GPS on Droid X

Since I got my Droid X, I have been having trouble with the GPS not working.  When I had the Droid 2 my GPS would come up with an arrow, following my every move in the car.  It would even talk to me.  Now that I have this Droid X the bottom always says "Locating GPS" and at the top it says "Follow Directions".  Of course I took it into the Verizon store and you know what they said, "It is suppose to be like that, it's updating constantly.  As someone who does not know about the Droid, I said ok and walked out the store.  Of course I was upset but what could I do.  Does anyone know why the GPS does not work like it should.  I am falling behind on my Geocaching.  Thanks.

There is a problem within the GPS or navigation with the Droid X.  In my case I have had to return the unit twice to the store due to the fact you will type in an address, it starts to track and then it goes blank with a black screen.  There is something within the navigation program that conflicts with the Droid X.  I have to use my GPS 8 to 10 times a day.  It is really frustrating when you are going to a location to have the screen black out and then have to restart the unit.  The techo nerds are more concerned with the games on the system then to actually fix something that you will use for legitimate purposes.  VZW its time that you look into the problem, everyone has spent a great deal of money on these phones and it would be nice to have them working properly without all of the headaches

  • No GPS on DROID Charge After Update (ED2)

I've had my DROID Charge for over two weeks now.  I won it in the DROID Landing scavenger hunt.  The GPS has been on par with other Samsung Galaxy S phones.  It's slow to lock, but it works well after it does.
After the device came out, Verizon pushed an update (ED2).  According to the documentation I've read, it only affected Samsung Media Hub.  I'm not really a Media Hub user, so I wasn't going to be affected by the 'downgrade' in functionality.
However, since the update, my GPS no longer locks.  I can be standing outside, clear skys, and I'm only ever shown at the cell tower level on Google Maps; A big blude circle, near my location.  It never hones in closer than that.
I've tried rebooting the phone, clearing the GPS Cache (with the GPS Status app http://j.mp/iijkwk), and redownloading the aGPS data, with the same app.
One time today, while walking to the coffee shop, my GPS locked on.  Other than that, nothing.
Has anyone else seen this issue?  Any more suggestions to fix, or at least put a band-aid on it?
    Thanks
    Breon

I understand your frustration because Vz Navigator is a great feature that many users depend on when traveling. Since you have cleared the Cache, rebooted, and you've downloaded the app again, I would try a few other steps. Ensure the Gps location is on and the Location Based services have the proper settings. You can use the directions below:
    GPS steps:
From the home screen, select Applications.
    Select Settings.
    Select Location & security.
    Select Standalone GPS services.
Enabled when a orange check mark is present.
If presented, review the disclaimer then select Agree.
     Location Based Services instructions:
Navigate to the http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/index.html website, enter the 10-digit mobile number and password then click Sign In.
To register, click Register then follow the step-by-step instructions.
    Click My Service > Navigator.
    Click Manage Online.
Click Settings (upper-right corner, above the map).
Click Privacy Settings (under End User License and Privacy Settings).
Select a privacy setting then click Save.
    Click OK.

  • Does rezound have GPS

I am thinking of switching from a droid x to a rezound.
when i used GPS on droid x, it would ask if i wanted to use navigation or VZ navigator. navigation was free, I believe VZ navigator is a service you have to pay for.
I could also use google maps to star a location, the have GPS take me there.
can i do all this on the rezound? GPS, free navigation, google maps?
    thanks.

google nav (google maps) is pretty much free and standard on every android device out there
you can do that just fine on your rezound

  • GPS signal lost on Droid X - no reception

I've had a working Droid X for just over 30 days and suddenly the GPS will not receive a signal and lock.  I have downloaded both GPS Status and GPS Test applications AFTER the issue started.  Both apps show that I am not seeing any satellites.  I've removed applications installed in the week before the failure, powered down and removed the battery, all the basics with no success.  Before I hard-reset and lose most of my settings, does anyone have any suggestions or had this issue?
aGPS or cell tower triangluation works spotty at best.
Customer service wants to replace my new phone with a recertified (USED) phone.
    Thanks.

Updated: Spoke to tech support for an hour who confirmed I tried all the right tests on my own previously.  They contacted Motorola who does not know of any issues with the GPS sensor.  Customer service contacted my VZ store to see if they would extend a courtesy exchange for a new one as VZ will not.  No luck.  Expecting a recert phone this Friday.  Not happy.
Would love to know if anyone else has a GPS sensor failure.

  • My Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix nor a 4G signal

For the past couple of months my Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix or a 4G LTE signal. I've tried the following:
    1. Downloaded and ran GPS Status to attempt to get a fix and clear the GPS data.
    2. Start up in Safe Mode.
    3. Check for Software Updates.
    4. Re-seated SIM card.
Before I'm forced to do a full factory reset (not even sure that will fix it), is there anything else I can do to see how to get either or both of these functions working again? Thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply Ruth!
I don't recall any major changes a couple of months ago.
I checked Network Mode and it was set to "Global". I switched it over to LTE/CDMA but still only get 3G.
The GPS issue seems to affect all apps that use it. I initially noticed the problem using the navigation tool on Maps (by Google). I've also been able to get a fix using Waze, GPS Test and GPS Status & Toolbox.
In Settings>Location I have set to ON and the following
    E911 Only
    Mode: High accuracy
    Location Services: Google Location Reporting

  • Droid 3 GPS broken?

