If you're going to read a date, what's wrong with getDate()? I don't see the point of the StringTokenizer at all. That's got to be wasting time.
But your run time could easilly be dominated by the database retrieval, so I'd focus on that.
Experiment with Statement.setFetchSize(). Try a few hundred, for a start. More than that is unlikely to make a significant difference and that might even be two high.
What database are you using? With some of them there are alternative connection strategies, for example using a unix socket rather than an TCP/IP socket.

Hello Verizon customers and workers,
Here's my problem......
I have a family plan with 5 lines, 4 smartphones, 1 non-smartphone.
Now the non-smartphone is due for an upgrade, but I want to give it to a smartphone line, because on of our smartphones no longer works. So it was all ok when I moved the take upgrade from a different line to the smartphone line, until I went to pick out the iphone, now it doesnt give me the option to move the upgrade to a different line. Now I don't want to make non-smartphone line a smartphone plan. I want to keep my family plan as is, 5 lines with 4 smartphones. So my question is how do I use that upgrade on a different line without changing the plan? I live on the east coast and stayed up til 3am just to have my heart broken by not being able to order my new Iphone. If you can answer this, you will make my day.

i believe you need to just get the upgrade on the non smart phone then once you get the phone just activate it on the line you want. there are a few threads already on how to do that. the line shouldnt switch to a "smart phone line" unless you activate it on that line. even if it does you can call support or go into a store and sort it out

I'm in exactly the same boat as you... gonna be using it as my primary computer, graduating college soon, and my first mac. I'll be going with the 13 inch MacBook Air.
The Pro and the Air are nearly identical performance-wise and so that means the only advantage of the Pro is the storage space (unless you count the cd drive as an advantage). The Air is way more portable and has a better display, I don't know about you but my current cd drive rarely gets used so might as well get rid of it.
I have also compared them side-by-side in the store and that was really what won me over to the Air. The 11-inch Air was there too but the screen just seems too small, especially if you are doing work/writing essays etc.

Someone mind answering a few questions?

I have a coupld of questions that may be kind of specific and I kind of need the answers explained in layman's terms. I'm new to Adobe video editing, so please be gentle.
I am doing a video project for school with a few friends. We shot on a Canon Optura 40 (records with tape). I got imported the footage into an AVI file and I imported that into my trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (I recently got After Effects for another project). I have edited the footage a bit and then my friend calls me. He says that he wants to edit it after I do.
So my first question is can I transfer an Adobe Premiere project (on trial version) to my friends computer (he has the full version)? Will everything be able to transfer over? Should I not edit a particular thing (effects, etc) because it won't transfer? And how would I go about doing it?
All I've done so far is cut all the actual footage together. Should I just stop and get him to edit it all? He'd be rather annoyed if he had to do it all, so I will try anything I guess. He says that I need to put it on a DVD but I don't know if that will work.

My 30 Gig ipod Video has been working fine and today I pluged in my ipod to upload some more songs and this poped up
and It deleted everything on my ipod i don't know what this means or why it even poped up . Songs on the iPod"Kevin W Mills's iPod" Cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist.
and I have another question if I restore my ipod to its factory settings it says it will erase everything does it mean just erase everything on the ipod itself or ipod and the itunes library or just the itunes library ?

Th eplaylis tyou hae schosen to ut onto the iPod has been deleted.
Select the iPod in iTunes.
Click on the Music tab and select a new playlist or change the drop down to sync all.
Restoring will format (erase) the iPod and reinstall the iPod OS.

Help me please i hav a few questions

Right...i just got a new ipod shuffle generation 2 and everytime i plug it in my comp says found new hardware, so i instal it and it says an error has occured, then my ipod keeps flashing orange (i think it means do not disconnect) and it doesnt stop flashingand it hasnt come up in my itunes either any1 can help me? apreciate it and also, does it charge whilst it is flashing orange?

Considering iWeb/iPhoto, Few questions...

I havent used iPhoto in some time, but recently am thinking about switching to it to make pic mgmt easier. I also regularly use JAlbum to create and post a photo site with about ~1800 pics in it and another site with ~200 pics in it.

