Graphic Engine Bug?

Why is the graphic performance of Logic Pro so crappy? OK, I'm not using the latest Quad Intel but even when scrolling around in an arrange window with a few tracks and even when not playing, the graphics stutter. Everything takes a little while to respond, e.g. when changing a level. There is also a bug when zooming into/out of a track - when playing in cycle mode, the graphics get a bit messed up and the position of the song pointer doesn't match the audio or there appears two of them: one motionless and another moving. I have to reZoom to update the grahpics.
I reckon there is a serious bug in the Logic Pro graphics engine
Anyone else experiencing this? or found a fix?

I believe its not wise to use Leopard on a G5. I went back to 10.4.11 months ago.
Last week I tried leopard with all the new updates available but I cannot use it because it is so sluggish. I will stay on Tiger.

  • Graphics Engine

    I would like to know wether one can develop a 3D graphics engine in JAVA. If so, what are the things I need to know before I can start trying to make one.
    Thanking You in Advance
    Lithuvien

    Yes.
    You should know:
    1) it's a good educational experience, but there's a lot of annoying details in 3d graphics and if you'll be learning that a lot more than java. I hope you have a good textbook.
    2) If you haven't done 3d graphics before, the first thing you should do is brush up on linear algebra.
    3) Bugs are harder to squash than in other programming efforts, because so often the problems are only noticable when viewed and are hard to express in any way other than intuitively: "it looks wrong". It's hard to debug "it looks wrong".
    4) there are existing 3d packages for java, etc. If you want to get cool graphics fast, you're probably better off learning those than making something yourself. And it'll look better on a resume if you know an established package.
    5) nevertheless, it's really interesting. You can learn a lot. You can get crude but cool results quickly, but there are diminishing returns as you try to add more polish. It's a lot of effort to add even minor effects. There's a reason that there are armies of programmers developing the major 3d graphics libraries.

  • Graphics render bug in FCP 6 and 7 - Dare to prove me wrong?

