GPS stopped working

I got brand new N95 8GB and updated it with the latest firmware on 15th of Feb. The GPS was working well for two days, but stopped working suddenly without any reason (no changes done, no updates, no settings changed). Even though it finds many satellites (bars with numbers in satellites info) but it doesn't logg on them (all bars are just blank). It just keeps searching the satellites for hours but doesn't work even though I had the phone in my car behind the window (open sky access) while driving more than 100 km.
I've done what was on the other postings on this page (disabling / enabling Bluetooth - Network based navigation methods,...) even tried to shut the phone down for a while, but no success -> still keeps searching.
Any help will be appreciated.

The length of the bars (solid or not) on the satellite info screen indicate the strength of the signals from the respective satellites. So long bars is good.
One thing to watch out for is if the list of satellites keeps changing i.e. All the satellite numbers change from one moment to the next. As the satellites are orbiting the Earth then they will naturally drift in and out of your sky. Your handset will also keep switching to the best ones. However there should be some level of stability. If they all keep jumping around then that is not good.
I have had a similar experience with another GPS device (not my N95) and it was a fault with the unit.
To be absolutely sure. Go somewhere with open sky from horizon to horizon on a clear day. Make sure AGPS is enabled. Stand there with the phone held at 45 degrees with the keypad facing up and keep your hands away from the keys (in particular the hash key). Wait 15 minutes.
If you don't get a lock after than, then it I'd suggest a fault with your your handset.
Sorry I can't offer more.

Don't know what to do or who to ask??? GPS stopped working after 4.4.2 Kitkat update.
I have been on the phone multiple times with Verizon, visited multiple stores and still getting different answers with every different person I talk to...
Since the 4.4.2 update, my phone and my wife's phone (14 or 15 month old SIII's) that worked perfect a couple weeks ago no longer know where they are 95% percent of the time... Location cannot be found and GPS satellites cannot be seen (sometimes after searching for 10 - 20 minutes they will lock on).
And it's not just Google maps, it is all apps that need location (ie. gps status and toolbox, weather channel, etc...)
Google maps has us in the right location 50% of the time  but i think that has more to do with 4g and wifi (although i always know the weather and traffic conditions in the next town over now).
Navigation will set up fine in Google maps until you actual move the car. Then it updates location every couple minutes, but usually a couple streets over from where I actually am. Maybe 1 out of every four or five times I try it, it will start working about 15 minutes after I started it (then work flawlessly, so it can actually work sometimes). But if you end the process and start over to see if it really "works", back to square one with it not knowing its location all over again...
I obviously did all the normal trouble shooting fixes with the battery and sim card removals and even did a "recommended factory data reset" on my phone with no luck. After this didn't work I stopped by another verizon store yesterday that has "tech services" that I was told could run some sort of diagnostics on my phone. After I showed the tech all the screen shots i have taken of what was happening while driving, he said it is a software problem and a very common one at that.
I was told I should either buy new phones or switch to the edge program where i can get a new phones. These don't seem like very fair solutions to me considering before the 4.4.2 update our phones worked perfect and they are both in almost perfect condition after 14 or 15 months...
Will there be a fix to this??? Is it a Samsung problem??? Should I be contacting them???

If it is 3GS, you can update it to iOS 5 and it will work.

  • GPS stopped working! (unending "search for location" prompt since Android 5.0.1)