I've read alot of posts in here and am confused about the term "Domain" when used with the iWeb application. I do have my own domain where I host my photo site and blog, but I don't think that is what is being referred to as "domain".
My questions are:
1) Is an iWeb domain, basically a "site"? One set of html pages/images? Like each structure above being a "domain"?
2) With 09, the ability to manage multiple "domains" seems to be coming. Given my description above, it sounds like it will do what I want. Am I wrong?
3) If I add 30 pics to a gallery does iWeb upload the entire thing or just the changes. I read in getting started that it would "sync" it and I assume it means just changes are published. Is this correct?
4) How fast is it? Can it manage 2000 pictures across mutliple sites efficiently on a Powerbook G4 1.67hgz with 1.5gb ram?
Thx in advance. I dont want to purchase until I know it will do what I want.

1 - there's the Domain.sites2 file/package that resides in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. This package contains all of the files that you add to your web site and the necessary files that iWeb adds for creating a finished web site. It is the heart and soul of your site. If it's deleted or otherwise lost you'll have to start over from scratch to rebuild your site. There's also the domain name which is a name you can purchase from a domain name provider and have forwarded to your site. So when someone enters your special domain name in the browser URL window it will take them to your site.
2 - not sure what you mean. Your structure only shows one site or is John, Mary, TripEvents separate sites? If all of that is in one site it can get unwieldy. I have a personal site of over 45 individual sites. Each individual site acts like a page in the overall site. That way I can add new sites, do publish all to MMe for a site without having to publish every other page or site. Just what ever works best for you. I currently use iWebSites to manage my multiple sites, create and rename new sites, etc. It's not clear to me if the reference to managing multiple sites for iWeb 09 refers to individual site domain files or multiple sites within one domain file as it is now. We'll just have to wait and see when it's shipped.
For what it's worth, I use iWebSites to manage over 40 individual sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. Again, it works for me.
3 - are you referring to an iPhoto web gallery or an iWeb album? In iPhoto only the changes are uploaded or removed for the gallery. It's the same in iWeb.
4 - If everything was in one domain file it could get a little sluggish. My slowest computer that I work with iWeb is my G5 (see below). One of my sites, my test site is 33 pages and has a variety of examples of different "stuff' on it and it does get a little slow when typing in a text box. Moving things around, however, does not seem to be affected.

Recently I, like many of you, updated to iTunes v.7 and iPod s-ware v.1.2. Here a few things that I have noticed that may or may not answer some questions.
With the new update on my iPod: (30GB 5gen.)
I now have gapless playback, which is the best thing to happen to MP3's since the iPod, IMHO.
I have brightness control, which I used once to lower the brightness, handy, but not a deal breaker for me.
I have "Quick Scroll" don't know if that's the official title, but a letter will show up in the middle of the screen when you are scrolling thru a long list. This has come in handy. I don't have the alphabetical search, where you can use the wheel to select letters, but I don't think I would use it anyway.
I have volume limiter, I believe this was included with s-ware update v.1.1 that was released early 2006.
I am able to import games off of iTunes, which I now play Tetris until I kill the battery
I am not sure about the improved battery life that is supposed to be a result of the s-ware, just because I haven't done a test to determine that. I just push play while I'm at work, and I've never run out of battery yet.
I haven't run into any problems thus far using my iPod with the new s-ware, thankfully. I'm not sure why so many people have.
Hope this helps if anyone was curious as to what to expect with the new updates.

Which model do you currently own? If I were going to purchase a 'new' machine, I would visit the Apple refurbished store and purchase a 15" 2012 NON-RETINA model. It's user upgradable , has USB 3.0 ports (a big plus for me) and is fairly recent. I don't know what I'll do when my machine eventually dies - I've already purchased a Windows notebook to replace it - but I don't see myself giving up on Macs entirely.
The only NEW non-Retina machine that Apple sells is the 13" model - if you can live with a 13" screen, you might want to look it over. Otherwise, I would shop for a refurb mid-2012 15" machine.

