Grainy Photos When Zoomed

I transferred some photos to my iPod Touch. They look great fullscreen, but when I zoom into them they look very grainy as if they have been recompressed. Is this what's supposed to happen? What's the point of being able to zoom into a photo, if all the detail of clarity of the original photo is lost via syncing with iTunes?

yeah you would think that they would at least support a resolution up to whatever the maximum zoom is on the ipod. I don't know if that sentence even makes sense but you probably get what I mean.

What is a hard boot and will it fix my grainy photos when I take flash photographs with my iPhone 5 in the deep dark?
Someone said a hard boot fixed the problem above .....when I go outside in the dark and take a flash photograph the photograph is all grainy and dark something is wrong is a hard boot where you hold the power and the home button down the same time is that safe will it fix the problem is it a hardware or software issue please help i've had my phone for over year people at the Apple store and other people told me it will be fixed in a software update but now it's getting serious I hope they'll replace my phone if it's a hardware issue something is wrong and I am angry please help if you can

The hard boot that I'm referring to in my case is relating to the iPhone not a Mac… five Years ago with my first iPhone three GS I believe it was someone at the Apple store told me have you tried a hard boot hard boot with my iPhone is where you hold the power button and the home button down at the same time for like 10 seconds or whatever and it shuts the phone off or reboots the phone
let's say you have the phone on and you do that procedure that's what they referred to as a hard boot when it comes to the iPhone and I wanted to know if it was safe for the iPhone five to do a hard boot I did it with my 3GS with no problems
I'm just trying to be able to take a photograph of something in the deep dark from 10 to 15 feet away and have it not look grainy and dark some have said and other discussions that it was a hardware problem and they have their phones replaced other said it was a software problem but you're saying and everyone else saying it's just because the flash and the sensor is too small

  • IPhoto corrupts the view of my Nikon D800 photos when zooming or switching to edit mode

I am viewing RAW files from a Nikon D800.  Initially the files show correctly but after a while the views starts corrupting when I zoom in and sometimes when I enter the edit mode.  The files themselves are ok, it is just the preview that corrupts.
Once this has happened the only way to restore normality is to reboot the iMac.  Closing and reopening iPhoto does not fix it.
    I am using iPhoto 9.5.1 on OSX 10.9.4 (iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2010).
I have a Nikon D7000 as well and editing these photos I have no problems.  Perhaps it is the larger file size...?
    Example of the corruption attached.

That could be an issue with the graphics card.
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
If it is, switch to another user account and repeat the test there.

  • Grainy photos in DVD

I have a NikonD90 for still photos and a Cannon HD53X for a camcorder.  When I use Adobe Premiere Elements 11 to create a DVD of the combined stills and videos I often (not every time) get grainy photos when I play the DVD on my TV.  I use the same settings to create the DVD.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

This FAQ explains the difference between still photo and video resolution.

  • All photos suddenly look grainy UNTIL I zoom in [Photoshop CC]

A couple of days ago, all the sudden, every picture I bring up in Photoshop CC looks very grainy until I zoom in a couple of times. When I bring it up in Bridge, it looks fine, even after I edit it in PS. A few days ago I had been working on photos from the same photo session and they didn't do it. Now when I bring up one of those photos from several days ago they also look grainy, too - but only when I view them full size in Photoshop CC. When I zoom it, they look normal, but I can't edit them zoomed in. I restarted the computer but that didn't help.Do I need to change a setting in Photoshop? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help. ~Valerie

Hi, I am having exactly the same problem.  Very frustrating as I have deadlines to meet.  Graphics that I am placing into a PSD were designed by graphic designers, and have used them before, but suddenly they are very grainy.  I have looked at the suggested solution but Performance is set at 4. I've attached a picture should like as well as what the PSD file looks as a screen shot. Hope that someone can help.  Many thanks.

    No.
I find it extremely frustrating that Apple does not care for such an obvious bug affecting one of the basic funcionalities of AirPlay. Unless, of course, if there's something I don't know - but I've done some research and it seems that plenty of people have same issue and no solution is settled.

  • When zooming in on a photo, I cannot save or print the enlarged photo.

When zooming in on a photo, I cannot save or print that image.  It reverts back to original.

There is no way to "zoom" a photo other than for viewing - you can crop it and then thecropped image is saved when you click done and you can print it

  • Is there a fix for grainy photos in Illustrator?