Shortly after getting the Android update my GPS stopped working all together. I have tried everything i could think of. Uninstalled all recent apps, hard reboot, GPS testing app, full phone diagnostic apps, finally COMPLETE phone wipe re-installing everything. Nothing has worked! I am desperate. I use GPS all the time, not a single app, nor the phone itself can get the GPS to get a location fix. No matter what i do, the phone eternally says "Finding Location" for every single GPS using app, diagnostics or otherwise.
It is just a stock Verizon HTC One M8. A brand spanking new one, never dropped, stock verizon/android OS, like literally pristine new! Since the phone is not rooted i have no real way of rolling back to an older Android version correct? I noticed there was only one other post with the same exact symptons posted about 3 months ago that went without any answer/responses since. So... am i SOL? I tried initiating Verizon support on Twitter, but they think its a specific app problem... *sigh*
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have been trying to troubleshoot with Verizon support via twitter as well. So far I have gotten, to simply turn location off for 12 hours and afterwords see if it works again. This did not work. They said engineers are looking into it.  Additionally this was a replacement phone via the HTC advantage program so I assume it is refurbished. I did not use GPS until the 5,0,1 android update coincidentally so I do not know for sure it worked when I got it.
The 2nd link shows the possibility of GPS breakage during the initial teardown of a return. Sadly the other issue is extreme battery drain. A 5 min phone call took 5% power and standby for 2 hours took 30%. No active background apps beyond stock, no auto sync, all devices but 4g data and WiFi turned off.
I think the software is not to blame. Seems HTC sent me an incrediby faulty phone.

  • Gps stop working during the run

I've purchased my SW3 mainly due to GPS stand alone.
unfortunately it stops work during the run or just  about 10 minutes after has started.
I've tried My tracks , Run Keeper IFit outside and all of them happen the same .
    could you fix this ?

You need to download Google's My Tracks app and it will sync to your phone. Once you do just go down to my tracks and select run, and once it locks you'll see that location icon in the top left corner of watch showing that it has GPS lock

  • E71 GPS Stopped Working After 3.03 (10wk11) Instal...

Had I known attempting this Map update would blow out my GPS, I wouldn't have done it.
My current software version in my Straight Talk E71 is 500.21.009.  I am a Mac user.
I downloaded this file in hopes of updating my GPS Map software: nokia_maps_3.03_10wk11_b04_s60_3.1_rom.Nocs.sis
I saved that file on my mem card and installed the 3.03 maps onto my E71 using Nokia Multimedia Transfer v1.4.2 for Snow Leopard. I did this over Bluetooth. I power cycled and I cannot use my GPS with full 3G bars. It cannot find "My Position" after driving around town with my E71 searching for hours.  I see a red dot in the middle of the screen (now dark screen since it's dark here).
When I go to GPS data on the E71, I see "Searching for GPS satellites", "Calculating GPS data".
When I look at the Satellite Status, I see mostly black bars showing numbers 5, 2, 12, 25, 26 (not sure what this means).
My Positioning Methods/Settings show: Assisted GPS & Integrated GPS checked.
My Positioning Server Access Point show: Tracfone Internet
My Positioning Server Address show: supl.nokia.com
I have also attempted to update my US maps via Bluetooth using the Nokia Map Loader tool only to have it not complete the download.  It freezes or crash every time. When it crashes and I force quit, once I restart, I will see a crash log.
I want to also mention that the first time I tried updating the US maps via Bluetooth using the Nokia Map Loader, I believe my maps were deleted.
I have also deleted my CITIES folder and qf file from my memory card, disconnected from Bluetooth, ran Ovi Maps and saw a message that said something was downloading.
I reconnected via Bluetooth then attempted to update maps yet again in the Nokia Map Loader. It now just sits showing "Looking for map data on your phone".
This has been an over 48 hr ordeal.
What is the fix for at least getting my GPS to work again?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This process and experience is ridiculous at this point after numerous, unsuccessful tries.
    Update:
Yet again I deleted the \cities folder & qf file from my memory card.  I ran Ovi Maps, my cities folder was re-created, I went to My Position and got the expected red dot. Closed Ovi Maps, enabled Bluetooth, connected with the NMT tool then re-ran the Nokia Map Loader.
Surprisingly, the Nokia Map Loader appeared to connect fine with my device without error. When I selected USA Maps, the tool started downloading, got past the half way point and I saw as message stating "unpacking files".  It was actively copying whatever part of the downloaded files it had grabbed to my memory card.  Great, or so I thought, as this is as far as I've gotten in the last 48 hrs.
I then got an unexpected error in the Nokia Map Loader and the app closed. The error log is in the attached text file on this thread. (EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV))
I restarted the Nokia Map Loader and got the same error to reappear immediately but it re-connected with my device. This is the only app crashing like this on my Mac and giving this error.  Previously, the error was EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT).
Now I'm quite annoyed that the Nokia Map Loader does NOT pick up where it left off in the download process before the app crashed. Therefore, I'm attempting to re-download US Maps for the final time, all 1.5GB of it.  Hopefully it will complete this time.
Not a good Nokia experience regarding mapping updates at all, at least in the Mac environment.