I'm using Forms6i patch11. I've got a web application with a block based on a table like this :
TMP_STORED_FILE(file_name varchar2(256),

The application allow the user to select a picture on the hard disk, and to store it in the database.
I use the read_image_file to show the picture in an Image item (based on the file column of the table).
When the user perform a commit, I'm not sure that the file is correctly stored in the table... what do
you think ?
Now, I want to show in the image item the picture stored in the table when a record is queried. I saw many java sample code supposed to do that, but do I really have to use java ??
I saw that if I want to show the picture, I have first to re-create the file, and then to use read_image_file again. So : why should I store the pictures ? I mean : I wanted to store the pictures so that I can control
the access to them. I wanted to delete the files after they have been stored. But if I have to recreate them,
what about keep the files on the server and never store anything but the pathname and the filename ???
At least, I could control the security at the directory level, what do you think ?

Yes, thanks. I tried to commit the pictures yesterday, and I thought it was ok, but in fact nothing was
inserted in my blob. I thought it was ok, because I found in the metalink the following :
fix: To read the image stored in BLOB column of some database table into an image item in forms block,
the item should have property 'Database Item'= No Image items can only be populated in two ways:
1. with read_image_file built-in In this case file needs to be read from a local filesystem (or from the middle- tier for webforms)
Or
2. directly from database table by fetching In this case the image item must be based on database column of BLOB or LONG RAW
datatype, and cannot be a control item. There is no interface how to manipulate value of an image item programmatically.
Possible solutions are:
1. get file from BLOB column in database into local file system as some temporary file, then use read_image_file.
<Note:66312.1> describes the steps for BFILEs, it needs to be modified for BLOB columns.
Or
2a) create temporary table with BLOB column, copy image from BLOB storage table into it using stored procedure with DBMS_LOB package.
<Note:61737.1> describes using DBMS_LOB package in detail. In forms create a separate block based on this temporary table,
only with image item visible, and display just copied image
Or
2b) have separate block based on BLOB storage table, only the image item visible, and always restrict where clause to select only the one
particular image. The second way is probably easier to implement.
Case 2a could be slower than the first one or 2b.
Maybe I didn't understand it correctly (my english is not so good after all).
Anyway, I finally succeed in inserting my pics.

I am writing an assignment on Photoshop techniques and am wondering if anyone can help me by answering a few questions?
1. Why are image resolution and quality so important?
2. What is colour enhancement and what controls are there for this in Photoshop/what do these controls do?
3. Why is layering important when creating a piece of work on Photoshop?
4. How are opacity and transparency useful when creating images on Photoshop?
I am finding it extremely hard to find answers for these questions, as well as not being able to explain any of it well. Photoshop techniques can be quite hard to talk about. I am having trouble so please help!!

Resolution:
Actually a digital image’s resolution is pretty much irrelevant – what counts is the effective resolution, respectively the pixel count.
What this means in practice:
Suppose you have a large image (like A3) and it has 300ppi – this means basically that it can be printed as A3 (in commercial print processes) and it will output as well as the image is (if it’s sharp it will be as sharp as the process allows, if not then not).
But if graphic designers decide, for example, that they want to use only a small section (like one person that is only a small part of a much larger image) of the image and print that as A3 the original resolution being 300ppi is meaningless.
The effective resolution is determined by the dimensions and resolution of the original image and the scale at which it is being reproduced. Or put another way: the pixel count of the section of the image that is actually being output and its output size.
Whether an image claims to be 72ppi or 300ppi it’s actually the pixels that count.

