Gradient to a shape/keep "Stylize" effects as vector

I drawing a phone in Illustrator and I'm trying to make an iPad-like bezel. I have two options for achieving a darker area on the edges of the bezel:
1: Use inner glow, but I want it to export to SVG as a vector effect and not linked/embedded image.
2: Gradient along the inside of the bezel that matches its curvature, which I don't know how to do.
A solution to make either option work as I said is what I'm looking for. Either or.

Especially with things intended for the web, keep the number of elements to a minimum. In Blends, be sure to use Specify Steps and don't go nuts with the number of steps. The sample shown contains only 6 paths in the bezel.
SVG supports grad fills. Realize, you can blend between grad fills. For optimum results, make sure the blended paths have the same number of anchorPoints, and the same number of color stops in their grads.
When done, look at the resulting SVG code and see how complex it is.
but I want it to export to SVG as a vector effect
Illustrator includes a few SVG filters. Realize: just because it's an SVG effect doesn't necessarily mean it's vector, just as in Illustrator not all effects that can be applied to vector paths are vector effects. Personally, for SVG graphics, I would use a program more directly dedicated to SVG. Inkscape, for example.

  • How do I get loops to keep the effect settings I hear when previewing?

    When I place loops into a new track, the effects settings go away and it is simply a dry signal. How can I move a loop from the browser into a new track and have it keep the effects settings that I hear when I preview the loop?

    If you drag a green MIDI loop onto the Arrange window space, it should create a Software instrument track with all the required plug-ins for the sound, so don't drag it to an already existing Software instrument track.
    If you drag it to an audio track it will convert it to an audio file, so obviously the instrument/fx plug-ins wont be in the channel strip.
    If that's what you mean?

  • Applying gradient to a shape's edge

    Hello.  I have a curved shape which is a light color.  I want to create a dark outline and have it fade into the light color as a gradient would, uniformly following the curved shape.  Any ideas?  Thanks
    Photoshop elements 8

    Try this
    Use the custom shape tool to "draw" your shape
    Place a blank layer below this and name it "stroke"
    Press CTRL+click the shape layer thumbnail to make it active
    Still on the blank layer, go to Edit>stroke, position it center, use a wide stroke - try 60 px
    Go to Layer menu>New fill layer>gradient
    Make the shape layer active, and clip the layers  - CTRL+G
    Back to the gradient fill layer, select your gradient to suit
    Here is a print screen so that you can visualize the layer structure. It's all done in PSEv.8.

  • How to only keep overlapping parts of vector shapes

    I have a vector shape on top of a vector path drawing. The shape on top protrudes over the edge of the drawing underneath. Is there an easy way to simply remove the part of the shape that overhangs?
    In the screenshot here, I want to remove the part of the green circle that is not on the underlying green shape:

    Have you tried the Knife tool? Alternatively, you can draw a retangle over the area you want to remove, select both objects and then and choose Modify > Combine Paths > Punch.

  • Convert raster effect to vector

    Is there a simple and easy way to convert a piece of art with a raster effect to vector? I have a rectangle with a gradient with the Graphic pen effect applied, but my client needs it all in vector to produce the piece (a belt buckle). The only thing I've come up with is to expand the appearance and then Live Trace it. Haven't been totally satisfied with the results, still playing with the trace options, but I wanted to see if anybody else had a better and more accurate way of going about it.

    The belt buckle will probably be made from a mold or die. Any artwork can be used for a mold or die as long as the resolution is high enough. If the buckle will be made using a computer controlled router, then you'll need vector artwork to provide paths that direct the router.
    Auototrace using Live paint. Play with the settings. And don't be surprised if the router operator balks at too many small paths or too rough an outline.

  • How to keep layer effects on one layer from affecting an other layer?

    Hello:
    I am quite new to Ps and though I am reading as much as possible I could still use a bit more help.
    I have found that when I use the Layer Styles on one layer and then make a new layer or select a shape that creates a new layer that when I go to add Styles to the new layer/new shape the previous layer is affected by how I set the Bevel & Emboss, Direction, Altitude, Drop Shadow etc etc.
    For instance, let's say I have a ...
    BG > New Layer > draw an ellipse and then add a Bevel with an  > Angle of 89 and an Altitude of 30 and then I add a New Layer > open the Styles and go to change the Angle to say +89 or whatever and the Altitude to say 45 ... the first Layer/Shape Effects change.
    Can someone tell me how I can keep one Layer from being affected by an other Layers Effects'?
    I have found that if I Rasterize a Layer Effect that I can add a "double" effect on the same layer but I haven't tried the to do this with separate layers. However, for most of the work I am doing I cannot use the Raster because everything needs to be true vectors.
    I would certainly and greatly appreciate any ideas/advice that anyone may have. If you need more info from me or a better explanation I will try to better explain.
    I have a Dell Laptop/Windows 7 Home Premium that's a 64 bit

