GPU crash on Z710
Hello.
I got the Nvidia GT 840M and it crashes everytime it loads 99%. The prtsc below shows how the image of an game for instance has gliches(black spots that appear and disappear). The error is well known but I havent found and answer so far nowere.
The error says: ”Display driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 347.88 stopped responding and has succesfully recovered”
http://postimg.org/image/ywax467pp/
I may have found a temporary solution. The problem is that the system crashes due to GPU overheating, a known nvidia problem for mid-2007 macbook pro's:
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/MacBookProvideofailure.html
When using GPU intensive applications like iMovie, run smcFancontrol2 and set the fans to 5000 rpm. This will keep the temperature nice and low. I've been using iMovie for the past hour now, and it hasn't crashed the system yet ...

T430s graphic card (GPU) crashes randomly
Dear Lenovo,
I have bought my T430s a couple of month ago.
I have a undeterministic problem with the GPU. The computer freezes randomly (mostly during video or streaming, but sometimes only while browsing WWW) once a couple of days with the following result:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtrKaLGHh1M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7yIJttOZgo
It goes on for a couple of minutes and then the computer reboots.
I went to the Lenovo service, but they had no idea what was the reason as they couldn't easily reproduce the problem. As the computer is my tool for work, I couldn't leave it there for 2 weeks. I gave up trying to fix the problem and accepted it.
Now in my company they ordered 8 T430 and 5 out of these 8 experience the same issue as mine. I believe it must be a standard problem and solution should be known. Is there a one?
Kind regards!I have had exactly the same problem with my T430, I have had the motherboard replaced twice now and it has started to happen again! The strange thing is after mobo replacement it works perfectly for months and then out of the blue it will happen, it will then happen very rarely (under once a week) but then it will become more and more frequent.
I have checked the RAM using the Lenovo diag utility at POST and using Memtest and it shows fine. I have used the Lenovo update utility to update everything and still it happens.
Have you altered any of your hardware? I am using a Samsung 840 SSD and Corsair Vengence 2x4GB memory (details below).
RAM:
Corsair CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 NB Vengeance Performance 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3
The problem is the issue is so intermittant that I cannot test it thoroughly without replacing hardware and using for a few weeks or more. When the screen crashes I am not doing anything that is labouring the machine, I usually just have the internet open and notepad as I mainly use it to administer networks, not for streaming etc. and it is on a desk so there is sufficient airflow. -
Intel GPU crash on Sager NP5160
Hi,
I just recently bought a Sager NP5160, which works great for the most part. The Sandy Bridge / NVIDIA Optimus graphics seems to be a bit of an issue, however. I've disabled the NVIDIA card with acpi_call (I don't need it), so am using the integrated card exclusively. Problem is, I occasionally get random GPU lockups after a period of use (anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours). Sometimes they completely kill the system, others the mouse cursor continues to move (though everything else is unresponsive) and the network is still up for me to SSH in. I can consistently reproduce the issue by running an OpenGL-intensive program for about 30 seconds.
As for info on the crash, the whole X screen locks up. If it doesn't hard-lock everything, the sound generally keeps going for about 30 more seconds. the mouse continues to respond while the keyboard does not (can't switch to a TTY), and the network stays up. When that happens I can grab logs and shut down, not much more than that (can't seem to recover the system to a working state). As for the info dump, dmesg reports:
[ 120.601980] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
[ 120.601999] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
[ 120.627446] [drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_wait_request returns -11 (awaiting 29794 at 29790, next 29795)
X just kinda goes:
[ 120.435] (EE) intel(0): Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration.
[ 120.435] (EE) intel(0): When reporting this, please include i915_error_state from debugfs and the full dmesg.
For those interested, an info dump:
i915_error_state
dmesg
lscpi
Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there other packages I should try? Has anyone seen similar issues? Should I submit this as a bug report (to who)? The crashes have been happening with packages both from the main repos as well as testing. I'll probably try compiling the whole shebang (intel-dri, xf86-video-intel, mesa, libgl, etc.) from the AUR -git packages, but can't see that being a whole lot better than what's in testing right now.
Thanks,
- Aaron
Also, random issue with it that's been bothering me, just going to throw this out there:
$ time cat /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online
1
real 0m0.806s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.003s
EDIT UPDATE: Well, -git packages didn't help. Except that mesa-git is slightly broken in the AUR, and didn't install all the libs the DRI driver needed... It caused X to use software rendering - which surprisingly performs so well I didn't even notice OpenGL was software-rendering until I wondered why my CPU usage was so high (and it wasn't vsyncing).

GPU crash on 2.2 macbook pro
While working after a while on either iMovie and iPhoto 11 the GPU tends to crash on my 2.2 Santa Rosa MBP, displaying artifacts on the screen and the only option is to force shut down the computer.
Any ideas-suggestions?

