GPS Maps pre-load

Can anyone tell me if there is a application that will allow me to pre-load maps for areas that I am going to visit? Doing ir 'real-time' is very long-winded.
MotionX goes some way, but I have to move to the area on the iPhone and then 'move around it' at different zooms to cache the maps. Also a nit long-winded.

Not currently but this was mentioned as a new feature available to developers with version 3.0. Wait for the keynote next week at the WWDC and you'll find out more.

  • N96 maps pre-loaded, must pay?

    Hi, I just bought this very nice and fully functional phone and just to find out that your add pricing for voice guided GPS.
    I find that any other GPS devices already have this function build-in and no price to pay for using it...
    So if I understand, you receive my position and send me the right 'Next Move' ... So you traking averyone using your services...
    If I go outside the phone service range, that paid service don't work anymore...
    I don't want that!
    I find this practice very unworthy from a company like Nokia.
    This function was one of the reason I bought this phone...
    Well I might just sent it back.
    Not happy at all.
    Richard.

    When you purchase a dedicated GPS unit, you have already paid to navigate with it. However, you will still have to pay for all future map updates, should wish to update. Map are generally updated every 6 months and updates costs £50 to £100 each time. You will also have to pay the full price for maps for every country if you wish to use it when away on holidays.
    Nokia have based their charges on a different system. The software and maps, including all updates are free to download. However, you pay a yearly fee for navigation. They also do short term licences like for a week or a month which is very handy for going away on holidays. Say if you were going to the South Africa for a 1 month holiday you could get a South African license for a month which you cannot do with a dedicated GPS.
    Having the latest maps is important as roads are constantly changing and new roads are added.
    Charges for using Nokia Maps.
    Firstly there is no charge to use nokia maps to locate you position and to download any maps you want. So all map updates are also free.
    You will however have to pay for navigation if you wish to get turn by turn instructions. There are various rates for navigation. You can buy a single country or regions (eg. western Europe) for different durations such as a week, a month, a year etc. There used to be a 3-year license but I am not sure if this is still available.
    Typical costs depending on country/region for a 1 week license is around €7.99, 1 month €8.99, 1 year €79.99 and 3 years €89.99. I got the 3 year license for Western Europe and everytime I go away on holidays I might get the 1 week or 1 month license for the region I am visiting.

    http://europe.nokia.com/A41005078
    There could also be associated network charges if you choose to go online and use AGPS when navigating. Network charges can be avoided by pre-loading your maps to your phone using the Map Loader programme and turning AGPS off.

  • How to use GPS Maps

    Hello Friends,
    I have bought a E66 phone recently, kindly inform me how do I use the GPS maps of Australia, please give a detailed instructions as I am a cave man when it comes to technology, thanks
    Ras

    Hi ras1
    Firstly was a microSD provided with your E66 which possibly could have regional maps pre-loaded but not necessarily?
    1) Assuming that you have an available microSD > 2GB inserted in E66, start Nokia Maps application which will create necessary folder structure on memory card required later. If you accept "Go-online at start up" and you have a GPRS data connection as your access point, you can zoom in and out using "+" and "#" keys and provided that bars beside satellite icon have changed from yellow > green you should see your location on map although map data may have to be downloaded if not present.
    2) You will need to download regional maps to your device using Nokia Maploader v2.0.2 application available here:
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4984199
    I am assuming that you have already downloaded Nokia PC Suite v7.0 from here: http://europe.nokia.com/pcsuite and not loaded version from CD provided with E66 which by now may be outdated.
    3) If you launch Nokia Maploader it instructs you to connect your device in default "PC Suite" mode (you should be prompted on connection if you have not altered default).
    If you get "Waiting for device" and nothing happens try connecting in "Data transfer" mode instead. You will see the various continents and need to click on to explode content.
    4) If you intend to purchase a "voice navigation" license for real-time navigation, you should also download either English(US) or English(UK) voice file as well as regional map. Without a "voice navigation" license you can see your position on map and plan journeys although map won't be orientated in direction of travel.

