Grain effect in SpeedGrade?

I am loving SpeedGrade.  It's truly what I've been looking for.  But I wish there was a grain effect.  Is there?  Or after rendering, should I try and add an adjustment layer in with the grain effect in Premiere Pro?  Thanks.

Joost,
Thanks for another informative answer ... though I wish it had been about an in-SpeedGrade grain-adder. In still, one of the reasons we love onONe's "Perfect Resize" is the wonderful grain tool it has ... when up-rezzing, a bit of that totally improves the final output, dimishing the noticabitlity of any noise and making the whole image appear a bit sharper and well, more "natural" like a film-print.
So, to do that, I really do need to go back to Premiere from Speedgrade ... sigh.

  • What Systems are the Pros Using for Premier, After Effects, and SpeedGrade?

I bought the full Creative Cloud in hopes of making a career for myself in audio/visual editing. The problem is, my system doesn't seem to be able to handle the software, particularly when changing back and forth between the three programs mentioned above. Beyond that, my first project failed to export properly. Moreover, all throughout its development the system lagged badly. And this is after having followed all the preferences recommendations available in the Adobe's tutorials and elsewhere on the Web.
    Here's my system:
SYX-P67A-C43: Intel Core i7 2600 (an 8-core unit) at 3.4GHz, with 8 Gigs of RAM (soon to be 16) with a GTX 550 NVidia Card, 1Gig of RAM.
As you can see, this is far in excess of what Adobe claims to be the minimum system requirements. It's obviously NOT.
What systems are the Pros using (like the guys in the tutorials) for Premier, After Effects, and SpeedGrade? Give me the exact machines with all the specs so I can price one up.

...although a little " old" now.....the fundamentals of your machine are still OK to get started IF you : 1. INCREASE your system memory to the full 32 GB....should make a BIG difference in performance.....8 GB is NOT enough, it will HINDER performance. 2. OVERCLOCK your CPU !!!.....many owners of your CPU have been safely running at 4.5 Ghz or HIGHER...some at 4.8 Ghz !!! This OC will make a DRAMATIC improvement  as  CPU speed is a huge factor in performance. 3. Improve your video card to a new NVidia 970 with 4 GB of video memory. 4. Check and MAKE SURE the power supply in your machine is ADEQUATE to handle everything, esp. if you overclock the CPU....generally 850 to 1,000 watts of a quality make is good. 5. Use a fast storage system...that means a SATA III SSD as your "C" drive, ( boot drive), being a Crucial M550 series,( or, M600 series), OR, a Samsung 850 Pro series SSD, ( more expensive). Other SSDs are NOT recommended, only these two makes are recommended for technical reasons. On this "C" drive, you should have Operating system, Programs, and Windows page file ONLY !! Your "D" drive can be ANOTHER single SSD to be used as a "cache drive" for all the previews, media cache, and cache files that Premier Pro creates PLUS, it can ALSO serve as the "Global Performance cache" used in After Effects. All your media and project files can go on your "E" drive. HERE you would have LIMITED OPTIONS because your motherboard only has TWO SATA III ports, ( which would already be used b the "C" and "D" SSDs). You NOW have only 4 SATA II ports left ......you COULD RAID 0 four 1 TB HDDs off these ports and have a 4TB backup drive connected to one of your TWO USB 3 external ports.....any DVD or Blue-ray can ALSO go on an external port.
However, if you are into spending REAL MONEY !!!.....Go Haswell E and X99 all the way !!...THAT will give you great performance !!

  • What is your Premiere, After Effects and SpeedGrade Workflow?

    Hi Everyone,
I am an experienced editor who's switched to Adobe's CC barely a year ago. At the moment I'm in the midst of finishing up a corporate project and trying to think of the best workflow between Premiere, After Effects and SpeedGrade. I'm loving the Dynamic Link workflows, but at the some time I'm facing some obstacles, and am wondering how you guys do your work.
Let's say I finished the edit of the project and send the project via Dynamic Link to SG. I finish the grade and then decide to use the Dynamic Link to AE to add some titles with shapes and effects such as Fast Blur. This is where I'm facing the first problem. When I choose a clip to be 'Replaced with an AE Composition', the color correction is gone, and now if I grade in SG, it will naturally grade the titles I added. So, it seems as though my color grade is a waste of time and I have to do it the old school way of first absolutley completing the color grade, exporting, re-importing and then heading for titles and effects. That makes you lose quite a bit of "dynamics" in your work (and time aka money), if my clients want changes for example.
For simple animations with text, and shapes, this is not a big issue since you could easily add the titles to a second Video track. But when you use After Effects which changes the acutal image of a clip by adding effects, things don't work out too easily. But in any case, these might just be the limitations to the relativley new Dynamic Link workflow.
In my specific example, how would you go about it? What is your workflow? Maybe I'm missing out on some tips & tricks.
Be happy to hear from you guys and maybe get some expert knowledge.
    Best,
    fabian

