  • Paying monthly for a mac help and graphics card query

So i'm thinking of buying a mac from the uk and i can pay it off monthly, which is 67pounds. does anyone know what the interest will be overall. its costing me a total of 2,240pounds. thanks.
reason for me buying a mac is so i can run final cut pro. does anyone know what the essential graphic card is to run final cut pro smoothly. or will the standard one be enough which comes with the mac pro?

i was told that the mac pro is the ultimate thing for final cut pro
It is. However, it's not a computer one should buy on a tight budget and from the sounds on it you're way over stretched as is. It's sort of like buying an Audi TT where you have to spend around an extra £9000 or so on optional extras to make it worthwhile. Same goes with the Mac Pro.
because it can be upgraded where as the imac cannot
True… but you still have to be able to afford those upgrades and without doing so your Mac Pro won't be going anywhere near its best.
i was told that having 2gb ram is more than enough
You were told what you wanted to hear and what would make it easier for you to buy it. For FCS you're talking about a 4GB RAM minimum configuration with an 8GB recommended configuration.
because we have 2gb ram at our uni computers and final cut pro runs smooth.
That's a matter of perspective as you might want to see FCP running with 4GB+ RAM.
i heard you can get a few problems with an imac because everything is compact into one interface.
Did you hear that from the guy trying to sell you a Mac Pro? While it's true that every system has it's problems, and the iMac is no exception, you find that the iMac is an extremely well performing system for its price.
Don't get me wrong, the Mac Pro is the best system to buy if you're a video editor. You do however need the budget to go along with that and video is one arena which demands the absolute most from your computer system. Lacking in one area actually hampers the performance of the system as a whole and it is no more prevalent than with video.
My recommended minimum Mac Pro package for a video editor is…
    Mac Pro 2.66Ghz 4GB RAM/2 x 500GB HDD RAID 0/ATi X1900 XT/1920 x 1200 resolution display/1TB HDD clone/1500VA-800W UPS
Remember, video editing is not just FCP and as your chosen profession it's the unfortunate cost of your

  • MacBook Pro and Adobe CS5 graphics card upgrade

I have a few questions that I can't seem to get answers to from Adobe. I have a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.8 with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR2 SDRam, and GeForce 8600M GT graphics card. I currently have Adobe CS3 on it, but would like to upgrade to CS5. I know that I'll need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but I believe I'll need to upgrade my graphics card also. According to Adobe's site, the compatible cards listed are the Nvidia quadro fx ones. the one they suggest is for a macbook pro, however, and costs about $1500. I'm trying to find out if I can even upgrade the graphics card on my MacBook, and if so is there anything that costs about a tenth of that price. CS5 specs can be found here http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/mastercollection/systemreqs/
My MacBook also has the dual boot (windows and Mac). I have never booted in Windows and have a windows laptop, so I'm wondering if it would be better to get rid of that, so that CS5 would run better when installed. any ideas/suggestions?

"... I know that I'll need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but I believe I'll need to upgrade my graphics card also."
Why do you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard?
The graphics card is not upgradeable.
I would query the forum for users of CS5 and Leopard with your hardware configuration and see if they have any problems.

  • Is iMac graphics card sufficient for Photoshop CS6

I'm considering purchasing a new 21.5-inch iMac that comes equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR5 memory. Will this graphics card be sufficient to run Photoshop CS6?

Your query has an answer in more details here: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html. If you see this section which says
Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6
    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 series .
Hence 650M will fall under this range and is supported to run Photoshop CS6.

  • Can't get dedicated graphics card to work.

I can not get the dedicated graphics card to work on my laptop. I spend my night installing and uninstalling drivers, wich none of them seem to work.
To check the card if its working, I dissabled Intel HD Graphics adapter and left the AMD, instead of getting the dedicated card to work I got "Microsoft Basic Display Driver".
    Please help me....
EDIT: I only reinstalled AMD drivers, I didn't touched the intel ones since they work.

  • I want to disable my integrated graphics card.

