Graphic design for mac

I have a Mac 10.4.11. I would like to create a website and logo design though I have no background in graphic design. Which programs are free/best for this Mac?

Hi Josie,
Get GraphicConverter for all graphic things...

  • ATI Radeon HD 3870 Graphics Card for Mac debuts

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,147040-c,graphicsboards/article.html
AMD on Thursday announced the ATI Radeon HD 3870 for Mac and PC Edition. The new card is expected to ship at the end of June for US$219.
The card works in the PCI Express slots of both first-generation and second-generation Mac Pro systems, and features 512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 frame buffer memory and 320 stream processors. It's designed as a graphics upgrade for Mac Pros -- even those that may have come equipped with the Nvidia GeForce 8800 card introduced earlier this year. AMD claims its new Radeon card runs faster and costs less than the GeForce 8800 GT, which is only available from the Apple Store and costs $279.
The graphics processor can crank up to 70 gigabytes per second bandwidth using a 775MHz engine. That translates, according to AMD's internal benchmarks, into *30 to 180 percent better performance in Apple's Motion 3 software than the GeForce 8800*; slow Motion performance has been an Achilles' heel of Nvidia's rival card since its introduction.

    Rob has it benchmarked:

I'm going to definitely buy this as soon as it's online. I'll order it through Rob's link too to reward him for all the work he's done on this issue.
Now, how about a refund on my GeForce 8800 upgrade, Apple?

  • What is the latest version of adobe livecycle designer for mac?

    Hello Guys,
I am new for Adobe LiveCycle Designer.
Can some one guide me what is the latest version for Mac.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    HARI

    Hi HARI,
Yes, that short video is demonstrating LC Designer (albeit an earlier version).
The video is showing how to create a dynamic form, where you can add and remove items at runtime and have other dynamic features. Do develop this type of form you will need LC Designer ES2 (current version 9). As I said this runs on Windows, so you would need a virtual machine on the Mac to run Windows.
LC Designer comes with Acrobat X Pro for Windows (Note it does NOT come with Acrobat X Pro for Mac). See http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html.
You also need to consider what your users will have to fill in the forms: Acrobat OR Reader. There are some features that will not be available in Reader unless you Reader enable the form. For example users with Reader will not be able to save their data in a form that has not been Reader enabled.
More info on that here: http://assure.ly/gYyYc2
You can also see some short sample forms here, which will give you an idea on some of the dynamic features: http://assure.ly/eEPuCM. All of these were created with LC Designer.
Forms that are created in LC Designer are in accordance with the XFA specification. They are wrapped in a PDF wrapper that allows then to be opened in Acrobat/Reader. However they are not like a standard/native PDF and some standard Acrobat features, like commenting may not be available.
You can also create forms directly in Acrobat, these are called AcroForms. They can be used to collect data, but generally don't have the same level of dynamic behaviour that you saw in the video.
There are plenty of examples on the forums, so I would recommend that you explore these before you make any purchase. There can be a learning curve, depending on whether you have scripted before.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • LiveCycle Designer for Mac?

Will LiveCycle Designer be available for Mac owners in CS5?

    Hi,
Drawing from previous responses and blogs - LC Designer will only be available through Adobe Pro and Workbench. See Stefan's blog here.
If you are purchasing Workbench then it will automatically come bundled.
However if you are getting CS5 you could run into difficulties. Mac versions of Creative Suite that include Acrobat Pro, do not have LC Designer at all.
I am running CS4 on a Mac and had to purchase a separate Acrobat (for Windows) license in order to get LC Designer running on Windows 7 (on Parallels).
Because LC Designer is part of the overall Enterprise Suite, which is Windows based, it is unlikely that the LC Designer component will appear as a Mac version. But I could be wrong - wouldn't be the first time ;-)

  • Best graphics card for Mac Pro Early 2008?