  • Help please: gradient to follow shape 'swirl' then fade out to transparent

    Hi
    I was wondering if anyone could possible help me on the best way to go about what i would love to achieve...
    Above is my shape that I have created (its a swirl to go above some text for a logo) I would like the gradient to follow the swirl around rather than being at a fixed angle that it is currently now.  I am trying to create a light moving type effect really with the CYMK colours... I would like each edge at the LHS end to be either in colour then the centre bit to be fading to transparent (or vice versa - not decided yet) so the end looks like something similar to below.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated - I am relatively new to illustrator and only really know the basics of basics that have seemed to have got my by so far but would love to know & learn more...
    Many thanks,
    T

    That's how I got to Carnegie Hall…Practice…Practice…Practice:and of course the subway I took and the ticket I bought.
    It was a really good show and worth the effort.
    You'll get there once you're familar with the tool.
    A hint in CS 5 and beyond you can give an point in the gradient mesh transparency. Select the point and go to the Transparency Panel and lower the opacity and there you are.

  • Smart Shapes flashing during effects

    I have a series of cascading animations of Smart shapes.  Let's call them one through ten. All have alpha 0% to 100% and fly-in effects applied. During the animation of shape one, shape two will appear for a brief flash and then disappear. During the animation of shape two, shape three will appear for a brief flash and then disappear, and so on.  This happens both when I use 'Preview in Browser' and when I publish. I've tried using the 'Fade In Only' transition instead of the alpha effect, with no change.
    Thoughts?

    Does it work fine if you only use the Alfa ToFrom Effect with 0 to 100% value?
       I still get the flashing problem when I take out the Fly-in effect.
    Can you also verify the timing properties for smart shape two, does it extend to a single or multiple slide?
      All the animations begin and end within a single slide.
    Does it occur when you preview in F4.
      Yes.
    It looks like the behavior goes away if I turn off 'Use as Button' so I think I can do a workaround where I do the animation slide with just the dummy Smart Shapes then immediately progress to a slide with the Active buttons.  This does seem to be a glitch, however.

  • Transform Gradient Tool center pt keeps appearing on the left edge of the stage and it's annoying..

    I'm editing gradients in small areas.  When I want to edit the gradient fill of a small shape, I have to zoom all the way out because the center of the gradient is on the left edge of the stage somewhere.  I'm getting a little tired of dragging the center point over to the small area requiring the fill.
    Occasionally the Transform Gradient Tool will appear within the zoomed in area I'm working in but I'm unsure why!  Any tips out there my friends?
    Thanks!

  • IOS 8: Keep photo effects after transferring to PC

    Anybody managed to do this except mailing it to yourself (which is not a viable option)? In iOS 7 I was able to do this after re-saving the picture in iPhoto (the effect remained permanent). But now, in iOS 8, iPhoto is no longer supported.

    As I mentioned in similar thread here:
    Pejik (to AychAychAych)
    I found a perfect solution for this. The app PhotoSync (http://photosync-app.com/photosync/en/features.html) that let you select if you want ios filters applied even though it perfectly keeps exif metadata and offers a bunch of other cool things (exporting back and forth between various services and protocols) that even made me improve my workflow (i now use it with Lightroom´s auto import feature so as soon as i get home, PhotoSync automatically exports all my new iphone photos to specific folder on NAS where it will be later autoimported by LR).
    No need for a workaround by sending tons of images by email anymore!

  • How do I change an image but keep the effects from the previous image?

    I made a simple slideshow with 4 photos that are individually set to fade in and out in order.  I have saved this as a new file and want to change the 4 images to different ones, but still keep the same effects settings.  Seems like this should be really easy, but I just can't find a way to delete the photo without also losing the effects.  Any help is much appreciated ... Thanks!!!

    Your probably using tabbed document windows and photoshop cs2 had floating document windows.
    Of course you can use File>Close (Ctrl+W) or click on the small X on the tab.

