Graphic Converter and Leopard

Since I installed Leopard on my iMac Aluminum 24" , Graphic Converter is unable to save anything, showing an "error code -43".
I've already contacted Lemke Software and they can't find anything wrong, I even emailed them the .plist (which I've trashed several times).
I know that this may not be the appropriate forum to post this question, but I'm hoping that somebody had the same problem and came out with a solution.
If I boot as an other account, the problem disappears........
What I've done so far:
a) Verify the disk > OK
b) Repair permissions > OK
c) Reinstall Leopard > Archive and Install
d) Reinstall Graphic Converter
All the available updates are done as of today.
Any help is really welcome.
Regards
Pedro

I've the latest version 6.0.1, but yesterday, after posting this message I did a cleanup of some old apps that were while using Tiger, and fortunately, the problem is gone.
On the other hand, I don't know which one was causing the problem since I trashed a few apps at the same time.
It was a conflict with some app, that didn't show up in Tiger.

  • Bulk convert to png and resize (pixelmator, graphic converter or other)?

    hi all.
i have been looking at pixelmator and graphic converter as i have a need to both CONVERT IMAGES to png as well as to RESIZE and "RE-PIXELATE" them to some fixed pixel width. i have been finding Preview to be fantastic with the bulk resizing (you simply open all the images and then pulldown to resize, set the new size and then save). this requires that i move the resized images to a new folder so as to not over-write the original but it is extremely nice and /quick/.
unfortunately, converting these to png in Preview appears to require me to export each individually (and then i have to go back and delete the other file types with the same names as the new png's which i don't need).
i have been using Name Mangler which is super fantastic for bulk renaming and i am wondering if there is a methodology in either of these tools (or if there is a better tool for this) or if this would be better accomplished in something like Aperture. i /tend/ to keep information such as this residing in a FOLDER on my desktop because it is about to be uploaded to the web via ftp but if there was a great benefit to doing this in something like an Aperture database i could certainly move in that direction.
anyone have any specific explanation of specific steps i could take in aperture for this or in other software?
this seems like a reasonably common need (size to width, dpi and file type)...
    TIA

    Jon,
I think the export presets in Aperture can do what you want.
You just would have to define a custom export preset.
Assuming the images you want to convert have been imported to Aperture, select them in the Browser and select to export the versions (File > Export > Versions).
In the Export panel select a png export preset, then switch to "Edit"
In the "Edit" panel duplicate the png preset, then set the pixel size you want to use and export your images.

  • HP Color Laserjet 3550 and Leopard not working!PLEASE HELP!!

Please excuse me if this has been answered, but after being on the phone for 2 hours with HP, and looking through 100 support articles I am at the point of no return when it comes to frustration.
I have an Imac that I bought 6 months ago. Today my very generous brother bought me the new Leopard. I was very excited after I installed it. It was afterall another reason to play and explore. Then I found a bug.... I am a graphic artist and I went to print out a design for a client and it would not print. No matter what I tried my Imac that was printing to my HP COLOR LASERJET 3550, less then 2 hours ago, was no longer printing. Everytime I send something to print, the printer would say "printer connection opening" then it would say "fatal error......" and pause the job again.
PLEASE HELP WHAT DO I DO!!!! I AM VERY UPSET AND VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!

I just bought my MacBook Pro last week. I have been trying off and on for 3 days to get it to print to my HP Color Laserjet 3550 through apple talk and keep getting a message: The Application Printer Proxy Quit Unexpectedly.
I tried the generic post script printer driver. I no longer got the message but it didn't print either. I am at my wits end.
I was going to upgrade my IMac to Leopard and I sure am glad I read your post. I now will not upgrade because my IMac prints just fine.
So I at least learned something here. Maybe Leopard isn't the best system yet.

  • Should we avoid Graphical mapping and stick with Java mapping?