    I have an issue with an HD video that contains red and purple text and graphics in the edit. I've looked for an answer tirelessly online, with friends, and through trial and error for a good 7 hours before giving up. Here's the deal,
    Sequence settings: HD 1440x1080 16:9, 23.98, HDV 1080p24 for editing the canon7d footage that came in - this however doesn't matter because i tested with every setting imaginable including animation raw and ended up with the same results for the graphics problem I'm having (kind of unrelated to the actual footage).
    I need to output this 9 minute edit I have to an HD file 1280x720 for youtube upload. So, it has to be under 2gb (youtube's limit) but for client purposes, it needs to be crisp and great looking as you would imagine.
    I have a bunch of PSDs, each show a different line drawing of a brush. For each one, the line is a different color. For any of the colors that aren't red or purple, they render crisp and wonderful in final cut pro over top the video. However, the graphics that have the lines that are red or purple, come out pixelated and blurry no matter how i try to render them. The only solution that worked was to render and output them with the animation codec. ProRes HQ worked too but not as well. However, this makes a file way too big. Whenever I went from animation to h264 or from FCP to h264, or any other web friendly format, graphics come out way pixelated. It makes me frustrated as to why all the graphics that were exactly the same except not red or purple came out perfectly crisp. Also, why is animation codec the only codec out there (besides uncompressed obviously) that will create clean edges in these red/purple graphics?
    Conclusion: Found that reds and purples are the only colors that seem to be effected when rendering the graphics. Everything else comes out nicely. Animation and pro res codecs aside, any codec making the video small enough for the web (less than 2gb) resulted in the problem of pixelation with the red and purple graphics. Based on extensive research I did online, I was surprised not to find many people posting about the exact same problem. For the issues I did find that seemed related, people concurred that HD nor regular DV video do a good job rendering bright reds or variations of red. Because I found no solutions online or from all the things I tried in the list below
    -re-rendered the PSD's in Final cut pro with variation of sequence setting to see if that would make any difference - it didn't. Tried all kinds of different settings in export for h264, keyframes, max quality, etc. no luck.
    -tried rendering to "Animation/uncompressed" as far through the process as possible. For instance, I outputted a perfectly crisp "Animation" file that was perfect looking. As soon as I re-exported to h264, mpeg4, or sorenson, or any other codec dropping the file size down, all results returned pixelated results for the reds and purple graphics.
    -made sure photoshop settings were all good, even copied and pasted psd into new 1920x1080 project, played with DPI up to 300 to see if it did anything, saved as different formats TIFF, png, eps, layers, flattened, 8-bit, 24-bit, 36-bit, etc., none of the formats worked correctly.
    -outputted my own purple and red graphics and text and rendered in final cut to see if the file had anything to do with it. same problem with my red and purple graphics and text.
    -Tried adding slight moving grain to the graphic in Final cut to try and trick FCP to thinking it was a video instead of a graphic and therefore render it smoothly.
    -consulted with 2 other video editors/media experts, ended up frustrating them as well (and hurting their ego a little since they were sure they could figure it out)
    -Ran the shot and graphic through after effects and premiere pro separately (different video programs) to see if final cut pro was causing the problem, same problem with those programs.
    -tried rendering on a different mac, still the same.
    -Actually upgraded my final cut pro version to the new version (now Final cut studio 3). Ran tests on new version of final cut pro, same exact problem.
    -added black edge to purple graphics to see if that did anything different to the rendering. Didn't help
    -Changed the hue of the graphic to anything other than red or purple. Wouldn't you know...That fixed it.
    Here is a link to the Animation Output of a half second of the edit with a sample red graphic crisp as can be for you to test (12.7mb) -
    http://www.robinsonhope.com/downloads/makeup_animationtest.zip
    Here is a link to view screenshots before and after to show you what rendering does to the graphics.
    http://www.robinsonhope.com/downloads/makeup_ss.jpg
    In case you'd like to try and find a solution, please download the link to the HD animation half-second clip and output to h264 or any other web friendly codec that would show these red graphics clean and not blurry and pixelated. Other rule is after doing the math, a 9 minute video with the compression you choose would need to be under 2gb. This shouldn't be too much of a problem because even a 1280x720 h264 at max quality for a 9min video is still under 2gb.
    The first person to show me that you are truly a FCP guru and can solve this, post a link of your successful solution, I will praise you as genius all over this forum. I will also be eternally grateful. Live in LA? I'll also buy you dinner, Haha. But seriously...

    Welcome to this forum,
    Sorry to hear you so struggling with this issue.
    And I doubt whether I can solve this for you, but I can say a few things.
    The title of this thread is:
    Graphics render bug in FCP 6 and 7 - Dare to prove me wrong?
    I'll prove you are wrong. Or actually you've already proved yourself wrong in your post:
    -Ran the shot and graphic through after effects and premiere pro separately (different video programs) to see if final cut pro was causing the problem, same problem with those programs.
    Seams that I try to annoy you, but I'm not. It's not a joke. The fact that other applications can't handle it as well AND the fact that Animation Codec (Which is pretty lostless) does not have this problem, tells you that the problem is likely the low compression you want OR the footage itself. And I dare say it's BOTH.
    I downloaded your testfile and have opened it in FCP and I can see in the Vectorscope that your color Red is too hot.
    [Click here|http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz356/rienkL/Screenshot2010-04-02at1324 20.png] to see the vectorscope of your picture?
    You also see the small boxes (clockwise)
    Red, Magenta, Blue, Cyan, Green, Yellow. The signal of your picture should stay somewhere between those boxes. You should read [this article|http://www.larryjordan.biz/articles/lj_scopes.html] (two third on the page) about the vectorscope. Also has a picture with the range to be broadcast safe.
    So back to your picture and your vectorscope. You'll see that just along the right side of the R in the vectorscope there's a peak which goes way out of the range. And that's exactly the color of your graphic.
    I tried isolating that color, reducing the saturation, and then do an export, but that failed. You should adjust that within the PSD's first and then see how exporting goes.
    So now you are thinking: My client wants his own colors! Sure he does. But those colors were probably designed for print, which does have another colorrange. Simple technical story. You're bound to specific saturation. Going over that means troubles....
    And I'm not claiming that your problem will be solved when you adjust this. It is still possible that h264 just doesn't like red too much. Maybe that's on purpose. Our eyes are most less sensitive to red, so that gives the compressor some extra room to compress in the reds (Don't know if this is what compression developers do; just thinking out loud, just an idea...)
    Hope this helps at least a little.

