Gradient Colour Goes To Eye Dropper Colour Picker?

Hello,
Whenever I try to edit the gradient colour by clicking on the colour bar itself (second in from the left, http://prntscr.com/6vfu4u) it comes up with the eye dropper tool instead of the normal colour picker.
(It changes to this once I click on that colour box to change the gradient; http://prntscr.com/6vfuj3. It also does the same thing through Layer > Blending Options > Gradient Overlay)
Any idea why or how I can get back to the normal colour picker?
Thanks!

Wow I feel stupid, the colour picker window was opening on my second monitor which was turned off -.-

  • Eye Dropper, Colour Palette and Adjustment Layers?

    Hi guys,
I tend to need to change the colour of various items in images (usually because I want something in the image to be a corporate colour.
My old technique used to be something along this line:
    Open image
Ensure the colour palette is visible
    Convert to CMYK (or not)
Create curves or channel mixer adjustment layer
Eye dropper the image on a pixel I wanted to change
Manipulate the adjustment layer and watch the colour feedback from the colour palette
When the colour palette said rughly the right colour values--job done!
My problem is, whenever I eye dropper the image it tells me the current colour; but when I go back to manipulating the adjustment layer the colour palette nop longer gives me live colour value feedback like it used to in CS3. This change occured when the Adjustments Palette was introduced
This has been driving me crazy ever since CS4 came out (infact, I ignored CS4 because of it).
Is there anyway to restore live feedback???
Please, please, PLEASE help meeeeeeeeeeeee...!  :'o/

    Try something like this:
    1. Make the curves adjustment layer
    2. Click on the curve adjustment layer thumbnail in the layers panel
(not the layer mask, but the curve icon to the left of the layer mask)
    3. Manually select the eyedrooper tool in the toolbox and ctrl click in the image to set the
point or points on the curve.
When you adjust the curve from inside the curves panel, you should be able to see the
    changes in the color panel.
For the channel mixer, click on the channel mixer icon and then click inside the image with the eyedropper tool
and you should be able to see the changes in the color panel when you move the sliders.

  • Eye-dropper Color Picker not working

None of the PPro CS5 effects I've tried that use the Eye-dropper for color-picking (UltraKey, Color Key, Color Corrector, etc.) seem to work properly. When I click on the eyedropper, the cursor changes to the eye-dropper pointer, but when I drag this pointer over any part of the screen, the swatch in the effects controls seems to vary between different shades of gray - not the color that is under the pointer. Likewise, when I click over a color, only the shade of gray is picked.
Clicking on the swatch in the effect controls to bring up the graphic color picker works just fine. Furthermore, in After Effects CS5 and Photoshop CS5, all of the color eye-droppers I have tried work just fine. Seems to be isolated to Premiere Pro CS5. Never had this problem with CS4. Any ideas?

    Hey all,
This thread has been really useful to me as I have the exact same problem.... My problem is I do not have a machine like yours, I'm running on the most basic 13 inch MacBook Pro so 2gb ram, and I think Nvidia GeForce 9400M, will need to check, I purchased it in November 2009.
Is there anything I can do?

  • Premiere Pro CS5 - Mac Pro - The eye dropper color picker does not work properly

The eye dropper will not pick up on the colors that are hovered over. Instead, the selected color is offset. The best I can figure out is that I'm experiencing a vertical downward offset of about +/-150 pixels and a horizontal offset to the right of about +/-5 pixels.
Does anyone have the same issue and if so have you found a solution?

Yes, that appears to be the problem. I disconnected my secondary monitor (which does have a different vertical resolution) and the eyedropper appears to function properly.
Okay, so now I know the cause of the issue. However, disconnecting and reconnecting monitors is not an acceptable workflow. Apparently this problem affects quite a few Premiere Pro CS5 Mac users with dual monitors since you referred to it as a know issue with all versions of Mac OS. Do you know if there is an update (not an upgrade) for Premiere Pro CS5 to address this?
    Thanks.

  • Eye dropper/ color picker not working right

Everything so far seems to be working right except the eye dropper tool, or even selecting a color from the pallette it. Instead of setting the foreground color it's setting the background color which is really annoying, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling so far to no effect. Anyone else having this issue? Or have any idea what may be causing it?

Hop into your Color Panel (Window > Color), and you'll see the two color boxes. Foreground/Background. Make sure the Foreground box is outlined. Clicking on it should activate it, and hopefully solve your problem.

