Grapher and 3D Quicktime Movie Bug?

Grapher (in the Utilities folder) is a great program for visualizing math functions. However, when I try to make a quicktime animation of a 3D function graph, it only generates the first frame of the animation, and the video is blank for the rest.
Try animating a 3D example, for instance. Is anyone able to get this functionality to work?
The animation does work for 2D graphs.
I tried it again on a new user account with the same results.
Any Grapher expert/developer read these forums?

Terrific investigation you did. I am amazed you tried the window size out! I too am using Bessel functions for rocket engine work.
I tried to repeat what you did, and only once did I get an animation out, with only 4 frames in it. This I could not do before.
I tried to "play" the sequence first, to see if loading those in memory would help. That seemed to help a bit, but I only had some of my frames in a few of the tries. I also quit and restarted the program repeatedly. The window itself was smaller than the in-window controls would fit, and still no luck again.
I don't know if this would help an Apple developer on this, but I did notice that in the latest version (Leopard?), the frames are not stored in memory like before, so the animation never speeds up after going though them all. This is a difference from a version a while back, which played them fast (with shading).
This is quite the bug!

I work with Premiere Pro on a mac and export quicktime movies to be played on pc's or mac's. When I export a qt from Premiere with audio it will not play on a pc only a mac. After extensive research I have narrowed down the problem to this: if you use the inspector in quicktime it looks like this
DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
I have to run it thru AE to make it look like this....then it plays
DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
SOOOO the problem is the Little/Big Endian. I googled that and it looks like a file/bit structure....anyone know how/why to change it in Premiere? Because everytime I make a movie in Prem I have to drag the sequence into AE and render it there so the sounds works.....

Html codes for a flash and a quicktime movie

I'm building a new webpage and I want to put a flash and a quicktime movie in every page......now that the new iWeb has the html snippet option I was wondering if there is anyway of embeding the movies with html code in a way that I just have to replace the movie file instead of putting the movies in every page all over again every time I want to update the site

I have a quicktime movie on a hard drive, and I have the hard drive plugged into my macbook, and the quicktime movie is not opening, its just a black screen. How do I convert it to the right file so I can watch it ?

I have quicktime movie files on a hard drive, and normally when I plug the hard drive into my computer, I can open the quicktime files and watch them. Now when I am doing it, the quicktime movies are opening up with a black screen. How do i convert it to be in the right format to be able to watch ?

I plugged my old drive into an identical Vostro and saved my bookmarks per the instructions. Later, when I check the file, it was in html format. While waiting for the replacement laptop to arrive, I put my old (Vostro) hard drive into a case so I could access the files. I have been able to launch web pages from the file bt accessing them through My Documents so I know the file is good. The problem is, I apparently need to convert them into a JSON file in order to use them. There is a set of instructions on the Mozilla/Firefox website but that method does not work.

Help with authoring and posting Quicktime movies on the web

I recently launched a new website (www.articles-of-war.com) with a 'movie trailer' page (http://www.articles-of-war.com/pages/down_trai.html) similiar to the movie trailer pages on the Apple site.
The page has links to Quicktime movies of different sizes (small, medium, high, HD, etc). When I click any movie, though, it takes a long time for them to appear before they can play (the blue Quickime "Q" logo appears as the entire movie loads, for example), rather than playing almost immediately.
When I built the trailer pages, I made sure to set "autoplay" to "true."
When I authored the Quicktime movies, I used these settings:
H.264
Prepare For Internet Streaming (Fast Start)
Data Rate: Automatic
I'm sure I'm skipping some simple step to make these movies play right away - is there anyone that can offer some advice?

You lost the "fast start" feature when you added the annotations and then used a regular "Save".
Use "Save As" (QuickTime Pro) to restore the fast start feature and upload those new files again.
You should also consider a more modern audio codec than IMA 4:1 to reduce the size of your audio track.

Exporting and deleting quicktime movies...

How do you move a movie shot in my still camera (quicktime) from my laptop to my IMAC? Burn it on dvd?
Also, how do you delete them?

Several possibilities:
If the files are small then iPhoto will import them. Then make an album of them and go Share -> Send to iDVD
If they are larger use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) to move the files to your desktop. Then you can either add them to iPhoto and Share them to iDVD as above, or simply add the to iDVD

Oh, and make sure the Final Cut Studio color compatibility setting (I forget exactly what it is called) is switched on in QuickTime Preferences.

Grapher and transparent background

I've searched high and low and was not able to find an answer. Here's my situation:
- I've created a 3D revolving graph using grapher and recorded the movement using SnapzPro. The resulting movie has a white background.
- I want to add it to a Keynote presentation I'm making.
My question:
Is it possible to make the white background transparent in FCE?
Any help will be most welcome!

So you don't actually have transparency in your 3D animation. You could try to key out the white in FCE, and then don't render and export to QuickTime Conversion using the Animation codec with Colors set to Millions+. I have no idea how Keynote handles this.

Exporting errors: the quicktime movie is "squished".

Hi. I'm exporting in HD and my quicktime movie is (vertically) squished. I appear "fatter" than I really am... but just barely.
I've tried many settings, but am currently compressing to 1280 x 720.
(I eventually want to get it to youtube, but for now even the file looks wrong / squished.)
{in case it matters, I'm using the Kodak Zi6, but I can't imagine that is the prob.)

