GPS Issues on Bold 9650

I've got the Bold 9650 on Verizon and have been having issues with any GPS related services over the past few weeks.  I believe all of my settings are correct but every app that has the ability to use location not seem able to connect with the GPS.  Google Maps will occasionally work but that's about it.  BB Maps, Weatherbug, GoogleMobile app, Bing, etc, will not connect.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Check setting then try to access the application. Go into Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS, GPS Services can be changed to either "E911 Only" or "Location On".
Options->Advanced Options->GPS-> Location On & Enabled

  • Issue syncing Bold 9650 and Entourage Calendar using Desktop Manager

I'm trying to sync calendar items in Entourage residing on my MacBook Pro with calendar items on my BB Bold 9650 and noticed that "Entourage" is no longer offered as a calendar choice with which to sync (I've been a BB and Entourage user for 2 years and this is a new issue - Entourage used to be offered as a choice).  I tried to fix by uninstalling Desktop Manager and reinstalling with newest version - no change - problem persists.  Calendar items are not syncing between BB and Entourage - any idea how to fix?

    My apologies hiforman.
If you click on Calendar in BlackBerry Desktop Software does it list more than 1 calendar?
Also you're saying in Contacts does it just list entourage?
Also open up iCal on the Mac, do you see an entourage calendar listed?
I look forward to your reply.

  • Multiple issues with Bold 9650

So far, I'm not a fan of the new OS; half of the phone doesn't seem to work as well as it did prior to the update. That being said, I realize not all of it is under VZW's control...
Still, there is one issue. I'm on an unlimited data plan and, as I tried to load Twitter while at lunch today, I got a message saying: "You are currently on a service plan that does not support this application. If you want to use this application, please contact your service provider to upgrade your data plan."
I've never seen this before today, and as of 15 minutes ago, my bill is paid in full.
    What gives?

Have you tried a battery pull? Remove the battery from your device, wait a few seconds then place your battery back into your device and power on. Your Blackberry will take a few moments to completely power on. Once it's on the home screen, update your device by dialing *228 option 2. Also, check the coverage map HERE to verify the coverage in your area. Please let me know if this helps!

  • Bold 9650 freezes when uploading pics (Facebook v1.9? issue?)

I have the Bold 9650 and use v5.0.0.975 and upgraded to the new Facebooko v1.9 as soon as it was available (did not get the beta app, I waited) and ever since I did whenever I go to take a pic and upload it to FB, my phone freezes and locks up. Every time! IF it decides to unfreeze (and that has only happened less than 1/2 a dozen times) then it will not allow me to cick on any other icons on my phones main screen...sms, contacts, email, browser. The only other solution is a battery pull and that is getting old REALLY quick!
Well, let me just say that this is when I noticed the problem...I am assuming it is tied to the FB upgrade, but I could be wrong.
I have tried posting on Crackberry.com and not gotten any helpful advice so wondering if someone in here could help me with some suggestions to prevent this from happening every time.
I am thisclose to doing a complete system wipe and starting over to see if that would help...but that would be my last resort, obviously!
Thanks in advance for your response!

Hi!!  I have the same exact issue, we are both not alone and i'm soo happy i actually found someone else that is having this happen.  I'm not happy we have this problem cause i know its exhausting.  DO NOT DO A SECURITY WIPE!  It won't help.  I've done a wipe and verizon just replaced my phone on Friday and i am still having this issue.  Also, i'm now running v 5.0.0.1006 so its not the os like i thought it was.  I am starting to think it is the fb app.  Maybe should just uninstall fb and wait for an updated version, i don't know...
    Hope this helps alittle...

Valene: I never did the security wipe - I upgraded to OS 6.0.0.028 and am STILL having this problem with uploading pics using the FB app as well as the mobile site...I have 11 months left before my NE2 and will more than likely be switching to an Android at that time...ticks me off that every time I want to upload a pic and share it that I have to do a freakin battery pull. Sure hope the powers-that-be at FB and BB see these posts and get to steppin on a fix!

  • Signal issue Bold 9650

I previously had a Tour and had no issue with the signal reception anywhere that I went.  Since "upgrading" to the Bold 9650 and OS 6 my signal strength is horrible.
Has anyone figured out a fix to this issue?  Please Help

I don't know if you got this resolved - check your Options >> Call Management >> In-call settings, and check the volume settings for the default setting and also Audio enhancement.  If you have had a headset plugged in,  perhaps it still thinks the headset is there?  Just guessing here...