After developing mappings in XI for a month, I just don't see any good reasons to use Graphical mappings over Java mappings. Maybe some experienced users here can give me some valid reasons why we should choose Graphical mappings. Here is what I think:
    Disadvantages of Graphical mappings:
    1. No way to perform automated unit testings. This is probably the biggest reason I hate it. You can do some tests manually when you work in Integration Builder. But there is no way you can write some unit testing utilities to automate the task.
    2. Complexity. Even for some simple requirements, your Graphical mappings can become complicated and hard to understand. A lot of times, I find myself staring at several dozens of graphical nodes and try to understand what it does.
    3. Impossible to reuse. This is totally against the DRY (Don't repeat yourself) principle. For example, to generate messages for JDBC adapter, it is common to have two identical fields for primary keys: one in the access node and another in the key node. If you change the mapping logic in one, you have to remember to change the other.
    Advantage with Java mappings:
    1. Fully automated unit testing. You can create JUnit tests along with your Java mapping classes and use Maven or other build tools to perform automated unit testing.
    2. Your choice of XML parsing and binding. With Java mapping, you can choose any open source framework for XML parsing and binding. For example, with XMLBeans, I can convert XML input message to a Java object, transform to another Java object and write to output message. And each Java object is generated from its corresponding XML schema.
    3. Highly reusable. We can use fundamental object-oriented designs to create highly reusable mapping components.
    4. Better version control. Since the mappings are just Java classes, we can use CVS or SVN to track code changes.
    5. Better build tools. We can fully utilize build tools like Ant and Maven to automate the build, unit tests, or even generate documents and mapping web sites.
So do you guys agree? Maybe I am still new to XI or I am missing some important things. But at this point, I just don't see why I should use Graphical mappings. Is there anyone developing XI interfaces completely with Java mappings?
Thanks in advance for any comments!

    Hi Suraj,
    > Since its graphical the blocks will take space, but
    > there is always an adavntage of processing time.
    > Ebven though it may appear bigger, it will take less
    > time as compared with Java code (for the same

Could you explain more why the graphical mapping has better performance? I thought the graphical mapping is compiled into a Java class in the runtime anyway.
    > Yes thats there, but same goes with Java mapping too
    > right (if you haven't mentioned it as constants)
I mainly think about inheritance. If I have to build 10 interfaces and they all have some common behavior, I can create a base interface class to encapsulate the common logic. But with graphical mapping, you have to duplicate them in each interface.
    > Disadvantages of Java mapping:
    > 1. Performance
Same as above. I just don't see why Java has worse performance. I actually think Java should have better performance. You can optimize the code anyway you want. In some cases, you have to use queue functions in graphical mapping but it's not necessary in Java.
    > 2. All might not be well versed with Java Code(though
    > everyone may know basic java) .
I am not asking everyone to abandon graphical mapping. I am just wondering which one is better when you have skills for both.
    > 3. Lot of standard functions are available in GM

You can create functions in Java too. All you have to do is to remember the function name.

  • Graphic Issues with Leopard - iMac 24" White GeForce 7300 GT

Upon installing Leopard, I've noticed several graphics issues and general lag and delayed response with the interface. I'm running a 24" iMac 2.16ghz White early 2007, 3gb of RAM, with the GeForce 7300GT card. I have Time Machine disabled, and Spotlight has fully indexed.
When installing Leopard, I did an "Erase and Install" and have manually installed my Applications after the Leopard install. I'm using only a few applications that are all "Leopard ready" and have a relatively clean system at this point. I have also cleaned the PRAM, per the recommendations in some of the threads ive read, which didn't seem to correct the issue in this case.
It seems that any time I run any type of video or graphical application, such as Photo Booth, World of Warcraft, iChat, etc, I get a large amount of lag and slow response with the interface. Windows respond very slowly, and the applications freeze for 15-20 seconds. Even when not engaging any applications, opening folders in the finder as well as the dock appear to stall and respond very slowly.
Aside from these issues, Leopard has performed very well and I have had no other issues. Quicklook and coverflow all seem to respond very quickly and smoothly. My guess is that it may be driver related as it seems to be centered around items that are engaging the video card, though it is strange how some graphical effects seem to work smoothly while others are rather choppy. I have been watching the Activity Monitor and there don't appear to be any processes that are sucking up CPU, and nothing obvious that may be reducing performance.
I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed anything similar to this on similar hardware, or possibly may know what the culprit could be. My best guess, again, is that it could be the drivers or firmware with this specific hardware that I'm using.
    Thanks for your time