" Make sure you set the 720p30 preset in FCE before you make a sequence. "

Keynote does not support exporting with embedded Quicktime Movies

I hope this helps a few of you out before you run into this problem.
Keynote does not support export to Quicktime with any slides that contain a quicktime movie.
Created a 27 page slide show with transitions, music, narrations and 6 Quicktime movies (Actually LiveType Text scrolls)
When I attempted to export it never finishes the export cutting it short after about 20 pages.
And the pages with the movies, don't start playing.
It exports fine as a quicktime movie without the movies inserted though.
Spoke with Apple Support and they confirmed that quicktime placed files within Keynote playback is only supported from the native Keynote Application.
I read somewhere on this board that it was an issue with Quicktime version 7.5, not so as I tried the same test on a mac with Quicktime 7.42 and it had the same issue.
So, beware.

Maybe I didn't understand well what you said but it is possible to export a Keynote file with embedded Quicktime movies to a quicktime movie. Actually, I'm doing it and I works. BUT, the issue I get is that I can't get my embedded videos to loop. Grrr...

Everything was fine until this last pass, when suddenly, half the people said they could see the video, but not hear the audio. I'm posting H.264 video with AAC audio. Even more unusual is that the people with the more recent machines and software were the ones having trouble. The older cpus and software seem to playback the movs just fine.
And it seems to be affecting Windows and Mac users equally.
Any suggestions?

Help! Quicktime Movies playing only five still frames

When I try and play quicktime movies on my PC (Windows Vista) they play back with sound, but only five still frames from the movie play on the screen. How do i fix the problem?
I'm running windows vista and Quicktime 7.3.1. The problem shouldn't be the video card as all my other video player applications playback fine.

I had a Canopus ADVC-110 sitting right here.
Plugged it up to the TV,
and the images appeared fine.
But this brings up one more question:
Is there a way to have all these images from Final Cut accurately displayed on a computer monitor ?
I've got a lot of more of them around than TVs . . .
Sorry to have bothered you with this, but I would appreciate further information on displaying the images on a computer monitor.

What the Heck??? Quicktime Movie Problem....

Hi. I really hope someone can help.
I basically want to create a Quicktime Movie; however, when completed, the item properties are not always the same as the custom Quicktime Movie settings I chose.
Here are my sequence settings in FCP:
HD (960x720) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720)
Anamorphic box unchecked
Editing Timebase: 23.98
Quicktime Video Settings: DVCPRO HD 720p60.
That's the timeline I work on - no problems.
Then I try to export using Quicktime Movie with these Custom settings:
Frame Size: 960x720 - HD (960x720) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720)
Anamorphic box unchecked
Editing Timebase: 23.98
Timecode Rate: Same As Editing Timebase
Quicktime Video Settings: DVCPRO HD 720p60.
*SOMETIMES IT WORKS, SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T!*
When it does work, nothing changes; the Item Properties are the same as the settings I chose upon export and the Quicktime Movie does not need to be rendered when imported back to the original sequence.
However, at times the settings change as such:
Frame Size: 1280x720
Pixel Aspect: Square.
NOTE: I have never been able to successfully export the entire sequence (TRT:00:02:56). When it did work and the settings remained the same, I only attempted to export a small portion of the sequence.
The sequence is comprised of only audio/video, a couple of slugs, and a couple of title cards.

Current settings did not make a difference since I essentially was using current settings by manually plugging them in under "Custom."
Unfortunately, I had to plug-and-chug my way through. After two hours and over 30 QuickTime movies, I found three trouble spots:
1) A slug at the beginning;
2) A cross dissolve between two clips;
3) A cut within one clip.
VERY ODD!!! Once I removed these conditions, e.g., eliminated the slug and started hard on the clip, removed the cross dissolve, and eliminating the cut, I was able to successfully create a QuickTime movie of the entire sequence at the current settings.
Why? So weird!!! The thing that confuses me the most is that the three conditions were so different (seemingly, at least). I couldn't find any common situation.
Any thoughts anyone???

How can you sync and play quicktime movies on Apple TV - they do not report in the Movies dialogue box??

They have to be in the correct format to play on AppleTv - what are the Quicktime video and audio formats of the files?

Grapher: can I make a quicktime movie for a parameter animation of a 3D graph?

In Grapher, I can't seem to make a quicktime movie of a parameter animation for 3D graphs.
For example:
Make a new 3d graph.
Add the equation x^2+y^2+z^2-k=0
Add another equation k = 1, and Animate Parameter on it, set the range from 0 to 6, and play the animation to see a growing green sphere.
Click the movie button to create a quick time movie.
I get a movie of one frame of the animation repeated many times. I.e. the parameter animation does not appear in the quicktime movie.
Should this be possible?

There is a very old bug in Grapher :
          Bug nr. 16 (Grapher 1.1, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3). In 3D windows, menu Equation > Create Animation : the various parameter, zoom and frame animations from the pop-up window “Animation“ do not work.
                    The remedy : No idea.
                    Proposed correction : restore these animations.
Using Grapher 2.1 in OS X 10.6.8, to animate a sphere (cartesian coordinates) :
— in a new 3D window (use a new window for any change you wish), enter these equations
k = 1 and   sqrt(x^2 + y^2 + z^2) = k ;
— click the parameter k=1 ;
— Menu Equation > Animate Parameter > Settings : Min Value 1, Max Value 6, Steps 11. OK ;
— Try the animation : Play then Pause ;
— Click Create Movie, try it ;
— Menu File > Save as… (.mov) to get a QuickTime Movie… working well.
Remember : any change you want to do NEEDS A NEW WINDOW ; if not, animations can’t no more be created and saved.
I tried today Grapher 2.3 on a Mac Book Pro (Dec 2010) OS X 10.7.5: The bug is worse, no more animations available in 3D and two icons desappeared from the animation panel (places remain clickable). Sorry for you !
How is it in Mountain Lion (it’s still Grapher 2.3) ?
