Gradient Swatch Tool does NOT work in CS3

I made a gradient, named it, and filled a rectangle with it. I select the rectangle and fill it with the gradient. However, when I go to the gradient swatch tool, I'm unable to edit or change the gradient. The thing is, I can click on the gradient feather tool and make all kinds of changes to the gradient. HELP!!
I have Windows XP, SP2 and Creative Suite 3 Design Premium. Also, I'm new to Indesign and installed the CS3 software approximately a month ago.

Thanks for the prompt replay! I guess I didn't explain myself well. I'm taking a class and the book specifies that after I fill my rectangle with the gradient I'm to select the rectangle, click on the gradient swatch tool, then place the mouse pointer on the top edge of the rectangle;click and hold shift, and then drag down to the bottom of the rectangle. When I release the mouse, the gradient is to change directions of the fill. The result should be kind of like going from a horizontal fill to a vertical fill.
When I do it with the gradient swatch tool, nothing happens. BUT if I do it with the gradient feather tool, I don't have a problem with changing the outcome of the gradient. I just can't figure out why I can change the outcome with the feather tool but not with the gradient swatch tool???

I have the same issue, I am not sure which version so I had on my old computer but when I got a new windows 7 64bit, and asked IT to install Adobe, my life turned upside down. now they asked if I need X or 9pro and I though 9pro is the latest and greatest.. they installed the standard first then could not edit then asked for the pro and could not edit ... now I search and maybe version X will edit but if the document is signed and we do need to do lots of editing after the signature then what is the solution??

This is a user to user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.

Concluding something does not work because you fail at using it is not necessarily always justified.
The Quick Selection Tool certainly has limitations, but your post seems to be more about venting than trouble-shooting – otherwise you might have posted an image where you failed to get an expected result.

CS3 Free Transform Tool does not work at all for distortion

I tried everything, worked with vector objects of different configurations and rasterized objects. Nothing works. When I press Free Transform Tool and go to bounding box corner it become rotate or resize tool. When I click a little bit inside the bounding box and hold Command Key (I tried many keys and without keys) it just moves the whole object, it did not select just one point that I need. Envelope Mesh does not work for the same reason, but I do not need mesh tool. I have Illustrator 13.02, Mac OS 10.4.11
The Free Transform Tool functions exactly as the main selection tool. Please help.

I STILL cannot get this to work. I have tried everything suggested in this thread. I have followed the directions in the help menus explicitly. I have tried grouping, ungrouping. I have tried it on type, on type changed to outlines, on simple rectangles. Without success.
When I try to use the free transform tool and hover over a corner of the bounding box, I get either a double-headed corner arrow, a rotation arrow, or a move arrow. Using the first two, dragging the point and then holding down the control/command key results only in a scaling of the object.
Should I restart? Should I re-install? What should I do?

Clone Stamp Tool does not work

This is a re-post of an old problem. Using PS CS4 Extended v. 11.0.2 in Win XP SP3.
The clone stamp tool does not alter my image. After selecting source region, cursor hovers over the target region and the preview looks like what one would expect. After clicking, however, the desired change does not occur.
Uninstalled PS and reinstalled. Clone stamp worked for a while, then quit working again.
Image seems to be OK, in that I can open it on my Laptop with CS3 on Win Vista, do my cloning, save and all works fine.
Any ideas appreciated. I may uninstall and reinstall again, but if I do, would like some ideas of what I should monitor as I go through my work process.

Glad it fixed it.
When the preferences get corrupted it is not due to a wrong setting. One of the files has been damagrd. This is a known problem with computers not just Photoshop.
It can be caused by incorrect shut-downs, hard drive faults, or a dozen other reasons. Deleting the preferences just lets Photoshop generate a fresh set at factory default.
Make sure you check through to get your personal settings back and then save a copy.

Sounds like "Preferences>Selection & Anchor Display>Object Selection by Path only" is on.

The site reporter tool does not work

There is an item in Firefox Help where you can report a Web site that does not work. Originally, a report database was available on line and you could review existing submissions. It is 1.3 GB uncompressed; install with { gzcat | mysql mozrep; } to avoid doubling the space.