  • Pre-loaded Australia Map in 6110 Navigator

    Hi All,
    I have 6110 Navigator which was bought from Singapore. It came with a pre-loaded Singapore map, which isn't much use for me here in Oz so I deleted it.
    Now I have a few questions
    (1) How do I get the Australian map into this phone, as if it came pre-loaded like other 6110 Navigtor in Australia?
    (2) Where does the pre-loaded map reside? In the memory card or phone?
    (3) Do I need to pay for a licence to use the pre-loaded map?
    (4) Do I need to flash my 6110 to get it with the pre-loaded Australia map? If so how do I do that?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Ths model is sold with a licence installed for the region of purchase, you would have to buy a licence from Route 66 to use any other maps.
    You should be able to install the Australian maps from the software supplied with the phone on the DVD, and then you can activate it buying a licence to activate it through the "Extras" selection in the Options menu in the Route 66 software.

  • E90 GPS can't load map

    Hi all, my GPS Maps on E90 can not load any map, even when I already install it on the memory card. I use to have my local map installed & loaded but for unknown reason it vanished, I've redownloaded a new map from map loader but it hasn't worked, any advice please help.

    Hi, it probably has to do with the overhaul of the Maps application. It is currently being upgraded to Maps 3.0, but this version is not yet fully supported an E90.
    Could it be be that the version of Map loader you use is not compatible with the Maps version you ahve on your device?

  • GPS Maps Outside of Phone Coverage when Traveling

    *Is there anyway to download maps for your destination using a computer and then onto the iphone before you go?*
    Most people need a map when they are traveling, not in their local area.
    To download maps using the limited 3G network coverage while traveling is EXPENSIVE.
    A lot of places just do not have 3G and using 2G to download maps on the fly is SLOW & EXPENSIVE.
    Many places interesting places in the world do not have any phone coverage at all.
    So how useful is the GPS function on the iphone if you are in an area where you cannot download a map.
    Is there anyway to download maps for your destination using a computer and then onto the iphone before you go?

    Perhaps you have not done much traveling. I have.
    I am also very experienced at reading all types of maps, including
    topographical maps on land and depth contour maps and so on at sea.
    So map reading is not the problem for me.
    Actually getting good maps, that are easy to use even from guide books is
    quite difficult. It is not really convenient to have to carry a heavy
    guidebook around every where. In some places the maps from guide books
    have inadequate or incorrect coverage. In Japan or China it can be difficult to
    come to grips with the calligraphy, sometimes there just aren't any road signs.
    So a GPS map device becomes are very useful piece of kit. Unfortunately as much as I like Mac stuff and wanted the iPhone for this purpose, it is in its current
    form not very useful for travelers.
    The Nokia maps can be preloaded (so at least you can avoid expensive download costs) but the coverage is quite limited. Samsung have a new 16+16Gb GPS phone that with pre-purchased GPS maps could do the job.
    Apple could fairly easily fix the iPhone GPS software so that you can preload all the Google maps for a country before you leave. After all you generally know where you are going. If Apple was to do this then I would get the iPhone
    but until then I will keep looking for a better solution.

