Grainy camera image on FaceTime with MacBook air after mountain lion upgrade

Extremely grainy image from built in MacBook air camera on Face time and Pgot booth after upgrade to Mountain Lion. Any one else??

When you do  > Software update...  ,  does it say you need them?  If it doesn't, you don't.  Some updates were firmware that applied regardless of OS.  Others like the firmware that enabled Power Nap appear after ML upgrade.  In either case I'd believe what Software update says and not try to download updates from the website except to address specific issues.

  • Strange behavior of MacBook Air after Mountain Lion addition

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the monitor of my MacBook Air has been acting strangely. At times I lose the edges of the monitor in Finder as well as in programs. Has anyone else had this experience? Any suggestions?

    Morning Assignment,
If you suspect an issue with the MacBook Air hardware, you can use the Apple Hardware Test application to help determine if there's an issue with one of the computer's components.

  • ICal sync with gcal broken after Mountain Lion upgrade

Is anyone else seeing that iCal events created in iCal no longer sync into GCal after the Mountain Lion upgrade?
    I'm running OSX 10.8 and iCal 6.
I have a google calendar account configured in iCal, and iCal has no problems reading/sync'ing events that are created directly in Google Calendar. It also has no problems seeing free/busy information of people in my Google Calendar account when I create a new event in iCal. However, when I create an event in iCal, the event never ends up in Google Calendar.
This problem didn't used to exist before I upgraded to Mountain Lion. I haven't changed anything in the settings since my upgrade.
The problem doesn't exist in my iPhone, which is still working properly.
    Thanks,
    Bob

The problem seems to be in the Delegates. I followed the instructions in the above, setting up google calendars as CalDAV and using the calendar ID. But tedious but at least its working until apple get their act together and fix it!

  • FaceTime won't open since Mountain Lion Upgrade

Ever since upgrading my retina macbook pro to Mountain Lion, my FaceTime App won't open. The camera works just fine in PhotoBooth, so I don't think that's the issue. The application itself just won't open. No errors or anything come up. When I right click the icon in the dock, it just says "Application Not Responding".
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

  • Gmail issues on macbook after mountain lion upgrade

i recently upgraded my macbook pro to mountain lion, since then i have been having issues with gmail.
i have 5 email addresses in mail, some of them functioned whilst others did not.
i have converted all of the email addresses to imap rather than pop, and this worked yesterday, and messed about with the port numbers using lots of different ones from the original 993, etc. eventually using the 993 for it to work.
today, it isn't working.  the ipad i have works fine as does the phone.
i have been reading that there is some kind of issue, but does anyone know the definitive solution?
    many thanks
    cg

the macbook works in the apple shop, my sisters, but not at home.  i have sky broadband - any suggestions?

I just bought Macbook Air 11 inch, mid 2013 model.
after first setup, and restoring from another time machine, I discovered that the battery is poorly performing, so decided to install fresh mountain lion. using my previously prepared USB drive failed. so tried to download the mountain lion all over again from the store, where it said, mountain lion is not compatible.

I want to reset my mac and install a fresh copy of mountain lion, Pleae help,

The build of Mountain Lion (10.8.4) on your 2013 MBA is newer than what is currently available from the App Store. That accounts for the App Store blocking you. This will likely be resolved with the introduction of 10.8.5.
True, but even so, there is no need to re-purchase and download from the App Store (not to say you're implying this, but rather just for informational purposes). When OS X 10.8.5 is released, the Software Update service will be the way to install the update, and not the retail Mac App Store.
Hopefully, if mawy did re-purchase Mountain Lion, when Mavericks comes out then Apple will offer it to mawy for free (it's slated to be out soon).

  • Wifi Problems [Macbook air 2012 Mountain Lion]

I have a new (barely 2 weeks old) Macbook Air fresh from Shanghai.  It is running the most current OSX 10.8.2 with the newest update.  All apps are up to date.  It has 8gb ram and a core i7 processor.
The wifi is extremely slow (I am seeing rates from a couple kb to maybe 100kb/s).  The wifi icon in the upper bar displays full strength for my home wifi (WPA2 secured running N-band).  However, if I go more than a 10 feet from the router the signal appears to drop off dramatically (speeds become lethargic, nearly 0kb/s) although the icon still displays full strenth.  The only way I can get half-decent speeds is by physically sitting in my closet with the router.  Clearly, this is not ideal and hopefully is not the norm for a brand new system like this that is meant to be an ultraportable.
Another symptom I have noted is that when the macbook is connected to the network, the speed of all other wifi-connected devices also drops off - though not as dramatically.
The wifi connection problem appears to be not just with my home network as it is also unbearable with any wifi network I've tried EXCEPT the apple store (so of course the apple genius wasn't convinced).
I have tried many things to fix this including:
    bluetooth is turned off
    no other devices are connected
    reset router
reset wifi setting on computer and turn on/off
    reseting NVRAM
changing network (I have tried 2 home networks, starbucks, a portable hotspot, and my school's wifi)
So far, as I mentioned before, the only way to get above 20 kb/s is to sit inside my closet.  This network works perfectly with 3+ other computers and any cell phones/printers/etc that have been hooked up to it, many of which are many rooms/walls away.  Also, even sitting next to the router, speeds are still 10x slower than other devices.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