I've had the same graphics issues with my white iMac 24 (serial no starts W8638), but with the GeForce 7600 card. AppleCare got me to do all the usual stuff (reset PRAM, clean Leopard install etc) but problems continued. The usual pattern is that after a while horizontal lines appear (usually in Safari) and things deteriorate form then on until there is so much pixellation that I have to turn off and back on.
Yesterday I ran for several hours using SMCFanControl to set the fans to max and had no problems, so my suspicion is that the additional graphics requirements of Leopard are over-heating the graphics card or logic board.
The Apple engineer took the machine away today and said they'll probably replace the logic board and graphics card (I think they can't change one without the other in the iMac?).
Will be a few days but I'll report back on what repairs they make and whether they solve the problem. My fear is that any changes they make will have no effect if its a design problem and the card is just not up to the job without over-heating. Though it could be the card just needs a good clean
Has anyone else tried increasing fan speed?

  • Graphics convert but not text even when ocr is disabled

graphics convert but not text even when ocr is disabled

Hmmm... I seem to have found the plist file that is doing it. I was looking at /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Remote\ Desktop/ before... looks like /Library/Preferences/com.apple.ARDAgent.plist is the culprit.
This plist is a binary, so I had to use plutil to convert to xml in order to make it human readable. I wonder if I can just hack this file up a bit and re-deploy it to each machine. Or I wonder if it would re-build if I simply remove it from each client. I will need to test to find out, seeing as though the task servers are listed in it, probably not a good idea to remove it all the way.

  • How to convert Graphic-Converter of AppleWorks in Pages?

    Hi
I d'like to upgrade to OS X Lion. I know, that I can open AppleWorks-Docs with Pages. But I have made many docs with the Graphic-Converter (fractions, roots etc.). These elements cannot be edited by Pages.
    What can I do?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Thanks, Roger
I ment the Equation Editor. I tried to write a fraction in the Equation Editor of AppleWorks and to paste it into a Pages-Doc, but I made it with OS 6. It worked, but  it's not possible to edit the fraction anymore. I don't know, if the Equation Editor will still run in OS 7. I could use the Equation Editor of Word. So I have at least the possibility to create new terms.
Or do you see an other possibility?
    Kind regards
    Christian

  • Graphic Converter insisting on opening WMV files

I'm trying to access wmv files, but even after downloading the Windows Media Player and Stuffit, my Graphic Converter keeps trying to open the files, and it CAN'T!! I just keep getting boxes of codes appearing on my screen. Do I need to get rid of Graphic Converter or is there a better solution? Thank you, in advance, for any help you can offer.
    Tara

    I don't think you're quite on target.
Locate a .wmv movie file in the Finder. Select the file with the mouse and press COMMAND-I. That should open the Get Info window. Alternatively, use the Get Info menu selection in the Finder's File menu. Then locate the section labeled Open With. You may need to click on the little arrow on the side to open the section. Proceed as previously instructed.

  • Graphic converter as default to open media player - why?

Certain downloaded media files can only be opened by first going through graphic converter as the designated default. I want to completely by pass graphic converter (don't understand its value in this instance) and have the downloaded file upon via Real Player (including alias in dock).
I guess the place to start is to un-default graphic converter - but how? Nothing in the apps preferences that suggest how or the user's manual.
    Any help appreciated
    Mcthomas