  • Bold 9650 is the WORST phone I have ever had!!! :-(

OK... I "upgraded" my phone to the Bold 9650 when it just came out earlier this year, wanting the latest and greatest. I have been an extremely loyal BlackBerry user for more than a decade. In fact, one BlackBerry I had a while back went a year-and-a-half without crashing, freezing, nor giving me any trouble whatsoever. Now, unfortunately, with my bold 9650, I'm lucky of I can go an HOUR-and-a-half without some sort of freeze or crash, and often the only way to get back on track is to pull the battery and restart. Several. Times. Each. Day. And I get REALLY tired of seeing the spinning icon showing me that BlackBery is doing something on its own, but I cannot do a thing with it. Can't move the thumbwheel. Can't enter any text. Can't even shut the phone off!!!
Am I alone, or are others out there experiencing the same problems? I'm about to abandon the Bold 9650 and get something else. What is a good replacedment for it?
    Thank you.

Thanks to SuzyQ for your input. Hi OEMMaster, How much memory is on your device? It could be low memory causing your device to freeze. Please try cleaning the memory to free up some space and resources. If your memory cleaning feature is not turned, please use the steps below to enable this feature with helping to avoid low memory.  I'm providing steps below for turning this feature along with a link to our website to the user manual and simulator supporting your device. If you have tried these suggestion and still have the issues, I could look into an option of offering you a certified like new replacement if you are under warranty. Please send me a private message with your information to be assisted further. I hope this helps.
To turn on the memory cleaning feature:
    1. On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.
    2. Click Security > Advanced Security Settings > Memory Cleaning.
    3. Select the Enable check box.
    4. Press the key > Save.

  • BB Bold 9650 update .732 battery problem

I've had this new BB Bold 9650 for a couple weeks since the stores don't seem to carry the Tour anymore. But either way, it wasn't a signal hound but worked fine and battery life was good. But after the .732 update it's still no signal hound but now my battery is dieing after 8 Hrs...of no use!
So since the battery was fine before the update, I'd say it's not a bad device. And I've never had problems in my location with other VZW phones, I'm guessing with the update this device is really working hard to maintain a connection?

    Thanks.
    Hi,
Taterbug, I sent you a PM giving you the URL for the .699 file.  I did find out one thing.  I performed a clean install of my Bold with the 5.0.0.732 upgrade and it seems to be stable for the moment.  The battery drain has gone and the signal issues have leveled out.  I did a wipe of my device and loaded the .732 OS on my Bold and for the past 4 days it has been doing well.  One thing I have found is that when I have WiFi going along with the mobile network too, the battery will drain very fast...in a matter of a few hours.  I don't know if the clean install did anything different or not, but for now, for me, all seems to be ok.  I just thought I would report this to you all.  Any changes, and I will report here.

  • Need to sync contacts from an old Desktop address book on Bold 9650

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes!
I have a user with a Bold 9650 that has two Desktop address books on their device:
    - 1 from the old enterprise activation at a previous company that we saved and restored
    - 1 from the current activation that is correctly syncing with Exchange
For the old one, they want to pull in about 800 contacts sitting there and get them syncing with Exchange.
Quesiton is how do I do this? I can't seem to back up the book and restore it over the current, and I can't otherwise seem to access it in a way to do this.  I know there must be a way, so any hints would be great!
Desktop 6 is installed on their system, and I do have admin access to the BES Server, etc if need be.

Hard Reset the new Treo so it's completely erased.  Perform a HotSync, and when Palm Desktop asks you to "Create a New Account, or use an Existing One?" choose "Existing" and pick the HotSync name of your old data.

