GPS Problem?

Hi im new here. I tried to email nokia via the site but no joy. I previously had a N95-1 which the gps worked but had a screen problem so had to get a replacement. So anyway new contract i get another N95-1 it was T-Mobile branded v12 i tested GPS and no matter what it woudlnt get a lock hmmmm went back into T-Mobile shop and exchanged it for another N95-1 i get the same problem no matter how hard i try outdoors on the garage roof leave nokia maps overnight on the window i can get a lock ive tried it in 3 different locations and am unable to get a lock and find where i am. I was told to do a update to V20 and this could possibly solve my problem but it has not. So can anybody help? T-Mobile wont let me cancel my contract because they say the phone is functional bar the GPS and if i want to exhcange handset they will only other me another make/model not another N95-1
Phone - Nokia N95-1

i have access to the net etc via my handset if thats what you mean? My first N95-1 was fine which was T-Mobile also. I have tried without A-GPS still the same and without network based. It changes the numbers in sat data just doesnt want to get a signal it does however get 1 full white bar but then get bored of waiting but sometimes it just says no sat data Also just to add i have the UK maps allready installed and have tried a firmware reflash, hard reset, updated maps and tried without the maps loaded onto my micro sd.

  • LG Ally text message and gps problems

hello. ive been with verizon for about 10 years maybe. ive been overall happy with the service and customer service. but the prices should be alot lower.lol. i started out with the motorolas then switched to the lg phones. only problem with the motorola was the speakers. not loud enough. could never hear the phone ring. the lgs usually suffer from the same problem.
i had a few phone problems but nothing like this lg ally. im on my second one and about to be my 3rd one in about 3 months. 1st phone i had every problem under the sun. this phone i am suffering from text message problems and gps problems. i suffer from what everyone else has problems with. the messages wont send. they will eventually lock up. it will show the envelope with the red explanation point ( i think thats the graphic). then usually everytime when i sent a text the texts will close. it will send then bounce back and show up as a draft and i have to resend it and wait for it to go thru. finally the last problem with the texts. when i send a text a phone number from my contacts shows up and freezes on the screen. its in white text with a black background. its the same number every time. it stays on the screen until i restart or pull my battery out.
gps. when i open up google gps that comes with the phone i make sure the gps is on... when the directions are found and the map pops up 9 out of 10 times it just keeps saying searching for gps. the turn by turn never is found. the 1 time it does it takes a good 10 minutes to be found. atleast on my first one ally the gps did work 8 out of 10 times. it just took a good 5-10 minutes for gps to be found and show turn by turn.
anyone else have these problems? where you able to fix them or did you need to get a new phone? the 2.1 update was supposed to fix problems. i think they just made it worse. the ally is supposed to have 2.2 froyo. where is it. is it ever going to get it. i got this phone because i like the lgs and the keyboard. also the sales representative on the phone was giving the lg ally rave reviews. why couldnt he say dont buy this go with a motorola droid. this phone is the biggest junk ever made

I do apologize you are having trouble with your device I looked in our information system on the LG Ally in reguards to issues you are having it states if you have the Free Droid Security anti virus protection application down loaded it will cause the phone to lock up or freeze. Check and make sure you do not have the application on your device. Check you GPS settings and make sure correct. Go to Settings; Location & Security; make sure GPS is on wireless network. If this does not fix issue you can try doing a Master Reset on your device. Make sure your contacts are saved in your G-mail account or through Back Up Assistance.
    Master Reset/Soft Reset:
    Factory Reset option 1
From the main screen, touch menu tab
    Touch Settings
    Touch Privacy
    Touch Factory Data reset
    Touch Reset Phone
Warning: This will erase all data from your phone, including:
    Your Google account
System and application data and settings
    Downloaded Applications
It will not erase: Current System software and bundled applications; SD Card files, such as music or Photos
Factory Reset option 2  - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
    Turn off the phone
Press and hold "home" + "end" + "volume up or down" keys together for a few seconds when the device is power off
Once device displays boot information, release keys.
    Soft Reset
    Press the Power key.
    Touch Power off.
    Touch OK.
Press the Power key to power on the device.
    or
Remove battery cover, remove battery and reinstall. Also there is a new update for LG Ally it will be the Froyo 2.2 but there is not release date available at this time it will post on your device when available. Hope this Helps. Leslie

  • GPS problem (?) in new iPad wifi?

If I open Map app, iPad can show me my location... but it seems that the gps won't refresh itself. When I am moving around by car.... the gps will only show me the location where i open the map app and stays there and wont follow my moving car, until I re-launch the map app.
Is it a gps problem or does it the way wifi iPad work? Because I used to have an iPad (1st gen) wifi+3g and the map+gps worked fine.

