Graphic issues mac pro

Distorted imaged on HDTV

I'm not sure if this is related or not.  A client of mine is using a MacPro (Late 2013 - 32GB RAM - 6 Core) with a Samsung 4K display.  The problem began recently in Mail, he get's the spinning beach ball constantly, making Mail useless.  Only Mail is affected and I have gone thru all the Mail fixes (rebuilding, reindexing, recreating account, creating new user account, etc...) to no avail.  If I log in with TeamViewer, the problem instantly corrects and no issues as long as I stay connected. Once I log out, spinning beach ball.  No processes in Activity Monitor or TOP indicate anything running amok.  Since the problem seems to go away with TeamViewer (not VNC or ARD though) I assumed it might be display related.  After some experimentation, changing the display resolution to another setting and back again fixes it for a bit.  I assume it's a problem with the graphics adapter working with the 4K display but am wondering if others have seen this or know of a possible fix?  I've seen posts about the Mac Pro's 4K problems with certain displays but not this specific issue.

  • Display issues, Mac Pro

Just got my Mac Pro, and it has a pretty frustrating problem. When waking up from sleep the display (ACD 20") stays black and there's no way of getting a signal without rebooting. If that wasn't annoying enough, the same thing happens about 7-8 times out of 10 when I reboot. The computer boots just fine, but the display stays off. I've tried with other displays and get the same problem.
This is a list of the things I've tried so far:
    1. Called Apple Support, who wanted me to send it for a repair which seems kinda sad seeing as I've only had it for a few days. No replacement will be given though. Unfortunately Apple in Europe aren't as generous with the 14-day DOA period as they are in the US.
    2. Reset PMU/PRAM/NVRAM (sometimes brings the display back up, sometimes not).
    3. Removed and reinserted graphics card.
    4. Removed and reinserted memory sticks.
    5. Tried a new set of memory sticks.
    6. Reinstalled OS X, which is the first thing I do whenever I get a new Mac anyway.
    7. Tried different monitors with both ports on the graphics card.
    8. Ran Apple Hardware Test without any errors registering.
Anyone have any suggestions of anything else I should try, or should I give up on this one and get it fixed?
    Thanks

I'm seeing a similar problem, though short-term sleep
is not an issue. It occurs after the system has
slept for multiple hours--overnight in particular.

  • Ghosting graphics after mac pro restart

I dont think this is a new topic but i just wanted to know if there has been any updates on this. On my LG monitor there is a ghosting effect on all of leopard's graphics after i turn my early 2008 mac pro on. Although this is rectified by turning the monitor on and off, i am pretty sure its not a monitor problem as it doesnt do it on a pc and I dont think it did it pre the 10.5.2 graphics update....
    Anyone know about this?
    thanks...steve

I am using the ati 2600 bog standard card that ships with the mac pro..
Hiroak: thats crazy that your experiencing the same thing with such hi spec, apple's own monitor...
Dfran1: are you suggesting to ring up apple and get a different card?
John F: thanks for the tip but i dont think my LG has that option - i have a PC hooked up to the rgb port on it as well (which has no graphic issues) so i probably need the autosource on?
With the range of hardware that this is happening to, it looks to me like its a bug with the graphics update 10.5.2.....Unless this is happening to people that havent yet applied this update??

  • Graphics card Mac Pro (Early 2008) What is supported

I desperatly need a new Graphics Card for my Early 2008 Mac Pro.
Bellow are the listed and supported graphics cards from apple site.
None of the cards listed for early 2008 is possible (Very hard) to get here in Norway.
I've read some treads here saying that ATI Radeon HD 5870 will work on Early 2008 Mac Pro.
    - Can someone please verify that this will work?
    - On the Note for early 2009 The radeon HD 5870 card requires Mac OS X v10.6.4 or later and it requires the use of both auxiliary power connections?
Both auxiliary power connections. Do Early 2008 Mac Pro have this possibility?
Graphics cards for Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (part number 630-9191 or 630-9897)
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
ATI Radeon HD 4870, offered as an upgrade kit
Note: The Radeon HD 4870 card requires Mac OS X v10.5.7 or later for use with the Mac Pro (Early 2008).
Graphics cards for Mac Pro (Early 2009)
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
    ATI Radeon HD 4870

    Robban1978,
I have 27 Apple Mac Pro's (between work/office, home, and clients), and have four Apple Mac Pro's (just at home) and I have purchased the Diamond Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards (7970PE53GHZ) for each of the 27 computers and the graphics cards do work great in all of my Apple Mac Pro computers (2008, 2010, and two 2012 Apple Mac Pro).
The only problem is that I have to boot directly into Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 to use the graphics cards because Diamond/Radeon/AMD have not released graphics drivers for the Radeon 7970 for OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion (as of yet?)

    See here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20289931
    See here:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4391012
Hopefully AMD/Radeon/Diamond will release updated graphics drivers for OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion, and I believe the Diamond Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition graphics card is probably the best graphics card out on the market (based on it's price/performance), the only problem/issue is there are no OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion drivers for the Radeon HD 7970 series graphics cards yet.
Hopefully AMD/Radeon/Diamond will work on developing and releasing OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion drivers.

