GR Stress - software on my desktop after Genius Bar visit
Anyone have an idea what GR Stress does or is?
It seems like the Genius Bar guys left it on my machine after a recent check up visit ...
This application was left on my MacBook Pro after a recent visit to the Apple Store. I thought my hard drive was bad so one of the geniuses must have run this GR Stress application. I haven't dug into it very far, but it seems like it opens several instances of Chess and Grapher and monitors the performance of the machine.

Missing Applications After Genius Bar Visit
I got my MacBook Pro in August 2011. I've only had it for a year, yet for some reason my hard drive crashed. I took it to the Genius Bar and they gave me a new hard drive, which was covered by my Apple Care. I didn't back anything up, so any pictures, documents, music, etc. is gone. That was my fault, I know. However, I just noticed that my iPhoto application as well as my iCloud application, both of which came with my Pro, are now gone completely as well. I'm not sure what else is, but I know for sure that those two are. Is this because I didn't back up my Mac? Or should I go back to the Genius Bar and find out if they can be put back on since those are two things that definitely came with my Pro. Any help please! I'd really rather not have to buy them both (and whatever else is missing) again.
A August 2011 new machine is a Late 2011 model and it came with 10.7 Lion preinstalled, which Apple reinstalled 10.7 on the new drive, however to download your free included iLife you need to follow the directions here as it requires your Apple ID and password, which the Apple Store can't do for you usually (well they can but don't for your security most likely)
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion
If you erase install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion installed, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start (up) from OS X.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

MacFUSE Appeared on My MBP after Genius Bar Visit. What is it?
I am not sure if I am posting this question in the correct forum. It deals with a plug-in program that was installed under my OS X.
I visited the Genius Bar recently due to a problem with burning DVDs on my MBP that I have. Other than them taking it at the back of the store for 10 minutes - under the pretext they were going to replace the Super Drive (which they did not, despite what the paperwork says, as I opened the machine and the optical drive has dust specks on it from the fans' action which clearly indicates it is not a new one) - and booting OS X from an external drive, they burned a number of DVDs, which all failed. Nothing else. (Their conclusion was to replace the logical board which is now on order.)
However, a new program is showing up under System Preferences -> Other, that is called MacFUSE. I did not have this program before the visit to the Genius Bar, I never installed such thing and they never mentioned to me about installing it. What does this program do and why is is there? Thank you.Michael9009 wrote:

[MacFUSE|http://www.tuaw.com/2008/12/09/macfuse-updated-to-2-0-now-includes-64-bit-and-s now-leopard-supp> ... +is awesome. It allows you to mount a remote server's filesystem, view your iTunes library in Finder, read from and write to NTFS hard drives, and much more!+
and why is is there?
my guess is it was installed by the folks @ the genius bar.
keep it. it's not harmful and may prove useful.

Where do I find iLife suite to reinstall? After Genius Bar reformatted/imaged HD, it did not reinstall
Install from the original source. The restore disks that came with your system or the purchased iLife DVD or the App store

Safari won't start after Genius Bar restore
My laptop had been randomly crashing for about 2 days so I took it into the Genius Bar and they kept it over night and said they ended up just doing a restore. So far it has not crashed since I got it back.
However, now I cannot start Safari - the dock icon begins to bounce and then stops and I get the crash report. I'm running Lion and I was running Safari 6, but I am not sure what I am running now after the restore, it looks like from the crash report that it has gone back to version 5 and maybe thats the issue, but software update reports there is no updates available.
I tried removing all plugins, but that didnt help. Also, it happens with more than 1 user account.
Here is the crash report, any help diagnosing is appreciated.
Thanks

Missing hard drive space and files after Genius Bar installed new Hardware
I took my computer to genius bar. They installed a new CD/DVD drive. My computer wouldn't load when I got it home, so I reinstalled OSX and now I am missing tons of hard drive space and all my old files (which have been backed up). How do I fix this?

