Graduated filter - remember last settings?

When I use the graduated filter on a picture I adjust highlights, exposure etc, and then go to another picture.  Then if I choose radial tool, the settings from the last pic's graduated filter are there!  If I change the settings on the adjustment brush and go to another picture and choose graduated filter, the settings are from the adjustment brush.
How do I force lightroom to remember the last settings for each of the filters ( radial tool and the adjustment brush, graduated filter) and not contaminate the other two?
I hope I am clear.

Yes.
Click and hold the two small vertical bars bottom of each column while holding down the Option key and drag either way to desired width.
Close the Finder window then re open it.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 Not Remembering Last Settings & Crashing

    Hello
I am using the latest version of illustrator CS5 on a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo, the rest of my Master Collection work ok except illustrator
Firstly, when ever you quit illustrator it crashes and asks to send a crash report
Second, when you reopen and go to File > Open Recent, there are no previously worked on documents in the list
Thirdly, when i set up the units in inches for example then reopen it the next day, it goes back to milimeters??
Does anyone know how to amend this problem? Apart from that it seems to run fairly smooth
    Thanks

To add to this in case your trash the settings folder and it still happens you have to right or control click on the settings folder in the preferences and go to Get Info and look for Ownership and permissions and you can change it there to read/write.
But when you do so click on the lock icon at the bottom of the Get Info window and then enter your username and password at the bottom of the Get Info there is a gear like icon with an arrow head facing down it will allow you to apply the change to all the contents in the settings folder to read/write.
    To find the Settings folder
    1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS5 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

  • Graduated filter and Adjustment brush always use "last used effect"

In my workfow I mostly use opposite effects in the Graduated filter and Adjustment brush.
Lightroom maintains "least used effect" even when changing tools.
Is it possible that each tool retains its last used effect?
In my workflow I mostly use opposite effects when using Adjustment brush en gradient filter. Changing the effects wastes a lot of time when editing hundreds of images.

I agree that it would be nice if the individual tools remembered their own last used preset.
Unfortunately LR does not work that way.

  • Graduated Filter always comes up with default settings

... of exposure +2 and some other settings in LR2.1. Where can I change this default for the graduated Filter? Annoying: Not (only) the default setting, but the lack of a hard drive based help system or a decent manual for such a product. Getting help for basics takes MUCH too much time. The web is not everything.
    thanks for a help comment.

You can download and print the LR manual as a basic help from here:

  • Remembering last Photo viewed in a folder

    Hello
I am searching high and low and there is probably not a solution but is there a way that lightroom remembers the last photo viewed in a particular folder. For example i am sorting to a folder with say 8000 images for a project. But then I have to stop and work in another folder for something else. When going back to the folder with thee 8000 images it starts on the first one. Now I found a small workaround (I sort my images with name) but I tried to then sort to edit time highlight the the first image then and go back to sort by name and it seems to work but sometimes I do not remember if I seen all them or if I really stopped on that image. So thats why my question is there an option for Lightroom to remember the last image which was highlighted or worked on regardless how the pictures are sorted in the folder.
it would help a lot but as I see not to many threads about that I might be in a minority here

A number of people have requested this -- please see and vote on this topic in the official feedback forum: Lightroom: Remember last image selected in each folder.  Meanwhile, the OddJobs plugin provides this functionality, and the Any Source plugin provides a "back" button that goes back to the previous source (folder, collection, etc.), selection, and filter settings (LR's back button just restores the source).

  • Export book to PDF doesn't remember previous settings - CS5

I've just noted a somewhat annoying "bug" in the book export.  When I export book to PDF--which I do a lot--I have to rename the file and reselect the type of PDF I'm exporting every time. It should remember the last settings I used.I believe in the past that it did.
I also really hate that it always defaults to the interactive PDF--which I will probably never use. Half the time I forget to check that setting, rename the file, click OK, and then have to cancel and go through all the steps again because I forgot that the stupid thing can't remember that I want a Print PDF.  I have gone through this annoying misbehavior several times in just the last few minutes. Add that up over all the hours that I work on books and do that export and we're talking about a huge time waster. Am I missing a way to set a defaullt here?