My Droid 3 GPS suddenly stopped working about a month ago.  I have data and can use other data applications, I've restarted my phone numerous times, removed the battery, turned data on and off again, and yes, I'm sure that it's enabled.  Any ideas?  I've had the device since October, 2011 and it's pretty disappointing that the GPS has crapped out on me so soon.

    Hi FBrown,
I see how a failing GPS feature can be frustrating when relying on it to get to a specific place. By reading your post I see that this GPS failure can be attributed to a loss of data signal somewhere along your trip. Additionally, when checking in with the FourSquare application (or any similar application) GPS may fail particularly indoors as some structural properties may greatly impact wireless signal. The GPS behavior described in your post may be normal depending on location and wireless signal strength.
I checked my resources and I was not able to locate any similar issues reported. However, I would recommend running your Droid 3 in Safe Mode next time you use your Google Maps navigation application and/or your FourSquare application. Running your phone in Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is causing the GPS feature to fail.
If the GPS issue is resolved while in Safe Mode, you must identify the conflicting 3rd application and remove it. You may need to remove all 3rd applications and re-install one by one in order to identify the application causing the issue.

  • Droid eris gps app

is there a good free gps app for the droid eris?

With the 2.1 upgrade, google maps has built-in GPS nav. Is that not what you are looking for?

  • Droid 3 GPS issues

Over the past month or so, the GPS on my Droid 3 has been acting funny.  Examples:  using Google Maps, it will sometimes not find the GPS signal (yes, I'm outside).  In other times, like yesterday, it worked fine but about 35 minutes into the drive, the GPS signal was lost.  I tried turnign the GPS on and off but I eventually had to re-start the phone.  It happened again on the drive home.  Using Foursquare, sometimes the GPs will not respond when I hit the "check-in" button.  Yes the GPS is on.
Because the GPS works some of the time and after re-starting the phone, that it is likely a software issue.  It seems othere have had this issue.  Is there a solution?
    Thanks

  • Droid DNA GPS stopped working, no satelites locking, and phone keeps searching for new software update.

    Droid DNA running version 4.4.2
Google maps says GPS signal lost and GPS software shows that there are no active satellites located.
Thinking that it was a bug in the software I had the phone check for software updates and it is now stuck with the message "checking for new software for your HTC HTC6435LVW". Phone still works but the message keeps reappearing.
I have powered the phone off, removed the sim card, reinserted the sim card and powered the phone back up but that did not help.   What next?

Never fear, help is here Citadel_1974! I would be delighted to help out today. Have you attempted to process a full restore/reset on the device? If not, please complete and reconnect with us on the outcome. We look forward to hearing from you soon, thanks!

  • Droid 2 Global crashes when GPS utilized

I recieved my Droid 2 Global last week and from the first day it would give me a black screen if I had GPS on and used a program that used the GPS signal.  The weather widget, google maps, and even going to google.com from the browser will cause the phone to lock up and reboot.  If I disable GPS it doesn't ever seem to crash but as soon as I turn it on and go to google or other app that uses location the phone reboots.  I have rebooted it in safe mode and it still continues to crash is GPS is used.
Doing a search on Droid 2 Crashes with GPS turned up a number of people with the same problem but I hadn't seen anyone with definitive answer as to how to fix the problem.  I can't call tech support because my cell is the only phone I have access to and you can't tech support the phone while you're talking to VZ on it.

You can also get support by taking phone into a store for assistance.  I have provided a link for our store locator below:

  • My old droid offered turn by turn directions just like a GPS nav system. I can't find that feature on the 4s, does it exist?

It seems that the 4s does not offer GPS style navigation with turn by turn directions and alerts when approaching waypoints. Am I missing something or is this a case of needing to purchase a separate app? If the latter is the case, that becomes a strike for this phone (so far the only thing I can say is lacking)

You can get this functionallity with the Maps app but it
is pretty basic and requires an internet connection,
pretty much what the NAV option on Google Maps
on Androids does.  And like on the Android, it doesn't
    automatically recalculate the route.
There are several different apps available at the app
store with a very wide range of price.  Some rely on
an internet connection at all times for maps, some do initial
route downloads but require internet if a detour is encountered,
    and others download complete maps.
Personally I have downloaded the Garmin USA system
and it works quite well and is pretty much the same experience
as using a dedicated Garmin GPS.
There is a catagory Navigation in the app store.  Browse to your
    hearts content.

  • I have a Droid Razr that loses it's GPS signal. I am unable to navigate using Google Maps. It is almost like I am missing a file. How can I fix this?