Superdrive noise after Genius Bar replacement
Hello,
after a superdrive replacement at Genius Bar, this one is doing noise at start and when Macbook Pro 5,1 exits from sleep.
I check the firmware version and it's KA19.
I try to applicate the Superdrive Firmware Update 3.0 that i had from an old time machine bakcup (because i can't install it from this link : http://support.apple.com/kb/DL975 ) but it's annoucing that the Firmware is already applied (i did it 2 years ago with the old superdrive).
My system version is 10.7.3
What can i do and how i can apply this update to suppress this noise ?
Thank you for your requests and sorry for the english i'm french !"It always came on whether from a Cold boot or from waking from sleep. It is the system checking the drive. You may of not heard it before but it was happening. Just changing the drive would not change the normal function of the computer."
Sorry to say that but it's not true.
I have a mi-2012 MacBook Pro and during 4 months, it never did the noise when waking from sleep.
Now it does this check when it's waking from a long sleep and i hate this mecanic noise from my silent MacBook
I would love to disable Superdrive completely because i don't use it at all but nobody has helped me doing this ..
If somebody knows how to prevent this behaviour and go back like before, or to completely stop SuperDrive, i would be happy .. -
Sudden macbook pro screen problem after genius bar "repair"
I took my 15" early 2011 MBP (still under 3 year applecare) to the genius bar after I discovered the battery had swollen up and was pushing the trackpad up. They replaced this and I also asked them to reapply the thermal paste as I felt like it was running hot causing the fans to increase with relatively little load (apparently there was a problem with the early 2001 MBPs and thermal paste which is well documented elsewhere). Machine worked great when they handed it back to me in the store.
But when I turned it on a couple of days later, serious problems! First there was a messed up blue / grey / purple / green screen with lines all over it & it didn't boot. I felt like the DVD-drive noise it usually gives sounded lower pitched than usual too but I could be imagining that.. I turned it on & off several times and each time a similar (but slightly different) screen. I tried various different "startup key" combinations eg safe boot, hardware test without success.
However after I reset the NVRAM I got just a grey screen which then booted into snow leopard. It could've been a coincidence that this happened after the NVRAM reset, I don't know. Anyway, the mac is sort of working - great!
BUT the screen colours are still messed up. Looks like what I'd imagine you'd get if you tried to run in 16 colours. There's also some flickering near the bottom of the screen. Weirdly though, when I click and hold on some items, eg in the dock, the colours seem more normal again on parts of the screen.
Examples below:
1. colours look terrible here!
2. the blue triangle isn't right at all. (note the curvy lines are just an artifact from the camera)
3. however when I click there is is some improvement to some of the colours on bits of the screen eg the dock items (except the logic icon which still looks wrong) - I don't think the big circle in the middle is right (that's not a flash, it's on the screen).
I've tried to run the hardware test by holding down D on start up and aside from taking longer to boot, I don't get any options to run tests.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?? As the colours are correct sometimes, I'm inclined to think it's a video card problem rather than a screen problem. System profiler says I have and AMD Radeon HD 6490M & Intel HD 3000. I'm just wondering if they could've somehow damaged the video card when reapplying the thermal paste. But I really don't know.
I will book another genius bar appointment but there's a 1 week wait and it's kind of annoying!
Thanks.bastienvans
There's no recall for early 2011 machines - only for mid-2010 models.
But you're right - there's a growing thread here of hose having problems with the early 2011 GPU. Odd that it doesn't seem to affect those with late 2011 models.