  • BPC10 Graphic Glitch/Bug on Excel

    Hi all,
    sometimes it happens to me this kind of strange (graphic?) bug on the Excel part of BPC:
    when I use the EPM - Member Selector (or the EPM Context filter), as you can see in the above image in the red squadre, there is a graphic glitch and I can't define the filter. I have to close and reopen the Excel in order to solve this issue.
    This happen, as I said before, randomly (of course this mean I don't know the cause of the problem) but in a specific report it always happens after executing a macro. So, are there any specific VBA instructions that I should be aware of that can cause this kind of problems?
    Thanks,

    Just for test - change resolution to 1280x... and try to reproduce. For sure it's not a workaround but an argument to talk to SAP!

  • OO Graphic Engine, how to add Rotation?

    I'm trying to program a simple GameEngine, so far I've created a gameloop (doing stuff, render stuff and wait)
    Now I want to add to the rendering process a way to rotate every single object with a different angle
    my object would looke like this:
    public class GameObject {
         double angle;
        public int x,y;
        public Image picture;
        public MOB(Image pic, int x, int y, double angle) {
                  this.picture=pic;
                  this.x = x;
                  this.y = y;
                  this.angle = angle;
    }and my graphic engine should now paint those objects (pictures) at x/y and rotated, and there lies my problem.
    how can i rotate the objects without rotating the whole panel? do i have to use a buffered image?
    and last but not least, is this method efficient?
    thx for helping
    Ghley

    Take a look at the AffineTransform class and the Graphics2D methods rotate, scale, translate etc. Worry about efficiency if you come up against a performance issue. Micro-optimization seldom helps, and can sometimes be deleterious.
    a way to rotate every single object with a different angleThe method create (inherited from Graphics) can be useful here.
    Remember that angles in Java are in radians, not degrees. The Math class has a static method that could be useful there.

  • Mercury Graphics Engine, Mercury Playback Engine

    I am confused by the required graphics hardware needed to support GPU processing by Adobe Photoshop & Premier CS-6.
    Photoshop CS6: "Mercury Graphics Engine" (MGE):
    My understanding is that ALL MGE functions are supported by both NVIDIA (CUDA) and AMD (OpenCL).
    If this is true, then which of these cards (gaming is not a concern) would give the best PS6 performance:
    NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti 448 (? 1.2GB, not clear on this) ($270)
    AMD Radeon HD 6870 2GB ($220)
    AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB ($160)
    Premier Pro CS6: "Mercury Playback Engine" (MPE):
    MPE is even more confusing. Here it seems that CUDA and OpenCL do not both offer the same support.
    It seems that AMD OpenCL will NOT support these MPE effects:
    Fast Blur effect
    Gaussion Blur effect
    Directional Blur effect
    Basic 3D effect
    However, I am not, in general, interested in 'special effects' on my underwater nature videos!
    I do now use PP4, but only do color correction, occasional sharpening or blurring, and a lot of cross-fade/cut-through-black transitions. So would MPE speed up any of these processes?
    If NVIDIA chips are the only ones which support full MPE playback, does the GTX 560 do so? Looking on adobe (http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/mercury-playback-engine.edu.html) the GTX 470, 570, 580 are listed as compatible - GTX 560 is not mentioned.
    Finally, what about AMD CrossFireX and Nvidia's SLI?
    Do CrossFireX and SLI both support all functions of MGE and MPE?
    That is, if one uses two identical (to be safe) graphics cards, will MGE & MPE both be able to take advantage of all of the GPUs?
    Long and complicated post, I know - but Thanks for any help!
    Incidentally, since I think it clear what my needs are (Modest budget Image and Video processing - not gaming) do any of you have other suggestions for a cost effective configuration giving the most bang-for-the-buck. I will not be building this system until W8 is out and stable with CS6.
    Again, thank you for any help with this.

