GPU constantly maxed
Notice the GPU gague below. It is always maxed out as shown below (except for when external monitor is used).
I think this is a problem. I noticed this as I noticed that my battery seemed to be draining more quickly than it should.

It'll tell you which program is using the discrete graphics card.
After identifying it, right click the program, Run on Graphics Processor, set default processor. This takes you to the NVidia control panel, where you can then add a rule for the program in question and force it to run on the integrated card.

GT70 0NC GPU constantly crashing
Hi,
I'm completely desperate here for help. I bought the MSI GT70 0NC around late 2012, everything was working perfectly until recently this year.
My GPU was starting to crash with a driver failure message. My computer wouldn't lock up, just the game I was playing (applies to all games using my GPU) except it would keep crashing and recovering, so I have to force shutdown.
So I opened up the laptop and cleaned out all the dust, put in some new thermal paste on the heatsink and all that jazz.
Then later on it would crash again and again, until it would basically just crash every 2-3 minutes upon use.
I've had to manually force all applications to use the Intel chipset instead of the NVIDIA gpu because of this, and this obviously limits what I can play.
I've tried numerous things:
- Install newest driver (352.86) with clean install (deleted all NVIDIA folders and reg keys and all that jazz)
- Dual booted into another drive with a clean OS install and driver install. (the new drive uses Windows 7 64-bit whereas my old drive uses 8.1 64-bit)
- Increased PCI latency in BIOS from 32 to 192 clocks. (this just made it so crashes would make the game freeze, and I'd get the driver fail message 20-30 seconds later)
- Installed the driver that came with the laptop in 2012 and tried with that. Same thing.
I inspected the actual card as well when I opened it, and there doesn't seem to be any physical damage at all.
The only thing I didn't do is update my BIOS (so the BIOS is still the one from 2012). I'm not sure this would even help since it crashes even with the driver it came with in 2012.
What can I do? Is this just defective? I don't want to ship my laptop away for 3 weeks and chuck down 400$ to repair (aka replace) the gpu, I'd rather invest in a new desktop rig I can build myself.
ThanksLooks like the graphic card is aging now and make the graphic driver jump into the exceptions or hangings. If you can borrow the same graphic card, maybe you can test whether this problem is from hardware itself or the software problem.

Chromium GPU Process high CPU usage
Hi!
This issue isn't new but unfortunately doesn't go away on its own with upgrades and looking at my Google results I start wondering whether I'm the only one with this problem: the "GPU Process" is almost constantly maxing out one core (or more).
This is on a GeForce GTX 660 (which has an GK106 AFAIK) and always the most recent closed-source drivers from NVIDIA (because nouveau still crashes/freezes in a matter of minutes). Disabling the GPU acceleration screws up chromium's renderer badly (but great to have a switch for that, anyway!) and hence is no option.
Anybody else having this problem? Any advice?
thx

I have an Intel Xeon E3-1230 v3 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti and have the same symptoms as you where flash and html5 video max out the cpu. Performance in both Firefox and Chromium is horrendously poor and games in Steam are so slow they're unplayable.
After trying to find a solution to this over semester break I gave up. I've been taking a similar approach and hoping that with an update the problem may be fixed but nothing has come along yet.
If there is anyone else that's had success with this Nvidia card or something similar please let us know you secret? -
Ultra low frame rates, GPU not being used
While using After effects during playback, I am getting about 10-4 FPS. With frame rates that low it's basically impossible to make any videos. I am using a desktop gadget to monitor GPU usage. I noticed that my GPU is not being used at all, 0% usage and only a few MB of memory being consumed out of 4 gigs of GDDR5. I called Adobe customer service and basically I was told that After effects only uses as much GPU power as it needs to. Ok, that makes since and If I was getting 30+ FPS then I wouldn't care, but it seems odd to me that After effects is running so poorly and not using my GPU. If my GPU was maxed out, then I would understand I need a more powerful GPU to improve frame rates, but since my GPU is not being used at all, not even a bit then I don't think it's a hardware problem, but some sort of setting that is not right. The only thing I could think of is that my HDD is pretty slow or that GTX cards are not designed to run Open Gl and maybe that's the problem, but I double checked the Adobe website and GTX cards are supported. Also I downloaded some other GPU monitoring software to double check and both the Desktop gadget and the GPU software monitor show no activity. I am really new to After effects. Thanks for help.