I have a 2011 MBP that does regular (1-2 times per hour) black screen / reboots and show 'GPU Panic' in the log.
I swapped the HD with another one that also has OSX on it, same thing, so it's clearly not a software issue.
Connecting a HDMI cable will cause the computer to reboot 4-5 times before, if you're lucky, it will boot normally.
Browsing with flash tends to do it too as it uses the nVidia GPU.
So, I was thinking about bringing the computer to the shop as now the 2011 computers with GPU problems are fixed by Apple.
But...
If I run some GPU benchmark tool, some burn-in tools, etc... it's stable.
I downloaded Apple's hardware diagnostic tool, which the shops use to determine eligibility, and the computer passed without any problems.
but it will crash the moment I connect it to a TV...
Because of this, most likely the store will tell me the computer is fine...
Has anyone experienced that problem? If there is nothing else shown on the page other than your verified purchase date and that your limited warranty has expired, then I would guess that it is not covered. Your best bet, just to be sure would be to contact Apple and have them check manually.
The serial number of each machine is unique and can identify when the MacBook Pro was manufactured, which is how Apple decide whether or not your machine is eligible for cover within the extension program as it only covers machines manufactured from and to a certain date.
The symptoms on the repair extension page are as follows:
Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen
No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on
Computer restarts unexpectedly
The fact that you've described that your MacBook Pro restarts with GPU Panic errors would imply that it is actually experiencing the issue covered by the extension program, so I would contact Apple and find out whether or not it is covered by the extension program.
Thanks,

Hi all
I've been having sporadic crashes of my GPU when viewing videos on Vimeo. But today it's been crashing when using Photoshop 5.0. Every time I try to select a brush and do any kind of retouching, the screen goes dark and that's a wrap. The computer is still on, but is unresponsive. Safari and Mail were also on at the time. I was working from AC power and not the battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the Crash Report -

Got a MacBookPro6,2, running 10.6.8. According to PowerBookMedic, it was made in 2011, February.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (256MB) + Intel HD Graphics (256MB) - if that helps too.
Here are the problem details and system config: http://pastebin.com/SVtx9FeV
About to install the very latest software update, so hopefully that helps - although I've no idea what could be causing the issue. -
HT203161 Mac Pro GPU crash?
Info:
Early 2008, bought from computer recycling center, name: GEEP
Model: A1186
S/N: G8******XYL
Intel Quad Core Cpu, 2x2.8 GHz, 4GB memory
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB
When i'm playing games (As normal 15 year olds do) after 5 minutes, my screen flashes, freezes, and goes purple with pink bars.
After that I have to reset it with the power button, because i think it's firing back at the motherboard 'cause i don't hear any sounds,
and any keyboard/mouse input that i do has no effect.
Youtube works fine, but other games, such as sims cause it to crash.
The problem started when I upgraded to yosemite, and for AHT, I don't think it compatible, holding down the D key or Option+D during
startup won't work. Apple live Chat told me to go and get it fixed, but i'm stubborn enough not to until i know that there is no fix for this
problem, and most likely, there is.
Any help?
<Personal Information Edited by Host>I don't know, the kernel log doesn't show anything out of the ordinary to me, besides Chrome, which does not crash the GPU.

OpenCL enabled GPU crashes displays on Export.
I'm having a weird ghost of a problem where upon exporting from Premiere Pro CC that dual Apple 23" monitors lose picture and won't turn back on.
The computer continues to run and finishes the export but won't return picture without a hard restart.
I just started running the Mercury Engine GPU OpenCL accelerator since I upgraded from 6.0 to CC and it became available.
The only way I can get an export to run now and be able to use the computer is to turn off the GPU acceleration.
Am I simply overloading the GPU, which would be confusing because this only started happening in the last week and I've been on CC for well over a month.
I've also tested it with AME and it takes longer, but still shuts them down.
System Specs:
2 x 2.93 6-Core Xeon
96 gigs RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5870
OSX Lion 10.7.5
512 gig SSD for startup
12 TB RAIDUpdate:
Kevin, I ran a test with single monitor plugged in like you suggested and it wouldn't crash (Note: I updated to the last version of Mountain Lion before doing so).
So I plugged the second one back in and fired Premiere CC back up and imported a few 4K files that I put in a timeline for a project where they need to run as a split screen. No issues and that was a solid two hours of manipulation and playback on both monitors with very taxing files.
Then thinking that the update to Mountain Lion had been the issue (export times were much improved and RAM and CPU usage were way up) I went back to export an h.264 compression of a 1080p file, which shouldn't be a big deal.
15 minutes into what was listed as a 45 minute export, both screens completely crashed again...the export still finished just fine.
Now the one thing that I did do right as it crashed was that I went to stop the Creative Cloud updater that runs in the background because everything's up to date and I just didn't see the need to keep it on. When I did that the screens shut down. Could be complete coincidence or is it possible that I'm missing a reason that it would need to be on?
I have no idea now. -
9600GT-T2D512-OC - GPU Crash Problems
So I've read the sticky concerning the 8/9 series Nvidia cards and I did what it said...and no solution.
So my 9600GT-T2D512-OC (V801) keeps getting the "Black screen of death" crashes after 10-30 mins of Fallout 3, Bioshock, Wolf: ET, sometimes Crysis.
Computer Specs:
CPU: Intel C2D E4300 @1.8GHz
Ram: 2GB DDR2 @667MHz
PSU: Corsair VX-450 (clearly PSU isn't a problem)
So I just wanted to know if I should RMA or try something else.
Thanks alot guys.Hi <<<first sory for my bad english>>>
i have 8600gt MSI t2d256e-oc with same problem ,that is overcloced version.I try everthing old,new driver and bios same sh...t,but i never try with vga bios to put lower tact memory or what else.