    Ouch....
    It explains the "problem".
    Thanks stedman1.

  • GPS problem with 3GS

Dont know what's wrong with my GPS service. I can use the "map" app. But when i use "Navigon", it shows that "no GPS service found". I used Navigon before, and it worked perfectly. My friend also has 3GS and the same app. No any GPS problem. I tried to download and install again, but it still doesnt work. Also tried restarting iphone. >.<
Can someone help me? Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Apple announced no such problem because there was and is no such problem. This would mean every single 3GS has a GPS problem or failure. Hogwash.
The GPS receiver on your 3GS may have a problem. Hardware can and does fail.

  • N97 GPS Problems - Hardware or Software?

Sorry to start yet another thread on the N97 GPS problems, but reading through all the threads there seems not to be any clear conclusion as to whether or not the issue is a software/firmware one, in which case potentially fixable, or a hardware one, in which case the phones have to be sent back and replaced.
My personally feeling is that it's hardware.  Some people have no issue but many have a problem.   I have the same issues with losing the satellites, poor GPS accuracy, etc. both with Ovi Maps 3.01 and with Google Maps, which again to me points to a hardware fault.  Updating firmware from v10 to v11 made no difference to GPS performance.
So, I wonder if people agree with me that it is a hardware issue and the phones have to go back, or if there is some hope of it being a software issue and thus being fixed?
Anyone had any success in sending back an N97 for replacement because if the GPS issue? Mine is a UK 3 branded N97 black, free as part of a contract, and I have a feeling that 3 are likely to resist replacing the phone if they can.
    Mark

I believe that the GPS problem in N97 not a hardware problem but a software problem with the Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.
    Below explanation why:
I have been using Nokia Maps 2.0 on my previous phone – E71 for more than one year. It worked pretty well and stable. One important remark – it is important to configure the server for AGPS under Settings well...
About one and half month ago I decided to install on my E71 the newest Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.0. And ... immediately my problems started. The GPS performance worsened – I was continuously getting messages about GPS lost, recalculating and usually concluding that I am on a parallel road to the road which I was actually driving – horrible...
Also my colleague with N82 made the same mistake (installed Maps 3.0) and got the same problems.
Because of this problems I have removed this new version on my E71 and went back to Nokia Maps 2.0. And guess what? - The problems were gone!
Two weeks ago I bought my N97. It comes only with Maps 3.1 so I was expecting problems. And ... indeed I have them all. Bad thing is however that I cannot go back to Maps 2.0 on N97...
I tested GPS accuracy with three different phones (N97, E71, E75) and two versions of Nokia Maps. What I can see is that its normal to be about 80-100 meters on average. This is not a specific N97 issue! And apparently should not be a problem because Nokia Maps 2.0 works great even if this application shows accuracy of 100 m. Probably thanks to the Assisted GPS.
So my conclusion is that it is not a hardware problem but a problem with (a part of) the software of the Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.x ! Maybe with a GPS Driver? Or the functionality of the assisted GPS?

  • N97 GPS problem!

There has been already some discussion about GPS but I want to start new one topic-
I would like to know is there any N97 or anybody which N97 GPS is working fine without any problems?
Today I made my first real navigation trip and I saw that my N97 with newest maps and phone sw was useless.
GPS signal is going to lost very often and my position arrow is coming too late for corners and turns. Also speed shows very often 0km/h and sometimes it goes totally grazy when poistion is lost and it's starting to calculate route again and again and it never ends without starting whole navigation from the beginning.
Well when I was returning back to my home today i decided to use my Nokia LD-3W Bluetooth GPS receiver and when I used that and also phone's A-GPS then MAPS  worked very well. None of problems.....
I truly hope that this GPS problem exists on every released N97 at this time because then it would be most propably SW related problem, not HW problem. Of course it can be also HW problem but I do not belive that.
Also some other Nokia phone models have had almost similar problems (with early sw versions) but those has been fixed by phone sw later on. But I must to admit that not so bad that I faced with N97 today.....

I believe it is a hardware problem. I use GPS Data all the time and it never fails that my N95-3 and E71-2 both get a good GPS signal that doesn't fluctuate constantly or randomly go in and out. It doesn't matter what application I'm in either, whether that be Google Maps, or Nokia Maps. The N97 has a diffiicult time finding and keeping hold of a GPS signal. Both of my N97's (first and second) are exactly the same.
The antenna is the problem. There is no doubt in my mind. All the software in the world can't make up for an antenna that can't keep a signal. It can mask the problem to a certain extent, which supposedly Nokia Maps 3.1 does, but it doesn't solve the real issue here which is **bleep** hardware.
Even on days and nights where there are not clouds in the sky, I get the "GPS does not work well indoors" error message while driving around in my car, trying to use the "GPS Data" application. My N95-3 and E71 never tell me that.
Nokia, as much as I like them, screwed this phone up hard, and to be honest, they've been doing it for some time.