I don't have Photoshop so I'm left to try and solve this problem with Illustrator. Are there any tricks with this software to help disguise grainy photos? They seem to have gotten worse once I imported them into AI and even worse after that once I reduce their size. I found that adding a crosshatch filter effect actually doesnt do a bad job, but does anyone know of any better tricks for this? Or is it only Photoshop that does the job...

You cannot edit pixel images in Illustrator.
That's rather overstated. You can apply Photoshop Effects in Illustrator, rasterize ojects, and create raster-based effects; all of which is, in fact, editing pixel images in Illustrator.
Are there any tricks with this software to help disguise grainy photos?
Generally speaking, reducing grain is  a matter of blurring (averaging color values). Smart Blur is one of the Photoshop filters installed with Illustrator. Disguising grain would be a matter of special effects, and there are dozens of Photoshop filters included with Illustrator for that. You've already tried one: Crosshatch. But beyond just telling you to try them, no one can advise you without seeing the image.
They seem to have gotten worse once I imported them into AI and even worse after that once I reduce their size.
Simply importing a raster image into Illustrator does not degrade it. The on-screen display of the image is poorer than in a proper image editing program when not zoomed/scaled to 1:1. But that doesn't reflect the actual quality of the image. And that's partly why the various raster filter dialogs provide their own previews.
Or is it only Photoshop that does the job...
If you're going to do much at all with raster images, you need at least a basic raster imaging program. Illustrator can't even properly crop a raster image. But Photoshop is certainly not the only program that "does the job." Corel PhotoPaint is a quite capable alternative to Photoshop, and Corel Graphics Studio (Draw, PhotoPaint, more) can be had as a competitive side-grade for much less than Adobe's bundles. Xara Designer Pro is a very versatile illustration program that can do much more image editing than Illustrator, and can be had for significantly less than the price of Illustrator alone. And as someone has already pointed out, there are even open-source image editors that you can download for free.

  • Edited photos shown zoomed in iPhoto 11

Using iPhoto 11, when I edit a photo (using Photoshop as the designated external editor), then save the photo back in iPhoto, the photo displays zoomed way in on iPhoto...even though the iPhoto zoom slider is set all the way out. If you mess with the slider, the photo will display normally for a second, but then jump back to zoomed in mode when you release the slider.
So the edited photo shows like this in iPhoto:
When the actual image looks like this (when holding down the slider):

I noticed the issue while "cleaning up" my photo library this morning... the problem photos were all in an event from December 2011. I'm always running the latest available OS (10.9.1) & iPhoto (9.5.1) version, but can't recall what versions that would have been in Decemebr 2011 when imported & editted the photos. Both the OS & iPhoto have been updated since then. I have seen this occur intermitetdly over the years- as earlier poster showed, the image seems to "snap" to a zoomed in view of the Bottom Left corner (only thumbnail displays correct). The camera that was used had been a Canon Powershot SD800 iS... editting (appeared to be red-eye fix on them) would have been done using iPhoto or Photoshop Elements... of course, several (=hundreds) of photos around this time would have been imported/editted in the same manner, yet problems usually occur within a particular event.
Sorry, not much help I know.  Just trying to share what I can in the event that others are having more widespread issues, and this helps.

When I print pictures from my IMAC to my Hp C8180 they are grainy, even when I select the Best Quality- Why can't I get good quality printing from Imac ?  Use the same printer with a PC and printed the same picture files-  they are printed with high quality-  Why can't the IMAC do the same?

Does this involve iPhoto for the Mac?
How exactly are you printing these photos?

  • IPad 2 grainy photos

Finally I can share something!  The grainy photos are a result of noise which can be reduced by a terrific app called Noise Master for $2.99:  I purchased this today and could not be more pleased.  At last, my photos are free of that grainy appearance.

I was going to use Photoshop Express - but when I downloaded the free version, it only would show the picture without noise but indicated to get this result, you would have to upgrade to the full version.  Since I already had three photo enhancement apps, which of course, did not have noise reduction, I just purchased an app for that specific need.  This app is very easy to apply - just move the slider.
I used to make graphics with Paintshop Pro and loved it.  But I share our family computer now with my husband and didn't want to monopolize the computer making graphics.  Too bad there isn't such a fun program like that for the iPad.  Or if there is one, please let me know!