I have a Mac Pro Early 2008 with the default graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600), and would like to make an upgrade to a better graphics card that will run games smoothly. I'm not an expert with computers at all, but all I know is I would like to buy a graphics card for around $200-$300 (If it's more expensive then that's ok, but preferrably this price range) that will get me the best performance possible. I play games like Minecraft, Skyrim, and Team Fortress 2. Thank you for any help/recommendations you can provide!
Also, I wasn't sure which section to post this in, but feel free to move this thread.

Also, to provide more information (not sure if needed), I have dual monitors and the following specs:
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  16 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB
My two displays are LG ULTRAWIDE Display (2560 x 1080) and LED Cinema Display (24-inch, Late 2008, 1920 x 1200)

  • What replacement graphics card for Mac Pro1.1

My NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card is producing various screen artifacts and freezing on startup,
but not in safe boot mode. From reading this forum and posts for a couple of days I've concluded
that I need to replace my card and am thinking that the +ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit+
+for Mac Pro (Early 2009 or Early 2008)+ from the Apple site is the one to get.
I should add that I've tried all the usual fixes in case it wasn't a hardware problem. My question is
will the card work with my system (only Apple and Adobe software running OS 10.5.8 and one 20" Dell monitor).
Now I know this question has been asked and answered many times but I seems to work for some
and not for others that's why I ask again mentioning my particular setup in case that has some
    importance.
Thanks in anticipation of any advice.

How did you get on with your graphics card replacement?
My original Nvidia GeForce 7300GT is on its way out but I'm reluctant to pay nearly £300 for a replacement. Are there any other options available to me?

  • Best graphic card for Mac Pro + CS6

    Hi everyone,
I'm sorry if this question has been asked several times... But it seems technology moves so fast... And also I found lots of cards that seem to me being PC only... That's why I'm having this question for Mac only.
I'm on a Mac Pro, Snow Leopard CS5.5 , and I want to re-instal a clean new system with Lion and CS6... mostly to edit 5K footage from the Epic (+ VFX and grading)... So it is mostly about PPro and AE (not quite sure about Speed Grad, still have to try it out).
What are my best options, as of today, in terms of graphic cards... ? I'm talking about boosting the Mercury Playback Engine through CUDA, as well as supporting the softwares as much as it can in term of OpenCL and OpenGL...
In this chart from nVidia's website, I only see the quadro 4000 and 4800 being available for Mac...
    http://www.nvidia.com/content/PDF/product-comparison/product-comparison-master-revised.pdf
But we do have a GTX 285 in one of our computer at the office, and it works too...
Then I know some CS6 users are referring to other cards, like the GTX 570... and there is probably more to the list.
I'd like to to be able to compare what card gives you the best performances, at which price point.
    Thanks in advance for sharing

First think strange... I used to run my Wacom Cintiq from a second graphic card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 - through mini-dispaly port, and this stoped to work... I have to use another port (DVI) from this same card to have a display on my Cintiq.
Second thing: I have 4 ports on the GTX570 (2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 Dipslay Port)... I plugged my 2 main screens for UI into each DVI but only one worked (the bottom one). For my second screen I had to use the Display Port and use a bunch of adaptors.
I can't really help you out regarding the GT120 and why the DP went dead.  I suspect it has something to do with the Mac not wanting to power more than 1 DP, but I'm not 100% sure of that.  With the GTX570, only 2 of the ports are going to be active, as you found out: the first DVI and the DP.  It has to do with the EFI on the card and the driver, I believe.  The MacVidCards guy can explain it more thoroughly.  He's fairly responsive via email and PMs on the MacRumors forum.
I actually bought this card for CUDA performances inside of CS6, so it would be disapointed to realise it's not working...
EDIT: I think I need to change something in a file to add the name of the card in order to get Premiere use its CUDA technology... I will dig into that a bit more
Right, you need to edit the CUDA text file and add it in as:
    GeForce GTX 570
    mrfreeze$ cat /Applications/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS6/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS6.app/Contents/cuda_supported_cards.txt
    GeForce GTX 285
    Quadro CX
    Quadro FX 4800
    Quadro 4000
    GeForce GTX 570

  • Better Graphics Card for Mac Pro !!