  • Arrow Key issue Mac Pro 15 inch

I own Mac Pro 15 inch running with Lion OS, for some days it stop responding to Arrow keys. However arrow key are working upto certain extent with the combination of command and control keys. How I can get this issue fixed?

If it says MacBook Pro under the screen, that's the name of the machine.  Mac Pros are desktop tower computers.  Arrow keys can sometimes malfunction if something gets in the keys, or one of the Apple menu -> System Preferences-> Universal Access settings gets turned on.

  • Strange CPU Performance issue Mac Pro, Logic 7.2.3......

    Hi there,
I am experiencing a strange issue with Logic 7.2.3 and my Mac Pro.
I am running about 70 tracks in a tune I'm writing, with a lot of the EQ and dynamics processed on a Liquid Mix, but am experiencing a lot of CPU spikes, and drop outs in logic.
The System Performance meters are showing that one of the CPU cores is at full capacity, whilst the Activity Monitor is showing a total usage of about 40%.
    http://www.ephexis.co.uk/images/cpu-grab.jpg
I have tried every combination of settings in the audio preferences, but cannot seems to get this track to play properly.
With 71 tracks, this machine is currently LESS powerful than the G5 that I have been working on until purchasing the Mac Pro.
I there anything else I can try? Are there any other means of controlling buffer size?
I have a suspicion that this may have something to do with the Plugin Delay Compensation set to 'All' - But without doing this, I cannot use the DSP effects of the liquid mix to work on a Bus! Very frustrating.
Many thanks for the help, any ideas at would be deeply appreciated,

    Great!
    Thanks for the tips guys.
I have tried to find an offending loop or part in the sequence, but cannot find anything at all thats causing the issue.
My suspiscion is that using the focusrite Liquid mix on a part, that is in turn going into a delay compensated bus, which has another Liquid mix plugin on it, is causing the issues. I use the total mix software in the fireface to perform the summing of the busses, which I think in turn may be causing the PDC to glitch a bit more.
Which is a bit annoying, as the mix in this tune is my best yet!
So I will attempt to remove the liquid mixes that are running in series in a chain, and see if thats the problem, but if that fails, time to re-format again!
I'll let you know how I get on in the next couple of days!
    Thanks again,
    Adam

  • Triple Display issue Mac Pro 4.1, GTX660, GT120.

    Hi guys.
    I have a mac pro 4.1 with a GTX 660 and a stock GT 120.
    The 660 has 2 x DVI, 1x HDMI, 1x Displayport
The GT 120 has 1x MiniDp 1x DVI.
I have both NVIDIA drivers and stock drivers.
    I've recently received a Dell U3011 2560 x 1600 to compliment my 2 20 inch 1600 x 1200 monitors.
I plan to have the 20's flank the u3011 in portrait on either side to create a PLP setup.
The problem is that I can't get them all to work together.
Most of the time the monitor on the left isn't recognised (in system information it is described as color LCD display) and displays a resolution of 480 x 640. The other two monitors will work fine.
If I fiddle with the video outputs on 660 and 120 (mix them up, use adapters etc) I can get all three monitors to display their correct resolution, But if the computer sleeps or is restarted it goes back to low resolution on one monitor and doesn't display an image at all and goes to sleep.
The U3011 is always recognised at its correct resolution via displayport.
Other two are connected to DVI1 on the 660 and the DVI on GT120
Currently both 20's are recognised as 'vga display' or 'color LCD', no resolution options are available, just what it defaults to (640 x 480)
What it is at the moment:
What it was before I had the 30 and was using a 24:
I'm pretty sure its not a monitor issue, as the issues vary between monitors (depending on which is plugged in where)
I'd prefer to resolve this issue by running everything off the 660, allowing me to remove the GT120.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers.

I'm pretty sure its not a monitor issue, as the issues vary between monitors
I'm pretty sure this is a display and adapter and interface problem, especially when the name(s) of your display(s)  show up wrong after sleep.
The Mac uses one display driver that is highly parameterized. The parameters to be used are set by sending a query to the display for its name and capabilities. This query is sent on the secondary digital data channel, and is sometimes referred to as EDID data.
Currently both 20's are recognised as 'vga display' or 'color LCD', no resolution options are available, just what it defaults to (640 x 480)
When the name of the display is not correctly reflected in the name of its Display Preferences pane, that is a direct indication the display-adapter-cable-display part of the chain "dropped the ball" in resounding to the Mac's query for capabilities.
Adapters that do not pass the EDID data through, and displays that do not answer when queried for their name and capabilities are the primary source of problems. For example, TV sets that are not "paying attention" to the secondary data channel, and therefore do not answer the query, drive Mac users crazy.
The query is sent in response to four different events:
    • System Startup
    • wake form sleep
    • cable insertion at the Mac-end (not necessarily at the Display-end)
    • The use of the Option-Detect_Displays button in Displays Preferences window

  • Ssd boot issue Mac Pro and MAvericks

    Hello there,
So here is a good one.
I am running the latest of Mavericks on a Mac Pro late  2009
One of the disk was getting really noisy and slow so I decided to upgrade to SSD.
I used the disk  utility to clone the main drive to the SSD and then used the Start up tool to boot from the new SSD.
    So far no issue.
BUT after the next reboot i get a white screen.
I boot from the installation disk and check the disk utility and everything is there.
I decide to restore a Time Machine image of my main drive just in case but same thing.
I re-check the disk utility and the back up has been done properly (name , size etc ..) but still cannot boot.
When I check the details of the disk it says that IT IS bootable but when I open the Start up tool form the installation DVD, it doesnt see any bootable disk .
At this point I am kind of lost.
I don't use any cable for the SSD, it is directly plugged to the motherboard though the disk slot.
    Thanks.