    Hi McThomas...
You can change the application associated with a file using the Info window.
    1. Select a document in the Finder.
    2. Choose File > Get Info (Command-I).
    3. In the Info window, click the "Open with" disclosure triangle.
    4. Choose an application from the "Open with" pop-up menu.
The next time the selected file is opened in the Finder, it will be opened with the chosen application.
    5. If you want all files of the same type to be opened with the chosen application, click Change All.
When making changes to a specific file, the change is stored in the file itself. When using the Change All button, it updates the binding for the active user, and stores it in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist. In other words, if one user changes the application association for a specific set of files, those changes do not affect other users on the computer.
Why Graphic Converter is set to open audio files, I have no idea, but i might just be a corrupt cache file. Therefore If you need to reset the system-wide bindings, discard the database (named com.apple.LaunchServices-userID-based value.csstore) from /Library/Caches and restart the computer. You can delete the user-set bindings file as well.

  • Graphic Converter jpegs increase in size when reduced?!

I'm not being allowed to join the Graphic Converter forum because (evidently) the download was free, so I turn here.
When I make a copy of a jpeg in Graphic Converter (Version 6.4) to edit, the file shows up in my System Drive as LARGER than the original. From 756 kb to 1.6 mb. This defies all sense. What is being added? When I convert it to black and white, it's still at 1.6 mb.
    Thanks so much!

    Hmmm!  But does it!
Playing around with that, I find this:
In GC's browser the file is shown as 1.2MB
A copy saved to the desktop shows in Get Info as 1.7MB
The Exif file in GC shows as File Length 1.2 MB, Memory 16.5MB (22.0MB)
I have been using GC for years and still find some of it mystifying!
If it is important to you I don't mind emailing Torsten Lemke and asking him, and will then post back (should be quick, the guy never sleeps), but you should really pay for this superb shareware and have that facility yourself!

  • Graphic glitch and freezing.

I had a graphic problem with my iMac 3 weeks ago, had to take it to an Apple repairer 3 hours away, there just isn't anyone closer, and have had it back for about 6 hours now. I got the Snow Leopard upgrade while it was away and have been looking forward to getting into it all. As soon as I got my iMac home I fired it up and straight away noticed a graphic glitch or something odd on my 2nd monitor, kinda looked like aliens from space invaders... This problem went away if I changed that monitors resolution or if I rotated the display, so I thought it might be a driver problem which should hopefully be fixed by upgrading to SL.
I attempted this upgrade, it seemed to go fine but when I finally got into SL I noticed that once again there were some space invader glitches, but instead of being huge and all the way across the 2nd monitor they were in 2 separate blocks 1 in the top left and one just slightly to the right from center at the very top, they were flashing green from time to time (just like before) but that was about all. After a few seconds all the icons on my desktop and also the dock icons screwed up, display as black and white lines, or weird colored blocks, or super pixelated and just pretty screwy.
I formatted from fresh doing Leopard (without updating fully to 10.5.8) then installing SL, same problem, I then tried installing just SL which worked as usual but still had the graphic glitches when hovering over or interacting this time, also there were some problems with the glitches showing over windows (I'll put a link to a screenshot of them at the end). I'm currently updating a fresh install of Leopard to 10.5.8 to then update to SL to see if that works.
I had a thought that it might be hardware, the logic board and graphics card were both replaced during the repair time, they said they tested it but on the repair form I got it just says 'restarted a few times with no problems' so I'm not sure if they even tested it very much.
It took almost 3 weeks to get my mac back today, and these problems are quite annoying, if I have to lose it for another 3 weeks because of this lack of testing I'm gonna be rather annoyed as I'm losing work because of it.
Anyone got ideas of what it might be? or just anyone else had this problem with SL or just Leopard? Any information would be great.
Screenshot of glitch while doing a google search:
    http://www.xager.net/i/glitch.jpg

My old first gen macbook pro had a similar problem (under Tiger and Leopard), it was fixed. My current unibody macbook pro is doing this as well, I've only noticed it now under Snow Leopard.
I doubt it's a software problem, I've had similar issues in PCs when their video cards were running too hot. My current mbp gets these glitches when the system is under more load and so I'm sure its heat related. One time the heat and glitches got so bad the system just locked up.
I hope you can get your system repaired. I am going to now go ahead and try my luck with apple support as well.

