GPS! SOMEONE realize this is an issue!!

So Iphones so called GPS has issues. I understand that its using a mixture of cell towers and other various tools to triangulate a location BUT! IT DOESNT WORK. I have contacted Apple support on several occasions but ironically, they dont even acknoledge that it is a problem. Before the Firmware upgrade in January of this year, The GPS seemed to work exceptionally well for most reasons. When I upgraded the firmware, I was LUCKY to even get a blue dot for my location. Most of the time it simply held the "cross hairs" in one location and Jumped in "mile" increments as I traveled. This HAS to be a firmware issue and has not been resolved or acknoledged through all of the 2. yada yada and 3.0 firmware upgrades. I have tried all of the suggestions in the forums and still have the issue. Does ANYONE either know of a fix OR if apple tech has any intention of fixing the issue with the 3g or 1st gen iphone?? I have checked EVERYONE I know that has an Iphone 1st or 3g and the issue is the same across the board. Hmmmmmm.

My comments were in no way meant to be personal beyond the issue about identifying location (something which many 'new' posters seem to have chosen to ignore).
I guess that we've been used to 'acquisition times' for GPS, having fewer satellites overhead at any instant. I guess also that we've been aware that sometimes we're 'lucky' and acquisition happens instantly and sometimes we're unlucky and it can take many minutes so we have to be prepared to wait.
We have been lucky with GSM (and you've been unlucky with AT&T's slow uptake, wanting to be unique rather than be seen to be a 'follower'), but as I was involved with trying to get some of this stuff accepted a decade ago you cannot begin to understand the level of frustration that I feel about every negative comment that appears here about AT&T's short-comings in this area!
It gives me no pleasure, I can assure you.
All that I can say is that if you truly understand the limitations of the underlying technologies then you may not be so quick in condemnation of the iPhone and its capabilities - it actually does a pretty good job! <----UK-ish for 'thank your lucky stars that it works so well most of the time!'

First off I realize this is a java forum and not Javascript so if you are do not know Javascript ignore this thread. I posted it here because Ive used this before and help is often prompt. However, If anyone out there knows javascript would you be willing to help me real quick on a function issue that i cannot seem to solve? It would be greatly appreciated! I am trying to add a pop up box that displays an error message when they enter the wrong format. For ex. the proper format is 3 letters followed by 3 numbers (INF334). I am considering up grading to lightroom 5. But first I need to be sure I can retrieve my original library, which has been replaced by images from iphoto I hadn't slected. I currently use a lightroom 3 and have spent countless hours as a professional photographer improving my original photographs. Can I speak to someone regarding this matter?

Hope you slept well. I have been busy looking into many of the things you
have told me.
Where should I start so much info.
There are 7 Ircat folders. Some empty some contain approx 7000 images. Some
of the images /altered on lightroom are here few maybe 50. Although they
are missing or offline and now in the CR2 format ( photoshop elements),
which is very strange. I think this an issue as to why it may have all
gone, changed? In another Ircat folder many images are in the condition I
left them although not all of them, the latest 2013 are missing. Also in
another extension Ircat folder many of the images are there I imagine the
same 7000 but cant be seen?
On my hard drive there is a folder I cannot open, it reads in progress and
says no App to open document, search App store for Application. Perhaps
this is the key, I also have little storage space on my hard drive.
Many images under 2012 on hard drive have the tiff image, with altered
version created on lightroom some now show as CR2 version to view the photo
photoshop elements opens up automatically, which I never use. I do feel
this is a major reason/ issue?
Also under certain folders with dates my images appear pixelated or blurry.
Under another heading the jpg version is great approx 73 some are missing
the latest and most important, unfortunately I want in Tiff.
Under another folder on hard drive I have many of the images I am chasing
approx 60 but the size is a concern 2-2.5mb, should be around 40mb?
In another folder all are in CR2 photoshop elements.
Time Machine, which I'm sure was inactive tells me it could not back up
disk?
Under thumbnails it looked promising all in DNG many missing and in CR2
format.
I thought I would let you know in case I haven't already that the memory on
the imac is very low, hence why I began trashing/ deleting images yesterday
thet are saved on my hard drive this is when all this mess occured.
Are there short cuts I can use to remove images that are duplicates without
lightroom becoming tempermental?
Were too next? I am hoping the originals can be found and installed in
their original form.