    Hey there,
I'm also looking for a solid workflow solution since adopting (and actually really liking) Speedgrade.  So below is what I'm going to try which should work and will follow this thread to see if any other workflows pop up.  Also typing this out here to help me with plan of attack
Project Specs - 3 minute corporate video with text animation, interviews, broll, and computer screen replacement
    Edit in Premiere
Dynamic link to SpeedGrade for color correction
Open back up in Premiere, confirm all color corrections are applied, and then duplicate sequence to an AE Prep extension
In AE prep sequence, take all AE "base" shots (for computer screen composite or anything needing stabilization) up onto their own track (i.e. V5 & V6)
Add 10 frame handles to in & out, checkerboard clips as needed
Delete all other remaining content but keep blank spaces / no ripple deletes
Export this out to a ProRes4444 QT movie
Import ProRes4444 QT movie back into premiere, add over existing video layers in AE Prep extension sequence, and then there time out the screen shot replacement content to cover effect duration
Dynamic link AE Prep Premiere Pro sequence to AE
    Do the AE work
    Dynamic link back to Premiere
    DoneHopefully
This was my similar work around back in the day before I had Automatic Duck in FCP to AE
Hope this helps anyone else - if there are any glaring "why would you do all that" points - please let me know   I'll also report back if there are any horrible roadblocks throughout the process.

  • Is it possible to scale an object with a grain effect?

Is it possible to scale an object with a grain effect?
It seems that checking "scale strokes and effects" doesn't work for grain at all. Scaling up image makes grain much more delicate and smooth. Any ideas?

    Jacob,
Thanks! That worked as I wanted to.
    Your answer is most appreciated.

  • Getting a grain effect in Black and white digital images

How do I achieve a grain effect on my digital black and white images.
Could you send me tips to [email protected]??

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
1 - Please do not use your e-mail address in these forums - it will attract SPAM to you and SPAMMERS to the forum - and the host probably will edit it out
2 - re B&W - not that iPhoto will only wrk with RGB photos so even if they are B&W they need the sRGB profile
3 - to do sophisticated editing (like adding effects - i.e. grain) you need a third party editor - like PhotoShop Elements - iPhoto is a great but pretty much consumer level photo management system

  • After Effects and Speedgrade

Related to this, do we know if the October any-day-now updates to Premiere Pro and Speedgrade will allow timelines that include/embed dynamically-linked AE clips to be easily moved in and out of Speedgrade from Premiere Pro? Or will it be a better idea to render out these AE clips and drop them into the timeline directly if we want to roundtrip to Sppedgrade?

All of the changes for After Effects are listed here:
    http://adobe.ly/AE_12dot1_details
There are no changes regarding After Effects integration with SpeedGrade.

  • Fx effect gallery grain troubles

    Hi,
I want to aply a grain effect to a gradient on a shape. Let's say i create a rectangle with round corners , then i apply a linear
gradient, as soon as i apply the grain effect , those soft round corners are now raster ! I'm lost
    Thanks for your help

Drag the "Grain" item into the "Fill" item. That way the grain will only effect the fill. It will help a little bit. But realize those are raster effects and rounded areas are prone to typical raster problems like stair steps.
A better method maybe to create a standard recrangle with the gradient and grain, then apply a rounded corner clipping mask on top of it.

  • Premiere, After Effects, SpeedGrade Not Available

I do not have premiere, after effects, or speedgrade as an available option for downloading.  My Adobe Application Manager only displays 13 available downloads.

    Hi,
If you are using 32-bit machine then it will not be available.
These apps are avaialble for 64 bit machines only.

  • 5.1 surround sound and removing grain

currently, i'm trying to remove video grain from adobe premiere pro cs4 without paying for plugins. i'm trying to use the remove grain effect found in after effects and then dynamically link it to premiere pro for exporting. However, on after effects, it seems to only export my video as stereo instead on 5.1 surround sound, and the video is a 5.1 surround sound. is there a way i can fix this? is there a way i can use the after effects plugin from within premiere pro? or is there another free alternative solution to remove grain in premiere pro.

Why bother with exporting the sound in the first place? Since you will replace the video in Premiere anyway with the original soundtrack available, what's the point? AE does not support anything beyond stereo, with or without plugins. I'm sure you can find a ton of plugins for Premiere dealing with noise/ grain removal, but if they are really good, they're certainly not free...

  • Illustrator CC 2014: Effect-Gallery and Filters not working. "Process was interrupted/stopped."

When I try to apply a grain effect on a gradient-filled object, Illustrator CC 2014 for Mac OS.X  tells me that "The Process was interrupted/stopped." What do I do and can I fix that issue by installing plug-ins? Also the whole "effect-gallery" isn't working neither. Please help me I am devastated, I am in urgent need of some grain-effects and this error is driving me insane!
    Thanks for help!

