GPS not working in IOS6 when installed on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4?

Can somebody confirm that GPS location data (not from cell or wifi) is no longer functioning in IOS6 when installed on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4?

I have the same issue exept my phone doesn't ring for incoming calls. I've tried every fix, restored the phone and spent over an hour on the phone with Apple Care doing a second restore. The supervisor told me that he hadn't heard of the issue at all and came to the conclusion that I'd somehow broken the silent switch and that I'd have to pay $150 to have it repaired, despite my insistance that it was obviously a software issue since the problem started immediately after I updated to iOS 6. Total BS. I want this issue resolved immediately considering that the phone is virtually useless to me if I have to carry it around and continually check for notifications and incoming texts, phone calls, etc.

  • MMS not working in iPhone4S when installing config profile with APN

When we use the iPhone Configuration Utility (either the latest version or previous versions) to create a config profile with APN info, then install the profile to an iPhone4S, we noticed that MMS (multimedia messaging) was no longer working. This means we could not send or receive MMS messages. And this is MMS going over the MMS protocol (and not iMessage). We had not seen this before. We routinely do config profiles with APN info and have done for all iPhone models and iOS version before the new iPhone4S. Never had a problem with MMS or anything else. This is for iPhone4S devices in the AT&T network. It is easy to reproduce and you don't need an enterprise APN for that. In fact just a config profile with AT&T's APN settings will still break MMS when installed (other than the MMS, everything else works fine).
It does not appear an iOS 5 issue. iPhone4 (or iPhone3GS) with iOS 5 do not have this problem. It appears to be tied to the new iPhone4S hardware. The same configuration profile (with the APN info) works fine on iPhone4 with iOS 5 (MMS works fine), but when you put the very same configuration profile to an iPhone4S, MMS quits working.
Doing a network reset does not solve the problem. Only removing the profile fixes the MMS
    Any ideas, explanations or workarounds?

I called the Apple care line, and eventually got to 4th tier support, where they declared that there must be an issue with the APN I'm using, regardless of the fact that none of the iPhone 3G, 3GS', and 4's in our office are experiencing this issue while using the same APN.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised about this, afterall who'd expect Apple to actually admit there's a "bug" in one of their products, especially since this is hapenning to a very small number of users on the 4S.  Getting to 4th tier support was free, but to be able to talk to someone who can actually investigate this issue will cost $700.
I offered to give them access to our private APN for testing, but they were "unable to do that sort of testing".  Additionally, we have tested using a public APN from AT&T (wap.cingular), and still experience the same issue.
Lastly,  I did some further digging, and I think it has something to do with PDP Context 2 not getting an IP address.  As a disclaimer, I have no clue what a PDP Context is, what it does, what it's for, but obviously MMS needs it.  Going into field test mode on the phone will allow you to see the PDP Contexts, and is where I got this info from.
On the iPhone 4S, without an APN profile installed, the PDP Contexts are listed 0-3.  These 4 contexts have values for an APN, and an IPv4 address, although context 0 and 2 are the only ones that have values in them.
When an APN profile isnt installed, MMS' can be sent, cellular internet doesn't work., the values are:
    Context 0
    IPv4:    ip is blank
APN:   phone (this is the default APN for the iphone 4s on att).
    Context 2
IPv4:     has a valid public IP address
    APN:     wap.cingular
When an APN profile is installed, MMS's can't be sent, but cellular internet does work, the values are:
    Context 0:
IPv4:     Valid public IP address is present
    APN:     Our enterprise APN
    Context 2:
    IPv4:     ip is  blank.
    APN:     wap.cingular
It appears that when Context 2 has an IP address, MMS' are able to be sent.  One other interesting fact, on the iPhone 4, only 1 PDP Context is listed, while the 4S has 4 listed.
Hopefully this issue will be resolved in the 5.1 update, as this update contains a baseband update for the 4S, updating it from 1.0.14 to 1.2.01-1.  Unfortunately I don't have access to a 5.1 beta, otherwise I'd test this my self.  If anyone has access to the beta, and wants to test APN profiles/MMS send status, we'd greatly appreciate it!

    ACTIVATING FACETIME AND IMESSAGES
Activating Facetime and Imessages on your phone requires the ability to send SMS messages and depending upon where you are that might be an international SMS.  Check with your carrier to see if your plan supports sending of international SMS messages.  If you are having trouble activating Facetime or Imessages turn them both off on your device and reset the device (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost)).  Wait for the device to restart and wait a minute and turn Facetime and imessage back on and wait for activation.  If that does not fix things read the following articles:

  • Myi iphone4  microphone not working and the home button not work after IOS6 updat

Myi iphone4  microphone not working and the home button not work after IOS6 updat

Did you try another restore and this time not to restore from a backup and see if that makes a difference? This is what Apple would tell you to do next based on my iphone 5 fiasco.
Make sure all your data is available on your computer for manual syncing later.
Since you did the hard reset I assume that means your home button isn't broken only that it got frozen before. Were you able to get the Apple logo after the reset? Did it boot?
And you are using iTunes 10.7?
I'm just trying to help get you going.

  • I bought the Keynote app for my MacBook, but when I open the application and try to install it, I get an error message saying that the application will not work with my MacBook. What gives? And, can I please request a refund? ($19.99 = a week's groceries)

I bought the Keynote app for my MacBook, but when I open the application and try to install it, I get an error message saying that the application will not work with my MacBook. What gives? And, can I please request a refund? ($19.99 = a week's groceries).
Thank you for your help! - I did try looking for all available specs about Keynote on the Apple iTunes website, and found nothing that could help me. HELP!

