Grainy Output When Outputting h.264 into QuickTime File in Premiere Elements 12

I have a video project that I need to output into a QuickTime file. I would like to use the h.254 codec in the file, because that would make it the most versatile for all of the places I will be using the video. However, when I use Share > Computer > QuickTime > Advanced... and use these settings:
Codec: H.264
Quality: 100%
Frame Size: 1080x1920
Frame Rate: 29.9 fps
Field Order: None (Progressive)
No bitrate limit
Audio Codec: AAC
Sample Rate: 48000 khz
Bit depth: 16-bit
I wind up with a terribly grainy and muted-color video. I have used these same settings in Share > Computer > AVCHD and end up with a great video. Is there anything I can do to output the nice quality into .mov?

Importing video from Canon DSLR into time line in Premiere elements 10

When I import video from the media files in premiere elements 10 on to the Time line,I get a message saying that the video is not a suitable format and do I want to change it to a suitable format or leave it as it is.If I go to change it then the video does not display on the editing monitor. How do I get round this?

You're right it should work .... but in practice not always.
You have the latest and greatest mac laptop but your camcorder is frankly a bit dated. So my suggestion is to give it the signal that it wants.

along with a standard 6 pin to 4 pin FW 400 cable. It might be choking on the faster FW 800. This is just a guess though.

thank you for your response, i appreciate it. there's definitely nothing wrong with the mouse or trackpad, both work fine in every other application....i can also easily change size dimensions in other programs on my computer so it doesn't seem to be that either. it seems like there is something weird going on in the way that pse and my mac are interacting with each other, just wish i knew what it was. thank you again, wish me luck!

Problem in outputting a string into a file

Hi guys,
I tried to output a string to a file. The string is 'Size : 30u201D X 13 ½u201D X17 ¾u201D(H)'.
However, with this code :
l_file = '/erp/reports/testgk.txt'.
l_str = 'Size : 30u201D X 13 ½u201D X17 ¾u201D(H)'.
OPEN DATASET l_file FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT.
TRANSFER l_str TO l_file.
It returned me a weird string: 'Size : 30M-bM-@M-] X 13 M-BM-=M-bM-@M-] X17 M-BM->M-bM-@M-](H)'
Would you please let me know how to solve this problem?

Looks like the "usual" ENCODING problem

Files downloaded turn into QuickTime files and not iTune Files!

Hi folks,
I am downloading some songs from mp3search.ru (very very cheap mp3 site) and they are downloaded as iTune files (which is what I require), however, when they download fully they become Quicktime files!
I now have to change them individually to be opened with iTunes but they remain QT files!!
How do I stop QuickTime from being the default and dictating itself as the main MP3 player?!

well, today I browsed iTunes, happened to find something I liked and thought I'd give it a go..
After checking this bit:

"Incompatible format" when importing H.264 NTSC .mov file

DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. G5. OS X 10.4.11.
Created a new SD DVD project, NTSC. Tried to import a .mov file: H.264, AAC movie file: H.264 Decoder, 320 x 240, Millions, AAC, Stereo (L R), 32.000 kHz. FPS: 15.
Message: "Incompatible format". Exported to PCM audio, no dice. Exported to DV/DVCPRO and PCM audio, imported OK. Any suggestions? Thanks.

DVDSP only accepts a fairly narrow range of file types when it comes to importing.
For video, that means files that are in editing codecs (like DV/DVCPro), if you want DVDSP's internal encoder to process them. Otherwise, if you want to encode elsewhere, you must present it with either an MPEG-2 file (usually preferable) or an MPEG-1 file. Since your source file is smaller-than-the-norm frame size, MPEG-1 would have worked for you. Though DVDSP, only accepts 23.98 or 29.97 frame rates in NTSC land. (of course, for PAL projects, 25 fps is cool)
In terms of audio, .aiff or .ac3 are acceptable.

