Graded footage now it looks grainy and full of noise, why?

System Setup
MacBook Pro Retina
RAM 16gb
Adobe CS6
I just completed grading my footage and rendered everything and my footage looks grainy?
My source files are RED R3D files. Sent to Speed Grade from Premiere Pro via the send to command. The exposure on the clips is correct. I've only done a 15-25% increase on the Gamma setting nothing too drastic. In terms of the grade I made the footage look vintage by using the Sepia filter at a 25-35% opacity, crushed the black and pushed the whites but didn't go overboard and did a few Secondary color corrections to make curtain colors pop. I've provided a link so you can see what the footage looks like. I've even tried turning off all the filter/adjustments or shutting off all the eyeballs and rendering the RAW footage back out. The footage still looks grainy

Also the footage looks squashed now after rendering why?
Finally is there a setting where you can see if you missed any clips? Mean you didn't grade them, the timeline is so small it's hard to know if you missed a small clip or two

Looking at the clip in fullscreen (1680x1050) on my MBP (non)retina, I don't see anything that comes close to 'grainy' (save for the background on the title pages).  Have you verivied on other screens?
But form expeciance I must say that noise/grain in the blacks is a typlical issue. Actualy, what you are seeing is that, when there is light, the new generation camera's pick it up very well, but have difficutlty with the dark parts making blacks grainy and midtones and highlights not. Film has grain over the full specturm. I've been requesting an "Add Grain" filter for SG for this use. By adding grain to the mid & high the grain in the backs is less apparent. I typically fix that in After Effects.

live type files look grainy and do not fill the background when used for green screen backgrounds. Ideas?

What I want to do is somehow make my entire iMovie project smaller by compressing it somehow but without losing any footage or audio or quality. At the moment the project is a 56GB iMovie project lasting approx 1hr. I have a mixture of miniDV footage, titles created in Live Type (they are better quality than anything available in iMovie) and audio.
The miniDV footage is automatically compressed when it transfers from my camcorder to my Mac, no worries there.
The LiveType titles contain a motion background (imported into LT) and then text which appears and disappears at set points. The titles vary in length but are about 5 seconds each.
The file size for the LT titles is approx 180MB per clip, the movie requires about 20 or so of these clips, making a very large file size overall.
Is there a way that I can save something in LT so that the file size is smaller yet still keep the quality and use the clip in my iMovie ?

  • Magnet stuck to ipod, now it wont work and making wiered noise

i just got these magnets that u toss up in the air and they make noise and i just set them down i guess next to my ipod for five mins and the where on the back of it, then i pulled them off and tried to plug the ipod into the computer and now the screen is frozz and it's making this wired noise and wont connect to itunes, plz someone help me.

    Try restoring the firmware.
    Try restarting the iPod.
If that does not work-contact Apple.
Do not admit you broke one of the cardinal rules of
    electronics/computing devices-Never put magnets on
    them.
    Claim it just stopped working.
But if he lies to them then wouldn't it become fraud?

  • I sync my purchase from store to ipod now all my music and games are gone why did this happen and how doi get them back?

i sync my purchases to my ipod now all my music is gone and my games are gone too how can i get them back?

You most likely synced your iPod to a different iTunes then you previously synced it with.  You won't be able to get all of your music back unfortunately unless you had it backed up.
    Sorry!

  • My computer wont play music but it plays the start up and shut down noise. why?

well the subject name is self explanatory and sums it up in one sentence but in depth.....
i was listening to music one day and the sound started to cut out and get static-y almost. after a couple of seconds of that the sound stoped playing all together but the song itself was still playing through. at first i thought it was just my itunes so i tried to listen to something on youtube when that didnt work i tried adjusting the volume settings, switching it from headphones (which didnt work either) and back to speakers, restarting the computer, googling, calling both my neighbor and boyfriend. still couldnt figure it out; still couldnt get it to work. frustrated, i stoped using my computer for a week. one day i decided to play a game on it and the start up noise came on while powering up so i went to see if my music was working again. still nothing. i began playing a game later on in the day and the sounds of the game worked every so often but still no music! im tired of not having my music so please help!!!!!