  • Eye dropper only picking up black

              Hello...
All of a sudden (might have changed preferences on something without realizing what it would affect), 70% of the time when I eyedrop a color on a bitmap, jpg, png, whatever, it chooses black!  I used to be able to sample anything on my monitor and get the exact color.
I went into the prefs on the eyedropper and played around with the 3 different options, but got the same result.  I've had CS4 since it came out, so I'm sure it's not upgrades that changed it.
    Any ideas???
    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FIX
I know this is a dated thread, but I stumbled across it looking for an answer to the same problem.  Since there wasn't a solution on this thread I kept on looking and found the answer, or at least an easy workaround.
Issue: CS4 Fireworks and OS X 10 Lion - color picker (eyedropper) does not work, only returns black.
    FIX: Found here: http://simianstudios.com/blog/post/colour-picker-bug-workaround-for-adobe-fireworks-cs4-in -os-x-lion
    Details:
    1. Click the colored tile as usual to bring up the default color picker panel.
    2. Click the little colored wheel at the top right to bring up the Apple color picker.
    3. Click the little magnifying glass at the top left.
    4. Click anywhere in the screen to sample the color.
    5. See that the colored tile to the right of the magnifying glass has changed to th eselected color and click "OK".
This workaround also has the added benefit of making it easier to precisely select the color you want.  This may also work with Dreamweaver, Flash, etc., not sure, haven't tried it.
I think it stinks that Adobe hasn't taken the little time required to fix this bug.  It's a petty way to take a shot at Apple as well as try and force people to upgrade from CS4.  They should be ashamed.  I've been using Dreamweave and Fireworks since before Adobe acquired them but this is the last Adobe Suite I will ever buy.  Photoshop and other web and design software have surpassed this lazy, fading company IMHO so why pay for their lack of support? [/rant]
In any case, hope this helps anyone that follows!

  • 3 way Color correction FCPX - eye dropper - whites/mid/black color picker -

    - In every shot with my AF100, after a WHITE BALANCE -  I shoot a white/grey/black card  http://tinyurl.com/greycards
    - In FCP 7, in 3 way color correction, I use the eye dropper to pick each of these, this works very well,
as opposed to guessing at what is white, grey and black in any shot.
    Question:
How do I do this in FCP X ?
What technique can I use for this trick which has worked well for my color grading.
    Thanks,
    Rob

I'd love learn specifically what makes the color bar "better".
Here is my comment which I recently left on a similar thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19082591#19082591
The eye dropper in the 3 way CC was an amazingly efficient way of getting color balance.
Not only is it easy but also was a very intuitive way for less experienced users to grasp how color is distributed.
This new brain-dead approach of color matching in FCPX is inconsistent and doesn't help novice users really get a grasp on the fundamentals of color grading.
If Apple doesn't return the 3 way CC hopefully someone will write an affordable 3rd party plug that brings back this functionality.
Here's a short youtube tutorial illustrating how simple white balance is in FCP7.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d3rlRUXz4M
Here's a tutorial on how it's now done in FCPX. (The kid comments on the ridiculous absence of the eye dropper.)

Decide for yourself which is more intuitive and logical.

  • Colour brick eye dropper not working

After 3.3 update the adjustments Color Brick eye dropper will not select a new color.  I have reinstalled 3.3 but no change.  My system is a good stable system with no issues at all.  Anyone else seeing this?

    Hi Stewart,
    I can only guess.
Since the update I notice as I browse my pictures that they take longer to render and
I observe quite the opposite; I now can process large scans that where impossible to tackle before, see e.g. my post here:
Aperture 3.3: Improved handling of large scans?
Aperture appears to be much faster, and I saw others report similar observations; I assume that Aperture now has a more efficient memory management and probaby requires much more RAM than previously. How much RAM does your iMac have? Can you upgrade?
Also you need plenty of free disk space. If the disk get full, multimedia applications will be slowed down.
Ask SierraDragon, he is our resident hardware guru!
I half expected version 4 because the Adobe suites have been refreshed and Aperture 3 is old ish now.  Not that I am complaining,  Aperture is a great piece of software and I would struggle without it!
I agree, and I am still hoping for Aperture 4 arriving with the Mountain Lion
    Cheers

  • Gradients and the eye dropper tool

When you're editing a gradient within the shape (as opposed to in the Gradients palette), is there any way to use the eye dropper tool to sample an existing color? In-shape gradient editing (or whatever Adobe calls it) is useless without the eye dropper.

Hi, I came looking for an answer to this very question... but now I have figured out a way to do what you want to do.
    1. Select the object you want to make into a gradient and make it so... it'll be the dreaded white to black
    2. Select the colour that has the fil that you want to use for one end of the gradient
    3. Now Select the gradient and notice that the fill you previously selected is in the "last color" box in the color tab group.
    4. Now drag the color from the "last color" box to the gradient color box
    5. repeat as necessary... click color, then gradient, then drag the previous colour to the gradient color box.
    Hope this helps :-)

  • Ultra Key problem. Eye Dropper tool not picking up color.

