Gradient interlocking circular arrows in Illustrator

hi there- I was wondering how you make interlocking circular arrows similar to this in Illustrator:
I can do the circular arrows one of two ways:
create a circular outline, split into 3, put arrow heads on, make them a fill and add gradient OR
create a circle and split into 3 and add triangles for arrow heads.
The issue I have is that one arrow head needs to be separated from the line and brought to the front so it's interlocked and still has the gradient intact - if that makes sense...? The 2nd and 3rd image shows where I am at the moment.
How do you do this?!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This may be cheating, but I'd create a symbol and duplicate around the center point. Then duplicate the problem arrow and mask the front copy:
This method lets you add as many arrows as you like to the circle.

• What is this symbol with a circular arrow at the top of my contacts list?

ive noticed on my iphone 4s it now has a circular arrow in the top left of my conacts list like a refresh symbol but it does nothing. does anyone know what its for? i swear it wasnt there yesterday.
also how do you get rid of duplicate contacts or contacts you no longer need? i know we can merge contacts but there seems to be tons of names and numbers i have put into categories for work contacts and since using icloud when one person rings i have three different names for them that pops up.

1. It is a refresh icon, it initiates a manual sync with the server storing/syncing contacts.
2. Sinec you know about merge. You can also delete, tap to open a contact, click edit, and then scroll to the bottom. Alternatively, you can log into icloud.com and edit, delete, prune there much easier if you have many alterations to make.

• InDesign radial gradients non-circular

Hi there, I'm having a long-term issue with radial gradients in InDesign (I'm currently using CS6). For the last 3 versions I've not been able to create radial gradients and apply them to an object, and keep them perfectly circular – unless they're applied to a perfectly circular object.
If I try to apply a radial gradient to a rectangle, for instance, it automatically fills the object with the gradient stretched to the shape of the object. So, it behaves more like a gradient mesh than a true radial gradient. I cannot find a setting, keyboard shortcut or menu option ANYWHERE that sounds like it might affect this functionality. The gradient tool in the tool pallet simply readjusts the scaling of the gradient, but retains the same incorrect proportions of the blend. In my gradient dialog box, I have neither "location" nor "Angle" available for me to adjust.
It is seriously driving me INSANE. I've wasted hours on the internet trying to find something but to be honest I don't even know what terms to search for, everything I've thought of turns up the same entry-level useless grandient "tips" from Adobe.
It IS possible to have a cicular radial gradient inside a non-circular object, but my computer seems to have found a "default setting" which uses gradient swatches incorrectly.

@Georgina – It seems that it depends on the aspect ratio of the object:
1. If the object is in vertical format ("portrait"), the applied circular gradient is squeezed.
2. If the object is in horizontal format ("landscape"), the applied circular gradient stays circular (but is cut at top and bottom)
I think this behaviour is implemented by design (a.k. a feature; not a bug).
Was it different in any other version of InDesign before?
I don't think so. Just tested in InDesign CS3. Same behaviour than in CS5.5.
What can we do about it?
1. Work with nested objects.
Construct a circle or a square, apply the radial gradient to it, cut/paste inside that object to a "portrait" rectangle.
2. Start with a horizontal format, apply the radiant gradient, rotate the object by 90°.

The circular arrow on one of my email accounts (I have three, and this is one of two googlemail accounts) goes around and around for 5 minutes or more with nothing happening and then a pop up says mail is going to quit - report to apple. Nothing has gone into this account for several weeks, and this is my 'business account'.

Hi Stewart,
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't help & you can afford to redo any Mail Rules...
Trash these files...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/... MessageRules.plist and MessageRules.plist.backup
Then if need be with the backup, Import emlx to mbox, See if this helps...

• Creating circular arrows?

Hello!
I've looked for a good solution to this issue I've had for like... forever, it seems.
I often need to create circular arrows. Now, this is not normally a problem since I just add arrowheads to a path.
But is there a way to convert the stylized "Add arrowhead" effect into a regular object?
Check image to see what I mean:
This is what I normally do, but when I try to convert the paths into "Outline Stroke" or anything like it, the arrowheads are reset (ie. removed)... which leaves me with the problem I need to address.
Thanks!
Cheers,

• Circular Arrow - direction

Hi,
I have the question about smart object - circular arrow. How can I change the arrow direction?
Best regards

I'm talking about regular circular arrow. See attachment:
I need to "Flip horisontaly". Change directon of the arrow to anticlockwise.

• I have noticed a new icon at the right upper corner on my iPad. It looks like a lock with a circular arrow around it.

I have noticed a new icon at the right upper corner on my iPad. It looks like a lock with a circular arrow around it. What does it mean?

This is simply he rotation lock icon showing up. It means that your iPad 2 running iOS 5.5.1 is "locked" in either portrait or landscape mode. This restricts the screen from rotating when you tilt it. This feature can be very useful in certain cases. To disable this feature, simply double tap on the home button to access the multitasking menu. From there, swipe to the right and tap the icon that looks like a lock with a circle around it. Depending on the settings on your iPad, you may have to turn off rotation lock by flipping the switch directly above the volume switch into the opposite position as it is in now. Hope this helped! Reply back if you have any further questions! It was my pleasure to help you today.