  • Why do videos and photos look grainy in my iPad

If I take photo or video on my iPad 3 the video looks grainy and horrible. How can I fix this?

As iCrizzo said, more light will substantially improve the photos and videos.  Keep in mind the cameras in the iPad are very small.  they do not have high resolution or a lot of light-gathering capability.  The more light you can provide, for example doing facetime in a well lit room, will be helpful.

  • When exporting to Quicktime, areas in shadows are grainy and pixelated

Shot short film on Canon HD (AH A1) 16:9 24fps. Looks great in the editor, however I cannot seem to figure out the settings to export to Quicktime so that I have a nice clear picture when blown up to large format (50" plasma and larger format, i.e. movie theater screen)
Anything in a shadow looks grainy and pixelated when exported.
I need help with my size, codec, data rate, frame rate etc. If anyone has the magic combination please let me know. I am on a deadline. Thanks!

    Hello Nick Holmes,
    thanks for the reply.
I deleted all the rendering files (using Rendering Manager) from the sequence and I rerender it again using ALT+R.
Nothing has changed. Corrupted pixels are still there.
So I created a new HDV 1080/50i Sequence in which I put only one HDV clip imported from the camera by FCPX.
I exported that in 4 different ways:
    QT Reference Movie – Corrupted pixels;
    QT Movie Self-Contained – The same corrupted pixels as above;
    QT Movie Self-Cont + Recompress All Frames – No corrupted pixels;
QT Conversion to Apple Pro Res 422 – No corrupted pixels but different colors (due to Single Field).
The clip I put in the Test Sequence has not need to be rendered: I can edit and play it natively.
I also tried to export a part of the original sequence I'm working on.
That's odd: parts that needed to be rendered (text) are great, HDV footage has still that issue.
I don't seriously understand. Should I transcode my HDV footage to Apple Pro Res 422 and always use that codec in my future HDV workflows?
    Thanks in advance.
    Alessandro.

  • 1080p video looks grainy

Hello guys, so i have a problem with my iMac, i have some 1080p videos and they look amazing when i watch them on my 42'' HDTV but when i watch them on my iMac they look very grainy and i dont understand why, i tried Quicktime and Vlc and it's the same, the video plays fine but quality looks poor.
What can i do to fix this?

    http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/sony-action-cam-wi/4505-6500_7-354267 16.html
The above Cnet review says it really doesn't play nice with large screens because of its 16Mbps recording rate.
    Maybe that is the problem.

  • HD import to iMovie okay, but movie is grainy and cut-off on QuickTime

I have Canon HD video camera set to FXP mode.
Imported video looks OK in iMovie, but when I export to QuickTime (I selected BEST quality), movie looks grainy and the image is cropped in the vertical axis (heads cut-off).
By contrast, when I use the Pixela software that came with the camera and import to my PC (boo!), and then export to .mpeg, movie quality is FINE and very sharp.
Am I setting up QuickTime export wrong?
    Any suggestions much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Flash Version of DVD/Blu Ray looks grainy

So I have found a way to export my Blu Ray files to play off of a flash file. My question is this. When I am watching the file the menus and such look crisp and clear but once I go into a video asset within the Flash version to watch it, the video looks like it is scaled down and looks grainy and awful. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? The file for the whole flash version seems to be hovering always at ~3.5 GB no matter what I set the project settings to. Does anyone have any ideas?

What export preset did you use? And yes, the max resolution appears to be 1280x720.