Hi, i have a very frustrating issue with my notebook, which is, i use it mainly for gaming. (didnt have a choice on the pick, i won the computer at a lan event in portugal). I thought that the graphics card was broken for several reasons, but i have since then called HP support and they told me that infact its the computer that decides in the end which display adapter is used, even when i have selected for it to do otherwise(its selected to run the NVIDIA graphics card, but according to hp support even when i have chose it to do this its still selecting the wrong one.). If i disable the intel hd4000 on the device manager and try to go on the nvidia control panel, it says that i dont have a display adapter connected, if i enable it and go on the control panel, it doesnt show half the options it should (no resolution change, no digital vibrance change). So i asked hp support if i could disable intel hd4000 entirely and he said i couldnt unless i downloaded a specific BIOS online, which is why im here. Im done playing with 50-60 fps on a 4 year old videogame which i play on the lowest settings and near the lowest resolution, so, if you could point me out the version that allows me to disable my intel hd4000 graphics card so that my laptop only uses the NVIDIA graphics card, that would be great. If the low fps problem persists, then i will at least know that the computer is just horrible for gaming, if it doesnt, then great, i was right about it never using the nvidia card in the first place.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi @RicardoAlmeida ,
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to  help!
I grasp that you are having an issue with your switchable graphics and HP support referred you to a bios update.
You can run the HP Support Assistant  to aid with HP updates.  Here is a link to the HP ENVY dv6-7300sp Notebook PC Drivers where there is a bios update if it has not been done previously. • G41M4 Graphics Card Support

I just build a PC with the following parts and OS:
    Windows Vista 32-bit
    MSI G41M4 Mainboard
    4GB Kingston HyperX Ram
    320GB HDD
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz
    Innovator PSU 450W
    The question is as follows:
Can this system support the Gainward GeForce GT240 512MB GDDR5 graphics card?
Is this card enough to play games like League Of Legends at full graphics?
Official link for the graphics card: [/color]]http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=407
For any other details don't hesitate to ask me, I really appreciate some answers here  :D

    Quote
As for your PSU, I suggest something with at least 28A on +12v rail for that to work stablely with the card.
The exact reason for my query. That PSU will be at or beyond its limits, even with a GT240. see here https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards
Pambos, with the difficulty of finding the cards that you want, look around and consider the lower end 400 series or 500 series cards before deciding on the GT240.
You will probably have to upgrade your PSU to ensure a safe and stable system after adding a GPU. The Corsair CX430 or 500 should serve you well. They have nearly double the amps that your current supply has.

  • Is my 2011 15" Macbook Pro's graphics card standard/working correctly?

I have been trying to update the drivers for my AMD HD Radeon 6750M graphics card on my 2.2Ghz Macbook Pro 15 Late 2011, but when using the search option here I can't manage to find it? Was wondering if i'm not looking correctly or what..
Another question is whether or not it is standard to have 512mb of video ram with this computer, because in my profiler it only shows 512mb but from the site i bought it it stated 1gb of vram. It does have integrated gpu; intel hd graphics 3000 with another 512mb so do they work together to equate to 1gb?
Last query is whether it is normal to get the error 'your video card does not support alpha blending with floating point render targets' when trying to play a standard game (Super MNC) on bootcamp/virtual machine because i expected a video card in a model at a decent end of the range to be able to run games like this..
Some insight into either 3 of my queries would be appreciated,
    cheers

Apple releases updates to the graphics drivers via software update. Normally updates are released with OS X updates. The computer switches use between the integrated card and the discrete card. When you access About This Mac it will only provide information of the card currently in use. Turn off Automatic Graphics Swithing in System Preferences>Energy Saver and then open About This Mac.

    Hi there,

  • Graphic Card Upgrade for HP-Pavilion dv6t-7000

Hello. I have the HP Pavlilion dv6t-7000 with the NVIDIA GT650M 1GB grpahics card. Now because of my work, i need to extends my graphic card memory. So I want to ask if my laptop is possible to upgrade to GT650M 2GB card.
My product number is A5F74AV. And my wannary is end on 8/24/2013.
And this laptop is a gift of my aunt from USA, and I'm living in Viet Nam now. So if yes, can HP Vietnam do the upgrade for me? My aunt's family is very busy so I can't resend my laptop and ask them to return to you.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi:
The only way to upgrade the video card in your notebook is to replace the entire motherboard which would cost as much as buying a new notebook with better graphics.
If you had HP do the upgrade, it would probably cost more than buying 2 notebooks with better graphics than yours.

