GPU Upgrade iMac 2007
Hi,
so I won an iMac mid 2007 20 inch. It has a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB pre installed. I believe this is pluged in by a pci-e port so i was wondering if the card is upgradeable and if so with which cards. I believe it has to a speciel type of boot room or something but not sure.

Upgrading iMac 2007 (7,1) Memory
I seem to find my trusty iMac a bit sluggish and want to upgrade the RAM (that and i was given a copy of Windows 7 as a gift) so 1 gig isnt enough to run two modern OS's. I've been doing a lot of research (making sure i know what i'm doing and making sure i don't screw up) and I know what kind of RAM to get and how to install it and everything.
what i'm not sure is if I remove the previous DIMM (1 gig) and put in a 2 gig DIMM, would 1 gig be subtracted from the new DIMM as it would occur in a PC? Since i'm hoping to max out my machine with 4 gigs, i'd really like to know before i shell out the cash for two 2 gig DIMMS and instead opt for just one 2 gig DIMM.

I recently upgraded my 2007 vintage iMac from its original Leapord OS to the new Mavericks OS and now its really running slow. I've run disk utilities to confirm everything is ok from the hard drive standpoint ... but am wondering if this is simply a memory issue. I only have 2G of DDR2 SDRAM installed. Is there a minimum recommended for the Mavericks OS? Any other recommendations? Time to launch any app has more than tripled from what it was before the OS upgrade.
A combination of things:
1. Slower CPU and GPU.
2. Not enough RAM installed.
3. Upgraded from Leopard.
I would have backed up my files, erased the hard drive, then reinstalled Snow Leopard. Downloaded Mavericks and upgraded Snow Leopard directly. Then I would restore my files.
Upgrade your RAM to at least 4 GBs if supported by your model.
Backup your files, then do the following:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
Want to upgrade from 10.6.8 to yosemite and I have a imac 2007, and enough disk space. but when trying to download, I get a "I can't" due to a list of possible issues, but how to isolate the problem?

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

I have an iMac (2007) with OSX 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade it to mountain lion. It tells me I must have OSX 10.6 or higher but it won't let me upgrade to that. Is it possible or do I have to buy another iMac? Love my iMac! I'll never have a PC again. Macs all the way.

Problem: slow connection. I have an iMac (2007) running on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I just had my internet speed increased from 1 to 3 Mbps but my connection slowed down considerably. Do I have to change any setting on the computer, and how?
One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit. ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering. I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.

I bought used iMac 2007 with Mavericks installed but iPhotos was missing. I reinstalled Mavericks but didn't get iPhoto. Now if I want it I have to buy it? Is there a way to install it without having to pay for it?
If you own any verson of iPhoto '11 then there is a free update to version 9.5.x in the App store
If you own a previous version of iPhto (iPhoto '09 or earlier) then as always an upgrade to a new version (in this case iPhoto '11) is a paid upgrade and you purchase it in the App store
and no OS update/upgrade contains a version of iPhto - it is a seperate program and although it is included as part of every new Mac it is not a free program and never has been sinve version 1 or 2 (I forget when it changes)

My iMac 2007 keeps crashing, forcing me to conduct a cold reboot on each occassion. (Unplug machine wait 15 seconds, hold down power button for 5 seconds , etc) Should I upgrade to Mountain Lion to help resolve the problem? or are there any specific tests I can conduct to diagnose the fault?
No what you need to do is isolate whether it is software or hardware causing crashes. You can't upgrade an unstable system anymore than build on an unsteady house of cards. Backup your data and then we can isolate the causes of the crashes.

iMac 2007 (I bought it in August 2007) has a strange series of random crashes every two days and with differents tasks (Safari, Pages, IPhoto etc...). Suddenly and for no apparent reason, the screen freezes. It doesn't obey any order from the mouse or the keyboard... We have to force reset by switching off and so many times with the subsequent problems for de HD. We change the RAM to see if the problem was there and no way. Later on we have to change the HD because as a result of so many crashes the HD was nearly broken. We change the keyboard, the mouse... We delete the HD and we reinstalled from the original DVDs that came with the iMac... Then we upgrade to 10.6.8 and the same problems. We upgrade to 10.8 and the same problems... and this happen for nearly a year...
Apart from these random and continous crashes the iMac goes smoothly when it has a day without crashing out.
My question: does anyone know if this problem is recognize by apple as a manufacturing problem with these series of iMacs?
does anyone know a way to solve the continuoys crashes?

It takes forever opening folders ... (iMac 2007 - Leopard)
In fact, everything is slowing down, but I can live with that, except for opening existing folders or naming newly created folders.
Is it usefull to upgrade to Snow Leopard (> Mountain Lion) to speeding things up?

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

I want to upgrade my 2007 Mac desktop to 10.5 Leopard. I am currently running on 10.4.11. When I put the leopard disk into the drive all it does is make a weird noise and then spits the disk right back out. It doesn't do this with any other discs, only this software. Is it still possible to update this computer?

Before you do upgrade to Snow Leopard, make sure your Mac meets the requirements.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Make sure the disc you tried using doesn't have any fingerprints or smudges on it. The optical drive can't read the disk otherwise.
If your Mac won't read the disc, might be a good idea to rule out any problems with the startup disk BEFORE trying to upgrade the system.

I have given my iMac 2007 model running mountain lion OSX 10.8.3 to a friend and she doesn't have an external hard drive to back up would using iCloud be as good to back up files pictures etc and can I find them again if lost please.
