Graphic inspector color swatch corner darkned ...means what?

in the inspector, graphic, fill color, the color swatch will sometimes have a upper right corner darkened (like to grab it and turn a page), and other times not. What does this mean?
thanks

How did you paste a graphic in your post?
Bob ~ That image was pasted in as:
<IMG SRC="http://will.thimbleby.net/lineform/device.png"/><br>
Then I switched from Compose mode to Preview mode to check that it looked okay before posting. The image can be on any server including iDisk — you just have to use the correct path to the image. To post a thumbnail link to a _screen shot_ or other large image, go here:

Again, switch from Compose mode to Preview mode to check that the clickable thumbnail works before posting. Here's an example — clicking on the thumbnail will open a new window containing a larger version:

  • Printing color Swatches for printer profiling in Photoshop

    This is the crime scene:
    I have two printers, a 9800 and a 9880. I want to profile them both with the i1 PRO and EYE-One Match Software. Half of the archive is in Kodachrome Slides scanned into Adobe RGB (a while ago); RAW files worked in ProPhoto. ALL we use is premium luster 260.
    I want to print the color swatches and dont know what option to chose in photoshop to print them: Let Printer Manage Colors, or, on the other side, select "Let Photoshop Manage colors" and Adobe RGB as profile and create a printer Profile that I will use to print the Adobe RGB slide images; and print the swatches again with "let photoshop..." and Prophoto as profile and use the created with those swatches to print the RAW Prophoto images.
    or else.
    Thanks so much for your time and help!

    You need to choose the "No Color Management" option in the first print dialog and then in the Epson portion, you need to choose your paper type under Paper Settings and then choose No Color Adjustment in very next dialog box. That way you are sending pure unadulterated RGB to the printer.

  • What do the colored wires and boxes mean

    I remember years back finding a National Instruments webpage that showed all the Labview colored "wires" and "boxes" and what they meant.  Does anyone know where that is now and/or if it still exsists??  For example a "magenta" box was a string...green was a boolean..
    Thanks.

    It was the LabVIEW Quick Reference Card. At one point they stopped putting the datatypes on the card. Not sure which version stopped it. You can get the cards online: http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/global/lang/en/pg/1/q/labview%20quick%20reference...

  • Illustrator CS4 New Color Swatches Keep Shifting Values

    Hi.  I really need some help.  I created 8 major panel designs for my first-ever tee shirts.  For this project, I added up to 70+ colors to my existing standard CMYK swatch library, by naming them and marking them for global.  Just to be on the safe side, I also made up my own directory in a separate document by making squares with their names next to them.  I transferred these to each new document I created.  I did all of this in Illustrator 10.
    I finally got to upgrade several months ago to the Design Suite CS4 -  Hooray!  No problem in converting my files.  I am having my tees printed in the direct-digital-to-fabric method.  My printer said that I could change all my CMYK colors to RGB for a more vibrant rendering.  And so I went in to each of my colors and manually changed them to RGB.  I also changed my document format to RGB.
    Several weeks ago, my eye registered that my favorite red didn't seem as red any more.  And so it wasn't!  I checked my swatch, and it was way off my original settings.  So I changed them.  The change didn't keep.  It turns out that almost all of my colors were off their original CMYK settings!
    So I started over again, by taking each color, and in most cases, making up a new color swatch with a slightly revised name.  I made sure the colors reflected accurately both the CMYK and the RGB percentages.  I DID NOT want to select as a spot color.  Therefore, I kept the "Process" format, but selected RGB.  I also deleted the old color swatch.
    But the problem was still there -- within a span of several minutes, my "Red" changed both in the CMYK and RGB percentages,  I checked 15 other colors I had just created, and their percentages were off also.
    Needless to say, it is very important to me that my colors hold their value.
    I thank you in advance for considering my challenge.

    Kelly,
    And so I went in to each of my colors and manually changed them to RGB.  I also changed my document format to RGB.
    Pick (almost) any colour in a document with CMYK Color Mode, copy into a document with RGB Color Mode, and see a change.
    In other words: if you want to keep the colours, keep the colour mode; if you want to change the colour mode, recreate the colours, and expect some differences.
    My printer said that I could change all my CMYK colors to RGB for a more vibrant rendering.
    Maybe your printer needs a vibrant rendering, with a boot.
    If the meaning was that the RGB colour gamut is larger, and therefore capable of more, and more vibrant, colours, which is true, that is what should have been said. It would imply creating new, fresh colours.

  • Dynamic Color Swatch

    We would like to add Dynamic Color Swatch. does anybody know the easier way to do it?
    Our Product example: http://www.whitneyeve.com/bottoms/skinny-sweats
    Thank you.

