Graduated filter issues

The Issues I am having in lightroom 4.4 is the Panel is different then the one shown on sites,  I do not have the noise slider, the moire slider, the defringe slider  nadda nothing.  second issue I am having is the eccect is reversed witht eh lighter part on top and the darker part on bottom.  Any help would be greatly appreciated .   thanks David

Click the dark black triangle in the red square shown here.
The Graduated Filter will always draw in the direction you make it. The click is 100% and the release is 0% of effect. So you can draw the other direction or you can invert the filter with the Apostrophe key [ ' ]

The error report message in the Event manager is:

Is this to be interpreted that there is a font that is corrupt?
What does pulling up a graduated filter have to do with font size?
Starting v2.2 up again and the image has whatever adjustments previous to the filter. Apply the filter in the same manner and it does what is expected.
    This has happened twice today.

    I filed a bug report.
Did a search on the ui.dll and there are several instances of this error-Lightroom past versions and other softwares.
Microsoft says in their articles that:
Port monitor user interface dll contains ui functionality and executes on print client systems. Must reside in System32 directory.
The above statement might not apply to a 64 Os system.
The sole ui.dll on my HD is in the Lightroom folder (3,292Kb dated 11/24/2008 v2.2(523352)com.adobe.ag.ui. All other ui type dll's have additional letters preceding the ui.
This computer is now 2 months old and I haven't got round to installing a printer and its drivers. I don't think that is the issue.
The AVG scanner went into operation as soon as this lock-up occurred on both occassions. Shutting the computer down was the only way to remove that icon reporting that a scan was in place. Right click- Scanning the ui.dll reported nothing. I have put the Lightroom cataloque subfiles on the exception list of the AVG scanner.
Overall, its not a big deal for all was not lost with the image in question. It was just a comeuppance with the fresh install of 2.2 since version 2.1 was doing just fine installed on a new machine therefore no other versions etc. involved.

  • LR2 hang in develop module with graduated filter

I was in the Develop module and had just used the graduated filter to draw up from the bottom of the image. When I let go of the pen, the hourglass appeared and LR stopped responding. Many minutes later, I finally gave up and clicked on the window's close button. I got the usual Windows "app is not responding" dialog and told Windows to kill lightroom.
While LR was in the hung state, I started Procmon to see if anything interesting was visible there. While I saw no activity in lightroom.exe, I did see an endless series of operations in csrss.exe. These two operations were repeated endlessly:
    543751 10:32:26.2519678 PM csrss.exe 1372 RegOpenKey HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read
    543752 10:32:26.2519724 PM csrss.exe 1372 RegOpenKey HKU\.Default\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read
After killing lightroom, I no longer saw that pair of operations.
I have no idea whether this could be related to the lightroom hang or not, but thought I would pass it on in case it provided a clue.
Running Windows XP SP2 with all updates (except SP3) applied, nVidia 7600 GT, E6700 Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM (3.2 GB available), plentiful hard drive space free. Catalog is new with LR2 by re-importing all images; catalog was not converted from 1.4.1.

I'm having the same issue with graduated filter and adjustment brush and also one othe the predefined settings, I forgto which one, but it would lock up LR ervery time. My 30 day trial is now over and I think that I'm going to wait for LR2.x to be released :<(...

  • Lightroom 5 Graduated filter will not work from the centre out

    Hi
I am running Lightroom 5.6 but I think this has always been the same. The Graduated filter in the Basic Development module only seems to work from the edges inward (from top/bottom or sides). I would like to create a filter across the centre (for a lake) but I can figure how to do this. I guess the only way is to use the new Radial filter is that correct (I would prefer to use the Grad filter).

To create the equivalent of a Graduated filter with the effect starting at the center you can drag the radial filter endpoint to stretch it off-screen. Use the hand tool to push the radial filter off-screen and then drag the endpoint out further. You may need to do this a few times. You can also use two Graduated filters back to back, which gives you the ability to apply a centered Exposure correction and adjustments for Highlights and Shadows correction that are different on each side.

  • Filter Issues in P6.2.1

I am facing filter issues in P6.2.1. I used the customized filter for "Planned but Not Started". Below shown were the combination i used to create the filter. but when i run the filter no activities were shown under WBS, i mean empty WBS
    1. Early Start - within a range of - PS - DD
    Activity Status - Not Started.
    2. Early Start - less than or equal to - DD
    Activity Status - Not Started.

    Hi,
My feeling is that perhaps you don't have any task that is late.
If not, please try following filter:
Start is less than or equals to DD
    Activity staus not started yet
    I hope it helps.
    Regards,

In this episode of The Complete Picture, discover the power of making selective adjustments like dodging and burning, color corrections and noise removal using the Graduated Filter and Adjustment Brush in Lightroom 4. Note: although this video was recorded in Lightroom, the same techniques are available in Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CS6.

  • Lost black highlight associated to adjustment brush, radial filter, graduated filter [was: stupid problem]

lost black highlight associated to adjustment brush, radial filter, graduated filter and actions are showing up in small navigator window

    Hi Eric
    Thanks for your reply
I've had another look at it... whenever I have a negative exposure setting on the brush or gradient and apply it anywhere in the image it seems to affect the top end highlights throughout the image even if they haven't been clicked on.
It's just a small change but it is frustrating to lose highlight detail when you've worked hard to capture it in camera!
Look forward to hearing from you.

  • Graduated filter and Adjustment brush always use "last used effect"

In my workfow I mostly use opposite effects in the Graduated filter and Adjustment brush.
Lightroom maintains "least used effect" even when changing tools.
Is it possible that each tool retains its last used effect?
In my workflow I mostly use opposite effects when using Adjustment brush en gradient filter. Changing the effects wastes a lot of time when editing hundreds of images.