  • Lightroom 5.2 BLURRY When Zooming and Moving

EDIT: Updating to 5.5 seemed to have fixed this. FINALLY!
Now when panning around while zoomed in, it no longer pixelates.
This was not in any previous versions or 5.2 RC. Happens in the develop module.
    1. Everytime I zoom in or out, the image goes BLURRY for a second.
    2. Then when zoomed in and I click and drag, it say's sharp except on the edges that where not in view which get's pixelated, but when I let go of the mouse button, the entire picture goes blurry for 1-5 seconds. Even if I click and drag only 1 pixel over it blurs the entire photo.
    3. It also sometimes does it when  tapping \ to show before and after it goes all blurry and lags before it shows the before.
    4. It does it when  clicking back and forth from one image to another in the photo strip.
Before it use to be zooming in would look mildly pixelated for a moment, then when clicking and draginng only the edges out of view would look mildly pixeled for a moment. This is driving my nuts I've reinstalled lightroom, deleted the preferencees folder, optimised catalog. Not fixed. It's also slower than it use to be.
Example. Sometimes the blur is even worse. Click to enlarge

I solved my own issue.  I saw an article @ http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?19694-Spot-removal-tool-doesn-t-work-with-Wa com-Intuos-5-in-LR-5 that solved my issue.
    Step 1:
    Walcom Tablet Properties
    Step 2:
Click on Customize and change the default line graph from this:
    Step 3:
    To this
    Step 4:
    Click OK.
After that, my spot edit tool stopped freezing in LR 5.2 while i was using my intuos 5 pen.
Prior to doing this, I also did the procedure listed here:  http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8036
So it's possible that both need to be done in order for the freezing to stop.  I hope this can help others.

  • Is their suppose to be sounds when zooming on this camera?

I have a Fujufilm Water/Shock/Dust/Freeze Proof 12.2 mega pixel camera. This is the camera I have below.
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/FUJIFILM+-+FinePix+12.2-Megapixel+Digital+Camera+-+Green/9772631.p?id=12...
When I first got it I took test photos and videos. Well, They all came out great except when I zoomed DURING a video, You could hear it zoom and it was a loud, irritating noise when it zoomed. I mean, You couldn't hear me talking or anything in the backround. Just a loud noise.
Is this camera suppose to make a noise when zooming DURING a video? Or is it just my camera?
    Thanks!

Not just point-and-shoots - a common problem with ANY video recording device with an internal microphone.
Tape-based camcorders were notorious for tape noise.  They did a fairly good (but not perfect) job of reducing focus/zoom motor noise, and that was for dedicated video cameras.
In general, you can never expect good audio quality from any device (even a dedicated camcorder) using a built-in microphone.  If you have a camera that does not include a microphone jack (nearly all entry-level camcorders and DSLRs with video, and I think all point and shoots are in this category), if you really need high quality audio you can get an independent audio recorder like the Zoom H1 and splice the audio in during post-editing.  (That's how the professionals do it - that's the whole idea behind the "clapper" in movie production.)

  • Can I edit the size of my photo when setting up an email signature?

Can I edit the size of my photo when setting up an email signature?

Not sure what you mean by "photo screen?" Do you mean your Photo Stream?
In the Photos app there are several ways to view the photos. Tap on Albums. Your Photo Stream is one Album but there may be others including the Camera Roll, albums made on the iPad with photos from the Camera Roll, and albums of photos copied to your iPhone by syncing with your computer.
To remove albums from the Camera Roll, tap on the Camera Roll album to see the small thumbnails of the photos there. Tap on Select, tap on the photos to delete, then tap on the trashcan. The photos will then be moved to another album called Recently Deleted. They remain there for 30 days to allow you time to reconsider whether you really want to delete them or not. After 30 days they will automatically be deleted from your iPhone. But if you are sure you want the photos deleted from your iPhone delete them again from the Recently Deleted album.
Albums created on the iPad with photos from the Camera Roll can be deleted in the same way.
To delete albums copied to your iPhone by syncing with your computer running iTunes are deleted by doing another sync. But before you click on Sync deselect the albums in iTunes. Then when you click on Apply or Sync the albums will be removed from your iPhone but they will remain on your computer.