    You need to explain more what you are trying to achieve. You mean when you change the attribute selection it changes the colour image rather then what looks to be the grouping dropdown you setup?
    You need a good level of javascript knowledge to code that functionality in BC. Would you be able to do that?

  • Color swatches don't load properly

    iMac running 10.6.4. CS4.
    I recently had a HD failure. I was able to clone my HD to external, replace HD (bless that apple care!), clone back the HD. Not sure if it's related to my problem which is this: the swatches don't load properly. For instance, if I select pantone process, I don't get a list like DS 13-1, DS 13-2, etc. like I should. No matter which library I select, only pantone swatches are available. Here is a QT movie of what I mean. My question is this: How do I preserve my PDF exports and print settings? I tried exporting and it seems that only the top preset actually exports. Do I have to export each PDF export setting separately? Same with print settings? Seems kind of tedious. I was hoping t export all my print and PDF settings before deleting prefs.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    I'll give it a go. I suspected I may need to reinstall.
    The print presets went in one go. The PDFs don't. The save button is grayed out.
    Later on: I quit ID, started up with Command-Option-Control-Shift. If deleted my print settings but not my PDF exports. I reimported my print settings. I opened a new doc and created a rich black swatch but when I quit ID and reboot, no rich black. I think I ask this question everytime I trash my prefs but how do I make my prefs stick. All boxes also have a stroke which I don't want. No stroke, no fill, rich black swatch in the color swatches. Thanks.

    Tried re-launching application, re-booting PC in case of a technical glitch. Something with graphics frames that needs to be re-stored that I am unaware of?
    I also tried creating a new page, importing another image and still experiencing the issue.
    How do I "re-set" my settings so it will work once again?
    Thank you!

    Here's the info on resetting your prefs: Replace Your Preferences
    But that's not likely the problem. Are you sure the images are really grayscale mode? What format are they saved in? They cannot be colorized in ID if they are transarent or lack a Background layer.

  • Does CS5 Improve Typography and Color Swatches?

    Hi, we are web developers creating mostly dynamic CMS based websites. We have been using Illustrator for designing our layout comps to send to the client for approval and drive the template design process. We only generate the actual graphics needed for the site from these files, we don't try to convert our comps into actual code (we just match the look with our templates using PHP & CSS).
    But Illustrator has always been one of our most frustrating programs to use. It just has a tendency to be buggy (you have to nudge your slices down 1 pixel to export properly), or just plain counter-intuitive. And we have been using it for MANY years (we also do print and environmental graphics).
    But when I've experimented with Fireworks to see if it would be a better solution (it SHOULD be), there were always a couple glaring features missing that would make it hard to use. The last one I tried was a demo of CS4.
    TYPOGRAPHY
    - Does Fireworks finally use the same type engine as Illustrator and Indesign?
    - Does it support styles so you can apply certain type styling, say to headlines, and have them be globally editable?
    It's such a drag to have to manually update the text formatting in 20 different places when you want to try a larger font size or something for your headings. We then use these styles as a basis for our main CSS styles.
    COLOR
    - Does Fireworks finally use the color swatches feature of Illustrator and InDesign?
    - Can you create global swatches with (heaven forbid) some sort of name that makes sense (like the hex/rgb value) and have all objects with those colors be updatable by editing the swatch?
    I can't understand how people could actually use those tiny little swatches with no indication of what actual color each was.
    THANKS! If these two areas have been addressed, Fireworks might actually be a viable option for creating comps over Illustrator as it should be.

    Fireworks has been using the same Text Engine as Illustrator since CS4.
    It doesn't create styles the same way one would with MSWord or probably Indesign. It's a graphics app primarily. That said, you can create graphic styles which - when using the redefine styles tool -  you can update any text in the same page that has the same style applied.
    Fireworks now supports ASE files. They can be imported as a swatch set and you can also generate ASE files from Fireworks.
    FW has had the ability to find and replace color values in text and vectors for many versions, but not from the Swatch panel. You cannot name individual swatches in the Swatches panel, but in the color fill panel you can see the hex value of a selected object and even copy the value to the clipboard.

  • Where is color swatch library in CS4?

    I have just upgraded from CS2 to CS4 and I wanted to load more color swatches. So, I looked in the CS4 folder and found Presets and then found swatches but they are not loadable. There is a folder called "legacy" but they are not readable files. I don't know what to do to load new swatches. Can you help? Thanks, Diane

    It really depends on what you mean by "load new swatches."
    The various swatchbooks, such as Pantone colors, are accessed through the color mode dropdown in the "new color swatch" dialog that you access from the swatches panel menu or shortcut button. You add those individually, rather than loading the entire swatchbook as you can in Illustrator.
    The "load swatches" command, also in the panel menu, allows you to import swatches from another InDesign file or to load an Adobe Swatch Exchange (.ase) file that you've previously saved.