  • Is it possible to upgrade/add a graphics card to a Pavilion dv7-7000 laptop?

I've been doing a lot of research lately, to mostly no avail, about whether or not my HP Pavilion dv7-7025dx laptop can have a dedicated GPU added to it, as currently it only has the integrated Intel HD 4000 Mobile graphics card.
Mostly I've come across the unfortunate agreement that most laptops cannot have their graphics cards upgraded/swapped out, since the graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard. However, after talking to an HP "support representative", they said they believed it was possible to add a graphics card, as long as it is compatible with the HM77 45W UMA Motherboard my computer has.
Furthermore, after finding the maitenence and service manual online for my computer ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf ) it says that it could have come with switchable graphics, specifically the Nvidia Geforce 630M or 650M.
So I am wondering, is it really at all possible to add a dedicated graphics card, either by having switchable graphics or something else? Or am I stuck with the integrated Intel HD graphics?
If I can upgrade/add a new card, where would I be able to find/buy a compatible one, and would I be able to install it myself or would I need to go to a local computer repair?
My laptop is the HP Pavilion dv7-7025dx Entertainment Notebook.

    Hi,
You can't add a dedicated graphics card to the system like this. The vga is soldered to the board so no way you can just plug it in like on a desktop. However, you can buy a new motherboard with the dedicated graphics card on it. It also requires a new heat sink.
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf
You need a 682040-001 board plus 682061-001 heat sink to have a dedicated graphics card on your laptop. Have a look on ebay for the part numbers.

I am not a PC repair tech by trade or training.
Other than the replacement motherboard, and fan and heatsink combination, I wouldn't know if any other parts are required.
The parts you need are listed in chapter 3 of the service manual with the part numbers.
I also don't know if the boards come with the windows 8 product key included in the BIOS.
There may be multiple motherboards listed, so make sure you get the right one.
Same for the fan and heatsink.

  • How to backup files onto external hard drive if my MacBook's graphics card is broken?

    Hello,
I have a 15" 2012 Macbook pro with 2gb of ram, i7 processor, and a 250 gb Hard drive. In the middle of using my computer, the screen went black. Upon rebooting the computer, I noticed gray and white horizontal lines running across the screen, but I was still able to see the apple logo and loading indicator in the background. As soon as the login screen appeared, the screen went black again.
    Genius Bar Diagnosis:
A few days later I took my computer to the apple store to have them diagnose the computer to determine if the hard drive was corrupt or if it was just a display issue. They found that the hard drive was still functioning properly, so no information was lost. The problem was that the graphics card needed to be replaced. So they offered to ship my laptop to an Apple repair facility in Houston, Texas (nearest one to me) and replace the graphics card, as well as any other parts that seemed to be damaged, for a flat rate of about $315. They recommended that I back up my hard drive just in case they found an issue with it (despite nothing showing up in the diagnosis at the genius bar) because the technicians at the repair facility will just swap it out for a new one.
    My dilemma:
The employee at the genius bar gave me a list of Apple Authorized Service Providers that could help transfer the data from my macbook's hard drive to an external hard drive. I got a quote from them for $150, plus I would have to pay for a new external hard drive because my other one is full. In an effort to save money, I want to see if there is a cheaper way for me to backup the hard drive by myself. I have a pc laptop that still works fine, so I have been using that since my MacBook Pro died on me. Is there any way I could use that other computer to somehow backup my macbook's hard drive? Or would I need another mac to do the transfer? I have looked into buying a hard drive sled, but I don't know how those work, and I may not have all of the right equipment for it. If that is something I have the right tools for, and it's cheaper after buying all the accessories, then I would much rather go that route than taking it in to get serviced at an AASP store. Please help!
I'll give good ratings to those who give me useful advice.
    Thanks,
    Matt

You could also pull the drive out of your MBP and use an external USB case or SATA - USB dongle to hook it to another Mac.