  • Pre-loading the cache

    I'm attempting to pre-load the cache with data and have implemented controllable caches as per this document (http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH35UG/Sample+CacheStores). My cache stores are configured as write-behind with a 2s delay:
    <cache-config>
         <caching-scheme-mapping>
         <cache-mapping>
              <cache-name>PARTY_CACHE</cache-name>
              <scheme-name>party_cache</scheme-name>
         </cache-mapping>
         </caching-scheme-mapping>
         <caching-schemes>
              <distributed-scheme>
                <scheme-name>party_cache</scheme-name>
                <service-name>partyCacheService</service-name>
                <thread-count>5</thread-count>
                <backing-map-scheme>
                    <read-write-backing-map-scheme>
                         <write-delay>2s</write-delay>
                        <internal-cache-scheme>
                            <local-scheme/>
                        </internal-cache-scheme>
                        <cachestore-scheme>
                            <class-scheme>
                                <class-name>spring-bean:partyCacheStore</class-name>
                            </class-scheme>
                        </cachestore-scheme>
                    </read-write-backing-map-scheme>
                </backing-map-scheme>
                <autostart>true</autostart>
            </distributed-scheme>
         </caching-schemes>
    </cache-config>
    public static void enable(String storeName) {
            CacheFactory.getCache(CacheNameEnum.CONTROL_CACHE.name()).put(storeName, Boolean.TRUE);
    public static void disable(String storeName) {
            CacheFactory.getCache(CacheNameEnum.CONTROL_CACHE.name()).put(storeName, Boolean.FALSE);
    public static boolean isEnabled(String storeName) {
            return ((Boolean) CacheFactory.getCache(CacheNameEnum.CONTROL_CACHE.name()).get(storeName)).booleanValue();
    public void store(Object key, Object value) {
            if (isEnabled(getStoreName())) {
                throw new UnsupportedOperationException("Store method not currently supported");
        }The problem I have is that what seems to be happening is:
    1) bulk loading process calls disable() on the cache store
    2) cache is loaded with data
    3) bulk loading process calls enable() on the cache store ready for normal operation
    4) the service thread starts to attempt to store the data as the check to see if the store is enabled returns true because we set it to true in step 3
    so is there a way of temporarily disabling the write-delay or changing it programatically so step 4 doesn't happen?

    Adding
    Thread.sleep(10000);after loading the data seems to solve the problem but this seems dirty, any better solutions?

  • Pre-loading the Cache from Database during application start-up

    We are using Spring, Hibernate, Oracle Coherence 3.5.2 Weblogic Webservices
    Our requirement is to pre-load the cache during the application start-up most probably during Authentication/Authorization Service is invoked.
    We plan to load the data for other services from database into Coherence cache so that whenever user access that particular service he ends up hitting the Cache instead of database.
    We would greatly appreciate sample code snippets on how to write CacheInitializerBean with marker to demonstrate the state of cache.

    Hi Rob,
    Thanks for pointing to the article: Pre-Loading the Cache
    In fact i already looked at that article before posting. It just mentions how to load the data from database into Cache.
    What i am looking for is how to make this happen during application start-up. This is my first hurdle.
    The second one is as mentioned in the article http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH35UG/Pre-Loading+the+Cache
    i wrote following code which never gets populated into cache. Not sure whats going wrong even though i see Hibernate loadAll() method loading all the objects in the console
    public   void populateCache() throws SQLException
        Map<Long, Object>  buffer = new HashMap<Long, Object>();
        int count = 0;
         List<Contract> contractList = this.getHibernateTemplate().loadAll(Contract.class);
         log.debug("contractList size="+contractList.size());
         for(Contract contract : contractList)
             Long key   = new Long(contract.getId());
             Object  value = contract;
             buffer.put(key, value);
             // this loads 1000 items at a time into the cache
             if ((count++ % 1000) == 0)
                  contractCache.putAll(buffer);
                 buffer.clear();
         if (!buffer.isEmpty())
              contractCache.putAll(buffer);
        }We would greatly appreciate your time in helping us resolving two hurdle blocks.

  • LocalCache - pre-load config set to true

    Hi,
    I have set the <pre-load> to true for local cache configuration. My CacheStore implements 'IterableCacheLoader'.  When I make a call to, ---
    (call 1) . NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.getCache("cacheName");
    'loadAll()' of CacheStore is invoked. 'loadAll()' returns Map which has required key-value pairs.How do I put this returned Map into NamedCache? The reason I am asking this is call1 is  made in different package from CacheStore.
    Does not loadAll() implicitly update the NamedCache?
    The requirement is to preload the data and this standalone local cache.