• Is it possible to import a gradient made in Photoshop to Illustrator?

Hi,
I made a complex gradient showing all spectral colors in Photoshop. Now I would like to have exactly this gradient in my Illustrator's gradient-palette. Is this possible somehow? At least it is not possible to load the Photoshop-.grd-file into Illustrator. Does anyone have an idea how to do it?
Best regards
Stefan
P.S. Of course I know that I can insert the Photoshop-gradient as a picture into any Illustrator document and that is exactly what I intended to do and actually do with it right now. But I also want to use it in conjunction with Illustrators diagram tool, which does not allow to fill the space below a graph with a picture, but which allows to fill this space with Illustrators own gradients. Thus it would be great if there was a way to transfer the Photoshop gradient to Illustrator and not having to start from scratch there again.
Meanwhile I have to copy the graph out of the diagram, putting it on a dedicated layer and there make a clipping mask together with the afore inserted Photoshop-pixel-gradient. This is not very elegant, when you must do this several times...
P.P.S. Forgot to mention that I'm talking about CS 5.5

No. Gradients are not directly transferable. Colors are, but not gradients.

• Gradient disappears from pdf in Illustrator

I created a logo graphic in Illustrator, placed that into an InDesign file for text formatting and exported as a pdf. When the customer sent it to get printed (silk screen) onto shirts, the gradient in the logo vanished. The printer was opening and performing pre-flight in Illustrator. How and why would this be happening? How can it be avoided?
Thank you,
KMHaus

PDF was never meant for editing.
Have you tried the same - opening the PDF in Illustrator?

• Newbie Question - Arrows in Illustrator CS4

Hi,
I'm new here and a bit of a newbie to Illustrator CS4 (migrating from CorelDraw X3). I'm trying to add an arrow to a line which was drawn using the line segment tool. I followed the steps in the online help which says to select the object (line segment), then go to Effect > Stylize -> Add Arrowheads. The only option I have in the Stylize menu is "Glowing Edges ..." Is it possible the line segment I drew is not considered an object?
Please help, this is driving me crazy.

Yeah, I know this is a few months old. Just wanted to say thanks for posting the answer, since I just spent about 45 minutes trying to figure this out, going down the same "glowing edges" garden path as the OP. I need one of those "I'm with stupid" t-shirts. At least I was able to find the answer. The Adobe help files of course were no help at all, and Adobe even makes it hard to search the forums (hey, I DON'T CARE about arrowheads in Flash, already), but I did find it. Thanks again.

• Gradient annotator tool missing in illustrator cc 2014

I have a gradient on a rectangle, it's not in a group and my options show "hide annotator tool", so I know it should be showing, but it's not there! I've tried turning off GPU rendering and I still don't see it, does anyone know what's going on?

Never mind. I finally just closed Illustrator and opened it back up, and TA-DA! It's back...just more weirdness from an Adobe product...I should have guessed so.

• Why don't Gradients from InDesign copy into Illustrator

Hello, I was wondering if anyone call me why I can't copy a rectangle with a gradient from Indesign into Illustrator. The rectangle copies over, but it becomes colorless....what happened to my gradient? I can copy and paste solid color rectangle from Indesign to Illustrator, but why not a gradient?
Thanks a lot

The implementations are different?!

• Got new Firefox version yesterday and now I can't find the circular arrow to click to refresh a web page.

I have Windows 7 64bit
Longtime Firefox user
Yesterday I downloaded the latest Firefox browser
One of the things the old version had at the top of the page was a
circle arrow that I could click to refresh a website screen without
restarting the website and getting to that screen again.
It is probably still available if you could help me to find it.

Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.
• Circular spiral in illustrator?

i'm trying to make a circular design with small circles in the center that spiral out and get bigger
i've tried a few different ways: i made a blend with a big and small circle and applied it to a spiral path that i then transformed in a circle, and i tried saving it as a pattern brush and applying it to the path, but i didn't like how that looked. i also tried a circular path with circles on it and duplicated and scaled it larger
the problem i keep having is that the circles are spaced further apart when they're smaller in the center, and get larger and spaced close together. i know you can distribute the spacing in the align palette, but the problem is that the circles are on a spiral
i'm attaching a picture of the inspiration -- i'm trying to recreate that design. notice the way the circles are spaced very precisely.. can anyone help me out here? (i'm pretty sure there's a way to make the rotations exactly in the transform palette, but i'm very unfamiliar with how to do that)
thanks for any help!!

Majxkristina, I played with this some more and got pretty close to your 'inspiration' image with these settings.
Large anchor circle 500 points diameter.
32 small circles, 20 pt. diameter each. (Angle of each circle's rotation from center is 11.25 degrees.)
Transform Effect settings:
Scale 90%, rotate 5 degrees, centered, 13 copies.
Harron, Terri's file is full of good info. I see she uses a small unpainted circle to move center of transformation.
For a transformation like the dot pinwheel in this thread, which requires precise geometry, I think using a large unpainted circle outside the objects offers more precision than a small anchor object.
I hope Adobe steals FreeHand's Transform Effect anchor. It's visible, snaps to guides, and marks the center of transformation quite precisely.