  • Help! My gps stopped working for around a month or...

Hey, ive been trying sometimes to use the gps and well it worked rly fine around 1 month ago untill i travelled to romenia (from portugal) when i got back to portugal it still kept searching as if there was no signal at all... i reinstalled the maps now to 3.0 but theres rain and clouds pretty much whole week, what can i possibly do to make sure its broken or it works, i cannot waste 15€ per 10min of diagnosis at nokia care center as my warranty has ran out.
Please help with any tips at all, im desperate here
Thanks in advance for any reply!

Hi!, im from Portugal too. xD
The problem you are having might be region defined by the GPS, i dont know if you realy understand. But i suggest you to do a Hard reset by pressing *#7370# on the the stanby screen.
It will prompt you the security code enter 12345 ( unless you've chenged it )
Let it restart choose you region as Portugal and define the time and date,
Once done power it off and take out the battery and wait about 5 seconds.
Put everything back on and poer on your n95, and go back to GPS Data application on your tools folder.
Once you open GPS Data app go to position, press options and go to satelite status.
Now you go outside, because today its a nice day in Portugal, with your slide open in an open area.
And wait 10 minutes maximum. If it doesnt pick up nothing then its hardware fault.
If you need it translated to Portuguese ask me, as i can speak Portuguese.
Se precissares que traduza o que disse diz ou entao usa o tradutor do google que tambem ajuda.
If it helped give Kudos!! xD

  • Droid DNA GPS stopped working, no satelites locking, and phone keeps searching for new software update.

    Droid DNA running version 4.4.2
Google maps says GPS signal lost and GPS software shows that there are no active satellites located.
Thinking that it was a bug in the software I had the phone check for software updates and it is now stuck with the message "checking for new software for your HTC HTC6435LVW". Phone still works but the message keeps reappearing.
I have powered the phone off, removed the sim card, reinserted the sim card and powered the phone back up but that did not help.   What next?

Never fear, help is here Citadel_1974! I would be delighted to help out today. Have you attempted to process a full restore/reset on the device? If not, please complete and reconnect with us on the outcome. We look forward to hearing from you soon, thanks!

  • GPS suddenly stopped working

GPS stopped working! Already tried resetting my iPhone. What do I have to do?

Hopefully this thread is still being followed.. I was struck by the comment made by prk60091, where he says going into airplane mode turns off all the radio receivers INCLUDING GPS. I've been preparing for a trip (from the US) to Europe, where I will be in airplane mode so as not to use the phone or the data services. I would, of course, have WiFI turned on, but was going to rely on GPS in the iPhone for map directions, etc. I've tried this, and my GPS does not work at all when I'm in airplane mode. I also turned OFF the WiFi for this experiment. I get NO GPS data at all.
But its hard to believe that going into airplane mode would turn off the GPS signal. That would obviously explain when I'm not getting a GPS signal, but it seems crazy that GPS would be disabled along with phone functions. Can anybody elaborate on this, and maybe also comment on other reasons I can't get a GPS signal. I've tried it in an open space where my Garmin Nuvi GPS DOES get a signal.
    Thanks.

  • GPS not working on N97

Hey guys, i have had my N97 for about 2 weeks now and on sunday the gps stopped working. the GPS was working on nokia maps 2.0 and then was using 3.0 for a day or 2 and it stopped recieving a gps signal, i have tried updating to the newest maps and it still doesn't work.
in satellite staus i get 2-7 empty black bars evenwhen i am out in the open with clear skies!! the gps used to work when i was in the most enclosed space indoors.
Anyone have any idea of what the problem could be!! its driving me nuts that a €600 phone's gps just gives up a week after getting it!!

ok, so i got my n97 back a few days ago, turned out the place wasn't actually a nokia data centre they just hadn't changed the sign outside yet, but they still fix nokia's. gave it to them and got it back and still no working gps!
now im stuck with a €500 n97 that has no gps on it, which was one of the big selling points for me. going to wait for v2.0 firmware before i go any further with it.
So they didn't have the new parts. It seems that some places have them already and some don't. Fw20 will improve the gps a little bit but probably not so much (? People who have tested it say so) but the big fix are the new parts.