    If NVIDIA chips are the only ones which support full MPE playback, does the GTX 560 do so? Looking on adobe (http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/mercury-playback-engine.edu.htm l) the GTX 470, 570, 580 are listed as compatible - GTX 560 is not mentioned.
    What's not listed is not supported, it's as simple as that.
    Do CrossFireX and SLI both support all functions of MGE and MPE?
    Crossfire and SLI are just methods to connect multiple cards in addition to your PCI lanes. Connecting the wrong two cards doesn't make any of this work. Same rules apply: What's not listed is not supported.

  • Graphics driver bug on MacBook Air late 2010

    I saw a graphics driver bug on MacBook Air late 2010.
    The problem is that some programs that uses graphics card will not display some drop down menu correctly.
    For example this will happen on Windows Live messenger and Firefox 4 beta.
    Problematic WLM screen shot: http://a-fung.net/files/scr1.png
    Correct WLM screen shot: http://a-fung.net/files/scr1_correct.png
    Problematic Firefox 4 beta screen shot: http://a-fung.net/files/scr2.png
    It does not happen when I ran it in VMWare fusion or other machines. So I am sure this is a graphics driver problem.
    Does anyone know how often Apple push driver updates?
    Or does anyone know anyway to solve this problem?
    BTW, I tried to force-install a later nvidia driver from the official website. The drop down problem goes away but I lose the ability to change screen brightness.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for your quick reply. I am not convinced it is a hardware problem. For if I hold the key that is faulty pressed for a few seconds it works, and the also works for a while before it stops working again. This to me seems like it is software based. Is there a secure way to test software vs. hardware e.g. by booting from an external image into a shell only? I do not think I have an image on a usb, is there any online server that I can connect to to try it?
    Thanks again

  • Graphic display bug on MSI GS70 2PE Stealth Pro

    Hello,
    I have a graphic display bug that appears every now and then... Most of the times, it only lasts a few seconds, but sometimes it hangs bugged and I have to reboot the laptop.
    I would have like to post a picture of my screen when it's corrupted, but I can't find how to join a .jpg to my message, and I'm not allowed to post an external link neither!
    I have updated my drivers; both for the GTX 870M and the Intel HD Graphics chipset... but to no avail!
    I hope someone will be able to help me solve the problem!
    Thanks in advance!

    Yes, the FAQ is for Apache not the stealth, just wonder if you experience the same problem. Anyway, try to unchecked the exclusive mode under advanced tab of microphone properties and chat with your friend in game again. Hop this could help you out. I google for a while and one guy fixed it up by unchecked the exclusive mode. Do not know if this applies to you since I unchecked it and chatted with my friend by skype, he barely heard me. But it would be ok if I ticked off exclusive mode. Strange.

  • Isometric Graphics Engine

    Hey,
    Does someone have an Isometric 3D Graphics Engine for Java?
    Thanks and sorry for English.

    For drawing to the screen, it's trivial to set up a isometric projection matrix in opengl, so use JOGL.
    Or do you want something more game oriented with a fixed view?

  • Apple Mail Graphic Artifacts Bug?