    Hi,
I planning to upgrade my Mac with the latest Mac Pro .. so I'd like just to know ..
Which is the better performance can I get it for 3D Graphics redraw .. and Open CL feature:
A Mac Pro, have (One) NVIDIA EVGA GeForce GTX 285 1GB GDDR3 memory (Here is the Card info )
Or Mac Pro, have (3x) NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB (Here is the Card info )
Or anyone can advice me another graphics card better than above for Mac Pro ?
(Except the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800)
    Thanks in Advance.

Two choices, either ATI 4870 can be bought as BTO for $200, or buy with GT120 and add GTX 285 $449 afterwards (not offered as BTO configuration at reduced price).
ATI seems favored by OS X and Apple applications but has to catch up in some areas, you know, like behind on OpenCL which will take time and work really (and Nvidia with CUDA, GPGPU and Physx has a leg up).
Or, sit on pins and needles and hope ATI 5870 or GTX 480 (bit, power guzzeler).
Apple likes to have basic card that doesn't need aux power so has to work @ 75W, and only has two 6-pin, the Fermi cards have 6 and 8-pin, unless revised models of Mac Pro have more options.
    Run Windows, the GTX shines.
There has never been support for SLI, and recently even CFX was disabled as well.

  • CC 2014 and GTX 680 Graphics Card for Mac

I am using a NVIDA GTX 680 card for Mac and with Premiere CC and I can use the Mercury Engine with Cuda. I am running a Mac Pro 12 Core with OS 10.8.5. When I launched CC 2014 it told me to update the Cuda drivers for my card otherwise Premiere could not access the Cuda drivers. Question I have is does anyone know the driver numbers I need to have and do I have to upgrade to Mavericks to take advantage of the drivers. Once these drivers are installed will it interfere with using Cuda in Premiere CC?
    Thanks
    Mike

Yes, Premiere Pro CC adds full GPU acceleration certification for the GeForce GTX 680 on Mac.

  • Graphics Card for Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008)

    Hello all,
I'm finally in the market to purchase a graphics card this faithful sidekick for gaming-related reasons. But, there are a few things I'd like to know before I really get elbow-deep in researching to find the perfect one for the price.
First, I know the Mac edition GPUs have EFI. Is the sole purpose of EFI to provide the boot screen for the Mac? Surely that's not that big of a loss if I chose to purchase a non-Mac-specific GPU. Furthermore, I hope to keep my old 8800 installed as well. Would there be a way to negate the loss of the boot screen while maintaining the hardware performance for the better GPU?
Second, it can be difficult to find a comprehensive list of system requirements in some cases. What is the noticeable negative impact I should expect if I chose, say, a Sapphire 7950 ME, which (if I'm not mistaked) mentions requirements of an early/late 2009 Mac Pro? I'm not very knowledgeable of hardware compatibility ratings in general, so any information (no matter how snidely toned) is welcome.
    Thank you
    Bugg

At 10.8.3 Apple quietly added a whole lot more Drivers for cards not previously seen.
At the same time, cards that previously did not show a picture AT ALL on a Mac started working (except boot screens). This is said to be due to some research NVIDIA did. They figured out a way to include EFI in the Driver in Mac RAM and make it work as if it were in the card's Firmware.
Some Users who do not regularly boot back-and-forth to Windows or use diagnostic "snag keys" love their faster cards and claim not to miss Boot Screens. The only ones to complain have been those taken by surprise by the dark screen at Satrtup.
You are correct that the 7950 MacEdition says it requires a Mac Pro 4,1 2009 or better. The last time I posted that, another user piped up, "it works in my 2008" [but possibly slightly slower due to slightly slower slots].