  • Constant GPS problems

    Hello,
I am having problems with gps on my phone. I am on my first replacement from Verizon and am having the same issues as the original.
I will eventually get a lock, but will get a notification saying GPS signal lost in the middle of navigating with Google Maps. I have also noticed that it has trouble figuring out which way I am heading. Lets say my google maps has me going north, my arrow might be going north but it pointed West. Seems all screwed up.
Read somewhere that Verizon got a bad first batch of phones in regards to the gps chip,  anyone know if that's true?

Thanks for attempting the hard reset to resolve your issues takesone1221. Let's try safe mode because there may be an app on your device that could be causing issues with the GPS. I recommend enabling the safe mode and adding each application one at a time to test each application for GPS problems. Here are the steps http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/87334/ . Please keep us posted. Once you're done, you can disable the Safe mode function.
I also would like to apologize about the previous message that was incomplete.

  • N86 GPS problem

I have a problem with GPS on Nokia N86:
It has a huge problem to get a connection with sattelities. It is not a Ovi Maps fault because I  have checked it with other applications. Even if it connect with sattelites, it works inaccurately and keeps breaking the conection. The software is up to date. It made a test with Nokia LD-3W via bluetooth and it works perfect. Is it possible that integrated GPS is broken? Does anybody knows the solution?

    Hi Folks,
I also got a N86 a few days ago and well, I also have that GPS problem.
The strange thing is, I installed Sygic 7.x and he navigation was working without problems, 3 times no problem to get a quick gps fix.
But as for me Sygic is **bleep** I decided to switch over to Garmin Mobile XT which I liked on the 5800.
From that time I experiance problems with a gps fiy, sometimes it works within a minute, sometimes I wait 30 minutes without any fix.
During that time I'm outside and A-GPS is switched on.
It's the same if I just try the Nokia tools like OVI-Maps, or just GPS informations.....no fix, so it's not a Garmin problem.
I'm not sure if that is an issue which will be fixed with a firmware update, but I hope so very much!
I'm thinking of getting it to a Nokia Service point to complain about it....will see...
As far it does not look like anybody has a solution for that problem....damnit

  • When will Verizon have a fix for the LG G2 GPS Problems?

I am on my 3rd LG G2 and all of them have had the same GPS problem. No one can help me, went to a Verizon store and they advised that I would have to speak with Verizon on the phone. but I did after 2 replacement phones have been sent out to me. I went back to the store and they advised that Verizon is suppose to send me a different model or what ever the upgrade to that phone is. Where is the disconnect? I just need a Phone that works! Now I sent my phone off to LG this is crazy. I have not had to phone a year and I travel for business 2 to 3 times a week and need my phones GPS to work. Please Help

I read the entire thread, and you didn't mention that you had done all these things. Please understand, at least I'm trying to help you. I understand you are frustrated. I'm an end user like you.
I've had a few Android phones over the years, and if this is the behavior even after you've done what I've suggested, then it seems as though you have a HW problem. The GPS in my LG G2 works very very very well, so it seems like you got another bad one. From your post, you imply this is something you've also experienced on 2 other LG G2s. Wow - that's horrible.
It's appropriate to take it up with LG then.

  • Yoga 10 wifi and GPS problem

    Hi Community,
I bough a few days ago a YOGA-10 tablet (system data below).
    I'm facing two problems :
    a) My wireless is very poor. I'm often out of wifi coverage and everyone around, with other devices, work fine.
    b) I need the Yoga-10 to test GPS based apps.
However GPS is failing too often.
I also use MobiWIA GPS Status & Toolbox app and, in a 50km's trip with my Yoga in the front seat, I get 0 satelites fixed (although 10-11 visible) on 80% of the time (all other devices get 100% coverage).
    Any suggestion ?
Btw, as far as I understand, Yoga-1 does not support Glonass satellites, right ?
    Thank you in advance

  • GPS problem with Curve

My GPS sometime work and sometime doesn't with my BB curve
Telus told me this was a know issue that the new release 4.5 would fix this problem¸
For Now telus are at 4.3, but I see BB web site is at 4.6
Does any telus user tried that ?  Will it upgrade my blackberry firmware or it's only a Desktop SOftware upgrade ?
    JF

You need capital EDGE to get data (GPS) on the curve. you may be out of a covered area. If you travel around a lot you may want to drop the battery out for 30 sec. and then re-install it and see if you get the EDGE.