  • Thinking of getting an iPhone - question on the GPS map application

    Hi,
    I'm at the end of the contract on my Nokia N95 and am thinking of switching to an iPhone as the N97 doesn't really look up to scratch.
    One key deciding factor is whether the iPhone maps application can pre-load maps prior to overseas travel, so I don't have to crank up roaming data charges. The Nokia software is very good in this respect - you can pre-load, plan your routes on the phone etc. before you leave, and not use any data charges for the maps whilst you are away. Can the iPhone do this, & navigate without going on-line?
    Thanks in advance!

    No, the map application gets it's maps for google maps, which needs an Internet connection to do. There are no preloaded maps. There are turn by turn apps coming out soon that will require you to download map packs but nobody knows if they will need a network connection to work

  • Why is drum machine designer pre-loading tons of busses.... ?

    Why is drum machine designer pre-loading tons of busses.... ? Is there a way to turn off the pre mapping ? I loaded up a few presets and the routing is insane. Not simple to follow the chain and I have a huge monitor haha. Instant bog down of my computer.

    The DMD is really a preset combo of Samples and FX.....
    If you notice... the DMD 'plugin' isn't actually a 'normal' plugin even though it goes into the instrument slot...
    It doesn't have a Power button for example  and you cannot drag the DMD instrument by itself to another track's instrument slot...
    It's actually Ultrabeat running in the background... playing samples plus FX plugins on various Auxes plus a fancy front end..... to manipulate the sounds all via a very clever bit of work in the environment
    To see whats going on under the hood.. go to the Environment window.... and you will see this...
    Note: This is just one track using the DMD.....

  • Can I install Snow Leopard on the latest Macbook Pros? (the ones pre-loaded with Lion)

    The problem and solution is pretty simple, I just want to know if anyone has tried this before. I have a brand new Macbook Pro that I bought more or less for the sole purpose of having a more powerful machine to run AVID Media Composer on. AVID is only compatible up to OS version 10.6.7 at the moment, and the machine I got was pre-loaded with Lion, 10.7....So I look at the support documentation Apple provides, and notice that in the nifty little chart they have, the latest line of Macbook Pros out there (early 2011) originally had version 10.6.6, so I'm assuming that's the previous version I can't downgrade past.
    To revert back to Snow Leopard, however, I need to install it from the DVD which has version 10.6.3 on it, and then upgrade to any version between Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and Lion 10.7. In theory this could work, the only problem being that for a brief time between installing Snow Leopard and updating to the version of it that I need, the computer will have version 10.6.3 on it.
    Now I'm pretty sure if the only thing I do on the computer is immediately update to a safe-to-use version, there will be no problems. However, if the machine's hardware is so terribly non-backwards compatible with the Snow Leopard OS, I may do all this backing up and reverting and not even be able to start the computer once I get the old install on it. Before I just go ahead and try this for myself, I was wondering if anyone else has, and more importantly, have you had any success?

    Hi r,
    EDIT: disregard my post. Waiting for that disc is a far better option.
    I hope w won't mind if I add a thought here:

    Now I don't mind if some drivers are messed up and resolution is all funky when I install 10.6.3 on it, I just need to know if it'll be functional to the point where I can run the 10.6.6 update dmg. Once I update to 10.6.6 everything should work fine.
    Or could I install 10.6.3, have the 10.6.6 update burned to a disc, and boot straight from that? This is my first Mac so I'm not sure what little tricks work or not.
    Your first idea may work; the only way to know for sure is to try it. If you do, make sure you download and run the Combo update for 10.6.7 or 10.6.8. There can be different versions of a point update, those which are available for download, and those which ship on Macs, so you want to install one beyond that which shipped with some of the new MBPs.
    If the MBP won't boot to 10.6.3, something else to try is installing it to an external HD, then installing the 10.6.7 update on it, clone it to the MPB's internal HD, and run the 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Combo update on it.