4S becomes unresponsive after Genius Bar restore.
A member of the Genius Bar restored my iPhone 4S because of some 'minor' errors such as crashing apps taking up space. She done it yesterday and now it has become more unresponsive than ever.
Whenever I'm in a call I can't unlock it or use it whilst in a call (FaceTime, FaceTime audio, skype, Facebook call) I have to hard reset the phone which is kind if annoying!
She also said these words "it'll speed up your iPhone making it as fast as it's supposed to be". Its not fast. Not fast at all, infact I can tell that it's more slower and laggier .-.
Can someone please give me some insight on how to fix this?Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Screen issues after Genius Bar repair
I had to have the ODD replaced in my 2010 27" iMac. The Genius Bar experience was, erm, an experience.
I got my iMac back today and, after turning it on, discovered what appear to be dead pixels on my screen. They definitely weren't there before I left the machine with them. From briefly looking around the web, it appears it may be (i.e. I hope it is) dust that's trapped behind the screen. Surely Apple have the equipment to allow them to prevent such occurances?
Should I demand they do the job properly, or am I expecting too much?
Had I ben told about this before hand, I might not have opted to have the ODD replaced (as I only did it because it's still under warranty). It's just very frustrating as the Apple Store is not local, and the 27" iMac isn't the easiest thing to carry around.
The pixel anomalies weren't there before I took it in to have the ODD replaced. I expected that Apple, of all companies, would have done the best job possible. I hope it is just dust, and not newly dead pixels.
I'm sure Apple will do the right thing, but it's just such a pain to have to take it back to them again (it will be my third journey there in a week).
Thanks for the responses. -
Worth a genius bar visit or not ?
After my recent problems with 3G signal and my signal/calls dropping I have booked in to see the genius bar. Is it actually worth me going to get this sorted or will it be a wasted effort.
My phone is still under the repairs and services warranty also .
Any help is much appreciatedIs it actually worth me going to get this sorted or will it be a wasted effort.
Absolutely it's worth your time. The geniuses have the ability to ascertain if your phone is working properly or not & replace it on the spot if they deem it necessary. -
Genius bar visit with a Macbook Pro with some water damage - question
HI,
Yesterday, I dropped a half of a cup of water and some of it went onto my macbook pro keyboard while it was on. It really didn't look like it was that much, and I did my best to dry it right away. I turned it upside down to get the water out. I turned it off and on again and it would only boot up in safe mode and when I tried to type it was only caps even though the caps lock was off. I left it upside down on a towel, powered off, for 24 hours. Today I took it to the Apple store to the Genius bar. .It booted up (albeit very slowly) in regular mode this time, which was an improvement. I opened notes and typed something, still only in caps without the lock on. The technician looked at it, and said she'd take it in the back and open it up to see what damage there was. After a short time she came back with it closed back up and showed me pictures on her iphone of where she found water inside. She showed me one picture where there was already mold. Could that happen that fast? Why wouldn't she open it in front of me so i could see, or if she needed to bring it in the back to get it open, then bring it back to me so i can see the damage? She then tells me it will cost 799 to fix unless i want to replace it and a new one is 1199. I feel like I was a little duped. Any thoughts? Is that the way all stores operate when they need to open a macbook? Thanks. Jeannie"She showed me one picture where there was already mold. Could that happen that fast?"
Hold long do you think it takes for mold to grow? Regardless, mold can grow quickly and, despite you taking excellent care of your computer earlier, there's always a chance that moisture had entered your computer and the mold has been there for a while. Regardless, you can always take your computer to another Apple store, and ask for it to be opened in your presence. -
To give a little background; my MacBook is my baby. I keep it as safe and clean as I possibly can. The only damage that has come to it is a tiny dent in the left corner of the screen, when my little sister took it, ran, and dropped it on a wooden floor. It's my pride and joy, and I would never mistreat my computer. I don't loan it to friends, I always know where it is, and I do my best to keep it from dying. The only thing I do which is problematic is not shutting it down often enough; I usually keep it on for days at a time, I don't sleep much and spend a lot of time on my computer, but for such a high price, I was expecting that it could handle it. Onto the problem.
My computer was having minor problems with the trackpad and keyboard and had been since I'd bought it, but I hadn't been noticing it much until recently. I remember my mom pointed it out when I first got it and I told her she was crazy. I suspected a little hardware problem that my AppleCare would cover. When I went in to the Genius Bar, they opened up my computer and told me I had serious water damage. I was shocked as I'd never brought my computer close to water; I don't bring it in the bathroom, so no condensation, I have never spilled on it, I don't usually eat or drink around it, etc. I was given very minimal detail or explanation, simply told over and over that it was water damage, and they told me my AppleCare had been deactivated, which made me even MORE upset. The store told me it would cost almost $1000 to fix, at which point I was about to cry since that's almost the cost of my computer. I was going to wait until I got home to get an opinion from my hometown Apple Store, as they've known me for a long time and I was upset with the unhelpful service at the Genius Bar around my college.