4670kThat's because it appears that you're using AE incorrectly. I bet you're assuming that if you hit the space bar, AE plays back video like a video editing application.
Well, it doesn't.
AE is an effects, motion graphics and compositing application. It's designed to do completely different things than an editing application does. Hence, it doesn't work like an editing application does. For example, IT DOESN'T PLAY BACK VIDEO IN REAL TIME. That's why you got that getting started link. At least do yourself the favor of reading how AE works.
And for the purposes of this thread, it wouldn't hurt you to learn how to RAM Preview: hit zero on the numeric keypad and see what happens. It's just one of the many basics you need to know before you jump into the deep end of the pool with AE. -

Here's a good thread on http://www.sysnative.com/forums/showthread.php/1248-0x101-quote-A-clock-interrupt-was-not-received-on-a-secondary-processor-quote
What you're looking for will be in one of the following categories:
a) BIOS bug
b) a driver whose activity is causing the target processor to lock up
c) a hardware defect (temperature, voltage, dust, RFI, outright borkedness...) ?I wonder about CPU defect also)
So, check the drivers http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.php
Then check the inside of the case (temperature, voltage, dust, etc).
Then run hardware stress tests
Try this free video stress test: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit
Try this free stress test: Free Software - http://download.cnet.com/Prime95-32-bit/3000-2053_4-192895.html
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead.
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.
More Video Stress Tests:

2. Two other video stress tests (may be more stressful than FurMark):

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK - the program doesn't have a whole bunch of safety features to protect you from yourself!

Only need to run 1 or 2 of the tests under most circumstances. I haven't used any of the tests myself, so I listed all that I was able to find.

Then try replacing parts.
Then look up the versions of your BIOS to see what changes were done.
Recently it was found (here: BSOD Stop 0x00000101 and Stop 0x0000009c ) that a wipe and reinstall of Windows fixed a STOP 0x101 problem. I'd have to recommend at least running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW on any PC that has this problem (simply because it's too easy easy
to do and it may fix things).

H55M-E23 Problems with Onboard Realtek Gigabit NIC
I just finished a new build HTPC using the H55M-E23 and I'm having problems with the onboard Realtek Gigabit LAN controller.
System specs are: OS is Windows 7 - 64 bit. Intel i3-540 @ 3.0 GHz, 4GB RAM, 60GB SSD. NVIDIA GT 430 video card w/ 1MB RAM is only add in card. 300 Watt Power Supply. NVIDIA card is the primary video card and is set up that way in BIOS.
Everything installed fine and seems to work great, except that when I watch HD video, stored on a local NAS on my home network (all gigabit, including cables), about half the time, the Realtek controller will drop to about 10 MBPS, which causes the video to stutter and lockup. The video normally streams across the network at about 23 MBPS max. All other PC's on my network play these videos (home movies) no problem. CPU utilization on the MSI board is only about 5% and the video card's GPU utilization maxes out at only about 65% when the videos are streaming properly. Also, I can copy the video directly to the SSD on this HTPC and the video plays fine. So I think the rest of the hardware on the HTPC is sufficient to do what I'm trying to do. The truly annoying thing is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work.
All the latest drivers have been installed for the motherboard, video card, and Realtek NIC (trying both from MSI's website and Realtek's with the same result). The Windows installation is very clean. I've wiped the SSD twice and done a fresh Windows install and tried this immediately after the Windows install has competed and all drivers installed and again after Windows has completed all updates and I get the same result each time. I've tried several "slow network connection" solutions from Google and none so far have worked.
For anyone old like me, this acts like an IRQ conflict from back in the early days of Windows. Of course Windows 7 doesn't let you mess with IRQ's anymore, at least that I can find. BTW, Device Manager lists the IRQ for the Realtek NIC as "-2", which is very odd to me, but I'm no expert. I'm at the point now of disabling the onboard Realtek LAN and buying a cheap NIC to see if that works, but wanted to try to see if MSI has any suggestions or should I RMA the board? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
BenYeah, I agree that I'll need to upgrade the PSU anyway. 300W is marginal at best for this setup. I would have probably been ok without the add in video card, but the GT 430 really makes a difference compared to the built-in graphics of the i3 and the card was so inexpensive that it was a no-brainer. I may try to take out the GT 430 just to see if the Realtek NIC behaves better, but I think long term I'll just get a cheap PCI-e NIC and that should fix things.
I would normally suspect the SSD as well, but I get the stuttering when I'm using the network streaming. The videos play fine when running directly off of the SSD. I know the SSD could still cause issues, but everything just seems to point to the Realtek chip. Honestly, I really think it's a driver / setting issue and not a bad piece of hardware, although I could be wrong.
If anyone has any other ideas, please keep 'em coming. In the meantime, I'll try a new NIC, etc and let you know what I find.
Thanks,
Ben -
Graphics driver has stopped and recovered
While playing Max Payne 3, Bf3, Far Cry 3 and War Thunder I encounter crashes (After around 40-60 min) with the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" message. I have been monitoring the temps of my motherboard, gpu and cpu and none are exceeding excessive temperatures. My GPU temps maxes out at 75 c under full load 60 min ingame.
It only seems to crash when playing DX10/1X games. Been palying Arma 2 for hours and hours online and never had any problems. Same with source games.
Now the strange strange part. When I play the games in Windowed mode I never encounter these problems.
Anyone had this fixed?