    1
    Close all iWork applications
    2
Uninstall Keynote; this must be done with an application remover tool to delete the installation properly. Appcleaner is known to work correctly for this purpose, it is free and can be downloaded from here: Appcleaner Download
    3
    empty the trash
    4
shutdown the Mac and restart. After the start up chime, hold down the shift key until the apple logo appears
let the Mac complete the start up procedure completely, it will take longer than usual as the hard drive is being repaired
    5
Reinstall Keynote by logging into the Mac App Store using download / install

Certain apps will not work after ios6 update. Tiger Woods golf will run for about 5 seconds and stop. Have uninstalled/re-installed to no avail.

My husband had the same problem with some apps after I updated his iPad 2 to iOS 5.  I checked the app store and there were updates for the apps to support the new software.  After updating, all apps work just fine.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • 1 Solution for Match not working in iOS6

After upgrading to iOS6 on my iPad (3rd Gen) and iPhone 4S, I lost all access to my music on those devices. When attempting to play a song, the track info lacked a name and the time length of the song would read as 0:00
Looking in Settings > Music or Settings > iTunes and App Store you will see a switch that says iTunes Match is off. You can turn either one on but after a few seconds it will turn itself off again.
Hard resetting the phone or restoring from back up may have no effect at all.
If all this has happened to you, like me, my iTunes Match has been fixed with something very simple.
    Solution:
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then select Reset All Settings.
Your content will remain on the phone, you'll just have to change your preferences back to what they were and input WiFi passwords again. Most importantly, you should be able to to turn those iTunes Match switches on without them turning back on again!

A little update, please keep in mind that I have no idea what I'm doing, I guess you could call it learning by doing
When I started my laptop this morning, I discovered that Bluetooth was no longer working.
After blindly trying different things, I think that Bluetooth only works if I boot Windows (dual boot) and then restart into Arch. Also the laptop doesn't wake up after suspend anymore. My theory is that maybe somehow Windows "activates" the Bluetooth and therefore Arch is able to correctly identify it and load the correct drivers. By suspending the laptop the BT (along with everything else) gets deactivated and can not correctly be activated again (just like when booting directly into Arch).
The error when it doesn't work is the usual timed out error after executing 'hciconfig hci0 up'. Also I have a hci0 and a dell-bluetooth device now, and I don't really know where that's coming from.
Furthermore, the way I installed the driver was probably very stupid. Either I think the manual 'make install' was not correct and/or dkms is not really necessary then, because 'dkms install /path/to/source' says it is already installed. Anyway, with both methods it does not work all the time, as I said maybe only after having booted into Windows.
    Any comments much appreciated

  • IPhone 6 location services/gps not working

Anyone else have an issue with iPhone 6 location services/gps not working? I have had it happen to me twice where it stopped working for good 7 or 8 hours and then all of sudden it starts working again. For example, directions don't work, every time I open Apple Maps it will say "Cannot determine location", then when I press the location icon on the bottom left, it will try to search again and have an approximate location but not exact, where as the iPad that I have right next to it is able to pin point the exact location. Sometimes the location circle is pulsing blue sometimes its gray. If I am driving and have tracking on it won't track, and so on.  I have tried to setup the phone as new without restoring the backup, when it stopped working with no luck, it still didn't work. I went and restore it back from backup and few hours later it started to work again. This has happened twice now since I got the phone last Friday.

Check your "Privacy" settings on your iPhone see what apps are using your location.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
That is more than quicktime and iTunes.  Follow all the instruction in the link for removing and reinstalling the Apple software.

  • IPhone GPS not working in foreign countries...why?

    Hello,
I have encountered an issue with both my iPhone 3GS and my wife's 3G (mentioning that so I'm pretty sure it's no a specific unit's issue).
Whenevr I travel abroad, whether it's Europe or, say, Central America, the GPS function does not work. This is the case whether I have the plane in Airplane Mode or not. I can make calls etc. through the foreign carrier when I'm connected to the cell network. Data roaming is OFF, but I didn't think that was necessary for GPS. Basically, what happens is I open google maps, and try to locate myself, and it thinks about it for a while, and then tells me it cannot determine my location. Oh yeah, also tried when on Wi-Fi and still no GPS. I don't want to enable data roaming but, again, I didn't think that was necessary for the GPS function. What am I missing?
    Thanks
    GC

Where to begin: Quoted from a GPS Manufacture:
Factors that can degrade the GPS signal and thus affect accuracy include the following:
    * Ionosphere and troposphere delays — The satellite signal slows as it passes through the atmosphere. The GPS system uses a built-in model that calculates an average amount of delay to partially correct for this type of error.
    * Signal multipath — This occurs when the GPS signal is reflected off objects such as tall buildings or large rock surfaces before it reaches the receiver. This increases the travel time of the signal, thereby causing errors.
    * Receiver clock errors — A receiver's built-in clock is not as accurate as the atomic clocks onboard the GPS satellites. Therefore, it may have very slight timing errors.
    * Orbital errors — Also known as ephemeris errors, these are inaccuracies of the satellite's reported location.
    * Number of satellites visible — The more satellites a GPS receiver can "see," the better the accuracy. Buildings, terrain, electronic interference, or sometimes even dense foliage can block signal reception, causing position errors or possibly no position reading at all. GPS units typically will not work indoors, underwater or underground.
    * Satellite geometry/shading — This refers to the relative position of the satellites at any given time. Ideal satellite geometry exists when the satellites are located at wide angles relative to each other. Poor geometry results when the satellites are located in a line or in a tight grouping.
    * Intentional degradation of the satellite signal — Selective Availability (SA) is an intentional degradation of the signal once imposed by the U.S. Department of Defense. SA was intended to prevent military adversaries from using the highly accurate GPS signals. The government turned off SA in May 2000, which significantly improved the accuracy of civilian GPS receivers.