I agree that it would be nice if the individual tools remembered their own last used preset.
Unfortunately LR does not work that way.

  • Highlight loss when using adjustment brush & graduated filter.

    Hi
    I'm using Lightroom 2.2 on a Mac.
Is anyone else having the same problem? :
When using the graduated filter or adjustment brush on an image it seems to cause some of the top end highlights to burnout, which is rather frustrating as it is usually when I am trying to rein them in a little.
It seems to happen automatically even when not working directly on those areas and I cannot pull them back with the localised adjustment tools themselves.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
    Thanks
    Graham

  • Can't apply Graduated Filter and Radial Filter in LR5 (photo becomes grey box)

    Hi,
I am using the Lightroom 5, every functions are working fine, except the Graduated Filter and Radial Filter casuing me a problem.
When I click on the Graduated Filter / Radial Filter button, and trying to apply the filter (i.e. draw the eclipse) on my photo, my photo in the central pane immediately turns grey, as per below screenshot.
I have to click the Library Module and then click Develop Module in order to get back the photo showing in the central pane, but the same problem appears if I tried to use the Graduated and Radial Filters.
Anybody knows the root cause and solution ? Please kindly help. Thank you !

The easiest thing should be to simply apply the preset to an image, then choose to Update with Current Settings and make sure Graduated Filter is unchecked. Move through all of your presets like this.
I don't know how many suspect presets you have to go through, but you can also manually edit them with a simple text editor to remove the Graduated filter. If you right-click on the preset, you can show in Explorer/Finder. Open the file in Notepad/TextEdit and simply remove the GradientBasedCorrections section (this has many sub-fields, most of which start with "Local"). Save the file and move on to the next.

  • Graduated Filter creates saturated image

Still getting to grips with Lightroom 3 and the graduated filter is working in strange ways. When I apply it the whole image goes super saturated and high in contrast. I have to click back in the history and then back on to the latest adjustment to make it go away. Anyone else seen anything similar?
    OS X 10.5.8

    original image
grad applied to top half and whole image goes supersaturated
click back in history and then forward and all is at it should be.
    Lightroom 2 didn't do this.

  • Graduated filter - remember last settings?

When I use the graduated filter on a picture I adjust highlights, exposure etc, and then go to another picture.  Then if I choose radial tool, the settings from the last pic's graduated filter are there!  If I change the settings on the adjustment brush and go to another picture and choose graduated filter, the settings are from the adjustment brush.
How do I force lightroom to remember the last settings for each of the filters ( radial tool and the adjustment brush, graduated filter) and not contaminate the other two?
    I hope I am clear.

    Yes.
Click and hold the two small vertical bars bottom of each column while holding down the Option key and drag either way to desired width.
Close the Finder window then re open it.

  • Lightroom style Graduated filter?

I just started working with DNG images, which I thought was great because I could color correct them in Lightroom 5, which I'm used to because I have a background in stills. However I quickly realized if I put any graduated filters or such down, of course they won't follow any camera movements. I know Resolve can do tracking, and I see Premiere can now / soon too.
So far I wanted to reduce the saturation of a frosty paddock, while boosting it in the sky for the sunrise. It seemed the best way to do that was a graduated filter. Is that possible in Premiere? Or do I need to look at After Effects or Resolve for that?
Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!

There are reports that tracking doesn't work so well but, in theory, you could do this by applying masks to each area, color correcting them separately, and then tracking them.
The masking/tracking options are available in color correction effects -- fast, 3-way, luma curve, etc.  To treat these two areas, you'd apply two such effects to the clip, for the two different areas -- draw the mask, color correct that masked area and track it.  Add these effects above any primary corrections, otherwise you may get strange behavior -- the order of the effects is important and sometimes, in unpredictable ways.  And again, can't vouch for tracking, you'll need to try.

  • Graduated filter migration to lightroom 4 (editing lost when upgrading)

After upgrading from 3 to 4, some editing is lost. In my case, the use of graduated filter with various effects are completely lost. How can I recover the edits?

How did you upgrade? Are the "effects" zeroed or just changed? Did you
    update process version to 2012?

  • Essbase Security Filter issue.

    Hi,
Its regarding the security filter issue.
The major problem is whosoever user is provisioned under that security filter, if the user is trying to connect to Application using Excel Addin / Smartview, it crashes the essbase server [Network Error [10061], timed out error)]
When we figured out because of this filter essbase server is crashing, we tried to edit the filter. sometimes if we click on edit, it crashes the server or sometimes we can see some junk characters in the filter.
We have applied the security on Entities dimension and problematic filter is ASP.
Now the hirerachy is like this.
Entities dimesnsion and then ASP member and under ASP we have our several members.
    Filter is like this:
    Write : @Idescendants("ASP")
It was working fine for almost 15 days.
Now if i edit the filter, i can see like this:
    Write : @Idescendants("ASP")
    Metaread:@Idescendants("*&^%?)
Junk characters are coming in and no idea from where they are coming.
I can't delete the filter also, again it crashes the essbase server.
As a workaround i have created a temp filter and dome the assignation for this group, according to that.
    Everything is working fine.
I just wanted to know, has anybody faced such kind of problem earlier.
What cud be the root cause for this.
How could I delete the filter.
I have also get messages like security file is corrupted (we have restored it from old backup) but really worried about security file as we are moving the whole thing to production server this weekend.
Please advise me on this, Please help me. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    I am really in trouble.
    Thanks,
    Pankaj Mehta.

Try to edit the filter from MaxL command line using
    alter filter sample.basic.filt7 add write on '@IDescendants("ASP")';
    here sample=application
    basic=database
    filt7=filtername
    have good luck
