  • 8520 + BT-GPS = location fixed but BBW wont let me download app for GPS?

OK, I have a bb curve 8520 and am trying to get "GPSLogger ii" as GPSLogger the original says it is no good for my version of OS(5.0). However, when I try getting GPSLogger ii from BBW apps it says it is unavailable for my device, as does most other GPS apps. WHY? And how can I get this app to install from elsewhere?
    Thanks
    Larry

Blackberry Curve 8520 doesn't have the GPS functionality. Sorry

  • Connecting 8520 to external GPS

    Hi!
I've seen a few other messages about my problem, but I still don't know how to solve it.
I have a BB Curve 8520. I want to use a running app and because the 8520 doesn't have a GPS, I bought an external one; B Speech keychain GPS.
My BB can find the gps en it shows that they are connected, but when I use the navigation on BB maps of MapMyRun there is no connection.
    Please help me!!

I've used the Freedom Mini GPS dongle with success, it works.
i don't know about your model. Is it compatible with BlackBerry?

  • 8520 Upgraded to OS 6, now can't turn on GPS or Location

My 8520 Upgraded to OS 6, now can't turn on GPS or Location.  Poynt and other Aps were working and would find current location, but this stopped. The GPS and location options won't let me change them.

    SamRichards wrote:
I know it sounds unbelievable but it is true.
if you have installed OS6 on your 8520, then it can only be a pirate OS.
RIM as never published OS6 for that model.
I strongly advise you to uninstall it. Who knows what is in your device right now ! a program to spy on you and track your conversation, a program that will log all your passwords, a program that will take pictures without you knowing, and so on.

yes that is to be expected, because the 8520 does not have a GPS antenna. The behavior you are stating is the same for all 8520 models in the world.

  • I cannot connect BB 8520 with external GPS Holux via Bluetooth. Please Help!

I've bought a M1200 HOLUX gps and I'm trying to sincronize it with a Blackberry Curve 8520. The problem is:
    - BB finds correctly M1200 via bluetooth, and sincronizes well with the the PIN
    - M1200 Holux appears in bold just a few seconds after sincronization.
    - But then, M1200 appears only in plain text (not bold) as it's not connected. In the BB options, it doesn't appear the option "Connect" as with the rest of bluetooth devices.
I've tried several times but always happen the same. M1200 is not able to keep the bt connection.
    Could you please help me?
    Thanks in advance

  • 8520 GPS problems etc.

    Hey
O.K so i've done alot of searching to try and figure this problem out myself but no where seems to come to a solution. I understand that the 8520 does not come with a GPS. Howcome before I updated to OS 5 from 4 I could use apps that knew where I was? Now such apps stick me in places like mexico and the blackberry maps just can't pin point where I am, where as before it did. Is there a way to fix this or am to just downgrade? so far it's been alot more hassel that it's worth upgrading!!

It doesn't have GPS.. The word A-GPS using cell-site triangulation ...Use Google Maps it will still tell you where are you!!!! Mark this answer as complete and let me know

  • Does Curve 8520 have GPS

I have a pink Curve 8250 the software has been updated and the faceook apt has been updated. However it wont let me log into facebook places it comes up with a message saying no GPS support. Iv been told many different stories about why this has happened. My network provider has told me its because its  there software in the phone and it  doesn't support this whist other networks do. The shop I bought the phone from has told me that this type of phone does not have GPS. I've also been told by the  shop I bought it from that I need to update the software but then I updated the software and now there telling me I shouldn't of done this as my phone doesn't work properly with this software. To add even more confusion my friend has the exact same phone only in Purple and with a different network but still a curve 8520 and they can use facebook places.
I would really appreciate if someone could give me an answer to if my phone does have GPS and why some phones work and others don't?

Thanks a lot for answering really appreciate it.  Your the first straight yes or no answer I've had.

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 - GPS/Location Settings Help

    Hi All
I had this working the other day and on 'location setttings' it had my gps point with longitude/latitude and all that malarky, and I was able to check in using facebook places. I turned my bluetooth off an then when I went back into location settings the GPS part had dissapeared and GPS data source now says 'None' and Location Services so says 'Location Off' and you CANNOT change these 2 options
Whats going on? It was working the other day?
Thanks in advance for any help
    Chris

Correct, no 8520 has built in GPS.
Either you never had it, or you were connected a GPS receiver somewhere.

  • BB Curve 8520 GPS

I cant seem to find my gps option, ive gone into advance options and its not there.
Im trying to get my check in back on facebook and told the gps option would fix this.
Can any 1 tell me how to get it or an easier way to get check in back?
    Thanks

    hello,
what do you mean by "check in"?
It's "Places" in the new Facebook version from a few months ago.
But still, there is no GPS on the 8520 model, sorry.
You could be locating yourself by cell tower triangulation, which gives a broader, like 2000 meter area, but not by GPS.

  • 8520 GPS settings

    Hi there.
I read on the posts that the 8520 doesn't have GPS, but why would they have GPS under the options? How do I activate it when there are no other options except None and Location Off.
    thanx in advance.
P.S. What is the dongle u guys are talking about?

The 8520 does not have GPS built in, you can however buy a bluetooth GPS receiver to connect to your phone to use GPS features.

  • Location settings/GPS can't change the options - used to be able to!

I've read another thread with the same problem and people are saying you must've been connected to something with GPS - I haven't, nobody in my house has a phone or anything else that connects to GPS so it's not possible.
I was trying to get this new Facebook Places working and did something that seemed to work for a few 8520 users - Update the OS through the Desktop Software. I updated to the latest one and when I go Options > Advanced Options > Location Settings (It used to be GPS Settings or something similar, not Location Settings) I used to get GPS none and be able to switch my Location Services off and on. Since updating, I only get GPS none and Location Services off, no option to change either.
BB Maps used to find my location fine, Foursquare was good at finding very nearby locations so it must work using something other than GPS.  I've updated everything only to try and get bloody FB Places working and it's not even worth it, I can't even use BB Maps now!
Is there anything I can do? I've tried re-installing maps and Foursquare but neither can find my location anymore so I believe it was something to do with the update.

The Curve 8520 does not have GPS so that's where the problem lies.
I hope that clears things up.

  • GPS/maps

I have a BB 8520....I really like it (Ihad the TAP)  BUT it does not have the GPS navigation feature. I was told it was not supported. I would have to get the BB 9700 or 8900. I really do not want to change. Can I get a recommendation for an application I can download for that sole purpose of mapping my journeys. I get lose all the time!!!!

GPS is a hardware and 8520 doesn't come with that feature. However, if you're interested with mapping application then try http://www.google.com/gmm.

  • Web & GPS

I have registered to use GPRS on my BlackBerry Curve 8520. I got a message to say the device is registered. However, my phone won't allow me to use my browser or Facebook & Twitter applications using my carrier's internet service. I am with meteor (Ireland). Also, When I go to check in on facebook. It tells me "No GPS Support. Your device does not support locations services." PLEASE HELP me! I rang my provider. They said it is a problem they can't fix...

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
Start with this...I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
That may or may not help...given what your provider says, it is possible that they do not even provide data plans that are adequate to enable the services you desire. See this for generic information:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F
You need that last level of data plan...a full BB-level data plan that includes BlackBerry Internet Service. If your provider does not have those, then you are indeed out of luck as the only fix is to use a different provider (one that does sell BIS-level plans).
    Good luck!
