Gradient in file background

In Photoshop CS6 (64 bit) when I open a new file, the background shows a gradient. No matter what I do or try, there is a gradient from top to bottom in the file. Eventhough I select to change to one even color. No matter what layer I place o top or change, it shows the gradient. Some settings somewhere must cause this but I am unable to find out where or how....How do I get it back to default settings?

If the file opens like this the previous gradient layer has be flattened and image saved. You can not go back once image has been closed.

the aidlindarlingdesign site is using a transparent swf to
display the soft edges around their content. Google "transparent
swf" and you will find a multitude of competent tutorials on how to
do this.

How do I change the gradient so my background colour goes from dark to light?

I am a relative newbie to PSE. If have tried adding a gradient to my background colour but I have noticeable lines. I need it to go from dark to light from left to right.
Can anyone help me?

Hi Mike
You use the gradient tool (foreground to background color)
e.g set colors to black/white at bottom of tool pallet
Select gradient tool and set mode to lighten
Click on top of your image and drag down to the bottom (holding the shift key whilst dragging ensures a vertical line)
Then release the mouse.

In DVDSP3, I wanted to to open the file "Background.mov"

In DVDSP3, I wanted to to open the file "Background.mov" that's part of an Apple template. But the template folder is empty, and a search for the file doesn't find it. However, both the template and the mov file are working. How do I find/open such things?

right click on the dvd app to show "package contents"
remember that it's dicey changing these stock templates.

FW CS4 need help with gradients & png files

Relatively new to FW CS4. I have a png file for use in a PV7 css based site. Read the docs and still can't figure this out. The png file is a base image with 3 color sections. I need to change these three original individual sections to a new color scheme...I can use a regular fill...but I would like to keep the slight fading effect of the original pngs. In addition...the png's are obviously in png format..but if I export as jpg will I loose the gradient fill/opacity effect in a jpg file ?
Original png...want to change to light blue tones: Note the fading to the right side of the outside columns.
If not...how do I change the color scheme in each section of the original png ? Or do I export as is and modify the resulting jpg's ?
If I use a gradient fill or paint bucket...the effect just overlays the original gold type color...giving me a new color all together with the original background still partially showing through underneath the new color change ?
If I delete the gold tones in the png image...then I can't fill the empty space with any other color...nothing works. I've also tried color find/replace
but with no results or changes.
Second problem is when I do apply gradient fills to this png...or jpg...the fill seems to me to be from top to bottom of the section ? I need the fill to move from left to right as above ? Any ideas here also ??
I posted on the PV7 FW group but it's not that active and was more confused by the answers ?

After following Lorains' gradient link, when you have the first box tweaked to your liking and you need it replicated to the remaining two boxes (without having to go through the process again)
1. Select the box that has the new Gradient, then Edit > Copy (or Ctrl/Command + C)
Then select the remaining two boxes that need the new gradient style, then Edit > Paste Attributes
This process with carry over (copy/paste attributes) the first box to the others.
Or
2. Select the box that has the new Gradient changes, then in the Property Inspector (PI), to the far right, tick the small icon under to create a New (Object) Style. Once created, open the Window > Styles Panel. Select the two remaining boxes on the canvas then click the New Style icon in the Styles Panel to apply.
1. is memory resident/temporary and will be lost when you later utilize the Copy command. But 2 has more 'staying' power and you can reuse it, go back to it, save it to disk, and tweak it further to create new ones at any time.
If you absolutely have to keep the final result as a .jpg, then turn off the Canvas color. Open the Window > Optimize Panel, set the output to jpg, BUT set the MATTE color to the color that matches the background of your page.
Otherwise, output to .png8/png32 with Transparency .

Offline Files (Background) Sync makes File Explorer and other programs responding slow

Hi TechNet,
I have a problem with Offline Files and
especially with VPN users.
For VPN users, the slow-link
policy is activated with a background
sync interval of one hour. But, when Offline Files is syncing, their File Explorer is hanging (not responding) by creating new files/folders, deleting files/folder, or rename files/folders. This happens only in their (redirected)UserData
folder or with other DFS shares which are cached locally. In other programs (Outlook or Office 2010) when they save data in the UserData folder exactly the same things happens (not responding).
This problem occurs in both the
internal network and via VPN, so bandwidth is
not the problem. When the sync is finished, everything is working fine again.
I've tested:
- Offline mode with scheduled background sync: problem occurs
- Online mode with manual sync: problem occurs
- Rebuild offline cache database: no effect
- Tested with fresh Windows 8(.1) installations and user profiles: problem occurs
- Monitoring SMB traffic with WireShark: no result
- Montoring Windows 8(.1) clients with procmon: no result
- Tested with full DFS paths: problem occurs
- Disable IPv6: problem occurs
- Disable Windows Search: problem occurs
- Browsing in the Offline Files folder (Sync Center -> Manage Offline Files -> View Offline Files) is very slow (with +- 200 files). This occurs also when Offline Files is not syncing.
Does anyone have an idea how I can solve this problem?

