing the phone if they can.
    Mark

I believe that the GPS problem in N97 not a hardware problem but a software problem with the Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.
    Below explanation why:
I have been using Nokia Maps 2.0 on my previous phone – E71 for more than one year. It worked pretty well and stable. One important remark – it is important to configure the server for AGPS under Settings well...
About one and half month ago I decided to install on my E71 the newest Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.0. And ... immediately my problems started. The GPS performance worsened – I was continuously getting messages about GPS lost, recalculating and usually concluding that I am on a parallel road to the road which I was actually driving – horrible...
Also my colleague with N82 made the same mistake (installed Maps 3.0) and got the same problems.
Because of this problems I have removed this new version on my E71 and went back to Nokia Maps 2.0. And guess what? - The problems were gone!
Two weeks ago I bought my N97. It comes only with Maps 3.1 so I was expecting problems. And ... indeed I have them all. Bad thing is however that I cannot go back to Maps 2.0 on N97...
I tested GPS accuracy with three different phones (N97, E71, E75) and two versions of Nokia Maps. What I can see is that its normal to be about 80-100 meters on average. This is not a specific N97 issue! And apparently should not be a problem because Nokia Maps 2.0 works great even if this application shows accuracy of 100 m. Probably thanks to the Assisted GPS.
So my conclusion is that it is not a hardware problem but a problem with (a part of) the software of the Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.x ! Maybe with a GPS Driver? Or the functionality of the assisted GPS?

  • Turn by turn navigation software for nokia E75

I live in the US and own an E75, and I am looking into turn by turn navigation on my phone for driving directions. I only want to pay a one time fee for whatever software I get.
Currently, the only thing I see that would work is Garmin Mobile XT. It's just that I don't like the fact that you have to switch out the micro sd card. What other options are there?
Also, is the built in GPS on the phone good enough for turn by turn navigation, or am I going to be frustrated and find myself missing turns when I am in areas that I'm not familar with? I can't exactly be looking at the phone while I am driving. Or is it worth spending a few extra bucks to buy a GPS for my car?

The built in GPS receiver is just about adequate. It is low powered to conserve battery. As a result, it can be slow and innacurate under certain circumstances such as in cities with tall buildings.
If you are planning on using your phone for serious navigating, I would suggest getting a good external bluetooth GPS receiver. They are no longer expensive and perform much better.