Anybody have this TEXT TOOL ISSUE with CS5???

i'm on a pc that meets all system requirements for cs5 photoshop and notice that whenever i use the text tool and try to increase/decrease the size, leading or anything, i can not see my results in real time, i have to manually CLICK outside of the text area or in the gray area of the document for photoshop to actually make the change, almost like when you use the transform tool and resize things but have to *commit* the changes, so imagine if you were doing that only you couldnt actually see what size you were resizing your object to.
someone else in the office seems to be having this exact same issue as well. it's like closing your eyes to do your work and then opening them back up once you *think* you have the right font size or leading.
any help would be much appreciated!!!!!

If it's a "Mobility" card then chances are it's in a laptop, and many laptop manufacturers are required to be the source for driver updates. You might have
to check with the computer maker.
If there's not a driver update for it, it's possible you could try downgrading the driver to an older version if one can be found.
What operating system are you running (XP, Vista, 7, 32 or 64 bit)?

HT2963 Can't set JPGs to open in Photoshop not Preview- forum suggested this is Permissions issue

I've repeatedly used "Open with" > "Other" > "Adobe Photoshop CS4" > "Always Open With" and it works only with that particular JPG. In a Photoshop forum, someone suggested this is a Permissions issue. Is it? If so, how do I fix it? (I have no UNIX-type experience. This is Mavericks OS X 10.9.2.) Thanks to anyone who can help!

Control (right) - click on the file and select Get Info from the contextual menu:
In the Info window select Photoshop as the app to open it with and click on the Change All button.

Creating an Aperture web page from photos the page goes white and nothing displays. Is this a RAM issue?

I have resolved the issue....turns out that, in my case, running OSX 10.8.1 with Aperture 3.3.2 was what was required! I was running Aperture 3.3.2 with OSX 10.7.x and had this issue.

When running labview's test executive I recieve runtime error: Call to step "PRE-RUN" failed. Could someone explain this error?

I have a set of vi's that work when run under labview. However, when calling these vi's from labview's test executive I recieve runtime error: Call to step "PRE-RUN" failed. in Assign Connector Pane.vi->Call Test.vi->Execute Pre-Run.vi->Test Executive. Could someone explain this error to me? (or ideally tell me how to fix it?) Thanks.

There are any number of possible causes to this problem. Which version of Test Executive are you using? Have you upgraded your Test Executive recently? The latest version is 5.1.1. If you have changed anything about Test Executive on your computer recently, I recommend you perform a mass compile of all your VI libraries, as having different versions of the VIs on your system could often result in the "Call to Step XYZ Failed" errors. Also, are you using any DAQ or Analysis VIs in your steps? We have seen problems where the use of DAQ or Analysis VIs in the sequence can cause intermittent "Call to Step...Failed" errors. There are some KnowledgeBase entries on our website that discuss this problem. Are you using the Test Executive in the VI environment, or
as an executable? Again, there are some problems with using Test Executive as an executable that result in these errors, and there are also KnowledgeBase entries that discuss these problems.
If you have a pared-down application that demonstrates the problem, feel free to send me your VIs and your .seq file and I will try to reproduce the problem.

Does Apple even realize this 3.6 update has completely screwed up iChat and the ability to use the screen share feature????
After 40+ hours of trying to solve the problem, I finally confirmed 100% that this update is the issue, and fixed it by restoring to 3.5.3.
Just wondering why Apple has no info on this after the 20+ tech calls we made over past weeks fell on deaf ears, trying to blame our ISP.\...

I have lost my Hotmail pagination marks. Is this a browser issue?

Hotmail used to have the list of pages in each box, ie Inbox, sent box etc.
It has all been changed recently to pagination marks instead to allow you to navigate.
However - I have no pagination marks so cannot navigate past the 1st page of any box. Is this a browser issue?