  • Strange color swatch behavior in InDesign CS4

    I coedit a quarterly online newsletter using InDesign CS4 on my two Macs, a PowerBook and a Mac Book Pro. My coeditor uses InDesign CS4 on her PC.
    Lately something strange has started happening. We use a standard text color for hyperlinks (R=60 G=77 B=157). Two weeks ago, every time I applied the color swatch to the text, it took on a "wooly," three-dimensional look. I was using my PowerBook and swapped over to my Mac Book Pro, and all was well.
    In the next draft of the newsletter, on my Mac Book Pro I'm getting the same result as I did on my PowerBook. I've attached the draft in PDF format so you can see what I'm talking about; the effect is on page ten.
    I've tried fiddling with both the Swatches and Character panels to get rid of this effect, but so far nothing is working.
    Any suggestions?
    Buzz Haughton

    Hi Buzz,
    Unfortunately, uploading PDFs or anything else takes a good measure of time to pass through -- long enough to post a follow-up with an inline image, with this icon in the toolbar at the top of the reply box:
    Since you mention it's just the 'hyperlink' text, I don't think it's an unintentionally applied shadow effect, as that can't be done inline. And it's visible in the exported PDF as well, ruling out InDesign view quality settings.
    Perhaps there is something near the text frame that forces the text to be rasterized. Can you check with a Select All?
    I forgot: there's also a View Transparency Effects, or something to that effect. It's in the same panel as Separation Preview.

  • [JS] How do you set change GREP preferences to a custom color swatch?

    Hi All
    I am having difficulty with setting the 'changeGrepPreferences' to a specific color swatch in an InDesign CS3 document.
    The code below is meant to search within text styled with the Character Style "Hyperlink" and change any spaces (which import from Word as black text, i.e. have a black underscore) to the font color of the Character Style (which is a spot color that I've named 'Hyperlinks grey'). I think I have cracked it except for the changeGrepPreferences line; but I'll let the experts be the judge of that.
    app.findGrepPreferences = null;
    app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.appliedCharacterStyle = 'Hyperlink';
    app.findGrepPreferences.fillColor = 'Black';
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = ' ';
    app.changeGrepPreferences.fillColor = app.activeDocument.swatches.itemByName('Hyperlinks grey');
    app.changeGrepPreferences.changeTo = '$0';
    app.activeDocument.changeGrep();
    Any help will be greatly received.
    Simon

    Hi Ole
    Thanks for the quick response. Your workaround works well up to a point. However, because the color 'Hyperlinks grey' already exists in the document I'm working on, when you add a new swatch it creates 'Hyperlinks grey 2'. I really need the text to be colored with the original color: in our production workflow we use a system called Odystar to create a Web and a Print PDF. For a print PDF, Odystar first looks for text in the spot color 'Hyperlinks grey' and turns it to black and removes the underscore. It means that hyperlinks look like hyperlinks for a Web PDF, but not for a print PDF.
    Also, the line of code that removes the created color only works if no replacements were made. When replacements have been made Hyperlinks grey 2 stays in the swatch. And if you ran the script again in which a replacement was made, it would make Hyperlinks grey 3 etc etc.
    So... do you have any further tricks up your sleeve?
    Thanks again for you help so far.
    With kind regards
    Simon

  • Color Swatches in Toolbar for Fill and Stroke are not working properly.

    The color swatches in toolbar for fill and stroke are not functioning as they should.  When I select an object on the artboard, the swatches display fine in the toolbar for what they should be.  However, when I double-click on those swatches from within the toolbar to modify the color, the color which comes up is #000000 instead of the actual color it should be.
    I am using 16.2.1 (cloud) for Mac OS 10.8.2
    I've submitted a bug report, but want to know if anyone else has had this issue and what they did to resolve the issue.
    Also, the eyedropper tool is buggy and occasionally places the #000000 into an object instead of the characteristics the eyedropper is selecting.  I don't have any hidden layers or weird groupings, it just randomly decides when it is going to work or not.
    I've never had these issues on previous versions of illustrator and have been proficient in all versions since 2007.

    Double click the eyedropper, and turn on appearance, is off by default.
    For your #000000 color problem that also likely is related to appearance setting. You may have for example have some with #000000 at the character level, and another color at the type level.