Screen flicker when running battery power?
Hi MSI Fans!
Do you guys have the problem when your screen flickers very badly when running battery (unplugged)\
If mods know how to solve it, it is appreciated if you post here. Thanks a lot!Quote from: Svet on 07-November-14, 06:09:31
try set gpu to max performance from control panel power profiles
note make sure to edit the right power profile which is used when the notebook is running on battery only
Quote from: DerekQ on 07-November-14, 06:53:46
KK I will do that the next time I will use the laptop but really, the battery life is bad and I have to use even more electricity to power the laptop to avoid flicker?
Hmmm it flashed right after a unplugged the computer but for some reason it isn't flickering, maybe when the battery gets low then it flickers? Since last flicker was just about 2 days ago.
Any advice? -
My MPB 13 late 2011 is using too much ram?
Hi my mbp was running slow with 4gb of ram so i upped it to 16gb.
It was previously constantly maxing out at 4gb but right now even at 16gb it is maxing out.
I have attached a screenshot.
is this normal or is there some hardware defects?
THANK IN ADVANCE GUYS~~!
OSX: 10.9.4It it takes 5 minutes to log into steam and 10mins to launch Dota2.
I understand that a mac is not a gaming machine but i believe it shouldnt take that long.
the beachball keep appearing for quite sometime before steam finally logs in.
my system is an I5 processor rig. Is that the cause?
But thanks for the reply regarding usage of all available memory. -
I updated iTunes to 11.0.4 using the automatic update feature of the App Store. (I have a MacPro 3.2 GHz quad core running OSX 10.8.4, kept updated.) After doing this, iTunes constantly maxed out my CPU (well, at least one core...), and became very slow to respond. As an example, under normal circumstances, if I move my mouse over the MiniPlayer window, it would immediately change from showing the name of the current song to the control buttons; after the update, it would take between two and three minutes to do so. iTunes slowed down the rest of the computer as well (since it was a resource hog).
I couldn't find any help online; no one else seemed to be having this problem (but this is aimed at those who do!), so I tried what Tech Support usually suggests as the first fix. I downloaded the iTunes installer from itunes.apple.com and reinstalled the program. Believe it or not, that completely fixed the problem. Now iTunes is working the way it's supposed to.
I hope that, if anyone else has the same problem, they have as much luck with this solution as I did.512 MB RAM is sufficient to run OS X; while 1 GB would be ideal, the difference between 512 MB and 1 GB, while noticable, would be less than the difference between 256 Mb and 512 MB. I would keep the number of concurrently open applications to a minimum, through.
Repeatedly shutting a Mac down via he power button carries a known isk of damaging the hard drive disk directory. If a hard drive window in the Finder shows 110+ GB free space yet you're getting the warning about running out of space on the boot drive, that supports the suspicion that the directory is damaged. That could account for the kernel panics aslso. Did your mention of I did a Utility check include starting up from the OS X Install disk to run Disk Utility> Repair Disk from the Installer menu, as described in Using Disk Utility and fsck? If any repairs are reported, repeat Repair Disk until it gets a clean bill of health or it becomes obvious that Disk Utility cannot fix the drive, in which case you can try DiskWarrior.
Once the hard drive is confirmed good, you need to resolve the kernel panics. Is iTunes up to date? Download and run Memtest and run it to check if any problems are indicated with your RAM. If your software is up to date and RAM is cleared, see if the panics continue when you Start Up in Safe Mode. What peripherals (especially USB ones) do you have attached to the Mac? try disconnecting everything except keyboard/mouse and Ethernet cable and see if that helps.
The iPod Discussions would be a better place to ask about 2-hour tracks but I suspect the iPod's battery Manager thinks it would run out of battery power before reaching the end of the track and hence refuses to play it. Search the iPod Discussions for "reset battery manager" for tips on how to recalibrate the battery Manager. -
I have a PowerMac G4-450 AGP which still meets most of my needs, except disk space. the original 27 Gb drive is constantly maxed out, so I got a new 120 Gb drive and installed it as a slave drive. I moved most of my user files and a lot of apps to the new drive, but still, the main drive is always maxing out due to virtual memory, caches, Library space, etc.
Is there a way, now that I am in this mess, to install OS X on the big drive, and cleanly move all of the installed software from the small drive to the big one, without having to reinstall everything? Is it necessary to re-jumper the drives to make the big one the master if I do this, or can I just leave it as-is?
Thanks
JEHUse Carbon Copy Cloner to move the existing Mac OS X installation from the old drive to the new one.

