Grammar and Spelling checkers in SL

Hello everyone,
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the grammar checker is not working properly in SL. I remember that in MacOS 10.5 it underlined with green the parts of text it believed to be incorrect. It was in Mail, TextEdit and some other text applications.
Now in SL, it just seems not to work. I have just tried to type in Mail/TextEdit "He do not come..." in Mail, and nothing was underlined. Moreover, when I clicked on "Edit-Spelling and Grammar-Check Doc. Now" nothing has happened. I still get the spelling red underlying with typos, or "teh" stuff.
Tried to check in the system preferences, but nothing really helps. Is there a solution?

In TextEdit, have you gone to Edit > Spelling & Grammar and checked Check Grammar with Spelling? When I type your sentence, the "do" does get a green underline, and Show Spelling and Grammar brings up the panel with "do" and the message "the word 'do' may not agree with the rest of the sentence."

  • Disable autocorrect and spelling/grammar check features with Computer GPO

    We have two classrooms that need to have all the autocorrect and spelling and grammar check disabled.  I know there is a way to do it by a user GPO, but is it possible to do it by computer (with a registry change, etc)?  We can't do it by user
    because outside of the class the students will need these autocorrect options for typing papers and such.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    I'm sorry that it's been a while since I posted on this topic, but I am just now having to revisit this issue.  I tried just pushing out the registry entries though a GPO, but I have been told it is not working.  I tried creating a Startup script
    option, as in this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2007/08/14/deploying-custom-registry-changes-through-group-policy.aspx
    But it will not run.  The script itself works, as I have tested it manually.  I will include the body of the registry settings below.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Saving a PDF showing grammer and spelling flagged

    Is there a way when exporting to pdf of it showing the highlighted grammer and spelling issues to view in the final PDF document? Or can this be done in Acrobat itself instead - client needs to see the spelling/grammer issues in a PDF?

    You mean like that?
    I don't think so.
    You could do a spelling check and then apply a character style to anything that is mispelled (or just fix the spelling). And you can do the same for bad grammar.
    Make character styles called, "Spelling Errors" and "Grammar Errors".
    In the Underline options make the Point size large enough to encompass the text.
    Give each character style a unique colour. (perhaps giving a highlight to spelling errors could be scripted?)
    It would be a manual process.
    In Acrobat Pro you could do the same thing, do a spelling check and also check for grammar
    When you find them you can go to Comments>Commenting Tools>Highlighting
    And highlight the text that way.
    Acrobat would give you the option of editing the note it creates about the comment.
    But I think it would be a manual process, especially as InDesign has no grammar checker (and checking grammar is a manual thing anyway).

  • Grammar and spell check for mac user

    Hi I recently got IMAC 21'' with OS X 10.8.5 .
    I used to use Grammarly and Ginger it software  in my previous window computer. For non english speaking person those softwares were very useful to edit  ritings and email. Can anyone suggest whether I can install and use in my microsoft word in IMAC.
    If not,  are you aware about any  other software (spelling and  grammar checker)  which is compatible with OSX.
    I miss the ginger it . I love this MAc computer but miss to use those software. Any suggestions.

    You can download MS Office 2011 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for $140 from Microsoft.  You could also download Pages (the Apple analogue to Word that reads and writes Word formatted files) for $20.  Some people are choosing to use LibreOffice, which is free and duplicates almost all of the Office 11 features.  So you have several choices from expensive to free.

  • Language and spelling

    I have choosen dansih as setup language on my mac, but I want the standard spelling chekker in Safari, mails and all other places to be norwegian. How do I do that?

    In system preferences/international/language I have following i named order: danish, norwegian, englsih, france, germany, spanish and swedish checked, because that is the language I can handle. But in the spelling and grammar/show spelling and grammar I have the same, except of norwegian. Instead I have portuguese, netherland, italian and many other, which I do not want to, and therefore I do not have them in the system preferences/international/language.
    The thing is that I often write mails, google words in all the language in system preferences/international/language, and therefore wish to, easily change the spell chekker when switching writing-language in google, forums, mails etc.
    I am glad you like to help me!

    OK, restart the computer in Safe Mode, it's possible one or more caches has become corrupt. Restarting in Safe Mode will clear some caches.

  • Grammer and Spelling correction in InDesign

    Is it possible to get a Grammer and Spelling correction plugin for InDesign to correct Russian grammer and Spelling?