    For starters, I never encountered this issue with Lion.  But when I open Mail 6.0 (most of the time), I receive odd graphical artifacts around the message (especially messages that have graphics (i.e. pictures) on the right.  I took it to Apple and they said it's not my hardware, but a software issue.  Does anyone else have this problem? • Search engine bug

    Hello,
    Since I've updated my phone on the latest version of android software 4.4.4 I've noticed a bug in the search engine.
    If I want to find a specific contact or a specific song in the Walkman app, the phone doesn't recognize the typed letter.
    If I, for instance, type the letter "b", the letter "b" will apear as it should in the search bar, but instead to find a contact or a song starting with that letter words will apear with the "a" letter. All of the oter letters, except the letter "f", are wrongly recognized.
    I've tryed to restart the phone for a longer period, and to change the keybord input to another language, but nothing helped me to get rid of that problem.
    Is there any way to fix this?
    Btw. I've only uploaded my phone twice with the Sony PC Companion, I've never rooted the phone, nor did I play with the system in any way.
    Thanks in advance for your ansvers.

    Try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues after an upgrade - This will factory reset your phone
    Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
    Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
    If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

    I have a similar issue using the same graphics driver (i965) and I've been unable to track the issue down. I have little more than the stacktrace that X11 spits out. What are your hardware specs or the model of your laptop?
    I'm on a Thinkpad W520. The Xorg logs are the only source of information on this issue that I've been able to find. If there's any further requests for information, do ask.

  • T400s Graphics Driver Bug? Quickstart Icons Get Messed Up

    Every now and then, upon boot-up, the screen on my T400s flickers. When this happens, all of the program icons on the Quick Launch toolbar get messed up. This is under Windows XP SP3 fully patched.
    For example:
    Microsoft OneNote is shown with the icon for Adobe Online
    Microsoft Excel is shown with the icon for Amazon MP3 Downloader
    Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone had this problem and fixed it?
    The device manager shows three Monitors, all "Thinkpad Display 1440x900", and all with Lenovo driver version 4.31.0.0
    Thanks,

    I just started getting the same problem with Quick Launch icons.  Yes, the screen flickers, and then the Quick Launch icons are randomly assigned other icons.  For example, Mozilla Firefox is assigned MS-DOS icon.  I have a T400 with ATI graphics card runing Wndows XP, SP3.  I noticed that when I log off and then log on, Quick Launch icons are okay.

  • Help needed with game graphics engine

    I'm creating a game for which I've created my own component system that is independent from AWT and stuff.
    I have components such as Button, DropMenu, ScoreBoard, Character... also GamePanel class that acts
    same as the Panel class in AWT except that you can add Effects to it. Effects can be as simple as Contrast, Brightness, Gamma, GreyScale or bit more complicated such as noise, flicker, shake. Anyway they deal with pixellevel operations. I see that I must do my own graphics functions such as drawText, drawImage and stuff.
    ... now let's say that character needs to be painted. First we call my own drawImage method in Character class... then we pass it throught effects assigned to Character... lets say shake, so this is where I it get's a bit complicated for me... should the effect return new image which is then sent to Characters owner for additional effects and layers untill it reaches the main panel which uses Graphics-class to paint the character to screen. Please give me some hints to do this kind of stuff...
    Looking foreward for your answers MK.

    What do u mean? What if there are multiple effects, say character has few, and the whole screen has some and that way. I see the option that I can create double buffer for every panel, but that's wasting lots of memory. Other option I have thought about is to gather all effects to one class like this so that every effect would only affect the parameters of paintjob, and in the end we would just do special drawImage method.
    abstract Class element
    abstract void draw(Graphics g);
    class ImageElement extends Element
    Image img;
    void draw(..)=,
    class LineElement...
    class RectangleElement...
    class PaintJob
    Element element;
    int x,y;
    double rotation;
    double contrast;
    double brightness;
    double rmul, gmul, bmul;
    void applyEffect(Effect e);
    void doPaint(Graphics g);
    But this is not good, since say I wanted effect like disortion or noise, and I do not see anyway to apply them here. I am thinking also to do this more simpler, but it would be great for my game to have such wide varierty of FX applied so easily... could you give me some ideas.