Logic pro 9 in Mavericks CPU spikes to red
Ok, I was running logic pro 9 in OSX 10.7.5 and my project was running fine. I never once noticed the CPU levels spiking into the red.]
I upgraded to Mavericks and now 2 of the CPU's are constantly in the red!
It is the same in 32 bit or 64 bit mode.
I have 16gb of RAM, quad core i7 late 2011 Macbook Pro. I am using an external 7200 rpm drive.
This is such a joke.
I am about 1 day away from quitting logic forever and buying cubase 7. And after that i'll probably buy a pc.
Anyway I digress..
So now I have 8 cores showin, 2 are constantly maxed out in the red while the others look normal. Is this a bug in Mavericks?
Like i said - nothing else in my setup has changed, same logic 9.1.8, same project, etc.
Are Apple going to fix this? Or will they just tell me to upgrade to Logic X?
Well actually i wouldn't mind trying logic X to see if it has the same issue... but oops Apple forgot to make a trial version.
I have tried changing a whole bunch of settings in Logic, but to be honest I don't see why I c=should even need to try that. Surely it should work the same in Mavericks - if not better right?
Aaaaarrgggh,I am about 1 day away from quitting logic forever and buying cubase 7. And after that i'll probably buy a pc.
While I understand you are venting......
Such comments/"threats' are largely met with the following type of response here...
Please go ahead and do so.... Don't stop.. don't pass go.. don't collect your $200...Just do it.
....because we are all just users like yourself and not Apple employees here.. and so frankly, we don't care either way if you change to a different DAW or switch to a PC.. It makes not one jot of difference to us...
So, please bear that in mind in the future..
If you want to get your feelings heard by Apple then reading this User tip will probably help you do so...
Why doesn't Apple answer the questions that we ask about Logic Pro?
Thanks! -
MBP won't go to sleep with lid open with Lion OS
I had this same problem with Snow Leopard and I fixed it somehow, but when I upgraded to Lion my laptop won't go to sleep when my MBP lid is open. However, it does go to sleep when I close the lid. When the lid is open, the display goes black, but the light doesn't pulsate. If my power adapter isn't plugged it, it completely drains the battery. I've unchecked "wake for network access", turned off bluetooth, and turned off sharing, but it still won't go to sleep when the lid is open.
Anyone having similiar problems? Anyone fixed this problem?
Please help. Thanks!I have the same problem. I upgraded to Lion and now when I close the lid it won't sleep.
Also my CPU and Virutal Memory are constantly maxed out and I'm not doing anything different then I was doing before Lion was installed. In Activity Monitor its showing my System at 40-50% and my user at 40-50% constantly.
Any have any idea how to fix this? -
"Simple" question about Activity Monitor
When Activity Monitor displays percentages, is that percentages relative to what else is running, or is that percentage of the CPU's processing capacity? Something that is using up 30-40% of the CPU's processing capacity is a lot more intense than something that is using 30-40% of the CPU's activity AMONGST the other threads running.
So which is it? Percentage of the CPU's processing CAPABILITY or percentage of what the processor is chewing on right now - regardless of how much more it could chew on.
This will help us decide if our current xserve (1G, 1CPU, G4) is adequate for our needs or we're constantly maxing out the processor and need to look for a faster server. I don't want to replace an older, but still adequate system just because newer is obviously faster. It's entirely possible for a process to use more than 100% of a CPU.
In the case of a dual-CPU machine you could use up to 200% (100% x 2 CPUs).
In the case of a quad-core machine (2 x dual-core CPUs) you could see up to 400% (100% x 4 cores).
An 8-core server could see up to 800%
You see, the 100% mark is based on each CPU core, not all cores combined. I guess that wasn't clear in my earlier response. -
CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101)
One of our clients got this mysterious "Blue Screen" bugcheck 101 error
We dug out the minidump file and analyzed it using WinDBG. Here's what WinDBG shows:

Here's the client's System specs: Windows 7 Pro x64, Intel Core i5 2500K CPU, Asus P8H67-M LE Mainboard
I would appreciate any ideas on what may be causing this issue?STOP 0x101: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT Troubleshooting
1. Thanks to Vir Gnarus (http://www.sysnative.com/forums/members/vir-gnarus.html) for finding this video memory test: https://simtk.org/home/memtest
Alternate download link (w/o registration) located here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadUtils
2. Two other video stress tests (may be more stressful than FurMark):
NOTE: I have had reports that some ISP's will block this website

Sorry, but I don't read the language that this website is made in.
3. Another interesting test that came to my attention: http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK - the program doesn't have a whole bunch of safety features to protect you from yourself!