The book export or the regular export?  Mine definitely always goes back to interactive PDF.  Even after I've saved a print PDF several times.  It's really annoying.

  • Reader 9.3.2 does not remember last page visited for scanned pdfs

Using an old school PPC Mac, OSX 10.4.11.  Reader 9.3.2 does not remember last page visited for scanned pdfs. It only remembers the last page visited for searchable pdfs, but not for scanned.  I have the box checked in "Preferences: Restore last view settings..."  I cannot upgrade Reader on this system, or my OS, so I'm stuck using what I have for now. I have to read huge documents for my work, that will include hand written notes in the margin and other marks on the page. The documents are hundreds of pages long, so it's a bit frustrating that it can't remember the page number for this type.
Are there any fixes for this? Something else I can try?

I tried to find the download for 9.5.5, but my OS is not in the list. I'm on a non-intel PPC mac. I tried finding that version on the web, but most of the links lead me back to Adobe, where it doesn't seem to want to be found. It obviously exists somewhere, but Adobe isn't making it easy to access!

  • Can't apply Graduated Filter and Radial Filter in LR5 (photo becomes grey box)

    Hi,
I am using the Lightroom 5, every functions are working fine, except the Graduated Filter and Radial Filter casuing me a problem.
When I click on the Graduated Filter / Radial Filter button, and trying to apply the filter (i.e. draw the eclipse) on my photo, my photo in the central pane immediately turns grey, as per below screenshot.
I have to click the Library Module and then click Develop Module in order to get back the photo showing in the central pane, but the same problem appears if I tried to use the Graduated and Radial Filters.
Anybody knows the root cause and solution ? Please kindly help. Thank you !

The easiest thing should be to simply apply the preset to an image, then choose to Update with Current Settings and make sure Graduated Filter is unchecked. Move through all of your presets like this.
I don't know how many suspect presets you have to go through, but you can also manually edit them with a simple text editor to remove the Graduated filter. If you right-click on the preset, you can show in Explorer/Finder. Open the file in Notepad/TextEdit and simply remove the GradientBasedCorrections section (this has many sub-fields, most of which start with "Local"). Save the file and move on to the next.

  • "Graduated Filter" tool in Aperture 3?

I have been using Lightroom 2.7 for the past time, but want to give Aperture 3 a chance as well. My favorite and often used feature in Lightroom is the "graduated filter" tool that allows me to reduce the exposure selectively and in a graduated manner in blown out skies and other areas that are overexposed.
In Aperture 3, I didn't find a similar tool. How do you deal with overexposed areas in your RAW images in Aperture 3? Is there such a thing like a "graduated filter" tool or are there other ways to selectively (and "quickly & dirtily") correct exposure in selected areas of your image?
Thanks for any hints - this is the killer feature in Lightroom that is crucial for me.

There are a few options which may provide you with satisfactory results. As mentioned you can Brush in effects to lighten or darken wherever you brush for example using the Dodge or Burn adjustments as appropriate. You may also get good results using the Exposure brick, specifically with the Recovery or *Black Point* sliders. Also the *Highlights & Shadows* brick may do the trick with the Advanced settings allowing you to only alter high tone, low tone or mid contrast ranges that you can define. Curves can also do magic in this area and may take some playing with but has the potential to be your new favourite ‘must have’ tool!

  • Can not see Graduated Filter Pin

    Hi,
I click on Graduated Filter I get the "plus" cursor but no lines or the pin to see what I am doing. The adjustments work but I can not see what I am doing only the effect is noticeable. Is there a toggle to make these visible? I had no problems with the last upgrade until yesterday.
    Thank you,

  • Graduated Filter "lines" not appearing?!

    Hi
Happily using latest Lr 3.3 but just noticed in the last few days that when I use the "graduated filter" function, the three lines do not appear onscreen, but after dragging the cursor across an image, and editing say exposure the image does alter. So the function is working but without the lines.
I've done all the obvious rebooting stuff, shut down other progs etc but no joy.
Anyone else had this, or know how to get the lines back?!
    PS:
any ideas how to report this bug to Adobe?
    thanks in advance
    Edward

    Ha! that fixes it
many thanks Jeff, I'll have to watch for this!