         O
I had the excact same issue, I have now restored to OSX 10.8.1 rather than update to 10.8.2? downside is I cannot use iPhoto because it requires 10.8.2 to install
Strange thing is when i updated to 10.8.2 and logged in as a guest user i had no internet problems, but as soon as I switched back to my account login the wifi issues came back?
I even spent 2 hours on the phone to my internet service provider thinking it was my router giving up.
It was only through luck that i picked up on the fact that it didnt cause issues before i updated, but only after the update did the issue raise its head.
Im a loyal apple user,  I also sell apple products through a reseller bar inside the store I work, but im starting to loose faith.
Lets hope this is a bigger issue than just a handful of users, that way apple may get a fix out for this

  • Mail slow on brand new Macbook Air w/ Mountain Lion

    Hi all,
I just bought a MacBook Air last month with OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion. But the Mail application is annoyingly slow.
I import form a gmail account. But shouldn't be a problem in itself, should it?
I've seen other discussions, but they all involve problems after upgrading to Moutain Lion. I just got it out of the box and already it's slow.
    Anyone?
    Thanks a lot!

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

  • Macbook air batter life affected after mountain lion upgrade

after upgrading my computer with mountain lion there has been a big drop in battery life. I have a 2011 macbook air 13 inch. At least a 40% reduction in battery life. No large use of cpu as per activity monitor.

Add me to the list of macbook air users whose battery life is now about 60% what it was prior to the 'upgrade'.  My 2011 air also runs much hotter.
    Apple, please fix!!!

  • Macbook Air and Mountain Lion

    Hi All
Have Macbook Air late 2010. Snowleopard 10.6.8. On this laptop I have a number of programmes including Microsoft Office 2008 student version, Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 4 .  If I upgrade to Mountain Lion will I loose these progammes.  Am concerned about this that is why I am asking before making upgrade.  Cheers.
    William McPhillips

No, you won't lose them, but be sure to make a backup of the computer before upgrading. Before you click on the Install button or before you even purchase Mountain Lion you should do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Before upgrading be sure your applications will run in Mountain Lion. Any applications requiring Rosetta will not work.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements

  • Macbook air 2011 a lot warmer after mountain lion upgrade

    Hi,
Does anyone have the same experience, my macbook is a lot warmer after I upgraded to ML several days ago. Temperatures are a lot higher and it's uncomfortable on my lap even though I'm only browsing the web and have no other major processes running in the background. Even setting the fans higher with smc fancontrol does not help (of cours if I crank them up it will, but I got the MBA because it's quiet and cool to use on my lap, or used to be)
    I'm really considering downgrading again.

I have both a 2009 MBP and a mid 2011 MBA with Mountain Lion installed. That fans aren't running any sooner, faster, or more often than with Lion. Maybe I'm lucky . What I suggest you do first is restart the computer and immediately launch the Activity Monitor and switch it to the CPU panel.
In the top window there's a list of every process running and the 4th column over is CPU. If you click on the word CPU you can sort the the processes in order by CPU usage - click until it sorts from highest to lowest. Now at a glance you can see which processes are taxing the CPU the most and by how much.
Right now I have Safari, Mail and quite a few other applications running and my highest usage is Safari with it ranging from 4% to 10% CPU usage. The processes in the background are all considerably less except for Mail every 5 minutes when it checks for new mail. That's about the same numbers I saw in Lion, though Safari is a bit more CPU and RAM hungry in ML.
For your computer to be running hotter it is using the CPU more (or the fans less). So the first step is to see if you have any processes (programs) really using the CPU at a rate that seems abnormally high. If nothing seems out of the ordinary, there are a couple programs that let you adjust the fan settings so they come on sooner and/or run faster.

  • IPhone 4S not wifi syncing with Macbook Pro (2010, Mountain Lion)

Subject pretty much says it all: I can't get my iphone 4S to wifi sync with my Macbook Pro (2010, running Mountain Lion).  All relevant pieces have been updated (latest OS on laptop and device, latest iTunes, etc.).  wifi sync did work at some point but now simply won't; the device does not show up in iTunes, and trying to manually start a sync from the device just leave it looking for my laptop forever.
A little Google digging did make reference to trying to kill "AppleMobileDeviceHelper" and restarting iTunes.  I have noticed that AppleMobileDeviceHelper is not running...should it be?  I've even tried manually starting it and it doesn't seem to work.  I dug through Console looking for references to it in logs and didn't find anything.
    Any suggestions/ideas appreciated.
    Thanks.