Hi. Has anyone had problems with the eye dropper tool in the chroma key filters?  When I use the dropper tool to pick up the color nothing happens. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your post.  Yes, I did find a solution but it's not going to make any sense to anyone. I was having problems also with other programs such as adobe bridge and Camera raw (the color was yellow). So, I, as it is my custom, did a back up of my harddrive as a system image (just in case my computer crashed) and all of a sudden all these problems got resolved! I know it sounds crazy but whatever took place internally solved it.  And trust me, I had tried all kinds of stuff before for not only Premier but also bridge and camera raw - nothing had worked.
So, I guess you could try that ( you have nothing to lose ).  I hope it works for you.

  • Eye dropper tool not working! (color picker)

Okay, I am fairly new to photoshop, so maybe I am doing something wrong.  My eye dropper tool is not working at all.
Say I want to select the color of someone's face.  I click my eye dropper, then click somewhere on the subject's face.  My foreground and background colors both become white (when one was previously black).  I click on a green shirt... both are still white.  I click something black... both are still white.  Am I going about color picking wrong?  I have tried the sample size as point sample, 3X3 and 5X5.  No luck.
    How do you color pick?

Make sure you are selecting the right tool. It's in the Draw section of tools. Please donot confuse it with Red eye removal tool.
Try resetting the Editor's preferences. To do it, close Editor. Open Welcome Screen. Before clicking to launch Editor, press Ctrl+ Alt+Shift and then launch Editor. It will open a dialog box. Click Yes. See if this helps.

  • Pulling color out of a gradient w eye dropper

Hello all - this is my first posting here, but I've spent quite a bit of time searching down my answer and haven't found anything.
I have an illustration that contains a lot of gradients. I am trying to simplify the illustration in order to make the file size smaller by removing all of my gradients and replacing the current shape with new shapes containing solid colors.
(I am trying this method because I have tried other methods that have not decreased thefile size enough, such as merging)
I have locked my layer and created a new layer above in order to use my pen tool to create the new shapes. The problem is when I use the eye dropper to get the part of the gradient I need for that shape, it fills the new shape with the gradient, not the solid color I am sampling.
Is there a way to do what I have described?
    Thanks!

It's not really as accurate as it might be but try holding down the shift key to sample the sereen value at that point.

  • Eye Dropper Tool (Color Picker Tool) not working correctly - Premiere CC - Windows 8 - Multiple Displays

I'm running Windows 8, Premiere CC 2014 with two monitors. The eye dropper tool (color picker tool) isn't working correctly. It is selecting colors that are not the colors being hovered over. I've reasearched and see solutions to the problem when occurring with Mac, but do not see a solution for Windows. When I disconnect the second monitor, the eye dropper tool works correctly (as described by Mac users). I deleted any profiles for the montors that weren't the same, and still having the issue. I've also tried putting the source monitor on the second monitor, and tried sampling color from there... same result.

    Hello All,
Problem solved...I reset all tools in the Tool Preset window. Seems to be working.
    Hope this helps someone...
    Cheers!

  • The colour picker is selecting the background colour instead of the foreground colour.

You know how when you're painting, you can hold ALT and it will pick a colour from the canvas? Well, for some reason, mine still picks up the colour but it sets it to the background colour instead of the foreground colour. And when I actually select the colour picker tool, it will only select the background colour but when I hold Alt, it selects the foreground colour. Basically it's flipped where it's supposed to select. Do you know how to flip it back? It's driving me mad. Thanks.

In the Color Palette (Window>Color) click on the foreground swatch. A "focus ring" will appear around it.

  • My paint bucket/gradient/paint brush tool icon is now a eye dropper...

I've been playing around in CS5 for about a couple months now and today, (not sure if I hit a special function/command) but my icons when the paint brush, gradient and the paint bucket is now a eye dropper icon.. It's kind of annoying and I'm not sure how to reverse this.
    Any feedback would be great!!
    Thanks!!

Did you read the thread? Did you read the tech doc? Are you running any of the programs that are associated with the conflict? Did you try any of the advice offered? As the tech doc explains, symptoms vary, but one listed is:
Tools behave as if the Shift or Option keys  are pressed.
Normally you would get the Eyedropper Tool using Paint Bucket, Gradient Tool, Brush Tool etc IF THE OPTION KEY was pressed.
Reread the thread and see if any of the solutions (including an "unofficial" download fix written by Jesper at post #72)
If you have any of the apps listed, make sure they are disabled. I would log out, and log back in and restart PS while holding down the Shift+Option+Command keys. You'll get a small dialog to OK deleting the preference file.
If that does not work, try downloading Jesper's fix.
There is no official solution yet from Apple or Adobe, to my knowledge.