  • ITunes forgetting "Remember Last Position" setting

    Hi, first post
Have a problem with iTunes that's only started happening recently. I have put some audiobooks into iTunes, selected them all, right click, Get Info, and tick "Remember Last Position" and "Skip When Shuffling". Click OK, then if I immediately go back into "Get Info" and look again, they've gone back to their default position of not remembering, and not skipping when shuffling.
If I choose an individual file and try to do the same, those two options are greyed out and can't be changed....which is odd.
Am I doing something wrong, or does it sound like a bug?
    Thanks in advance

Those 2 settings are stored in a file named iTunes Library.itl, I'm pretty sure, instead of the actual content file tags.
I suspect your Win 7 permissions aren't allowing itunes to change it, somehow. Which is really weird, if you can still add music.
When things are grayed out in the Info screen, it usually comes down to windows permissions. Even if you are the only user and an admin account.
Make sure you have *full control* and ownership of that file. Here is quick lesson with screenshots on changing permissions, whether you want delete it, or in your case, modify it.
    http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/windows-7-how-to-delete-files-protected-by-tru stedinstaller/
Remember to restart itunes after changing any permissions, so it will read the new settings.
If it still doesn't let you make changes, try temporarily turning off UAC.

  • Graduated Filter doesn't show guide lines or dots

I'm used to using the three lines that the graduated filter shows to determine how extreme my adjustments will be. But about three months ago, this stopped showing up. I've scoured the Internet and checked the settings, to no avail. I've been guess-and-checking it since then, but it's difficult. Also, the little circles showing where I've applied graduated filters don't show up when I click on the filter tool. So, once I make a filter I cannot change or delete it independent of going back in my history.
Any help would be greatly apprecaited!

At the left bottom corner of the image there are two small triangles. Click on them and you'll get a fly-out menu. Select <Always> and the pin and the guide lines will show. ee screen shot

  • LR2 hang in develop module with graduated filter

I was in the Develop module and had just used the graduated filter to draw up from the bottom of the image. When I let go of the pen, the hourglass appeared and LR stopped responding. Many minutes later, I finally gave up and clicked on the window's close button. I got the usual Windows "app is not responding" dialog and told Windows to kill lightroom.
While LR was in the hung state, I started Procmon to see if anything interesting was visible there. While I saw no activity in lightroom.exe, I did see an endless series of operations in csrss.exe. These two operations were repeated endlessly:
    543751 10:32:26.2519678 PM csrss.exe 1372 RegOpenKey HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read
    543752 10:32:26.2519724 PM csrss.exe 1372 RegOpenKey HKU\.Default\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop NAME NOT FOUND Desired Access: Read
After killing lightroom, I no longer saw that pair of operations.
I have no idea whether this could be related to the lightroom hang or not, but thought I would pass it on in case it provided a clue.
Running Windows XP SP2 with all updates (except SP3) applied, nVidia 7600 GT, E6700 Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM (3.2 GB available), plentiful hard drive space free. Catalog is new with LR2 by re-importing all images; catalog was not converted from 1.4.1.

I'm having the same issue with graduated filter and adjustment brush and also one othe the predefined settings, I forgto which one, but it would lock up LR ervery time. My 30 day trial is now over and I think that I'm going to wait for LR2.x to be released :<(...

  • Lightroom 5 Graduated filter will not work from the centre out

    Hi
I am running Lightroom 5.6 but I think this has always been the same. The Graduated filter in the Basic Development module only seems to work from the edges inward (from top/bottom or sides). I would like to create a filter across the centre (for a lake) but I can figure how to do this. I guess the only way is to use the new Radial filter is that correct (I would prefer to use the Grad filter).

To create the equivalent of a Graduated filter with the effect starting at the center you can drag the radial filter endpoint to stretch it off-screen. Use the hand tool to push the radial filter off-screen and then drag the endpoint out further. You may need to do this a few times. You can also use two Graduated filters back to back, which gives you the ability to apply a centered Exposure correction and adjustments for Highlights and Shadows correction that are different on each side.
