GPU Hack Question

Hi! So my new computer just came and I want to do the GPU hack so my card can work. I found a tutorial online for that, but there's one step I don't know how to do. It tells me to "Find the file "GpuSniffer.exe" and run it in a command prompt (cmd.exe).
The thing is I don't know how to run a file in a command prompt, so I'm kinda stuck. If anyone can help me know what to do that would be great. BTW I'm using Windows 7.

You will type in GeForce GTX 460
Here are the steps:
Click on the Start icon in the bottom left corner of
Windows 7.
1. Then click on All Programs and then click on the
Accessories folder.
2. Look in the Accessories folder for Notepad and
RIGHT click Notepad
3. The left click on Run as Administrator
4. Once Notepad opens up, click on File and then Open
5. Navigate to the
Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 folder
6. Find the file: cuda_supported_cards.txt then click on it to
select the file, then click Open
7. You will see a list of cards
8. Go to the end of the list and add your video card.
For Example, above it listed the video card as:
GeForce GTX 460
9. Now just add the name of the card between the
“Renderer string:” and the forward slash “/” to the
cuda_supported_cards.txt file.
Using the example above, you would add only the
GeForce GTX 460 part to the file.  Make sure you enter your
video card correctly. It is case sensitive.
10. Click on File and click Save.  Then exit Notepad.

  • Upgraded to 5.5-- GPU Hack now doesn't work

With Premiere CS5 (Master Suite) the GPU hack outlined here worked great with my NVidia 470M card installed in my Sager 7280. But that changed with the 5.5 Master Suite upgrade. To start with, I was unable-- after 5 tries-- to install 5.5 without getting fail warnings with "Exit Code: 6" messages. In searching around I see I'm far from alone on that count.
I completely uninstalled CS4 & CS5, any/all Adobe apps I could find and ran their Cleanup Tool. Still get errors even though the apps themselves seem to run ok with the 4th install effort.
The procedure outlined on http://www.indiev.org/?p=308 seemed to work fine with CS5, did they change something so that it no longer works with 5.5?? Any insights much appreciated.
    Tim
    (error file attached)

    Bill,
    >> When you uninstalled and reinstalled did you run the cleanup script before you reinstalled?
Yep, I did run the script.
When I updated the graphics driver the person I spoke to at Sager directed me to the latest NVidia driver for the 7282 and that's what I tried. As I recall, there wasn't any update specifically for my 7280. HOWEVER, I went back today and checked and there was a link to an updated driver for the 7280. It's possible it was there before and I didn't notice it but he assured me the other would be the equivalent.
In any event, I'm happy (and relieved) to report that when I downloaded & installed this last driver-- MPE is back and all's well again.
    I do appreciate the input.

  • Re: CS5.5 GPU Hack - Not Working?

I tried the EXACT same steps with Adobe Premier Pro CS5.5 to apply the GPU hack but after modifing the cuda_supported_cards.txt file Premier Pro CS5.5 will not start.  It will just crash.  But when I restore the cuda_supported_cards.txt it then starts up correctly (but with no GPU hack obviously).
What's wrong?  Anyone have the same problem?
FYI: I am using the Shipped Boxed Version of the software as it was shipped to me.

It worked!  OK so what I had to do was change the FIRST line of the text file to my graphics card's name.
The reason why it DIDN'T work before is because I was APPENDING my graphics card's name to the END of the text file, hence I was increasing the number of text lines by ONE.
So I think CS5.5 does a check for TOTAL lines in text, however if you change ONE of the EXISTING lines in the text file then it will work.
Please note I was using a shipped boxed version rather than the downloadable version.

  • IMAC Premiere CS6 and GPU's question. (Updated)

The only new iMac's which might support GPU CUDA operation in Premiere CS6, are the 27 inch ones using the GTX 675MX or the GTX 680MX video chipset. Neither of these are on the cuda supported list but of course they could be added to the appropriate file to enable them to work. Is there anyone out there successfully using them in GPU acceleration mode? If so please let me know if they do work and which of the two you have. I can then argue my case with the boss.
Also, is anyone using them with Windows 7? Our Mac's are dual boot.
    Bye Andrew

Ok, I've upgraded to Mountain Lion now and that hasn't made Premiere any faster. However I've just been looking at the Scratch Disk configuration and they are all set to 'Same as Project'.
So here's my new question. I have 4 internal HDD's. At the moment the OS and Premiere Pro is on disk 1. Disk 2 is currently recieving my Premiere Pro project files and disk 3 and 4 are completely empty ready for footage or anything else. What is the best way to set up the Scratch Disks and Premiere Pro's Media cache(s)?
For reference the scratch disk options are currently:
    1) Captured Video - Same as Project
    2) Captured Audio - Same as Project
    3) Video Previews - Same as Project
    4) Audio Previews - Same as Project
Currently my 'Media Cache Files' are being sent to disk 1 and this is also where my 'Media Cache Database' is located.
    So what should I change?