  • GPS not working with something plugged in headphone jack aux jack

Ok I have an iPhone 3GS and a car kit from Belkin that uses the aux jack in my car, if I plug the cable in the GPS stops working. I tried different cables different car and tried my wife and daughters iPhones all with the same result. I have G-Maps, Motion X, AT&T Nav, same outcome all 3 apps.

weird, cause I use it daily for GPS, for the sound. it is a sound ouput, don't how it is possible to interfer with the GPS. In my car I have to specifically choose the audio source for the car kit (from within the kit). What do you mean exactly it stops working?
what happens if you plug in a headset? Myabe try in different car!

  • N97 GPS not working after 2.0 upgrade

    Hello
I have a N97  (RM-505) which is currently running 20.2.019. Previously it was running 11.x (don't remember exactly). The problem is that after the upgrade, GPS stopped working: it will never get any signal. I have tried in various places, ranging from the roof of my house to the top of a mountain, with and without cell signal and with and without AGPS (which obviously makes sense only when I have signal). I'm using Applications->Location->GPS Data->Position, which always shows "No connection" and the well-known message "GPS works poorly indoors and in enclosed areas".
Of course all of this was working fine before the upgrade (with the obvious limitations of the GPS signal) and I have checked with a standalone Garmin GPS just in case (it could get signal where the N97 couldn't).
I have tried a hard reset (*#7370#), but the result is the same.
    Anyone experienced the same problem?
    Thanks

Same happens with 5800's firmware update... Nokia doesn't care to make a beta phase before release any update, they like to test with us.

I have an RM-507 N97 as well, upgraded to v20 firmware and with the GPS antenna factory fix.
It appears that the firmware upgrade changes something between the MAPS app, the MAP data and the GPS drivers which causes this issue.
Recommended course of action is to delete and reinstall map data using PC Suite or Ovi Suite.
ps. There is another apparent problem that can cause lack of GPS fix which is currently under investigation.  If your N97 is "hot" (i.e. just after charging or long periods of continuous display activity), you may have problems getting a GPS fix.  Also, if you run the MAPS app for a long period of time with display active, you may see loss of fix problems.

  • IPhone 5 data network stops working when using GPS

    Hello,
I have a strange problem for some time now. The DATA connection in GPS apps stop working when navigating. When I use Google maps or WAZE apps the first time after rebooting the device, everything is working just fine for first address search, but after beginning the navigation, DATA network disappears only for the navigation app, browsing is working just fine (a bit slowly, but fine).
Tried to factory reset the device few times, and changed the carrier provider, didn't help
    Any ideas???

  • Pearl 8130 Bluetooth stop working with GPS

Has anyone experienced a situation where your Bluetooth BlackBerry was paired with your automobile's GPS system and was working fine, then stopped one day and can't get it to pair up anymore?  We have an 8130 that was paired to the car's GPS system perfectly then suddenly stopped working one day.  After taking it to the car dealer and having them look at it they determined it was a problem with the phone.  They were able to pair up another phone to the car without any problems.  I took the phone and tried pairing it with another GPS system, that can pair up with another working BB, and was not able to get the phone/GPS to pair up either.  Has situations like that happened before?  What can be done about it, if anything?
    Thanks.

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

I am facing a strange problem after the OS upgrade of my BB 9300, curent OS is 6.0 bundle 2342 (v6.0.0.526, plateform 6.6.0.195).
After reboot (alt+shift+enter), my phone works normal for some time. (time is not fixed period and is random period varying from 1 hour to 5-6 hours also, as noted by me).
After that it stops GPRS and GPS , due to which my applications like Whatsapp and Google map stops working.
I need to reboot it again to make it work.
But i hate rebooting it , as it takes time in reboot process and i sometimes misses message on whatsapp, if i forget to reboot.
Any fixes to make it okay ?
    thanks in advance