  • Problems with exporting gradients in svg // illustrator keeps adding strange classes

    I'm currently working on some icons for our new agency website... When try to export  files with gradients, which assigned to nicely named graphic styles, illustrator keeps exporting a strange st-class for every new gradient i'm generating and refuses to assign my class, like:
    <style type="text/css">
              .testStyle{fill:url(#SVGID_1_);}  //my class with a useless gradient
              .st0{fill:url(#testrect_1_);} // class generated by illustrator
    </style>
    <linearGradient id="SVGID_1_" gradientUnits="userSpaceOnUse" x1="0" y1="0" x2="1" y2="0"> // useless gradient with no height?!
              <stop  offset="0" style="stop-color:#FFFFFF"/>
              <stop  offset="1" style="stop-color:#000000"/>
    </linearGradient>
    <linearGradient id="testrect_1_" gradientUnits="userSpaceOnUse" x1="118" y1="200.5" x2="400" y2="200.5"> // correct gradient
              <stop  offset="0" style="stop-color:#FFFFFF"/>
              <stop  offset="1" style="stop-color:#000000"/>
    </linearGradient>
    <rect id="testrect" x="118" y="117" class="st0" width="282" height="167"/>
    </svg> // rectangle which should have .testStyle on it
    In a correct way, it should be:
    <style type="text/css">
              .testStyle{fill:url(#testrect_1_);}
    </style>
    <linearGradient id="testrect_1_" gradientUnits="userSpaceOnUse" x1="118" y1="200.5" x2="400" y2="200.5"> // correct gradient
              <stop  offset="0" style="stop-color:#FFFFFF"/>
              <stop  offset="1" style="stop-color:#000000"/>
    </linearGradient>
    <rect id="testrect" x="118" y="117" class="testStyle" width="282" height="167"/>
    </svg>
    When i change the code by myself, it works properly. But it's actually no option to change every svg by hand...
    Do you have any ideas what's happening there and how to possibly avoid it?!
    Thanks in advance,
    Flo

    how to possibly avoid it?!
    Don't use Illustrator?! Sorry, but you're dealing with the dumbest program on the planet when doing SVG in AI. Which of course is ironic, considering Adobe kinda invented the format. If you want code-style control, you probably will have much better luck with any other program or even JavaScript-based online SVG generators. Possibly you can do some of that with Edge, also, but I don't use it in any way, so I can't vouch for how extensive and usable its SVG features are.

  • Again with the Continuously Rasterize of 3D Shape Layers and Effects Problem in CS3

    Hi! I have been looking into the forum for some help about this issue and although it have found a lot of related threads I really can't make this combination of features works well...
    I mean I can't apply any "Distort" effect to any 3D "Shape Layer" cause finally the effect cause unexpected results (basically the effects loose his "alignment" with the layer as soon as I transform that layer even if I make a Pre-comp and apply the transformation there (cause I still need rasterization activated on it to maintain quality in zooms and scales). So, really could be a way that allow me to apply this effects to a continuously rasterized layer (or Pre-com) and it works as well as if they were applied to a Solid/Image Layer when use some kind of transformation or camera movement over it? Uf, I still really hope so...
    Well, I'm now a little desperated so I'll be very grateful for any help; and sorry if I'm missing something obvious but I think I have tried all the possibilities (pre-compound and turn off 3D Layer option on both items with any combination, turn on or off rasterize option here and there too, apply the effect in the pre-comp layers or in the comp ones, etc...) and I think at this moment I start to loosing my faith...
    PS: Ouh, and I hope you understand my "English" too...

    >So, really could be a way that allow me to apply this effects to a
    >continuously rasterized layer (or Pre-com) and it works as well as if
    >they were applied to a Solid/Image Layer when use some kind of
    >transformation or camera movement over it?
    That's completely impossible. It goes against how AE effects (and ultimately the entire render pipeline) work. I think I know what you are hoping to achieve, but it is mathematically and technically illogical. Displacment effects work on pixels, not the original vector data, anyways. Only dedicated vector effects can manipulate path contours. AE is no different than Illustrator or Freehand in that regard.
    Also: whenever you change the scale of a Shape Layer, you change the size of of the vector data which is then rasterized based on the bounding box and in some cases the cropping area defined by the composition borders. Therefore the layer size would steadily increase anyways and the result of your displacement would be different for each frame - what looks okay with 5px displacment values at frame 1 would barely be noticable on a layer that is "blown up" to 10 times the size on frame 100.
    So for all intents and purposes you need to work with big layers and without continuous rasterization, no matter how much you may dislike it.