  • The GPU "Hack"

    Hello all,
What are the ramifications of performing the online "hack" that would enable other Nvidia cards...I enabled my GTX 460, and it seems to be recognizing it fine, but then I was a bit worried about violating a EULA (I don't want to do ANYTHING unethical, and if it is, I'll reverse it), or does it just disqualify you from any support issues related to errors regarding enabling the card, or does it invalidate your warranty? Thanks, I just don't have the money to drop $250 on a card right now, and would love to take advantage of the GPU, but also always want to do the right thing, and never violate any agreement...sorry....just want to be sure that there are no ethical issues involved (most importantly), but secondarily if there are any hardware/software problems that could arise....
    Thanks,
    Ben

If you have doubts about violating the EULA you can get the GTX 470  which require no hack to enable hardware MPE as it is one of the cards  officially supported by Adobe. These cards (470) are selling at a discount  right now probably because the rumored replacement (570) is about to be released in a month or so.

  • GPU switching question before buying a GS70 Stealth

    Hi.
I do some hobby 2d game development and want to buy a laptop to work with when I'm not at home, so I'm interested in this model from a performance perspective (not to mention gaming).
I like the idea of having the Nvidia GPU and the Core i7's GPU to test stuff on seperately. I know that it will auto-switch when gaming, but can I actually tell the laptop which one I wish to use for a given .exe file (i.e. my own projects)?
    Thanks.

Now that I own it and in case anyone else has a similar question, you can right-click on something and the menu has options to choose which GPU to run on. Very nice.
Super laptop....that 5 second boot time
You should also be able to tell what GPU is being used by the color of the power button, I believe. I'm not 100% certain that the GS70 is the same as all the other laptops, but all the other laptops are a single color when the Intel iGPU is being used, and a different color when the NVidia GPU is being used.
My GT70 is white when the Intel GPU is in use, and Orange when the NVidia GPU is in use.

  • Hacker Question

Hi everyone, I recently read a story about a hacker kid in NY who downloaded his iSight camera app onto the Apple Store computers to secretly take pictures of the customers who used the macs he bugged.  My question is, are hackers able to take pictures/view you through your mac's iSight without the green light going on to indicate the camera is being used?
    Thanks.
    NNP

Macs are just about as hackable as any computer, but have flown under the radar for sometime because of such fewer numbers than Windows boxes. But that has been changing over the past few years so hackers have a renewed interest in Macs and OS X.
But having a hardware router between the modem and the network, password protecting both access to the router as well as any wireless network provides decent protection against all but the most intent and experienced hacker. And, their interest is only a matter of whether something is on your computer worth taking the time to get. Being careful what websites you visit, staying away from unknown links, avoiding spam and phishing efforts, and otherwise being careful when you surf will also help. And, if you do any webshopping only use sites with secure ordering systems and never release any credit or personal information in the clear - encrypt it first.

  • CPU/GPU fans question

    Hi everyone,
i own a MSI GS70 2PE and i wonder is there any kind of fans that i can buy that has lower DBI or w.e it's called fan noise level? since when i etc go into bios fans are loud and when i do os install fan becomes loud but goes lower and is on low level but still quite noisy so i wonder is there any kind of laptop fan that gives lower fan noise level but still keeps cpu and gpu cold? since my Lenovo Y510P had dual fans 1 for gpu and 1 for cpu but cpu one was really quiet it was on but hardly any noise on it's low level thats why i'm posting this to see if anyone know fans i can buy for my laptop

    Quote from: RX-8 on 27-January-15, 12:35:27
The latest version of EC firmware on the official website would be okay.
Given the same heat dissipating ability, lower RPMs mean more air to go through at the same time, which requires re-design the style & angle of the blades, or just re-design a wider diameter of the fan.
( GT72's fans are the quietest fans I've heard of, but they are so big! )
Even if you can find such fans, they may not fit the internal space which GS70 has, or can't be fasten well on the body.
And I didn't see there's any second source of the fans for GS70.
To suppress the fan noise, you can also consider about decreasing the heat generated. If you're not always playing the games or kicking its performance to the edge, just set the Power Options to Balanced or Power saver (sleeping time will be altered too).
well thing is i'm doing really low load on cpu % yet fan in windows 8/8.1 remains on and makes loud noise even rpm is like 3000RPM :/ i have seen other laptops with such load having no noise fro the fan yet fan is blowing out air but not loud as gs70 has but what makes mine quiet is whenever fan goes 0RPM thats quiet point so i will just have to try and find os that wont eat to much cpu up on idle mode.