Sorry, but you need to give us more information. For starters, you *ARE* using Adobe Captivate, right? And what exactly are you trying to do where you are seeing the eyedropper isn't working? What could be the reason of OSCDIMG premastering tool not working in Windows 10?
I'm trying to rebuild ISO from the admin setup point and having problems with OSCDIMG failing to read files from the master folder:

Figured it myself.
For some reason, the tool does NOT support source locations on ReFS formatted drives. Move the D:\ISOFOLDER location to NTFS formatted drive, and the tool works flawless:

"Pick a Color" tool does not work

Since upgrading to OSX Yosemite the "Pick a Color" tool for color fills/matches in Microsoft Word for Mac does not match the color picked.

In chart expert there is a tab "Color Highlightsu201D. In this tab one can specify the condition based coloring.
In my case I want to show "RED" color for Unauthorized events andu201D GREEN" color for Authorized Events.
While creating a report suppose I am using a database server "DB-A".I set the color highlights in the chart as I explained. Please be noted that when we click on the color highlights tab it asks for the database login.
To view the report we have our own server and we are using JRC APIs.
Hence I map my report with server and try to view the Report. My Server is connected with database "DB-B" which is different from the database I used to create the report.
This time color Highlight I have specified while creating the report does not work.
I have tried using the "Format Series Riser" option. But the problem with this is that, it does not color the chart conditionally.
I mean if I give GREEN for Authorized and RED for Unauthorized. It gives the green color either to Authorized or Unauthorized which so ever occur first in the chart.
For example:-suppose there is no Authorized Event on date 15-Jan-2009 and I select the date range starting from 15-Jan.In this case Unauthorized event is the first to print on the chart hence this event get the green color though I expect this events to be in RED color.

Help: ORDER BY variable does not work in CS3

I have a variable in my recordset query for the ORDER BY
clause which is set by the URL variable, 'order'. With CS2 the
recordset worked fine with the variable. CS3 shows N/A for the
variable type in the Recordset dialog, and when I click Test to
test my recordset, it says I need to specify a variable type. So I
set it to 'Text' and suddenly the variable doesn't even work. It
just orders the records by ID. Am I going to have to use CS2 to
create recordsets with an ORDER BY variable in the future or is
there some other way around this?

Touchup Tool does not work with PDF

I am creating my own pdfs and when I open in acrobat pro I cannot select my text using the touchup text tool. I can select the text when I am just using a cursor, but the touchup text tool cannot seem to find it. The pdfs I am creating are very simple, but they work for everything I need them to work for except the touchup tool. Is there some coding I have to put in to make the text editable? Thanks for any help.

It does not say anything about about the pdf being broken when I open it in acrobat, where is the problem with it? I have a program that created this pdf file so I do not know how to fix it if it is broken.

Hand tool does not work

Hello
The hand tool in my Photoshop CS4 has never worked. I have tried trashing the preferences, and uninstalling re-stalling the program.
Can anyone tell me, if I upgrade to CS5, is that liokely to reslove the hand problem. - i.e would CS5 override the CS4 hand problem and put things right?

has anyone else had a problem with the hand tool not working.It is a real nightmare, and makes the program impossible to use.I have tried keyboard hack app, trashing preferences, re-install, quitting Firefox.The hand tool works when the scroll sliders are showing, - but of course that is too small a workspace.I think this probem has lasted several years from reading various posts about it.Does anyone have any more advice about how to mend this problem?

Keyer edge tool does not work. What am I doing wrong?

When I am trying to soften the edge on my green screened image I try to use what they call the edge tool.
But it does nothing to the edge of the image, it makes the entire keyed image more transparent or more opaque... this is totally useless... I thought I remembered this working in a previous version but maybe not...
what am I doing wrong? Or is it just not working correctly.

You will see a "New Identity Profile" (Ctrl+Alt+M) in the "Firefox > New Tab" menu and in the File menu (press F 10 if the menu bar is hidden) and in the context menu if you right-click a link.<br />
Choosing that menu entry will open a new window with a new set of cookies marked multifox-profile-2 in the cookie manager.
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