    System: OS.X Yosemite
Kind of artwork: Vektor Rectangle, I want to make some freecards and the background should be filled with a grain-gradient.
hardware specs: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)
Processor: 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5
                              Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
Other installed programms are PS and ID, both CS6 and CC. As far as I'm concerned there are not "third party plugins". (Sorry for my ignorance, I'm a complete newbie.)
There is a 393 GB storage available yet.
I already uninstalled and reinstalled it, then it was in english and the effect-gallery worked perfectly. Then i reinstalled it again because I needed it in german, afterwards there were the same troubles as at the beginning.
Sincerely, I don't know how I should reset the preferences.
Thank you for answering that soon!

  • Compound Clip with Effects Storyline Issue

I've made a compound of my edit so I can add a film grain effect across the whole cut. (I find this much easier if need to change rather than on individual clips). But after adding the grain, I'm getting a weird overlay on the transitions from black—see attached image. I swear I've done this before without issue. If I put the effect onto each clip (inside the compound), I don't get the "buzz." It's a little hard to see, but if you look in the blacks, you'll see the grain noise. Any ideas?
Here's the line. Grain is added to the compound clip.

OK - I think I fixed it - I had a title connected to the compound clip that for some reason seemed to interfere, but after taking it away and then back, it's fixed now.

  • Can't find NOISE REDUCTION EFFECT in PPRO CS5

    Hey guys!
I am just digging through my CS5 PPRO for last hour or so - an simply can't seem to find any kind of NOISE REDUCTION EFFECT...
NOISE and GRAIN effect folder is made only of NOISE PRODUCING effects...
Is it possible that there isn't one in there??? I tried numerous other effects, thinking maybe there be some de-noiser in them, but nothing (only DE-NOISER effect is AUDIO one)...
I simply shot footage with high ISO and wanna try to remove some noise from it.... Sounds like preaty basic effect, that I remember was present even in programs like VIRTUAL DUB!!!!
Can you give me any hint on this one???
    THnx
    V.

Thnx for updating me with info for 3rd party noise removers....
But I remember that earlier PREMIERES had some noise remover....
But trust me, I've been trying them for last few hours - these NOISE related EFFECTS in PPRO CS5 v.503 - are all just noise adding effects!!! None of them (at least with word NOISE in their name don't reduce it!!!!)
    Oh, please prove me wrong!:)

  • Does AE have 'dirty' effects

Does AE have effects that can make footage look like it's dirty, old? As if the footage was shot decades ago and had degraded over time? Also, are there effects that could make the footage look dirty, as if the footage was shot in a dirty (eg: desert) environment?
Visual example of what I'm trying to capture:
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=soH8LQdsiac

After Effects has a lot of effects that you can use together to create dirty and "distressed" looks. A good starting point is to use some of the
Noise & Grain effects and blend the noise layers with your original footage.
I looked at the sample that you linked to, and it seems that much of their "desert" look comes from color correction with something like the
    Tritone effect.
A lot of the "old" look (the flickering) seems to come from animating (wiggling) the
    Exposure effect.
There's also a fluctuating vignette that is probably just an elliptical mask with animated Scale and a high Mask Feather amount.
There are also a lot of free and commercial plug-ins and animation presets for doing this sort of thing.

  • Video Effect

Hey, I was wondering how can i get this film effect as in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UzRGigXIQJw#! It starts at 7 secs and repeats itself throughout the entire video. its the film grain or leader, not sure what its call, overlaying the video. Can I create this effect on my own on premier or do I have to download it somewhere.

    Some ideas for you:
If you don't have money you can look around at archive.org for old films and look for stuff. For example, this clip: http://ia600806.us.archive.org/0/items/8mmFilmRoll/62492966.mov
Some YouTube users have made their own film clutter and offer it for free use. Be careful and don't use copyrighted materials. Here's an example: http://youtu.be/teV2eM3SjQM
You could rent a film projector, find some 16mm films on ebay and then just shoot countown leaders, light leaks, etc. with your video camera.
You can simulate film clutter by creating and altering images in Photoshop, and then animating them in After Effects.
You can create different kinds of elements instead created in After Effects, like noise or grain effects. Check out this page in Help. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a9d3c597-7b3a a.html#WSAE104790-DF54-4d29-84BC-91E9F2617773a

  • Unwanted Bevel Effect?

When adding a grain pattern effect to an object in Illustrator CS6 I get an odd bevel that surrounds the object. There is nothing in the Appearance window to suggest that there should be a bevel and I didn't add it myself.
Is there some setting I am missing or an easy way to remove the effect? For now I am masking the object with a slightly smaller object but it's starting to drastically increase the size of my file.

Nope, I'm still getting the bevel effect in there somehow.
It just seems odd that Illiustrator would add that in for apparently no reason.
And here's a shot of the Effect window:
Also, it only seems to happen to the Horizontal and Vertical Grain effects.