  • GPU restart question on a 2013 13 inch Macbook Pro w/Retina Display

Hi, I was just searching online and there was no freezing or anything,  but then I see a little alert saying something about the graphics needing to be restarted and if I should send an error report.  I searched the reports the diagnostic reports and saw this
    11/30/14 7:23:56.061 PM DumpGPURestart[1116]: com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.crashreporter.writereport.gpuRestart
    com.apple.message.signature: Kernel

    com.apple.message.signature3: UNKNOWN
    com.apple.message.result: noop
    com.apple.message.summarize: YES
I was just curious as to what is this all about.  Is my GPU going bad?
The only thing graphic wise that I noticed that since upgrading to Yosemite,  when I restart the Macbook or power it on, when my Wacom Cintiq is connected to it, there's some flickering on the screen after I log in.  Its something I don't notice when I power up my Mac Mini with the Cintiq attached.

yyou may be right. I ran a diagnostic, there was no issues. I was looking online, and tthere seems to be issues with Retina Display MacBooks with discrete gpus in Yosemite, as it switches between graphics. Which would make sense with mine, since any issue I had happened since the switch.

  • IPhone 4S hack question

I have some weird things going on with my phone. Sometimes safari opens by itself and I play this game diamond dash which has purchases and it showed up that I purchased things. I have rationalized it to maybe i pressed purchase by accident but I am not sure anymore and so I think my phone is hacked. Any advice?

I dont think that your iphone is hacked. Update your ios device to the newest ios version which is 7.0.6. This update fixes some security bugs, thus making your phone more secure and less likely hackable. Hope I helped. Cheers

  • Lenovo T430s GPU Heat Question

I have a T430s, i7 with Nvidia graphics.  In my work I am thinking of shifting some of the heavily parallel operations to the GPU using the CUDA interface, but am worried about the heat that doing so will generate.
On the Hardware Maintainance Manual, it's not immediately clear ( from the thermal fan picture) that the GPU is connected to the heatsink in addition to the CPU.  Is it in fact connected?  If not, what will happen if I stress it continuously (at approximately the level of heavy gameplay)?

Although I don't have a definitive answer. You may be able to locate the repair manual for that model to see the motherboard.
GPU's should be heat sunk but to what level of duty will it handle. I am amazed at how many people buy the very small form fact and wonder why their system have heating and fan cooling problems. The large cases are better able to cool and the heat sinks should be larger. Placing the notebook on one of those notebook cooler bases will help to provide cool air and flow to the underside. Most plug into the USB port.
There are utilities you can install to display CPU temperature and some might also do the GPU. I use Core Temp on my system for that purpose and monitor it in the task bar.
I doubt however you can run like that extensively without taking a toll on the motherboard.

  • Attempted hacking question

    Hi everyone:
I received an email this evening detailing a supposed Apple Support phone call I was purported to have made yesterday (I did not, and I am the only one in my family who does when necessary). So I called Apple to inquire about it, and when I explained the situation, they confirmed that someone (he called himself Patrick) did indeed call them with my iMac's SN and my email address, requesting Apple reset my Admin password. Of course Apple did not because this 'Patrick' could not confirm my other information and Apple can't do this, but I am a bit unnerved. I have a Centurylink router with a password and use OS X Lion. Does anyone know how this 'Patrick' could have obtained my SN and email? And any suggestions for advanced security practices on my end?  I really would appreciate insight.
On a side note - both my hubby and I noticed last evening our router kept dropping the connection, which was a first. It lasted a few hours. Could that have been the hacker attempting to gain access?
    Thanks for any advice.

What encryption does your Router Use? Hopefully WPA2 with a good Password?
Yahho was hacked a couple of months ago for about 450K emails & some passwords, which somehow led to linkedin, gMail, Facebook, Twitter, & a few more breaches.

  • Another iphone hack question

after my recent paranoia of someone having personal photos of mine because I think they have hacked into my phone, I was reading an article that was card 2011 and it was for this spy software that you don't need to have access to the phone to hack it that the hacker installs it their phone and they call the phone number they want to hack and bam bam it's done. Is this true or had the recent iOS updates dating back two years ago to now have fixed this?

No, that cannot be done unless your iPhone is hacked/jailbroken.

  • Upgraded OS gpu driver question

I recently had a hard drive failure and replaced it with a new drive. The system originally ran Windows 7 (64 bit) but I upgraded to Windows 8.1 (64 bit).
I noticed it only installed the Intel graphics drivers and not the AMD catalyst drivers. It has a intergrated HD Radeon 6770 m(2gb) gpu.
I've installed the latest AMD catalyst but I'm not noticing much of a difference, with certain games only seeing the Intel driver. The game Skyrim use to run at High settings before the hard drive swap now it runs on low (auto detect).
Should I revert back to only the Intel drivers or is there something else I'm missing? Is it safe to run thr AMD catalyst?