Please tell me how to get my GPS signal back on my phone. Thanks.

And they do offer a compatible version. As I am running running Netflix on my first generation iPad just fine.
You'll need to first "purchase" the non compatible version  either on a newer device that can run it or on a computer running iTunes using the Apple ID that is on the first Gen iPad.
After that is done, you should be able to go into the App Store App, and find Netflix under the Purchased Tab. Tap on it to download it and you should be warned its not compatible, but will be offered the compatible version.

  • How do I use GPS when out of range of cell towers, wifi, and bluetooth?

Recently, I encountered the following problem using my RAZR MAXX as an offline GPS device.  I was in the Colorado back country trying to track my path with downloaded Topo maps, and found that the GPS was not responding to my app.  When I looked at the app's satellite tracker screen, it showed some satellites, but no fixes.  After some fumbling around, I found that, when I enabled cell tower communication by disabling Airplane mode, many more satellites showed up.  After a moment, fixes showed up, and the app was able to locate me and track my path.  This was IN SPITE OF the fact that the Droid never found a cell tower!
I also found that I had to keep the Droid out of Airplane mode, searching for service, in order for the GPS app to continue tracking.  Any time that I put it in Airplane mode to disable service searching, the app's ability to detect satellites slowly degraded.  After several seconds, it could no longer detect or fix on any satellites at all!!  In order to restore the app's GPS tracking ability, I had to enable cell tower searching by disabling Airplane mode again.
Now, my question is, of course, is this the normal operation of a RAZR MAXX on Verizon?  It would seem to me self-defeating to offer a functionality that only works when the Droid is draining the battery in attempts to contact non-existent cell towers.  Is this truly the intended operation?  Please tell me, so that I can either get my Droid fixed or pursue other ways of GPS tracking in back country.  Thank you.
    Model: DROID RAZR MAXX

NEVER MIND!!!  The app I was using was BackCountry.  May Need GPS Airtime! This app may need GPS Airtime to function properly on Droids. Please bundle GPS Airtime with the paid version of Backcountry. Had I but know this, I would not have posted on Verizon my question about Airplane mode and GPS functioning, and would have saved time on my recent trip to Colorado back country. As it was, I had to discover the Airplane mode/GPS relationship on my own. PS: App works great on my RAZR MAXX, now that I have GPS Airtime and doesn't work for sour apples without it.
HOWEVER, Verizon, what are you going to do to fix this?  I'd still like to know that.

  • LG Ally text message and gps problems

hello. ive been with verizon for about 10 years maybe. ive been overall happy with the service and customer service. but the prices should be alot lower.lol. i started out with the motorolas then switched to the lg phones. only problem with the motorola was the speakers. not loud enough. could never hear the phone ring. the lgs usually suffer from the same problem.
i had a few phone problems but nothing like this lg ally. im on my second one and about to be my 3rd one in about 3 months. 1st phone i had every problem under the sun. this phone i am suffering from text message problems and gps problems. i suffer from what everyone else has problems with. the messages wont send. they will eventually lock up. it will show the envelope with the red explanation point ( i think thats the graphic). then usually everytime when i sent a text the texts will close. it will send then bounce back and show up as a draft and i have to resend it and wait for it to go thru. finally the last problem with the texts. when i send a text a phone number from my contacts shows up and freezes on the screen. its in white text with a black background. its the same number every time. it stays on the screen until i restart or pull my battery out.
gps. when i open up google gps that comes with the phone i make sure the gps is on... when the directions are found and the map pops up 9 out of 10 times it just keeps saying searching for gps. the turn by turn never is found. the 1 time it does it takes a good 10 minutes to be found. atleast on my first one ally the gps did work 8 out of 10 times. it just took a good 5-10 minutes for gps to be found and show turn by turn.
anyone else have these problems? where you able to fix them or did you need to get a new phone? the 2.1 update was supposed to fix problems. i think they just made it worse. the ally is supposed to have 2.2 froyo. where is it. is it ever going to get it. i got this phone because i like the lgs and the keyboard. also the sales representative on the phone was giving the lg ally rave reviews. why couldnt he say dont buy this go with a motorola droid. this phone is the biggest junk ever made

I do apologize you are having trouble with your device I looked in our information system on the LG Ally in reguards to issues you are having it states if you have the Free Droid Security anti virus protection application down loaded it will cause the phone to lock up or freeze. Check and make sure you do not have the application on your device. Check you GPS settings and make sure correct. Go to Settings; Location & Security; make sure GPS is on wireless network. If this does not fix issue you can try doing a Master Reset on your device. Make sure your contacts are saved in your G-mail account or through Back Up Assistance.

    Factory Reset option 1
From the main screen, touch menu tab

System and application data and settings
    Downloaded Applications
It will not erase: Current System software and bundled applications; SD Card files, such as music or Photos
Factory Reset option 2  - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
    Turn off the phone
Press and hold "home" + "end" + "volume up or down" keys together for a few seconds when the device is power off
Once device displays boot information, release keys.
    Soft Reset