First, sorry for the late response, I have tested a few things for you:
Offline mode with background sync over a VPN connection: During scheduled sync File Explorer hangs. When bypass the cache by using a UNC path (State: Online) there is also a delay, but this is caused by bandwidth.
Online Mode with Manual Sync over a LAN connection: During sync File Explorer hangs in (redirected)UserData Folders (They are always available offline, maybe this is a problem?). With UNC paths, there is no delay…
The first folder/file is created slowly, but the second is fast.

DIV tags disappear when put over swf file background

I am working on a site which has a swf movie as a background
which fills the browser window(SWFobject). When I place DIV tags,
which reference a CSS id and contain swf files as well, over the
top (for absolute positioning, etc.) they disappear when previewed
in a browser . Is there a reason that the swfobject always takes on
top position in the browser? Do I need to change something in the
SWFoject javascript file, in the code or within either the CSS file
or the dreamweaver HTML code? Here is a link to a site that is very

All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
to speak,
including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
Active X controls.
This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
is not a good
cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
use the Flash
wmode parameter (however, Safari does not support this
properly!).

DMS: Download file background

Hi,
I have a problem. i have a c# application in the user PC that is going to call a sap webservice that downloads a file from DMS to the user PC. this is possible or this counts as background and we only can download to the application server? if that so, is there anyway to after the file is in the application server copy it automaticly to the user PC?

Using webservice also there may be some logic that we can use to write a file to the user's desktop PC.
But we need to investigate more in the technical prespective first.
Other easiest option is inside the webservice logic we can create a file in the application server and FTP / Or write it to a share folder , that share folder is accessible to the user from the desktop PC.
But to write it to a shared folder we need to do the File Mounting in the SAP application server / Shared folder host machine.
This is purely a BASIS job.

Foreground(Download file)- Background (BAPI)- Foreground(results) howto

I have a program that currently:
1) Downloads an industry specific file
2) Converts the file into BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGE call
3) Displays the result in an ALV Grid.
The problem is that the BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGE can exceed the dialog workprocess timeout value for any decent sized order.
We want to:
1) Download the file in the dialog wp.
2) Process the bapi call in the background
3) Awake the dialog process and display the results

3 - Problem ->   Using CL_GUI_TIMER.   Appears to work for a certain number of refreshes but the event randomly stops invoking at some point in the future.
This is some test code I was playing with:   It stops on my system somewhere between 40 and 150 iterations.

So I'm either looking for a solution that allows CL_GUI_TIMER to work indefinately OR a better way.   My basis team does not want to dump the dialog work process timeout value at all.

Are you using gui_download in foreground and open dataset in background? U'll get different file size because, by default, gui_download adds CRLF at the end of each line, and open dataset adds only LF. so the foreground file size should be little bigger than the other.

Keynote files background is white

I can import keynote files into ibooks author but have found the page background is white even though I set it to "none" (transparent) in the inspector. When I upzip the keynote file, the master pages are .jpg which forces the transparent background to white. This seems like a bug to me. The programs I have will not allow me to rezip the keynote file if I remove the .jpgs and make them .pngs.
Does anyone has a work around? Or am I missing something?

I am importing the actual Keynote file and the backgrounds of ALL the slides are white on the iPad. One slide has 2 images (airplane and television) with a transparent bg and the second slide has text. Both slides have been set to "none" for background color. I have included a screen shot of the unzipped file. It seems like the
png images are being converted into jpg (see thumbs folder).

CS6 new file background issue

Hi, i have encountered a stange issue on PS CS6,
when i open a new file with a white background, i see the new file with only part of it with white background and the rest as it is transparent, but once i start to work on the file other parts gets the white background as well,
anyone knows what is causing this and how to sort this?

Merged gradient - how to separate the gradient from the background

I created a new layer and filled a colour. Then I created another layer and made a circular gradient in black with multiply option. Now i can move the gradient to any position. Then I flattened all the layers. I saved it as jpg. Now i want to bring back those two layers with multiply option from that saved jpg. how to make it?

If you could create the gradient again in perfect alignment with what you did before, you *might* be able to recover some of the original image data, but in general you're not going to be able to get an acceptable image back as the data will be degraded - possibly badly. You might be best off just to start over with a new image and gradient.
But I may have misunderstood... Is there an actual photo at all involved in this anywhere, or do you just have a solid color with a gradient?

Trying to change solid white to transparent in a black to white gradient in one layer of a psd file

Hi everyone
I have a multilayered psd file. All layers should remain opaque except the black to white gradient layer where I need the white to be transparent. So that when I oplace the final psd on top of a block of solid colour in Indesign the gradient shows the background colour through where the black fades off.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. I am attaching a lowres psd file where I need to save it with top layer opaque and 'shadow' layer transparent. So that when I place it over solid colour in Indesign the gradient allows the background colour to show through where the balck is fading out.
