Grainy when elements converts raw to psd file in editor.

Hello,
Im having trouble with elements 11.  I bring a file in from lightroom and convert it to pds (though i have tried tiff too).  Whenever i get it into elements editor, its REALLY grainy and not sharp at all.  The image on the left (is in editor) the right is lightroom.  Also, if i bring a raw file into the raw file editor of elements, its just fine, but the second i "open" it in editor as a psd, the quality turns horrible.  Help!

System info? Versions? Exact settings? PS only opening the merged view could indicate that the file contains data unique to Elements which it cannot interpret.

In Bridge when I R click on psd file and tell it to open in Photoshop it says can't find Photoshop.exe. Photoshop is running at the time. How do I teach it where Photshop.exe is?

I have sort of the exact same problem. Extremely far away from user friendly
I have an second issue as well: When I hook off all-day it comes up with an 8 hour event!
And then if I put in a late start hour it pushes end time to next day due to the 8 hour event suggestion.
All in all this gives a lot of changes just to enter an event.
    Command N
I learnt from your input to use this fuction. At least that comes up with a one hour event as default.

  • Can't import RAW and psd file with same name different extension

Trying to import a folder of images from desktop that I have been working with in Bridge CS3.
LR won't import a RAW file that has a PSD file by the same name. Tried renaming the PSD and deleting the one with the same name, but says it is still there and won't import the RAW file - What is the correct workaround on this? Why can't it import same name files with different extensions?

A forum search for 'RAW + JPEG' will give you more posts on this than you care to read. This will change. For now, import the RAW and PSD's from separate folders and then move them together for within LR.
LR is seeing the RAW as a sidecar to the PSD. It is an unforseen effect of the RAW + JPEG thing where they decided to not import the JPEG, seeing it as basically a preview image for the RAW.

  • CS5 - Layer links get lost when copying/duplicating to another psd-file

    Hello,
Following problem when using Photoshop Extended CS5 12.0.4 on OSX 10.6 described as example situation:
    1) You have a psd file with several layers and/or groups.
    2) Let's say 1 layer (N1) is linked to another layer(N2)  in that file and a further layer (N3) is again linked to another layer (L4). That makes 2 linked layers sets. (N1 and N2;  N3 and N4)
    3) When copying those linked layers to another existing file (either by using drag and drop, but also if using the duplicate layer/group menu option), all linked layers get linked together as one link, meaning that your previous SETS of linked layers are gone. (all 4 layers are linked together now as one instead of 2 separate sets of 2 interlinked layers.
Note: The only way to partially fix it was to duplicate the group  into a new file (using duplicate layer group from menu option as new  file), but i require it to be working for copying content from one  existing file to another existing file, hence this method is not  satisfactory.
    4) Does anyone know how this can be fixed, it looks like a PS bug to me?
    Any suggestions appreciated, many thanks.
    Best regards
    Manuel

Hi Dave, thanks for your swift reply.
The sample i have posted is just to explain the priniciple. Usually we work on very complex images with loads of groups and linked content.
Therefore drag each set of links is not really an option in this case, as it would cost quite a bit of time.
Our workaround trick at the moment is to mark the linked layers in colours in the layer palette and relink them after they have been duplicated but again this is not ideal. Thank you for your response, much appreciated.

  • Bridge locks briefly when updating metadata on large PSD files

When updating metadata on a large PSD file, Bridge "locks" up for a brief period of time. This is apparently when it's rewriting that large PSD file to update the metadata. I'd like to be able to use Bridge in an uninterrupted fashion while metadata is updated in the background. This normally works for smaller files, just not on large PSD files. You can reproduce this easily by just adding a keyword to a couple 100MB PSD files.
    --John

    Chris,
How large are the PSD files? If they are over 400MB, I think I know what's wrong.
Bridge has a file-size preference, and won't process files that are larger than your setting. You'll find this preference on the Thumbnails panel in the Bridge Preferences dialog. The default is 400MB--try bumping it up to a size larger than your largest PSD and then purge the cache for the folder containing those PSDs.
If that does not work, I'd like to have a copy of one of the PSDs that is not working for you.

  • PhotoShop Elements ...Editing PSD files

My clients often supply me with layered PSD files.  Their text is in a separate layer.  I need to modify the text.  Is Elements the right software for this?

What do you mean by 'simplify' the text?  What I get has text on it's own layer.  Is this text typically not editable?  It would be nice if it were, because the mar-comm people are usually very sensitive about font, size, shadow, etc.  Of course replacing it in another layer is also a workable option.  Thanks.

  • Why do I get scratchlike glitches when exporting from ai to psd files?

When I Export from ai to psd files, there are occasional horizontal dashes---one pixel high---of blank pixels. See an example:

Your example isn't showing up. Use the camera thingummy on the reply window.

  • When will Camera Raw support .arw files for the new Sony RX-100?

I have Photoshop Elements 9 and just purchased the RX-100. Currently the .arw raw files the camera produces are not supported in Camera Raw. When will Adobe be supporting this format?