  • Apploader.msi error, bold 9650

okay, I have a bold 9650 with the 6.0 os and it was running fine. The update came out. I installed it. Now, I cannot run the desktop manager it is constantly looking for apploader.msi. I have unistalled and reinstalled the OS for pc, running outlook 2007. I have removed everything with "blackberry or rim". help

This posting referred to another Bold 9650 listing. Reading it still might give you an idea. Think the example would start with 9650 instead of 9870.
I will assume for a moment that you have only one phone, e.g. the Bold 9780 smartphone and the driver
is not yet loaded but if it is go to the last paragraph near the bottom which starts with "Now it appears ".
I suggest first checking in ‘Add or Remove Programs’ accessed via the control panel whether you have
    these 2 programs installed:
    BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1
BlackBerry Device Software v6.0.0 for BlackBerry Bold 9780 smartphone
The important one is the Device software for the proper phone. You might want also find a listing of:
    BlackBerry Device Software Updater
as well on this page. This software is not needed to communicate with your phone and is optional.
(I don’t know whether one has to install device software for each model of a phone which one connects
to the DTM.  I noticed you have also a Bold 9650 and it might not like the Bold 9780 device driver and
    vice
versa. I assume you need both drivers present when you have 2 different phones, see below).
You can find the device software here:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Here is an example for the 9780 phone (above assumption).
find:North America,  then select  'Bell Mobility Inc.' ( We assume for a moment you are withBell because
each service provider gets their own driver).
next page  is called:   'Download for Bell Mobility Inc.'
    Next select a phone, e.g. 9780
    Next appears:
    Software For BlackBerry® Bold™ 9780 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.2647 (All Languages)
    Package Version: 6.0.0.2647
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 6.0.0.600
    Software Platform: 6.6.0.223
    File name: 9780AllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel2647_PL6.6.0.223_A6.0.0.600_Bell_Mobility_Inc.exe
    File size: 188.21MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About
    screen on the handheld.
Here is a second example for a Bold9780 phone if serviced by Rogers.
find:North America,  then  select  ‘Rogers.' (We assume for a moment you are withRogers because
each service provider gets their own driver)
    Next select a phone, e.g. 9780
    Software For BlackBerry® Bold™ 9780 smartphone
    BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.1879 (Multilanguage)
    Package Version: 6.0.0.1879
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 6.0.0.448
    Software Platform: 6.5.0.136
    File name: 9780M_PBr6.0.0_rel1879_PL6.5.0.136_A6.0.0.448_Rogers_Wireless_Inc.exe
    File size: 172.96MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About
screen on the handheld / your Bold phone.
Now you might want to go back to:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
wait a bit till the page is populated and choose you particular need (you did not list in your profile the
    phone company).
After you have the right device driver for Version 2647 hit download and store the handheld software
also known as the 'device driver' to a temporary location on your hard drive (remember it so you can go
    there later).
When you get later an error it is not called ‘Device Application Loader Wizard’ but ‘Handheld Application
Loader Wizard’ (OK… semantic…. so we muggle users should not get the proper hint ...?..…that why
they call it a wizard...I guess...Potter wake up...).
Leave your DTM as is (no reinstall required), then install the new downloaded software on your
computer via double-clicking at the filename in the location where you stored your download. This
handheld software will later update the software on your BlackBerry Wireless Handheld, e.g. Bold9780
and is the ‘glue’ between the DTM and your phone.
If you get later a ‘Handheld Application Loader Wizard’ error message search for ‘Handheld’ on the BB
support page and find my posting there.
Now it appears you have an issue with the second phone, the Bold 9650. I guess you need an
additional entry for the second phone, i.e. have to install another driver for the Bold 9650 smart phone
and the line would then read after the installation in 'Add or Remove Programs':
BlackBerry Device Software v6.0.0 for BlackBerry Bold 9650 smartphone
I am sure the DTM can sort out which driver to select according to the USB connected phone model if
    the drivers are present.
Since I am a muggle and write too much stuff (?) you wizards can have a LOL for free...

  • Bold 9650 and Opera Mini 5

    Hi, all,
I was just curious, have any of you Bold owners tried running Opera Mini 5 for Blackberry?  It ran fine on my Tour, but it does not run well on the Bold.  The trackball is super sensitive while in this program.  I have found a trackball setting of 70 and 70 is a good setting for my Bold.  However, you can turn it down all the way, and Opera is still sensitive, to a point that you can not navigate.  I just wanted to get some of your ideas.
    Doc

    Hi,
Well, Opera released an update for Opera Mini to 5.1, and it will still not run on a Bold 9650 due to trackpad issues.  I have just about given up on Opera.