At face value, the H.264.mov file should import into your Premiere Elements 11. By the way, on what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
The key initial question is "Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 11?" That is a must do.
As a double check, please go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime and assure that you see presets included for that choice. If not, sure thing, QuickTime issue. Just a reminder if you have not been there before - you need to scroll down the list of Publish+Share/Computer/ choices to reach QuickTime toward the bottom of the list. See thin scroll bar to the right of the list.

Error when adding .MOV file to Premiere Elements 10

Im trying to add videos taken on my ipad to a new project in Premier Elements 10, but I get this error: Add Media Failure = The importer reported a generic error.
I've read that .mov is just some sort of container and I might need to download a codec of some sort. Has anybody already solved this problem and can just dumb it down for me? Im new to all this - its just a hobby, so Im not very technical.

If you open the MOV in Media Info or G Spot, what does it show as its resolution, frame rate and codec?

As you've said, the MOV suffix itself doesn't tell you much. Inside that package could be any of hundreds of possible codecs, most of which won't digest well in Premiere Elements.
Meantime, are you on a Mac or PC? What operating system are you using? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime on your machine, per the program's requirements?

Trouble when formating finished movie into quicktime!!!NEED HELP!!!

Okay this is urgent! I am done with my video project but when I click "Share" and choose "Quicktime" and then select "Full Quality" and it compresses pretty quickly my movie is only about 3 min. long. When I go to play the Quicktime video of my project about halfway through the video the video playing halts like a pause, but I still hear the audio playing. What is wrong???!!!???? I need help fast!!!

Does your iMovie play ok within iMovie? How long is your movie before you try to export it to QuickTime?
Try closing iMovie and deleting its preference file: YourUserName=>Library->Preferences->com.apple.imovieplist.
Trash this plist file. Reopen iMovie. Try to 'share' it as quicktime movie again. Depending on how long it is, this may take a while.
If this does not help, post back.

Output folder contents into text file

Hello, everyone.
I am new to automator, and I'd like to learn how to use it. Recently, someone asked me if there was a way that they could select a folder and somehow dump the filenames of all items in that folder (non-recursively) to a text file. It seems to me that this is the sort of thing that Automator would be able to do. Can anyone give me some tips on how I might go about doing this?
I also figured this might be possible with a custom bash command. I am more experienced with bash and Unix command line, so if there is a better option there, please let me know. I just figured I would check here first.

That does work, but the only problem is that the folder who's contents are being exported will be different every time. (I see now that I didn't specify that in my first post). Ideally, he would either be given an option to select a folder to read, or he would just be able to drag and drop the folder onto an application (or into terminal) and have it perform this task.

Output video to USB flash drive using Premiere Elements 7?

Is it possible to output a finished project to a USB-connected flash drive instead of burning it to a DVD? I want to be able to plug the flash drive into another computer and have the video play in the absence of Premiere.

Ozpeter and Steve, thanks for the timely reply. My problem is I didn't think the issue through enough to fully ask the question. I thought perhaps DVD players had auxillary USB inputs, but checked and mine at least don't. I guess that leaves me with a Windows Media file that would play on laptops or desktops, but then maybe a DVD file would work better.
I have a nearly 4GB DVD comprised of family picture slideshows sandwiching a series of video clips that works just fine on my computers, TV, portable DVD player and player/projector. I'd love to be able to carry that file around on, say, a Kingston Data Traveler to show others.
As I understand it, I need to again render this show, saving it to my hard drive, and then copy that output to my portable USB device.

When i click on a photo file in windows , elements opens, then i have to go back into windows and click again to open file , earlier version opens program an file how can i get elements 12 to do the same?

The way I got around the situation was to write a custom folder action and attach it to my Downloads folder. The good thing about this is that it works irrespective of the browser du jour I'm using.
This way you can define any filetype you're interested in to auto-open when a file is created in the Downloads folder (or any other folder of your choosing).
It's not that tricky to add. I think I posted the code here many moons ago so I'll try and track it down...