No one can tell you when, but the new RX100 has support in the beta of Camera Raw 7.2 RC for Photoshop CS6 so I would guess that PSE11 will either ship with or could soon after be updated to ACR 7.2 with RX100 support.
PSE10 is the current version, but in the past, a new version of Elements has come out about this time of year so sometime in the next couple months.
What you can do right now is download the beta of the DNG Converter 7.2 RC from Adobe Labs which will convert a folder of ARW files to DNG files which can then be processed with older versions of Camera Raw including what comes with PSE10 or PSE9.
You could also download and use the beta for Lightroom 4.2 RC from on Adobe Labs to work with your files natively until the beta expires by the end of October, but before then you’d probably have a new version of Elements that would work.  If you go the LR 4.2 RC route, you’d want to save your changes to XMP sidecars in LR so you could read them using ACR in Elements, later.
    Betas/RCs are available at: http://labs.adobe.com/

  • Convert from BMP- / PSD-file to Vector- / AI-file

    Hello!
I have a detailed topographic map in raster format as a PSD- and a BMP-file. I would like to convert it to a vector- / AI-file!
The aim is that I want to trace the entire raster map (very big area) using the Pen tool, because it would take enormous time to manually vectorize all land masses, lakes and elevation curves with more using the Pen tool.
Do you have any good tips on how to do to avoid a lot of the manual work?
I've tried "Image Tracing" in AI, but the problem is that it traced the map has got considerably worse quality and detail so that it can not even be anväbda to something sensible.
Thanks in advance for your professional help!
    Sincerely Alexander from Sweden!
I unfortunately need to use Google Translate when I'm not so good at English!

    Alexander,
You may try to work with the settings for Image Trace and see whether you can improve the immediate result.
After that, it may be possible to do some cleanup.
But it all dpends on the actual map.
In any case, recreating with the Pen Tool and maybe other tools is recommendable for high quality vector artwork, and takes time.

  • How can I get the umlauts back when I convert a German pdf-file?

I translate German (patents mostly) into English and need to convert German pdf-files into
editable Word files. I am currently working on a computer that has Word 2003 with the compatibility pack
that allows it to handle docx files for Word 7.
How do I get ExportPDF to recognize the special German characters?
The writeup claims that European languages are handled by ExportPDF.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi!
Sorry about the problems. Can you please send us a copy of the file here with a brief description so we can take a look at it? In most cases, the umlauts should be retained when converting from PDF to Word.

  • Convert Raw Device to file system based file systems for datafiles [HP-UX]

    Hello experts,
Once again in seek of guidance..
I am in the process of migrating my database (Oracle 7.2.3 on HP-UX 10.20 to Oracle 8.1.7 64-bits on HP-UX 11).
Amongst one of our steps is to convert our RAW Device datafiles to File System based files within the same server and version - Oracle 7.2.3 on HP-UX 10.20.
    E.g. /dev/vg00/rlvol1 to become /d01/oradata/cmtdb/tbs1.dbf
    Is this something possible?
Can i just do the following:
    a. Shutdown database (normal)
    b. dd if=/dev/vg00/rlvol1 of=/d01/oradata/cmtdb/tbs1.dbf bs=20k
    c. chown oracle7:dba /d01/oradata/cmtdb/tbs1.dbf
    d. svrmgrl> startup mount
    e. alter database rename file '/dev/vg00/rlvol1' to '/d01/oradata/cmtdb/tbs1.dbf'
    f. alter database open.
Thanks very much for your replies.
Please tell me about possible problems that i can anticipate.

  • Photoshop cc freezes when I open a certain psd file

I am on Mac OS X 10.9 and working in CC
While i was rescaling a vector layer in a psd doc in which I have been working all day, PS CC suddenly froze. And now PS freezes when reopening that doc. PS opens the doc but freezes before loading the layers
I can open and work in other PS doc.
    Regards/Trine

Sounds like a corrupt file. Might try opening in a previous version of PS. As a last resort, if a flattened version of your file would be helpful to you, try opening a composite version of the file - hold down (on Mac) Shift + Option + Cmd and drag the file onto the PS icon in your dock. Click OK when the composite data dialog comes up.

  • Illustrator crashes when I try to place .psd file

What can I do to stop illustrator from crashing when I try to place photoshop files

Happens with a certain .psd - open .psd in Photoshop and resave over the same file. Can flush out corruption.
Happens with all .psds -  update illustrator (eg:. 16.0 to 16.04) reset your illustrator preferences.

  • Why am I getting error messages and sometimes no Bookmarks when I convert some MS-Word files to PDF

Our company produces educational products for business. Essentially they are e-books in PDF format with Bookmarks allowing for ease movement to various areas of the book. The original product is generated in MS-Word and then converted to PDF. These e-books vary from 40pages to 300 pages in length. Businesses use them as reference and problem solving tools. We are using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and for what we do it serves our purposes very well.
Recently, with some MS-Word files only, I have gotten error messages while converting the file to PDF. Sometimes, it will not complete the conversion. Sometimes, it will complete the conversion BUT-there are no Bookmarks in the PDF file.
The main error message I get is:
"Acrobat PDF maker has detected 'Highlight Changes in Printed Document' has been selected. To create a PDF file with tags, unselect this option from VIEW>MARKUP. Do you wish to continue and create PDF without tags."
If I don't unselect VIEW>MARKUP  in the MS-Word file I can't complete the conversion to PDF. If I do unselect VIEW>MARKUP I can complete the conversion to PDF but the PDF file has no Bookmarks. Bookmarks are absolutely essential to the user facility with our products.
Does anyone know my problem is and can offer a solution.
    Thanks in advance

    Somethings to consider.