There is no GPS in any iPod. If you set up the Find My iPod service prior to the iPod going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPod is turned on, connected to a WiFi network, and has not had the Find My iPod service disabled). Log into icloud.com and go to the Find My iPhone section. Note, though, that you'll only get the location of the WiFi router to which the iPod is connected; there's no way to pinpoint the exact location of the iPod itself.
If you did not set up Find My iPod, then there is no way to track it. Notify the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPod (the iTunes Store, for instance).

I am new to digital photo - I have been a B&W film photographer for many years. I have a problem with a Macbook Air. It was working fine - I was using LR and a message came on the screen that said something like the memory was dangerously low. I stopped and tried to delete LR files. I couldn't do it. I closed the program and tried reopening and got the message that there is not enough memory available to open LR. I contacted Apple. They spent a half hour on the phone with me and eventually told me they didn't know how to help. The tech said that LR had gobbled up all the memory and said I should contact Adobe and ask where and how my photo files are stored and to delete them. I have several back-ups. Thanks - Arthur

This sort of error message only comes up for Lightroom when your hard disk is full. Indeed this has nothing to do with internal memory as that will be intelligently be dealt with. If you have a mac Book Air that is not so surprising as the cheapest versions come with very small hard disks and if you shoot raw with any recent camera, you'll fill up your hard disk very quickly and you can probably only store a few months of pictures if you are a typical photographer. So the bottom line is that you need to create some room on your hard disk. You should move some of your originals to an external hard disk. You can also delete some of your backup copies of your catalog file that Lightroom automatically generates every few days and that quickly gobble up hard disk space. So first figure out how full your hard disk is. To see that, go to the apple menu, hit -> About this Mac -> More info->Storage. You should see your internal hard disk on top and you'll find that it is almost entirely full with photos. Now find your Lightroom catalog file using Finder. It is usually in a folder in the Pictures folder in your home directory. You should see a Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file, a previews file and a folder called backups. Inside the backups folder, you'll find a lot of subfolders. They have names that show the dates the backups were created. If you have backups of your entire hard disk, you can delete these backups when they are older than a few months. I usually only keep the last 4 around. Just drag the folders into the trash can on the dock on the bottom of your screen and empty the trash. This will probably free up enough space that Lightroom will already run again. Now start thinking about where you will want to store older images. If you have a good USB3 or Thunderbolt hard disk that is probably the best option. Here’s How to Move Images to Another Drive in Lightroom. « Julieanne Kost's Blog If that doesn't work because you don't have enough hard drive space to run Lightroom yet, here is another set of instructions to move your files using the finder to the other hard disk: How do I move only my photos to another hard drive, leaving the catalog where it is? - The Lightroom Queen. If you follow that, as soon as you confirm all your images are on the new hard disk, you can delete them from your internal one. She is not so clear about that part but if you don't delete the originals that you moved off you don't free up space. You should move the folder structure over to the new hard disk and then reconnect the folders in Lightroom. That should make it refind all your images.
That said, if you are uncomfortable with the computer in itself, your best bet is to find a local photography club. There is invariably a Lightroom savvy person in there that could help you move your files. That might be your best bet if you are uncomfortable moving these yourself. A general mac savvy person like you would find at an Apple store or so generally will not be able to help you with this except when they are photographers themselves and know Lightroom. You might get lucky with that.

You should be able to copy them to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases and you can then sync them to the iPhone (or you could re-download them directly on the iPhone)

I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues? Or have any idea on how I can solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated!

Links should not create any problems in Keynote. If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
Try this repair for Keynote, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

empty the trash: Finder > Empty Trash

Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.

Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions

when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

Firefox will not close properly when I close a window. Is this a know issue?

I go to http://www.1035thearrow.com/ and click lisen live on top. it opens another window if I try to close that window Firefox crashes. If this is the last window I close it will partly close (in windows task manager it wont show up in applications) and it won't let me start a new session of Firefox until I stop the firefox.exe process in the task manager. When I restart Firefox it will bring that window back up with the same problem. Is this a known issue and if not how do I report it.