Still getting GPU Crashes after Graphics Update 1.0 MBP 2010
Hi all,
I am very disappointed after updating my computer to the latest Graphics Update. I have been recieving the problem less frequently before the update but now it's happening often.
27/10/11 1:55:32.000 PM kernel NVDANV50HAL loaded and registered.

This is a error relating to the GPU retrieved from console. I recieved the black screen bug after waking my computer up from sleep (closing it after the bug wont sleep), then hard powered-off the computer. After a while, I turned the computer back on only to realise that the computer froze at the login screen (the mouse moves and sound will change, brightness controls show, but does not physically change), with the exact same error code from console but a different time.

I have a MacBook Pro 10.7.2, ALL updates except for Aperture and iPhoto (cbf).
What do I have to do now, other than returning computer to Apple Store (that will be my option if no solutions can be made)? My computer freezes totally randomly, didn't find a solution till now, but I did discover ...
(1) When using an external monitor, can't wake up from sleep, I have to force shutdown . While after the update this problem has Gone. So dealing with external displays is no more the problem, sleep - wake up ,,, all ok.
(2) Before the MacBook Pro video update 1.0, I had no problems at all while using the internal display, Except the Log In screen Freez, and it was randomly, it could happen 3-4 times a month.
(3) After the Update, external display is perfect, but log in screen freez issue increased dramatically.
My Operation system was OS X lion 10.7.2 upgraded from 10.6.8., So I decided to do a Lion clean install.
* I wiped the drive, even made it a new one Partioin, installed 10.7, then 10.7.2 combo update. started to crash even without an external display, and I still didn't even install any applications, so I made the video update, and the computer started to act more crazy.
* Now I installed a new hard drive, with a clean 10.6.8 runnning, I'll test the hardware again, then upgrade to Lion, as I found that the upgrade from 10.6.8 to lion was less troubles, than the Lion clean install.
I hope its not a hardware issue concerning the Macbook Pro, I suspect the Harddrive, as I got a folder named :
( Lost+Found ), though the Lion Clean install on the new drive didn't solve the problem.
( HELP ) !!!
Sorry for the Long post, but I am stuck now, cause I was a mobileMe user, and I upgraded to iCloud, and I am back to 10.6.8 cause I can't deal with the unstability of 10.7.2 and iCloud !!!
MacBookPro 6,2; 15", Mid 2010 ; 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5; 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB - Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
Any Suggestions please ... -
Hi all, too many times I am receiving this weird message after the monitor freezes and starts to show black blinking blocks.
I read on Apple's website that I should post my "problem report" here If I had any problem.
Here it is.
My computer is a late 2008 15 inches Macbook Pro and I run Maveriks 9.2
Do you have any idea about the reason (possibly GPU?) and possible solution?
Thans in advance for your effort
Best
Alessandro

I have a late 2006 24" iMac described by my "product" thing. If I do something graphics related like games, Exposé with a LOT of windows, or even sometimes the Dock, I get garbage all over my screen like lines and blocks. Sometimes I can stop it, but I usually have to restart. The computer functions normally besides the graphics (I connected with SSH to it).
Two questions: Can it be due to overheating? It seems to do it more on hot days, but I haven't really tested. It is currently at 108˚F in a fairly cool room (65˚F?).
Secondly, if I need to replace it, is it possible, or is the graphics card soldered onto the motherboard?Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

The new version release today (7.2.1) fixes the dual GPU crash.
http://blogs.adobe.com/movingcolors/2014/03/31/speedgrade-cc-7-2-1-update/
Dear Adobe,
So I was waiting 4 months for a patch, what doesn't work correctly for me. I have Quadro 6000, and GTX580. (2 cards because of another application - I don't want to promote it here).
If I play the timeline with 7.2.1 with both cards enabled, I have no realtime. If I disable GTX580 in my control panel and run the same project also with 7.2.1, it plays realtime.
So what exactly did you patched? The startup error screen only? Who are your beta testers and what they actually do? I liked Speedgrade by IRIDAS very much but since you bought it it is unusable for me. I have never seen so many bugs in one application - just compare this discussion forum with other forums.
My setup:

Frequent segfaults caused by gpu
Everything seems stable on start up but as programs run longer they become more likely to segfault. Tabs in chromium begin to segfault constantly and Firefox crashes almost as soon as its opened and all other programs crash but more sporadically. I am not sure how to resolve this or even determine if its hardware failing or a driver problem. I also cant think of any specific update this behavior coincided with.