  • Bold 9650 drops every call

I've had a total of 3 bold 9650s on Verizon now since last September. long story short they simply cannot complete a phone call without dropping it. I received a warranty replacement 3 days ago, I have made 3 calls with it, and every single one has dropped. I have called Verizon tech support 30 or so times and they have no solution other than to keep sending me new phones. they ask if it happens in one area, no, it happens all over the country. I was in Texas for a week in March and every single call I made or received dropped, even in major metro areas like Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and so on.
this happens while moving, the device can't hand off from one tower to another without dropping a call. I also notice most of the time when I try to use the internet, it says communication failure. sometimes it will work, but I usually have to reset the device in order to get the internet to work. any solution other than to find a different phone? I like the phone otherwise.

Thanks to SuzyQ for your input. Hello mtacconi, in meaning you had three different phones in three weeks, What specific service issues are you having? If you are still having issues, please give specific details about them for suggestions in helping you with a resolution. If the issue you are experiencing is dropped calls, please do a soft reset on your device to refresh the signals to the towers in your location. This action does not affect the data on your device and can help with a drop call issue. Here's a link to our website for providing you additional help with your BlackBerry Bold device.

  • WiFi specs for Blackberry Bold 9650

I have a BB Bold 9650 WITHOUT camera because I work on a military base. Recently, we've been told that WiFi devices are also not allowed.
The following is the guidance we've received:
    What is NOT permitted:
Any device with a camera and/or 802.11 or any WiFi capability.
    What IS permitted:
Blackberries, Bluetooth devices and cell phones with no camera and with no WiFi capability (such as Govt-issued devices) that use cellular technology like 2G, 3G or 4G.
I'm so confused as to what technology my phone uses. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks, Laurie

The Bold 9650 WiFi specs are as follows which means it is not permitted per your information. (from the Blackberry website)
    Bold 9650
    WiFi information
    802.11 b / g
I would recommend the Blackberry Tour which was the predecessor to the Bold 9650 phone based on your information.
This model does not have WiFi capability and was also available in a non-camera version  The Tour is still available on the website as a Certified Pre-Owned model.  Although I did not see see the non-camera version listed I would call Customer Service to see if they have any non-camera models in stock for sale.
FYI: Both the Tour and Bold are 2G/3G cellular smart phones.
    Good luck

  • Bold 9650 Extremely Unresponsive

I just switched to Verizon today from the evil and terrible AT&T.  I've been a crackberry user since AT&T has offered them and to me the Bold 9650 seemed like the perfect choice ( I heard awful things about the Storm 2 ).  So far, my experience with this phone is awful - the UI is insanely slow and unresponsive to the point where the phone could be considered a 10 on the glascow coma scale.
I downgraded from OS 6 thinking that was it since it also made my Bold 9700 laggy - this evidentaly was not the case as the last OS 5.0.x.x revision from VZW seems to be much of the same all be it not AS slow but still very slow.  My biggest quam?  The OS will work just fine for about five minutes or so sometimes less, sometimes more but eventually it just ceases up into a rock for ten or fifteen seconds then goes back to it's normal thing, it will continue to do this till just about nothing works quickly and the phone has to be rebooted.
Is there some solution to this or should I just grin and buy an iPhone 4 and admit RIM actually made an awful phone?

    StreetDoc,
Thanks for the answer - it's good to know my EMT jokes aren't wasted here.  I tried what you suggested and it updated the roaming, I rebooted and it does appear at least to be a little snappier now.  FWIW, the lag on this phone does only seem to occur within the first ten minutes of boot up or during periods of time when the data channel is being utilized heavily - I have found that during initial boot up of the phone turning the antenna off immediately resolves the issue.at least in the short term.
Is there some particular quirk of CDMA that causes this to occur that you're aware of and what if anything does updating the roaming profile for this handset do to fix it?  As far as I am aware, this handset is identical virtually to the 9700 Bold which this problem does not occur on and the only observation I can make is that it may or may not be affixed to CDMA.
I'd also like to add that while I initially thought it may have just been isolated to the movement of the trackpad, all functions of the phone indeed cease up including the blackberry button and the soft reset CTRL+SHIFT+DEL as well.
It also does not appear to be resolved or worsened by any particular handset software either, I have gone throughfour iterations of OS 5.x.x.x and three of 6.x.x.x and the problem is the same both ways, no worse no better.  Although 975 seems to not feature this problem at all after a while.