  • 5800 IMPORTANT GPS problem

Hi everyone, There is a fault in GPS of 5800. Most of the 5800 phones in the market, GPS dont work properly. I had lots of problems from two different network. I returned them. If you are thinking of buying 5800, be careful about the GPS. They try to sell their maps or try to make it work from internet mode. But Satellite positioning doesnt work. My friend got one, his phone works properly but I tried two different they didnt get any satellite signal. I tried another 2 in the shops, they also didnt catch satellite signal. Be careful.

I've bought a 5800 red for my girlfriend on saturday (4 days ago)
I can confirm that the first time you load the maps application, it takes alot of time to fix and calibrate to the sattelites. The problem i found was that the app didn't want to set a route for the destination i set, and was just showing my location as i drove away. I haven't tried to use it since then because i haven't been driving away from home.
I decided to try other solutions and installed  Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.30, that fully supports nokia 5800xm. I have to say i'm really impressed. Initial acquiring of sattelites took about as much as it took Nokia Maps, but on the second start, the next day, it was next to immediate. I must mention i never used A-GPS, just the unassisted GPS.
I then set a route and the app already started telling me to turn right after 100 meters(with voice).
I guess it's an overall beter option, besides the fact that (i think) it doesn't support walking mode like Nokia Maps does, and it costs quite a bit -- ~$9.
Other than the Nokia Maps route problem, i didn't have any other problems.
Maybe the problem the OP had was similar to the faulty earpieces, but at a smaller scale. Who knows...

  • Nokia 5800 GPS Problem

    Hello,
i have an Nokia 5800, and i can´t use the gps with a satellite signal, only with the GPRS.
    someone can helpme.
    thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi i was facing similar problem here in bangalore(India)
All you Need to Do is to stay in some open area(Outside your house or anywhere)
    1.Open Maps
    2.click on My location
and Keep the device searching for satellites (there are 6 of them) .
it would take at max 45 minutes
    3.Be patient  for 45minutes
4.Dont forget to load MAps for your country
5.Nokia GPS works without any need of Wifi or Telecom operator for
    Nokia Maps
6.If you have google maps installed ,
GPS will work too ,but it will ask for WIfi connection or network operator to download maps
     7.Nokia location application is awesome
you can see you speed, navigate and do lots of things
but google Maps is no less
[just it needs some connection to download maps from internet ]

  • Gps problems while in 3G

is anyone else having problems while having the 3G enabled, that the GPS on the phone doesnt work. If I am using the phone with 3G enabled it says I am in Newark NJ, like the pic on the screen. I live in ohio. If I turn off the 3G and the GPS works, but not very accurate, close though. And it does suck my battery down really quick.

There is a way to force it to only 802.11g mode. I'll describe it from memory, so there might be a mistake in the explanation....
Open the Airport Utility and get to the screen in which you can choose the compatibility mode (N, N 9b/g compatible), etc. Hold the Apple key THEN click the dropdown menu that chooses the mode and it will now have some "extra" settings that weren't there before. Pick the 'g' mode and see if that works.
    Hopefully it does...

  • Nokia 5230 Gps problem

Hello guys, I've brought my Nokia 5230 recently and I've soon discovered a problem with the gps function. The problem is every time I tried to see where I'm or the gps function it takes ages and it still can't detect any gps signal, I've been to many places, home, library, in my car moving through town and really it don't pick up any signals. Does it matter if I don't use internet at all? And are there settings that I have to follow? Thanks in advance.

    Hi rexlee123
Sounds as if you are not utilizing the Assisted GPS feature which requires a network access point. Whereas you can set OVI Maps to "Offline" if regional maps downloaded, if you just rely on Integrated GPS reception will be quite poor. You need to check in Menu > Applications > Location > Positioning > Positioning server > Access point and also in Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Destinations - that WAP access point has not ended up in "Uncategorized" folder where not utilized.

  • GPS problem - no location

    Hi!
I have a problem with GPS on A1.
It doesn't find a location both in Google maps and in NavDroid, just search icon start blinking and can blinking for hours.
    Reset didn't help.
Clean sky, and sunny weather didn't help neither.
    Are familiar with it?

If you have your device rooted you can try the following.
    Change the line
    acNtpServer="10.21.116.63" in acNtpServer="europe.pool.ntp.org"
in file /etc/gps/glconfig.xml (with ES File Explorer, root mode and / mounted writeable)
For US replace europe with north-america.
After modification you must reboot your device.
You should have an active internet connection for the first GPS fix.
The first fix may take up to 5 minutes, all further fixes should be within 15 seconds