  • Printing Photos with the Photosmart B210a so they are not blurry and full of ink

I purchased the B210a to replace an older photosmart that just stopped printing.  When the old printer did photos they were great.  Had no trouble setting printet up to run on a wireless network and am using a computer with WINXP.
Photos that come out are grainy and full of ink, so much so that I get ink all over my hands.  I have done all the things you usually do, clean printheads, checked the vents, align the printhead.  No change in how the photo prints.  Went out and bought HP advanced photo paper as all I had was photo paper for an epson picturemate. Nothing.
Everything else on the printer works fine, it prints great and the scanner works very well.  The photos are a big disappointment. At this point I am debating contacting HP Support directly or just taking the thing back and getting a different printer.  Printer is only about a week out of the box at this point.
Any help woud be greatly appreciated.  I did find a thread about this but it was way too detailed and technical for me to follow all the steps the posted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Dave Trott

We are having the exact same problem.  I happened to have one sheet of HP paper (from an even older HP photo printer and it seemed to print just fine.  So I think the Kodak stuff (I have a lot of it too) is just not compatible with the HP 6510.  I'm going to get some other paper tomorrow and see what works.

  • Changed sequence settings to match source footage but only half footage now matches even though they're from the same camera and same aspect ratio

My source footage is 1920 X 1080 from a canon 60D. I changed my sequence settings to Digital SLR 1920 X 1080 to match. On the program window I have it set at "Fit". Only about a quarter of my footage now fits the program screen and looks to be the matching aspect ratio. The rest of the footage when on "fit" fills a tiny portion of the viewing window so it appears they don't match the sequence settings. I don't understand why this is happening because this footage is from the same camera, shot the same day, and have the same aspect ratios.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it??

First of all, the setting that you mention is on Fit is the Zoom Level of the Program Monitor. It controls only how the sequence is shown in that monitor; it has nothing to do with how any sources are handled in the sequence.
    Please provide the following information:
    Exact version of Premiere Pro
    Exact version of operating system
    Graphics card and driver
Also, please post a screenshot showing the following

one of the problematic clips selected and the Effect Controls panel visible, with the Motion section twirled open.

  • IMovie '11 clips now skipping/grainy and don't work?

As if I don't have enough problems with my startup disk being almost full, now a movie I have been working on has been ruined. Last week, I had the alert come up saying "Your startup disk is full", which I've ben having problems with lately (considering it claims that there is 120GB of "other" data using storage, which I have no idea what could be in there). Anyways, so I went about deleting video clips on my desktop which I figured would be saved into iMovie, and I could continue my project without worry. I was wrong. Apparently deleteing the video clips on your desktop, also destroys the same clips in iMovie. So, now I was faced with a problem. When trying to play the project, for almost every clip there would be a note "Source clip is missing" OR the clip would just be super grainy (to the point you can barely see the picture) and super laggy. For many of the clips, I still do have the source clip in my event library, but those too have the same issue of being grainy and laggy. I do have most of clips still because they were stored in my email however one had been taken on my own laptop. This is the one I have issues with because the one clip I need has dissappeared somewhere (I still have the other clips I need from my computer), I have the copy of the clip on both my desktop and in my events library but both are again, super grainy and laggy... Unusable. Is there anyway I can possible redownload/re-import that clip? If I can somehow convert it back to being the wuality it was, I would be all set.

I received a notice from Chris Campbell at Adobe that stated : "....we are aware that Macs created between 2006 and 2008 are currently running into problems using the latest release of Flash Player (version 13)."  My question is will the update of Adobe Reader 11.0.07 cause this problem with Flash Player 13 on my Mac?  Sometimes when I try to view streaming video I get sound but no video.

  • Image looks great in PS- when I go to print it looks grainy in printer preview dialog box and prints blurry. Why?

Image looks great in PS- when I go to print, it looks grainy in printer preview dialog box and prints blurry.  Why is this happening?

PS CC, Yosemite, Epson 3880 (called espson to make sure it wasn't something with that), saved as a tiff/psdjpg- all files behave the same way.  When I open the raw file- and only crop the image- it behaves this way now- with grain and blur when printing.  No other files do this in the same shoot.  I worked on this image- could something have gotten corrupted along the way such that now even opening the raw file creates this problem.  SInce upgrading my computer -  a window pops up when I open PS that says I need to update my graphics card?? for 3D- I'm not using 3D- so I don't know if that means anything.  I have to leave for about an hour- but greatly appreciate any feedback. I will be in touch. Thank you.