Which Icy Dock type adapter are you using for it? it won't plug in properly w/o one.
You will need to use one of the TRIM enablers for your Samsung - I have half a dozen of them from the 830 128GB thru the 840 EVO 250 and 500GB
    They work fine.
Not all cloning goes as planned and there I think Carbon Copy Cloner is ideal or best, along with the fact it makes it easy to include a Recovery partition when you do.
Also there should be about 11% free space set aside as spare page cells.
Turbo-write is an iffy feature and you wouldn't be using it. Data Migration is a great Windows clone program but only works to clone TO a Samsung SSD regardless of source - I like it enough to buy two Samsung SSDs. And their programs

  • Graphics Card Mac Pro early 2008

I need/want to upgrade my video card in my early 2008 Mac Pro. I am still running the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB card. I recently purchased the
Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC with Boost 3GB DDR5 DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D/HDMI/DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 11197-03-40G. After reading several post I thought this would work. I either got the wrong card or it's missing appropriate cables to connect. I have also watched a few installs on you tube. They are not in a early 2008 because I have to connector plugs where they show.
Please advice me on a good graphics card for my Mac Pro. I'm not a gamer but do a lot of photography work on my computer. It locks up sometimes when working with graphics.

You need 6-pin power cables to drive most and Apple's is proprietary and unlike standard PC cable

Or OWC but they charge more (still very low cost)
And you need two such cables.

Mac Pro 2.66 is connected to a power strip I now notice that I do not have to press the power button to boot this Mac up. To boot it I need to just turn the power strip on WITHOUT pressing the power button and it boots right up. Only occasionally when I turn on the power strip its connected to I have to boot using the power button.
My question is what should I do here?
Isn't the power button part of the power supply?
If so can I repair the button or do I need a new power supply?

  • Graphics Upgrade Mac Pro 1.1 change 7300 to 8800 GT

    Hi Everyone.
I would like to clarify the situation with my upgrade Mac Pro. I bought on Ebay video card 8800GT Mac Upgrade Kit(Ex. for 1.1 mac pro), at that time I had system 10.4.1 and standard 7300. Then I put in 8800 instead of 7300, and plugged the *monitor in 8800* - the picture was not at all. I updated the system to 10.5.5 (with original Upgrade Disk) and plugged the slot 8800 in the third, and 7300 remained in place (1st slot). When I plugged the monitor cable back in 8800, the picture appeared, but the download Mac OS stayed on the apple loading. I bought a snow leopard in the hope that it works as it should. But everything still works the same way, if i connect the monitor to the 8800GT, load stops at the apple, if the 7300 - works. Interestingly, if in worked system disconnect the monitor cable from the 8800Gt and plugged in 7300, appears the picture of the desktop. What's the problem. What should I do? Save me, help me!

  • Hard drive issues mac pro 2008

Im getting round to some major upgrade of hard drives. My machine runs on 2 x 2.8GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon with 10GB RAM
I am wanting to put a SSD for applications and a 2TB internal hard drive for file storage and data.
As the machine runs at 3Gb/s SATA, i gather there would not be much point in a 6Gb/s SSD, if that would even be compatable with the machine.
So I am hoping to install a Crucial 3gb/s SSD 256GB SSD for my applications.
However with the HDD, Western Digitial Drives seem to be mainly 6Gb/s - will these be compatible with early 2008 MacPro as I would like to install a 2TB WDFAEX Caviar Black into this machine - I would be grateful for any help in clarifying compatability with these products.

Thanks again - will keep Snow Leopard for now as it is working fine... the method i am thinking of doing and not that much of a techie is as follows...
    Install SSD and 2tb HDD
Copy all existing data files onto 2tb HDD leaving only application files and system files OSX etc on original drive.
Do an install of Snow Leopard from cd onto SSD
use migration assistant to to copy OSX settings, applications, mail settings etc.. across from original disk.
What im still not sure about is whether i am best to move all my existing data onto new HDD into a new named Data folder ( not the home folder ) In this case presumably the home folder will ultimately be on the SSD although not used for huge amounts of  storage... Ive heard mixed reports about attempting to move home folder to new drive.. ?

I was using my computer when all of a sudden it froze without warning. This is unusual, in the past the computer might stall for a sec but it would always unfreeze. I had to reboot, and upon logging in, this is what I see. Restarted a few times and it does not change. The apple logo is not scrambled like this when I first boot. Has anyone seen anything like this picture? Is this something fixable or will I have to shop for a new computer?