My current problem is that I don't think I can wait until May. My computer has been acting up ever since the Genius Bar visit earlier this month, my screen is shaking and the color is going in and out, sound is acting strangely, and I'm really, really upset since none of these problems existed before my visit. I didn't feel it was a problem until recently, since it was pretty scattered and I felt like if I ignored it until I got home in mid-May, I could get it fixed then. Now, I feel as though something was jostled or screwed with while they were checking my computer and it's causing me a lot of problems, problems that are interfering with my use of this otherwise awesome device. I really love my MacBook, it's the best computer I've had, but I am at my wits end.
AppleCare is insurance, and I don't understand how they could take it away for something that I have no control over. When I bought AppleCare, I was told it would cover any damage that happened to the hardware or software of my computer, which is the whole reason I bought it! I wouldn't have wasted money on it if I knew this was a way to take the responsibility of fixing my computer away from Apple! I am beyond angry with the service I received, the "rules" of AppleCare, and the performance of my computer after the visit. I can barely type this since my screen refuses to stay still or one color! I was having absolutely no screen problems before this visit!!!
This is my last resort; I may return to the Genius Bar sometime next week for a reassessment. I am extremely upset with the service I have received and the new problems arising. This computer is barely seven/eight months old. It should NOT be having these problems. I can't help but think it was a manufacturing error and I was given an incorrect diagnosis. As a final, desperate cry for help, I thought I'd turn to the support forum for advice; is there anything you guys think I should be doing or any way I can possibly fix this problem myself/without Apple since apparently I have no insurance even though I paid $250 for problems like this to be covered?Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Hold the Power button until your Mac turns off, and turn it on again. As you tried to install a firmware update, plug the MacBook to its charger before turning it on.
Note that firmware updates are installed in the next startup, so don't worry about this, as the update hasn't been installed yet.
Respecting to other freezes, it may indicate a hardware problem. Check if the same freezes happen in the future -
Genius Bar Feedback on Battery Issues
Ok..so I know there are hundreds of posts regarding various battery issues. I thought it might be helpful to post feedback on my genius bar visit today regarding my battery.
The issue with my battery is that the meter seems to be stuck at about 80% full, regardless of how much I use the iPhone or how long I charge it. I have no accurate way of knowing how much battery life I have left. I have even played 6+ hours of straight video to drain the batter and the meter never moves.
Fortunately, my lightning bolt icon (upper right corner) does eventually change to an a/c plug which tells me that the battery is fully charged even though the big green battery is always at 80%.
So the guy at the genius bar tried and inquired about all the usual tricks already discussed in this forum (restore, plug AC adapter to wall instead of USB, turn off wifi, bluetooth, etc). and concluded that it's most likely a software issue.
He did say however that the the usage statistics frequently mentioned here are controlled by AT&T and that it's functionality depends on AT&T sending some sort of over-the-air signal. Don't know if I buy that.
So, in a nutshell, they did not offer to replace the phone (not that they had any in stock anyway), but instead made a notation of the problem using my serial number and told me to wait for an Apple software update, which will most likely correct the problem. If it doesn't, then they can assume a hardware conflict and issue an replacement.
I know this is getting long, but I would like to add that my battery life itself seems fine. I just never know what I have left by looking at any of the two meters.
G5 Duo-Core Mac OS X (10.4.10)My original iPhone had poor battery performance and would not reset the usage stats. There is no Apple Store near me, so Apple support sent a service phone and I sent mine in. The service phone has good battery performance and correctly reset the stats. I was notified that the original phone could not be repaired and a new replacement was sent to me. The new iPhone has great battery performance, but no matter what I try, the usage stats won't reset. Today I was told by Apple support that they believe this is a software issue and a revision would be developed to address the problem. There is no forecast availability date. It doesn't make any sense that a signal from AT&T would have anything to do with the battery stats. The service phone charged and reset the stats before I swapped my SIM into it.

I need help....I'm making my first Genius bar visit tomorrow to have my iphone looked at because the toggle switch on the side quit working. What should I expect? Should I do anything special to my phone before I get there?
Thanks!!!
~LubbyA backup happens every time I plug it in to charge right?
No. However, the first thing done when you sync is an iphone backup. You can also manually backup by right clicking the phone in the device pane & selecting "backup".

For the third-party partner Digieffects (mentioned under In Depth on the Adobe website) what happens to the purchased plug-in (such as Phenomena) once the Adobe apllication plan is canceled?