  • GRAPHIC CARDS AND 10.6.4 PROBLEMS - MAKES CS5 CRASHING!

Photoshop CS5 has crashed on me several times today and *my screen becoming extremely distorted and flickering very fast, locking up the Mac and not responding at all*, leaving me to reboot.
I tried PS CS5 in 32-Bit mode, and it is still crashing.
+That crash just started appearing with the delivery of MacOS 10.6.4+. (Acobe engineers found unknown crashes moving up the statistics and had engineers looking at them) It is related to OpenGL, and probably to a driver update delivered with 10.6.4.
Adobe has found no problems with CS5 and this is a problem related to Apples 10.6.4
This has been discussed with users and engineers at Adobe here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2957823#2957823
We are working on a very important project with one of our main clients - and really needs this resolved asap! This is not just affecting gamers but creative professionals.
Is there any news on this issue?
    Thank you very much,
    Kim

A business that is using the latest OS, would also be taking risks, and would have been prudent and conservative, having multiple bootable backups to work with, and realize these things happen.
Other than a brand new Mac that doesn't work with Leopard I can see having to have 10.6.3.
As to how long since release to move production up from CS4 to CS5? well, people really detest the IT-minded for their "test, retest, and don't deploy until the testing is done" approach.
I assume "graphic cards" and you have a Mac Pro 2009 w/ ATI 4870 or GTX 285, but your post was scant on that, and it is really helpful to have a more complete .sig with hardware profile to see.
There is a patch from Nvidia for GTX 285. You should be able to roll-back to 10.6.3.

  • Ack. did i move something accidentally in GRAPHIC CONVERTER

    argh.
i think i might have done something really dumb by accidentally moving a portion of my APPLICATIONS folder while working in Graphic Converter. is this possible?
the screenshot at the bottom shows an Applications folder with data in it that is supposed to just be full or images and the GC screenshot seems to show the Applications folder in here as well.
can anyone decipher this for me? i think my testing in this app has got to stop and i have to move to something else...

    THANKS

Thank you for the reply.  Its good to know i am not the only person seeing this.  I did confirm your observation.  I have both PSCS5 and PSCS5.1 installed.  PS CS5.1 is automatically made the default editor and i have linked CS5 in as the custom alternate.  When choosing to edit in the custom alternate the "edit in" dialogue appears-- when using the Default CS5.1-- no dialogue appears.
EDIT:  With A little more research I did find out that everything is working as it should-- The Default Editor is not meant to show the "edit in" dialogue and will always apply whatever lightroom adjustments you have made (flattening the image to whatever format you choose in the preferences) -- you can however have full camera raw editability by choosing "open as a smart object" which will allow you to open up the RAW format within Camera Raw from Photoshop.
You can also have the "default" editor also saved as a custom external editor -- saving it as a preset-- and selecting the preset -- which will bring up the "edit in" dialogue.

  • Terrible Mac Pro graphics glitches and garbling - please help!

Hi all, I have a terrible problem with my early 2008 (8 core) mac pro. Everytime I am editing with final cut, after around 5 minutes, the contents of the screen will start to act very strangely and before I know it, the whole screen is garbled with multicolored shapes and lines (see screenshots below). The system will then completely crash and I will have to hold the power button to shut down. Yesterday, I took it to my local apple store and they put it down to a broken graphics card and fitted a replacement, today its happening again!
Please take a look at the screen shots posted and let me know if any of you have had this problem or if you can help to shed some light on this issue for me.
I'm running an ATI Radeon HD 2600 / snow leopard.

Hi, and welcome to the forums! I actually had the same problem though I don't use pro apps. But how I resolved mine was to de-activate that german based overclocking program called ZDnet overclock utility. For you it maybe a different problem. But if I were you, I'd get rid of the 2600 as its a slow card and lacks OPENCL.
In general, I would just pick up a GT120 or 4870 and get rid of the 2600 as its an older card. It seems the 2600 works better under Leopard than in Snow Leopard.