Considering ipod touch over ipod classic, a few questions

Hello, I was hoping some of the current users of the iPod touch 2nd generation cna answer a few questions for me concerning the ipod touch, particularly those with an ipod classic as well.
I have had a 160 GB iPod classic for about a year. I had to take it back to be replaced twice because of harddrive failures. After I got the last new one I was fed up and decided to sell it on ebay. I have heard there were issues with the 80 and 160 GBs and the 120 is much better. There is a software upgrade that includes using the genious feature on your ipod for the 120's that was never available for the 160's. And since they discontinued the 160's, I'm assuming there was definately something wrong with that and Apple is too proud to admit to it, so they just roll with the 120's. So with that in mind I figured I'd sell my current 160 since the worst I could do is get the better model of the classic?
So then I started thinking, what about an iPod touch? Here are my concerns with goign with a touch over a classic...
The WiFi would be a huge benefit. I travel a lot and often don't feel like bringing my laptop with me. So when browsing the internet, I was wondering how it worked with Hotmail? With facebook? I know youtube works, but how does it work with other sites that are heavy with Adobe FlashPlayer, like Hulu.com? Or watch news clips from CNN or other things like that.
I use my ipod a lot in my car, and I don't think the touch screen would be very good for this to switch songs, anybody have any experience with this?
The flash drive is very appealing to me since I had 2 classics harddrive fail, but the small size is a concern, anybody have any opinions?
Can the touch be used in disk mode? Does it store full resolution files of photos?
I'm not big into games, but if I had a touch I know I would start.
Will I just get spoiled and wish it was an iPhone or something with 3G connection to the net?

The 160GB Classic was essentially the 1st Generation Classic, it was replaced by the 2nd Generation 120GB Classic, which as you have pointed out has the Genius feature etc. With the exception of the most recent Shuffle, Apple always discontinues production of the previous generation, and it has nothing to do with Apple admitting to anything. I too had to go through 2 160s before the 3rd one worked correctly, it happens. Did the Classic you sold on eBay work correctly.
Thanks to changes by Microsoft you can now use the mail app on the Touch with a hotmail account.
There is a Facebook app in the iTunes App Store, I don't use it so I can't vouch for it but you can go to the Apps Store and read the reviews.
There is no Flash plugin available for the Touch and it is probably going to be 2010 before one is available so no you won't be able to use Hulu.com, etc.
It will be harder to switch songs on the Touch in your car unless you install an iPod connection kit (if your radio supports it, the will allow you to control the Touch from your radio/steering wheel/whatever.
If you have a large iTunes library and want it always with you then you need to lean towards the Classic. If you can live with swapping things around you can go with the Touch. A big advantage to the Touch is the plethora of applications that are available on the iTunes Store, many of them free.
You cannot currently use the Touch in disk mode (don't know if version 3.0, coming this summer will add this) and it does not store full resolution files of photos.
I had a first generation Touch which I purchased on the same day that I bought my 160GB Classic. I sold the Touch and moved to the iPhone, you get spoiled with 3G access.

I'm sure this has been asked before so I apologize in advance - I'm new to this forum and I'm not quite sure of which section I should be in. If I may just describe a certain scenario of something I am trying to create - could you please point me in the right direction?
I'm looking to create a summary report/form to help me better organize my patients after each appointment. So data collected from other fillable forms I've created, will lead to the final page to print that will include selections from fillable text boxes or drop down lists, etc to basically summarize each encounter. It should go something like this:
FORM 1:
-pt chart #
-pg age
-purpose for visit
-date of visit
-diagnosis
-prognosis
-etc
SUMMARY page
On (-date of visit), patient (-pt chart #) arrived with complaint of (-purpose for visit)....
The diagnosis was determined to be (-diagnosis), treatment to be performed is suggested to be (-treatment) with a (-prognosis) prognosis. Treatment was (accepted or not) and completed on... etc. etc... you get the idea
Does anyone know how I can do this?

I have scanned the Internet looking for a solution, some recommend including Xecers in the Classpath. I downloaded Xerces 2.7.1 and added it to as instructed but this did not work.

Can not start data Collection service

I have installed Fabric Manager version 3.3.(4). In the Performance Web Client I can not start the service Data Collection is in starting forever.
I also could not stop it. I rebooted the server and the status for this service is in starting.

Please provide more details like: Server OS, Java version, and what type of database you are using for the FM Server. Have you considered using a newer version of FM Server?

LMS 3.2 Data Collection Issue

I have LMS 3.2 and license for adding 5000 devices , my data collection is running continously for the past 2 days, when i try to stop the daemon manager and restart it comes to idle state but after some time it again goes to Running state
I am not getting the best practices deviations and discrepaqncies report after this issue