    Changing the applied
    i language
    does nothing. (Well, it changes the Spell Check, Hyphenation routine, and default smart quote style, so it does have its purposes.)
    Changing the language in the
    i Preferences
    does nothing. (You can change the default settings
    i for text in that language
    there, such as which hyphenation module to use, and what type of automatic quotation marks you want. These settings are only applied to text that has that language applied to it -- and existing quotation marks do not change, only those you enter afterwards.)
    Changing the language "of the document" (in the Character panel, with nothing selected) does nothing. Oh okay, it sets the default language for any new text frames you draw.
    So, the display of other language's characters has nothing to do with any language -- as Peter says, it's just a question of which characters are in your fonts. If there is no Greek, you cannot see Greek text. If there is no Cyrillic, you cannot see Russian text.
    When in doubt, apply the font Arial Unicode MS to the text. If suddenly all is clear, it's just the font you used before. If all still stay blocks and/or dots (highlighted in pink), you could check the Unicode value of one of these: select a single character and check the Info Panel. If it says anything like "F030" or "F061" or anything with a leading "F0", the font used in Word is non-Unicode compliant, and you cannot change the text to any other font. If it says anything between "0300" and "03FF" it is Greek, anything in the "04.." range is Cyrillic, etc., and most of Windows new fonts (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial) and Adobe's Pro fonts (Myriad, Minion) contain the appropriate characters.

  • I cannot uninstall Spanish spelling checkers

    I have twenty-one Spanish language spelling checkers on my right-click/Languages menu. I cannot find where they are installed, nor can I see how to uninstall them. I only have English in my Tools/Addons/Languages.

    Such items are usually added by the Ubuntu Linux distribution that you have, so try to ask at the Ubuntu forums about how to disable or remove those not needed entries.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    You can also try to install the official Firefox version from the Mozilla server if you currently use the version from the Ubuntu repository.

  • Spelling Checkers for Russian and Estonian

    Could someone please suggest a way of getting proofing tools - a spelling (and grammar) checker - for Russian. (Estonian might be useful sometimes, as well, but it's not important.) Will I need to install a third-party application, or am I missing something?

    Spelling and grammar are built into Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It should be available for both of those languages, but at a minimum Russian.

  • How can I get the erasure tool to leave a white or color background and not checkered?

    When using the erasure or erasure background tools, it leaves a checkered background. How can I get the erasure tool to leave a white or color backround?

    Jpegs can't have transparent areas. Most likely you had layers and were forced to save "as a copy", which means that the image which remains open in PSE is not the jpg. A file saved as a copy makes a copy in the save format, but it's not like save as where you now see the newly saved version instead of the original. The original remains open and unsaved onscreen.

  • -NEED HELP- iOS 6.1.2 in Calendar App for Adding Events BUG (And Spelled Incorrectly: Invitees)

    Dear Everyone, When I just add the events, I type the name and location, adjusting the time start and end, when I sliding up it looks like for spelled incorrectly: Invitees (Invites), and need bug fixes. I already feedback iPod Touch Team from my computer. I know Apple will fix it. Thanks, 1004blueAppleSupportCommunties (1004blueAppleSupportCommunities)

    "Invitee" means an invited Person. This is the section where you list your "Invitees." It's not a bug, nor a spelling error. It's 100% correct as it is.

  • Grammars and Parsing

    Hi everyone
    I'm trying to encode grammar rules so that I can build an application that recognizes whether a particular string is belongs to a particular language or not.
    The grammar I have is:
    Set := "{" Elementlist "}"
    Elementlist := <empty> | List
    List := Element | Element "," List
    Element := Atom | Set
    Atom := "{" | "}" | ","
    I've spent quite some time trying to get this work but It always fails on me! This is for a dynamic programming assignment.
    Cheers!

    List := Element | Element "," List
    Atom := "{" | "}" | ","
    Those two could be problematic since your parser might see
    - Element "," List
    as - Element Atom List,
    which is not in the grammar.
    Sometimes it's easier to take a few lines of code and generate a grammar from the code. Do you have any code you're creating this grammar for?

  • IWeb and spelling dictionary

    I use a lot of technical terms which I tell the dictionary to learn. It works fine the rest of that session. Next time I start up iWeb, it hasn't remembered any of the "learned" words.

    Can you explain the alternate language dictionaries
    and how you get access to them or switch between
    them?
    They are accessed via Edit > Spelling > Spelling > Dictionary.
    Also what format do they take? Is it possible to edit
    and build them yourself?
    I am mainly interested in German, Italian, Spanish,
    Serbo-Croatian and Mandarin/Cantonese. But the more
    the merrier s:-)
    For spellchecking dictionaries beyond those provided by Apple, use CocoaSpell or other options mentioned here. I've not heard of anyone trying to make their own.
